Q: I want to make derivative work based on the Touhou series's characters and settings.

The copyright of the Touhou series, including its characters, content, quotes, and music belong
to my circle. That said, this series is supported by many [[Wikipedia:doujin|doujin]] creators. (Thank you)

For the usual activities in doujin (uploading material on a homepage, selling them in a convention
or in [[Wikipedia:vanity press|a shop at your own expense]]), or doujin material (derivative comics, stories,
games, CGs, goods, [[Wikipedia:cosplay|cosplay]]), you do not need to notify me or request my permission. The
copyright of derivative works belong to the creators of said derivatives. If there is trouble
regarding the derivatives of my work, I cannot take responsibility.

To avoid trouble, please satisfy the following conditions.

1. Using game data other than screenshots is forbidden.
2. If you need data other than screenshots, please make them yourself.
3. Content that includes inflammatory material towards us or other copyright owners is forbidden.
4. If possible, please attribute us. (recommended)
5. If possible, please include our contact information in the colophon. (recommended)
6. Please do not mistake the names of the games or the characters.
7. Do not reproduce or reprint ending material, including the text.
8. For the commercial production of derivative material, or the mass circulation of derivative
material outside of doujin shops, you must seek my permission.
To publish on commercial magazines and books, you must notify me.
(You do not need to do so for magazines that describe doujin and derivatives.)
9. If you did not satisfy the above conditions but received my permission, please make clear that
you have received my permission.

Otherwise, decisions like for sale or for free, how many to print, the price to sell them at, adult
only or not, original settings or not, is entirely free for you to choose.
However, if I see material that I decide to not fulfil the above conditions, I have the right to
stop its distribution.

Q. I want to use snapshots on my webpage (for a walkthrough, etc.)

Of course I don't mind. You don't even have to notify me beforehand.
As long as you follow the rules below, I won't mind.

1. Don't post endings.
2. Rescaling is okay, but please preserve the images' aspect ratio.
3. Don't make image content edits that are indistinguishable from the
original images.
This includes things like changing the spell card names, recoloring the
images, or add extra bullets that weren't originally there.
* However, this is okay if it's done as a joke and it's clearly stated
that it's a joke.
4. Things like cropping the images or overlaying them with text are no problem.

If you have any doubts, just ask me and I'll respond.

# [http://www.gensokyo.org/archives/1682 gensokyo.org's translation] of [http://kourindou.exblog.jp/14218252/ ZUN's 2011 addendum to the terms of use] is reproduced below.

Lately the numbers of derivative works explode when commercial works are
released, so I wanted to update the guidelines with that in mind.

I hope things can work something like this.

The basic rules for derivatives by doujin circles aren't really that
different.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guidelines for using the Touhou Project setting - ver. 2011

This is a revision to the Touhou Project guidelines, updated for the
state of affairs in 2011.

Use in doujin activities
[n.b. - things doujin circles should do when making Touhou stuff, like
having contact information visible, attribution, etc.]

Basically, just follow the guidelines as they've been up 'til now.

Detailed information is in the questions and answers collected on this
page, so please have a look.
http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Yoyo/1736/t-081-2.html

Selling doujin works in commercial channels is generally not allowed.

I don't generally review or veto the contents of independent works, so please use
your own personal judgement in and take responsibility for your works.

Applications for commercial goods

You need my permission to sell commercial goods.

A friend of mine has graciously offered to serve as the point of
contact for inquiries about works derived from Touhou.

We'll promptly address inquiries from commercial outfits, so please use the following
form to contact us.
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFBiWldmOUlCYWpWZm9IWFAxVmJpU0E6MQ

In addition, please refrain from making commercial goods of a sexualized
nature (such as dakimakura covers with sexual imagery).

Restrictions on derivative works

I'd like to place the following restrictions on all
derivative works, regardless of whether they're commercial or independent:

For-profit development of works whose main element is animation(*)

Sale of software on the XBox 360 Indies channel

Sale of software via the App Store, Android Market, etc. (for commercial
parties, please get in contact with me)

Sale of works in channels that are further reaching than the distribution channels
used by the original works. The original works are primarily sold in general doujin
channels. So, please refrain from using download sales sites primarily oriented for
overseas customers, etc.

Other works (e.g. works of excessive sexual depictions and works that would slander
a particular person, group or race) when we determine that such works are extremely
inappropriate given societal norms.

I'll leave the question of what to do with works released before this update
to the guidelines that may fall astray of one of its provisions up to the
judgement of their creators.

* By this I mean so-called "traditional cell animation"; computer-generated 3D
animation and 2D illustrations with special effects processing aren't included
in this restriction.

