White Canvas was told in December 2011 by ZUN that he has put their right to sell Team Shanghai Alice products on hold. [1]

According to Twilight Frontier (as they help ZUN in matters related to online shopping), White Canvas did not pay royalties on product sales. ZUN also noted that they began to produce some Touhou-related products without permission from Team Shanghai Alice. According to ZUN, this violates the current version of the Terms of Use on using Touhou in commercially produced merchandise.

ZUN has expressed regret about this situation which could cause Twilight Frontier some financial problems. He also noted that earlier this shop was a completely trustworthy partner.

On December 21, 2011, White Canvas published official comments on its case. [2] White Canvas said that it is settling this matter in court with the operating company of Twilight Frontier, SUNFISH Co. Ltd. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the statements on ZUN's blog. White Canvas claims to have followed a licensing agreement signed with ZUN in 2007.

On March 1, 2012 ZUN said on Twitter that he and White Canvas came to an agreement that the shop can start selling his games again. [3]

Press

Anime News Network has published an article about this issue on the 20th of December, 2011. [4] Since then the news spread in the English speaking community. This resulted in many fans taking it as a kind of incident that may affect releases of future Touhou games.
