Talk:Characters

From Touhou Wiki

Oh, looks like we've covered all characters from Windows series. There's still too few info for 3 fairies in EaLND the comic. When I get a hold of new magazine at June 25, I will try to write em.

Creating a separate Characters page

Berzul has expressed desire in creating a separate, dedicated Characters page. This page will be different from the automatic category listing that this page provides. As such, I have removed the redirect from Characters to Category:Characters and replaced the content of Characters with the content of Category:Characters to get things started. This message is cross-posted to Category talk:Characters. K 19:11, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, one thing I don't like is now when I click on Characters of Touhou on the main page, I don't have all the characters conveniently presented before me like in the past. It takes an additional click to either: show a segment of characters displayed in a little frame; or use the Category:Characters link, requiring me to load up two pages just to see the comprehensive list of characters. --Kilvoctu 20:51, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Just a list of every character appearing in the game (or book). ☢ Quwanti (dutch) 21:13, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Aa.. something like that I hoped that could be avoided since we already have a navbox.. but I had a similar idea... Berzul 21:20, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

I agree that we should have a complete list of this btw. Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 21:40, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to know what the goal of the big change is, exactly. Making a real page, sure, but I do hope that essentially the same list following "Pages in category "Characters"" appears here. A proper summary is nice, but the one page I visit frequently on this wiki is the characters page, for that helpful alphabetical list. As for a list separated by game (as well), it would be nice if it listed via any appearance, but noted them under a "returning" category somehow if it's not their first. Other than that, I think the Category:Characters' Characters box (the "navbox" you're referring to?) is a nice, concise way, which is important when listing returning characters, in my opinion.

Also, I'd like to note a couple more general things: the Encyclopedia > Characters link on the left side still goes to Category:Characters (which is nice until there's an actual list, but misleading nonetheless). Second, Can it really be said that there is "no official connection" between PC-98 and Windows games, when Reimu mentions beating Yuuka before in PoFV? Or how it is mentioned that the events of EoSD came not long after the previous game in Reimu's omake section. Vague and infrequent, but pretty obvious. Does that not count as official? --StrikerX22 03:34, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Since I take eventually would take responsibility for this, "I" did this page for that we have all other pages in "Encyclopedia" like that, they are not a category page. But above that Quwanti is figuring out a character list that would be... something like the category page but different. On second note, there is no official connections, because it is not alike MoF where there are at least some events, and fighting games, that take from EoSD to PoFv, while Pc-98 is something that "never" actually happen in the new timeline.. or was not critical to have any impact on the story... It is just something taken out of the context of the sentence, which means exactly what I said there, or suppose to mean that anyway Berzul 12:25, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
People might not agree with me, but why not put something like "OK, if you want the list of characters in the whole series, then look at the Navbox"? :P Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 23:02, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
I do not like the chart. Besides the fact it is in a weird way (vertical instead of horizontal), it still does not show the importance of a character. Now it looks like Saigyou Ayakashi is the last boss of Perfect Cherry Blossom. ☢ Quwanti (dutch) 13:35, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Well I asked you to try to make one, and I really aim to have as much as possible on one page (Rather than have a description, or have one for every game or so...). I asked you to make one though, since the one you started with was a prototype this can pretty much taken as a prototype. So if you can make something that will take little space and have the most characters on it.... yes... Berzul 13:47, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Is there a reason for linking to "Category:Characters" from the sidebar and not here?

Because I feel this page is more suitable.--Doncot (talk) 12:59, 2 September 2012 (EDT)

Regarding the pronunciation audio files for the character names

No offence, but I find that the Japanese sampled in some of the files are clearly spoken by a non-native; especially the pitch accent is a mess and bothering me. If it's OK, I'd like to replace those files, any objections?--Doncot (talk) 13:12, 2 September 2012 (EDT)
(Actually, I believe the best solution is to ask Masuo to replace and finish the work though [his voice is a lot better than mine (^^;;]. I might ask him out afterward, depending on the response). --Doncot (talk) 13:22, 2 September 2012 (EDT)

We can still salvage the English pronunciation clips; keep that in mind. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 13:59, 2 September 2012 (EDT)
Yeah, I know. I'm only concerned about the Japanese, to clear myself out.--Doncot (talk) 14:04, 2 September 2012 (EDT)
I've recently had little time used for me, so, Doncot, you shall upload audio files if you have the will. I recorded pronunciation of characters appearing by the release of UFO (trial ver.), then edited the original audio file, and uploaded some audio files — probably pronouncing the names of all the characters of EoSD. However, those of the rest (from Letty to Unzan) are still sleeping in my HDD. In this range, I can do it, I may well do it. Umm... I would be possibly able to record in addition from "Murasa" to "Miko", but I think other people should do it when they have the guts better than me. --masuo64 Talk 05:39, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
All right here goes nothing. I think the Japanese pronunciations are okay, but I'm lacking a bit confidence about the English. Feel free to replace it if you felt they were crappy.--Doncot (talk) 10:36, 6 September 2012 (EDT)
In terms of the English pronunciations, most are okay (the accent reminds me of the Chairman from Alpha Centauri for some reason). I would be tempted to redo the English anyways for similar reasons the Japanese was redone. The only real problematic pronunciation I have so far is with en Medicine Melancholy. The stresses for melancholy are off. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 12:13, 7 September 2012 (EDT)

Total no. of characters

Currently, the article says there are "154" characters overall in Touhou. What type of characters is this number including, and what characters are excluded? I'm pretty sure there's more characters needed to be added to the list, therefore affecting the total number. How should we tackle this? Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 19:27, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Reimu and Marisa