Excuse me, but why did you revert my edits to her page before the adequate summary was found? It was left bare for a very long time, so I thought that I was doing this community a favor. == New guidelines page ==

I'm constructing a new editing guidelines page [[Guidelines|here]], which aims to be the definitive source on standards and such for the wiki. Help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! It would probably be better to discuss things of those topics there, as well. [[User:Darkslime|Darkslime]] 20:24, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
:Perhaps [[Touhou_Wiki:Policy|policies]] and [[Touhou_Wiki:Copyrights|copyrights]] should be merged into this. This would save on two extra pages. == [[English patches]] for official games ==

The page is in a bit of a shambles. The patches for [[Perfect Cherry Blossom: English patch|PCB]] are completely missing. The patch for [[Embodiment of Scarlet Devil: English patch|EoSD]] leads to version 0.8 from 2007, and I'm not sure if there is a newer version. Could someone who has good knowledge of the English patching scene make sure that all the English patch links on the wiki (for the official games) are up to date with the newest version and valid? Also, if there are no English patches for games 3-5, perhaps a notice could be put on the page?
Some other notes:
[[Phantasmagoria of Flower View/English Patch]] doesn't seem to contain any useful information, and I'm not sure what [[Phantasmagoria of Flower View: In-game images to translate]] and [[:Category:Phantasmagoria of Flower View Translation Screens]] are up to.
Also, the weather patch should include a description of what the weather patch is. That is, if the weather patch wasn't rendered obsolete by the full patch, in which case it should be removed. Anybody familiar with the patches?
:If the weather patch here was the same one from wikia (oh noez!) then it isn't completely obsolete but it's unneccessary. I remember this patching telling the player outright how the weather affects gameplay and the full patch just hints at what the weather does.
Wish me luck, and I'll be listing the sites I've got the word out to!

:[http://www.youtube.com/ Youtube] Yeah, that's right. I'm making comments to ALL the vids (as Thelarrman) to be sure they credit us!
:[http://www.doujinstyle.com/ Doujinstyle] They are some curious people!

:I mean, a bunch of people already combed the internet for links way back when when the move was first happening (TvTropes, random wikis, etc.) but I just rechecked the other day to see if they missed anything relatively big (inevitable, since there are so many links). Don't bother with the obscure ones - a lot of the links are in places where they can't be changed, but if you come across any other high traffic sites like the above still linking to the old wiki, then yeah, feel free to spread the word.
== Updating your subpages ==

Please update your articles so that any related articles are properly nested as a subpage. All subpage articles should follow the main article, followed by a slash, followed by the article name.

For example, [[Youkai Tan Q Roku/Items]]

Where [[Youkai Tan Q Roku]] is the main article and [[Youkai Tan Q Roku/Items]] is a subpage. You can see that the Items article contains a link back to the parent page. More information on subpages can be found [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Subpages here]

Any future sub-articles to an article should be created with this structure. Possible applications include, but not limited to:
*Games (gameplay, translation, etc.)
*Print works (chapter 1, chapter 2, etc.)
*Conventions (specific conventions would be a subpage to the main conventions page, which will be created later)

I personally would prefer updating the main article to link to the new subpage directly as opposed to using the re-direct, but that is up to you.
Some problems I see with the appearance is the page title. It will contain the entire name you see in the URL. This can be quite ugly. I have moved different types of pages like [[Concealed_the_Conclusion/Translation/Prologue|a translation article for a game]]. We can see that as I decided to structure it as such, the page title is really long. Perhaps there is a way to make it so the page title will only show the last part of the URL? Or maybe we can define our own custom page titles.

This will be the solution to removing all of the existing "Return to" links. --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 14:33, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

:I am not 100% sure, but it's probably best if we use <nowiki>[[/subpage_name| ]]</nowiki> to link to the subpages. That way, if we decided to move the main article (and consequently all of the subpages), the links would not depend on the base name. Maybe someone can verify --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 05:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
::Tsukihime, verfied. The
<nowiki>[[/subpage_name]]</nowiki>
link works - [[User:KyoriAsh|KyoriAsh]] 06:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
::Second that, and I would add that it's much easier to type. [[User:Pufferfish101|Pufferfish]][[User talk:Pufferfish101|101]] 06:54, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
:::Btw, remember that if you just type [/name] the / will still be there lol --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 14:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Subpage Link Example:
*[[Embodiment of Scarlet Devil/Spell Cards|EoSD Spell Cards]]
*[[Embodiment of Scarlet Devil/Spell Cards/Stage 2|EoSD Spell Cards for Stage 2]]

== Re-structuring Articles ==

We should probably consider re-structuring pages if necessary before actually moving them. Of course, many have already been doing that (ie: placing individual spell card pages under the main spell card article, etc) but I've found that the number of layers that I've been making is getting a little high (ie: sub-sub-sub-subpages) because I've been using the "Return to" links as a guide.

