Notes
- ↑ Throughout Japanese history, monks in Buddhist temples traditionally handled the education of children in local communities. When children's education was first institutionalized in Japan in the Edo period, it was in the form of 寺子屋, Terako-ya, or Temple Schools.
The Seven Temple Mysteries, appears to be one of the many formats that the legends that tell of Seven Mysteries take on. Some shrines and temples have mysteries dating back hundreds of years, such as the Seven Mysteries of Suwa Grand Shrine and the Seven Mysteries of Dojoji Temple.
Bunbuku Chagama, is an old Japanese folktale. It includes a part where a Buddhist monk uses a tanuki transformed into kettle to boil water, to the tanuki's great discomfort. The story is the namesake of Mamizou's HM-only spell Transformation "Bunbuku Hot Soup Bathtub".
“one-cook dream” or “dreaming during one cook”, is an expression originating from the Tang dynasty folktale commonly known in Japanese as 邯鄲の枕, The Pillow in Kantan. In the story, a man searching for the meaning of his life visits the town of Handan (Kantan in Japanese) to meet with a hermit. The hermit grants him a pillow said to make all your dreams come true. Using the pillow, he immediately becomes successful, married, and thrust into a turbulent and eventful life, to finally become an advisory to the king, famous and beloved. However, upon dying, he awakes once more to the hermit telling him that his portion of millet is finished. The man realizes that the life he experienced in reality just was a near-instantaneous dream. The moral of the story is the fleetingness of reality as we know it, and how both our accomplishments and failures are inherently ephemeral.
Shuto Expressway, lit. the Capital Highway, is a network of toll expressways in the Greater Tokyo Area of Japan.
Namu Sanbou, lit. "Hail the Three Treasures". A Buddhist prayer. Commonly abbreviated as Namusan.
