Title Screen
Eastern Beanstalk
Moriya no mori
Forest of Moriya ~ Eastern Beanstalk Wanwan

The title screen theme.

As usual it's completely laid-back(?)
The characters for "forest" and "shrine" look pretty similar, so the title has to be some mistake.
Without realizing it you become confident that it says shrine or something.

Stage 1 Theme
Shiosai no kouji
Alleyway of Roaring Waves Wanwan

The stage 1 theme.

For the beginning I imagined a refreshing sea.
Of course for summer vacation you'll go to the sea or a pool or someplace like that.
Well, I'm your typical iron weight, so I stay home and cool myself off there..._(:3 」∠ )_

Stage 1 Boss - Aragami no Kusuko's Theme
Ruten suru kodai shinkou
An Ever-Shifting Ancient Faith Wanwan

Aragami no Kusuko's theme.

When I was a kid I got sick a lot and had to take some awful medicine.
They say that good medicine tastes bad, but powdered medicine is just too awful.
Even now I only like pills and capsules so it sucks when I'm prescribed powder.

Stage 2 Theme
Yuuyake ni dan o make
Spread Bullets Over the Sunset Wanwan

The stage 2 theme.

Sunsets have a strong image of the end of the game,
so I'm having a difficult time imagining a sunset in the early game.
You see that red color and it feels especially negative.

Stage 2 Boss - Momo Tobikura's Theme
Risu wa denki nezumi no yume o miru ka?
Do Squirrels Dream of Electric Mice?[1] Wanwan

Momo Tobikura's theme.

It's a song which at some point doesn't quite become cool.
I couldn't read it to the point where I had to look it up, but "risu" is what you would call a squirrel.
Now that I think about it, wasn't there already an electric squirrel...?

Stage 3 Theme
Nefirimu no yobigoe
The Call of the Nephilim Wanwan

The stage 3 theme.

It's a song with a scary mood which is, on the contrary, somehow cheerful.
The so-called Nephilim are a race of giants that appear in the bible;
Professor Wikipedia also says that they're beings which have fallen from heaven.

Stage 3 Boss - Saraka Sant'Angelo's Theme
Angelic Night
Gekka no sakubou
Machinations Under the Moon ~ Angelic Night Wanwan

Saraka Sant'Angelo's theme.

No matter how you look at it you can hear a phrase from someone else's theme.
Just as you may guess, this time it's a ripoff... or rather a homage.
I'm boldly going this far, as I did in the last work, but I think it's probably alright. (Sweat)

Stage 4 Theme
Tābyuransu tābin
Turbulence Turbine Wanwan

The stage 4 theme.

I ended up aiming for a song with a cool, refreshing atmosphere.
It's like the aspects flowing with that calm laid-back style rise to the surface and may or may not come towards you.
On the other hand all the turbulence isn't very turbine-like. Spin-spin.

Stage 4 Boss - Tenmu Suitokuin's Theme
Royal Monster
Tenmu ryuusei
Tenmu Meteor ~ Royal Monster Wanwan

Tenmu Suitokuin's theme.

If you compare this character's basis to the ones up until now, you feel like this song is really amazing.
No matter what sort of perfect plan you have, if you actually try it it'll end up in failure.
There are lots of occasions like that, you don't even have to be a clumsy girl.

Stage 5 Theme
Mirukī burōdowei
Milky Broadway Wanwan

The stage 5 theme.

I think it's a song with the atmosphere of the later half of the game starting up.
A long time ago, when I saw a certain king of a hundred beasts, the pressure onstage was really intense,
but the performance of the orchestra below the stage was just as amazing. I only remember it vaguely.

Stage 5 Boss - An Yaezaki's Theme
senhyakujuu-nen-me no tobiume densetsu
The 1110th Year's Legend of Tobiume Wanwan

An Yaezaki's theme.

I tried having all those chibi girls who have appeared a bunch of times perform on onstage.
They all have musical instruments so at great lengths I have them working.
I thought they would really go badly together but traditional Japanese music and electric synth are unexpectedly well-suited for each other.

Stage 6 Theme
Kotodama no reibyou
Spirit Mausoleum of the Spirit of Language Wanwan

The stage 6 theme.

Although you may not know it, an unexpectedly large amount of importance has been put into the spirit of language.
To this day people still pray to pass exams as they did long ago,
although both the businesses and the shrines are making jokes of it.

Stage 6 Boss - Mitama Magahara's Theme
Lightning Word
Tenman tasu mitama
Sky-Filling Departed Spirit ~ Lightning Word [2] Wanwan

Mitama Magahara's theme.

I tried making a cool sounding song that feels like it might jump towards you like an electric shock.
The sudden storm a bit ago was a terrible day, and the thunder was roaring away too.
My stomach is growling up a storm too, it's pretty awful.

Stage 6 Boss - Mitama Magahara's Last Spell Theme
Infinity Lightning
Genkou saika
Fantastic Light, Ancient Flowers ~ Infinity Lightning Wanwan

The last spell theme.

The final boss theme was really boss-ish and had a relentless feeling to it,
so to contrast it I made this song into something like the middle of a great calm.
When I open the lid to see, I'm not sure whether it's supposed to be solemn or a little happy.

Extra Stage Theme
Dīvazu dibaisu
Diva's Device Wanwan

The extra stage theme.

It's not like you're in a hurry, but it has a good sense of speed.
There's also a sense of divinity, although you may not have felt it.
I used a phrase very similar to the theme of "that girl" who you meet along the way.

Extra Stage Boss - Riko Toone's Theme
Prospect Mirai
Inochi o michibiku uta
Life-Guiding Song ~ Prospect Mirai Wanwan

Riko Toone's theme.

For this theme I combined elements of both Touhou and vocaloid songs.
If you try to decide which one it's more similar to you'll come to think that it's not like either of them.
In a sense I wonder if it isn't perfect for an extra stage.

Ending Theme
Doumeijuu tenmanguu
Doumeijuu Tenman-guu [3] Wanwan

The ending theme.

As a continuation of the stage 5 boss theme I made it a song with both traditional Japanese music and electric synth.
Talking about Tenman-guu, just looking at the characters you're reminded of an older Japan.
Even if you write something like "Norwegian Tenman-guu" it's still fundamentally Japanese. (?)

Staff Roll Theme
Grown Dream
Ekorojī reimei
Ecology Daybreak ~ Grown Dream Wanwan

The staff roll theme.

You may have been able to notice it the moment it came on,
but rather than a quote this turned into a so-called arrange.
I think if you can somehow hear an eco theme in it, I've succeeded.

Score theme
Pureiyāzu sukoa
Player's Score Wanwan

The game over theme.

I created this with great pains.
For some reason it's even lonelier than what I was aiming for.
Even if you fail, there's always next time. In games as well as in life.

Notes

  1. This appears to be a reference to the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? By Phillip K. Dick.
  2. 天満たす ("sky-filling"): A reference to the Tenman-guu (天満宮, "sky-filling shrines"), shrines built to enshrine and calm the spirit of Sugawara no Michizane. The term is derived from how Sugawara's vengeful spirit is said to have filled the skies with thunderstorms.
  3. Tenman-guu: shrines built to enshrine and calm the spirit of Sugawara no Michizane. "Doumeijuu" (Life-Guiding Tree) is meant to sound similar to "Doumyouji" (道明寺), which is one such temple.