For example, in most Games, we have the main article, and then sections for Gameplay, Translation, Maps, and Music. Preferably, I would like subpages to be at most 2 layers deep (sub-subpages), as attempting to link to it from outside of the main article would be pretty crazy!

Some articles would definitely need some thought put into it --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 14:12, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

==Uploads of (official) printworks / piracy in general==
{{Main|Touhou Wiki talk:Copyrights}}

== Doujin Circles ==

We should make a really big deal with this. Like, a huge deal. So I have come up with some categories so far:
*Doujin Circle/Game (for games)
*Doujin Circle/Arrange (for music)
*Doujin Circle/Print (print works I suppose?)
*...and maybe more

We'll have a main Doujin Circle page. It will be a master list of all doujin circles throughout the wiki, which is about 1000. This means we'll have to start categorizing groups appropriately.

Every doujin circle will have their own page. Their page will serve as some general profile along with all of their works that they've released.

We'll have a conventions page that will list all of the conventions (as opposed to the conventions category) and each convention will have its own page as a subpage under this (ie: Conventions/Comiket 79). There could be several installments, and we have one of the "summary" pages (ie: [[Reitaisai]]) so I'm not too sure how this might be structured. Conventions/Comiket/Comiket 79 perhaps?

Each convention subpage will contain information about the convention. Maybe a [[Comiket_79|map]] if people really want to make one. Otherwise, just a list of products released during that convention.

The following main articles are proposed:

*Conventions (master list of conventions)
*Doujin Circles (master list of doujin circles)

All information would be structured appropriately. It would be quite unfeasible to maintain (or even create) these pages manually, so with the existing resources it doesn't really work :< --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 15:29, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

:One other possible category that I would propose is having another category for animations (possibly include flash?) and whatever category M-1 skits would fall into. I take it that these categories are not mutually exclusive. With regards to Comiket information, I'm not sure if map information is essential, since I don't see any use for it after the convention ends (maybe someone else does?). Basic statistics (such as how many participating circles) would be nice. [[User:Kiefmaster99|Kiefmaster99]] 23:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
:: Flash would be a good addition. I think there are more and more video/flash works coming out and are pretty well-done. They definitely should have their own category --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 19:52, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
==Regarding some redirect pages==
I see that some redirect pages have recently been deleted. Well, as we are moving most of the "Main page: Subpage" stuff to "Main page/Subpage", can't we delete the "Main page: Subpage" if we can? [[User:Deathsoul4|Deathsoul4]] 05:10, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

::I was on a crusade with deleting re-directs, but then others on IRC mentioned that external websites may be using some of those links. I personally don't see a problem with it, but I was convinced that it makes no real difference in the end so I just didn't bother deleting them. I mean, I can move pages without even creating redirects, but for the convenience of some arbitrary user out there, it probably isn't too bad to keep a re-direct. --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 19:41, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
== New talk page structure ==

I've made an attempt to organize how discussions take place. Anything that requires discussion (ie: adding a new feature, organizing content, etc.) should probably have their own page for it. It is also easier to see what kind of things we've discussed --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 17:08, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
:You mean something like [[Talk: Touhou Wiki/Fandom]], [[Talk: Touhou Wiki/Yukari Yakumo]], and [[Talk: Touhou Wiki/How to use a bomb]] under the discussion page, and probably the talk page should kind of look like this:

==blah blah blah==
(previous discussion materials)
==blah blah blah blah==
(matters not that important so as to make a separate discussion page--e.g. sth like popularity votes or sth)
==Discussions==
[[/Fandom]]
[[/Yukari Yakumo]]
[[/How to use a bomb]]
== Regarding My Nuking of Wikia Refferences ==

Before anyone "follows my example" by nuking the rest of the references to wikia. I've been following the following criteria:
''Userpages and talk pages is off limits unless it was painfully obvious that the person in question intended to link to the new link(mostly revision logs and diffs) or the user in question was a wikia bot.''

