Mai (マイ) is a Witch who residates from Makai. She is one of the two fourth stage bosses of Mystic Square, along with Yuki.

Concept
Name
Mai has exactly the same name as Mai from the Seihou Project, except Seihou's Mai has hiragana characters and Mai from the Touhou Project has katakana.
Appearance
In Mystic Square's official art, Mai has light-blue eyes and blue hair, she has a light pink bow in her hair. She also wears a light pink dress and has small light pink wings. She also has another form where she is seen with large white demon wings.

Samidare Canon
- Note: This section is part of the game Samidare, by Amusement Makers/RebRank.
Mai (along with Yuki) made an appearance as the second midboss of the extra stage of Samidare, which shows a huge reference to their battle in Mystic Square's fourth stage. However, this appearance is unofficial since ZUN didn't had involvement with the game and that her appearance was by Yoko (blankvision), one of the members of "Shunsatsu sare do?" and RebRank. She appears just as same as she did in the PC-98, except she appears to have a blue sphere of light glowing around her. Furthermore, Yuki and Mai's second attack looks very similar to Alice Margatroid's second attack in Mystic Square's Extra Stage.
Story
- Mystic Square
When the heroine traveled into Makai during the events of Mystic Square Mai was waiting for her arrival. Along with her partner Yuki she attempted to prevent the heroine from going any further in a two on one battle, but ultimately failed. Mai is the more quiet of the two, but seems to think she's stronger also. If Yuki is defeated first, Mai will claim Yuki was just holding her back.

Relationships
Yuki
Yuki is Yuki's fellow Witch, and are possibly friends. During the fourth stage of Mystic Square, Mai feels rather happy and shows no pity towards Yuki if she gets defeated first, and even calls her: "dead weight". Unlike her partner, who will feel sad if Mai gets defeated first. Mai also claimed to be stronger than Yuki.
Shinki
Shinki is the creator of Makai and has created everything within it. Due to this, Shinki may have also created Mai. Shinki may also be Mai's mistress.

Trivia
- She bears resemblance to Remilia Scarlet. She also bears resemblance to Cirno, who is also talented in ice magic.
- Despite her claiming that she is stronger than Yuki, her in-game bullet patterns are found to be less complex and easier to deal with than her fellow witch's. This irony may be purely coincidental, or perhaps not.
- Mai's personality and theme song name may be a reference to the ninth circle of Hell in the Divine Comedy, which represents the treacherous sin with the frozen river named Cocyte, where the biblical traitor Judas Iscariot is being tortured for all eternity.

- Mai has been depicted with Cirno occasionally, mostly showing their talent with ice magic together.
