Talk:Sanae Kochiya

From Touhou Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In the most recent translation of both Reimu and Marisa's scenarios Sanae is called a "wind priestess" not "wind charmer" (although her profile here still calls her that). She herself says she's "like a shrine maiden" and her relationship with the shrine's god is similar to one, but I suppose her (now translated) profile does say Wind Something for the occupation rather than shrine maiden. Maybe we should decide whether to go with "Charmer" or "Priestess" before someone makes a page for either one. -Redpanda

I'm responsible for both, and I think priestess is better. (I misread it the first time, and didn't properly correct it at the time since I'd been up for too long.) Her stated occupation is essentially a type of shinto priest (hafuri 祝) that apparently places her a rank below ZUN according to this page. --T. Solamarle 00:40, 19 August 2007 (PDT)

In what multiplayer Touhou was Sanae a playable character? Hisoutensoku doesn't count. -Wymar 13:34, 27 November 2010 (PST)

Why "Kotiya"? Not "Kochiya"?

We will write Japanese words in the Hepburn style, which is written better in this place. In this style, "Kochiya" is better. Why is the index Kotiya? I think it's better to fix this spelling in this article and the linkage in the category page. If it's valid, I will correct those points. --Masuo64 18:06, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Wand?

What is Sanae's wand supposed to be? I've never seen anything like it. Although I guess it could be a Gohei just like Reimu's, I've never seen one that had a straight, as opposed to zigzagging, paper Shide streamer. Theoretically you might be able to use anything for this purpose as long as it was blessed or dedicated in some way, but I doubt ZUN just made it up, since he seldom does that kind of thing. On a funnier note, the first time I saw her hold it up (before the spell card back), I thought it looked like a gun >_>. 71.246.250.130 17:03, 25 October 2008 (UTC)A Nameless Fairy

I thought it was a spatula at first, actually. 98.226.224.181 10:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Like Reimu's. It is used to attack youkai and used danmaku. 121.54.93.62 10:12, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Those wands are called Gohei and they are indeed used for shinto rituals, youkai exorcism or exorcism of items and things that are thought to be filled with negative energy in general. Their form can vary, and unlike Reimu's which represent chaos and illusion, Sanae's gohei is shaped to represent order and reality. DarkHedge 20:57, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Mountain of Faith Sea Opening Spellcard

Possibly subjective, so I'll ask it here: I believe that this set of Sanae's spellcards is a reference to an attack made by EX-Alice in Mystic Square, the major differences were Alice's 'waves' were red, and she also fired what looks like "wings" of bullets. Can I put that on?Universalperson 20:20, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Red? That's another reference to Moses's miracle. Since he split the "Red" Sea. Allowing passage. However what i knew, it's not really red... maybe you seen the red chain-knives. -Dandan550 09:32, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
An even more major difference being in that the waves come one at a time at decent speed in EX-Alice's version and in Sanea's the waves shift slowly. --BrawlerGamma 00:22, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Sanae and popularity polls

There's been a real trend of Sanae losing ground in the japanese ones after the boost she got in UFO while in the west if anything the opposite is happening. The question of "Why" has been bugging me as I can't put my finger on it. I have theories such as Sanae's character changes is putting japanese fans off/ZUN's pushing of her as a new heroine is backfiring.--ReiKusanagi (talk) 18:25, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Sanae hasn't really changed too much since UFO as far as I can tell. Who's beating her in the popularity polls now that wasn't, before? This may possibly (possibly) be a case of various Japanese liking a new character or a new development of an old character more than anything to do with Sanae. Last I heard the usual standboys (Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, etc), or characters not really developed too much in recent years.
