心霊写真が撮れると言われるあの世までやって
きました。早速大きな霊が撮れましたよ?
うっかり死に誘われそうでしたが。
Translation
I have travelled to the Netherworld,
which is known for spirit photographs.
Soon I was able to take some pictures of large spirits.
They seemed to be inviting me to join them...

ゴザを敷き詰めて、なにやら忙しそうだった
ので、写真に収めておきました。
Translation
It looked as if she was securing a place for flower-viewing.
She seemed pretty busy, spreading and securing a mat,
so I went ahead and took some pictures.

元気な心霊写真です。これだけはっきりと霊が
写っているなんてなかなか無いです。
インチキじゃ無いですよ?
Translation
A photo of some lively spirits. These don't
really capture the essence of them, though.
They aren't fake ghost.

迫力満点!な心霊写真です。
よく見ると小さなオーブも大量に写っています。
ここは一体どういう場所……ってあの世でしたね。

"How charming!" That kind of spirit photograph.
If you look closely, you can see lots of small orbs.
What kinda place is this...ah, it's the Netherworld.

That speed is quite impressive.
But doesn't she get dizzy?

あの世の蝶って眩しく光るものなんですね。
今度、あの世特集でも組もうかな。
「図解!3倍楽しくあの世に逝く方法」うーん。
Translation
Butterflies of the Netherworld are so bright and radiant.
I might just do a feature on this place next time.
"Explanation with pictures! How to have three times more fun dying and going to the Netherworld!" Hmm.

Notes

  1. The kanji ("esoteric") in the card's prefix is taken from Mikkyō (密教), a term that literally means "esoteric teachings". It refers to the esoteric Vajrayana practices of Shingon Buddhism. The term also applies to the esoteric practices of Tendai and Kegon Buddhism.
  2. "Odaishi-sama" is one of several names used for Kūkai, founder of the Shingon school of Buddhism. "The Secret Key to the Heart Sutra" (般若心経秘鍵 Hannya-shingyō hiken) is Kūkai's annotated translation of the Vajrayana.
  3. 護摩 (Goma): a Shingon ritual in which boards are ceremonially burnt. The boards represent one's troubles and accidents, and pray health, prosperity, and divine aid. The most demanding Goma training uses eight thousand wooden boards. Practitioners of Shugendo also adopted this ceremony.
  4. 酔生夢死: a phrase meaning "to live audaciously, and to then die as if peacefully dreaming".
  5. "Ozunu" pronunciation taken from The Grimoire of Marisa
  6. En no Ozuno (also En no Ozunu, En no Gyoja): founder of Shugendo, a mystical Japanese religion that combines aspects of Shinto, Taoism, and Buddhism.
  7. 死蝶浮月 (shi-chou-fu-getsu): likely a pun on 花鳥風月 (ka-chou-fuu-getsu), a phrase that means "beautiful aspects of nature".