Also someone should probably take a look at the help pages and add the delete template to pages that no longer make any sense or redirect people to the Wikipedia equivalent.--[[User:Umhyuk|Umhyuk]] 06:07, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Talk:LLS_4th_Stage_Midboss&diff=152523Talk:LLS 4th Stage Midboss2011-01-19T05:48:50Z
Umhyuk:

== Japanese Pronunciation ==
Kinda curious here. If she's called "名無し" in Japan, what would be the pronunciation of that? The only thing I can get out of it is that it ends in -shi, which is obviously different from her "Western" name. [[user:jigglyppuff8|!8RstuPId2Y]] 21:18, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
:According to a kanji dictionary site I use(the same way I came up with "Rengeteki"), 名 can be pronounced as "mei", "myou", or "na". 無 can be pronounced as "mu", "bu" or "na". Interestingly enough, this kanji means "nothing" or "zero". Perhaps 名無し means that she has no name? But if that's it, wouldn't it be kind of weird to just call her "no name"? Oh yeah, perhaps you could find a better way to word that fact...^^; I couldn't think of anything else to use besides "Western fans". I thought "English-speaking"(or anything else for that matter) wouldn't be quite right in this sense.
::It could work like Tokiko did where we use Rengeteki and "Unnamed returning midboss fairy" or something. By chance, "名無し" shows up on her page as well as part of "Unnamed Book Reading Youkai". Huh.
:::名無し = nanasi = nameless. It's not a name.
Besides, Daiyousei was originally a fan-made name, but ZUN made it official. Besides, I don't think that's a reason to remove almost all the funfacts from her page, that is, if you were the one who did it. Also, is it really necessary to remove her relationship with Yuka?

'''Copying from Wikipedia''' to this wiki is permissible because both use the same license. However, it is necessary to include the proper acknowledgment so that readers can refer to the original and discover its authors.

Whenever you do such copying from a page in the English-language ("en") version of Wikipedia, please add the following template near the bottom of the page: "Wikipedia|" (inside double curly braces, i.e.
<nowiki>{{Wikipedia|}}</nowiki>
). Then before the final brackets paste the name of the Wikipedia article. You need to add similar attribution for other languages of Wikipedia and for other GFDL projects.

Note that this wiki is not intended to duplicate substantial portions of Wikipedia. You may copy all or part of an article (and its links and templates) to start off a page on the subject, but you are expected to adapt it so as to reflect this particular wiki's slant on the subject.

Different users have access to different functions of the site. Wiki requesters are given administrator and bureaucrat access. They can make any other user on their wiki an administrator or bureaucrat.

==Anyone==

Anyone, including users without a user [[w:account|account]], can read the wiki as well as create new pages and edit unprotected pages. Any non-banned user is free to create a user account.

==Logged in users==

Users who have [[Special:Userlogin|created an account and logged in]] (this is free and only requires a username and password) can change the title of a page by moving it. (That is much better and faster than creating a new page and moving the content.)

Logged-in users can upload an image or other file to the wiki. There are restrictions on which file types can be uploaded.

Logged-in users can mark a page on recent changes as "[[w:Recent changes patrol|patrolled]]" to show other users that they have checked an edit.

Logged-in users can also customize the display of the wiki using [[Special:Preferences]], as well as maintain a page watchlist.

==Rollback==

Users with the "rollback" permission are able to revert vandalism and bad-faith edits by using the rollback link on diff pages and user contributions list. They are just like logged-in users, only with one extra button.

Bureaucrats can give users rollback rights by using the form at [[Special:Giverollback]]. The action will be logged on [[Special:Log/gvrollback]].

==Administrators ("sysops")==

Administrators can [[w:deletion|delete]] pages and page histories. They can also undelete a previously deleted page, or undelete specific revisions of it. Administrators can also delete and undelete uploaded files.

Administrators can lock (protect) a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights.

Administrators can block an IP address or user name from editing.

Administrators can [[w:Help:Revert|revert]] bad edits more easily using a "rollback" link which appears on diff pages and user contributions lists.

Administrators can edit the [[w:MediaWiki namespace|MediaWiki namespace]] to make changes to the interface.

On Wikipedia, an admin is defined as a "trusted user". You should be aware that this might ''not'' be the case on this wiki. The requester of a wiki will be given admin access to that wiki on the [[MeatBall:PrincipleOfFirstTrust|Principle of First Trust]]. If a user later turns out to be irresponsible with the admin access, it may be removed by [[Special:Listusers/staff|staff]] at any time.

For details, see the [[Help:Administrators' how-to guide|administrators' how-to guide]].

==Bureaucrats==

A bureaucrat can make other users into bureaucrats or administrators on the wiki where they are a bureaucrat and give trusted users a [[Help:GiveRollback|rollback function]] on their own wiki. They are not currently able to remove admin access from any user. Please contact [[User:Angela|Angela]] if you need admin access removed from any user.

===Instructions for bureaucrats===
(''Please see [[Help:User access levels#Instructions for bureaucrats|Central Wiki help page]] for full details.'')
Briefly, the commonest duties are:
#Bureaucrat can grant or revoke rollback rights for users through [[Special:Giverollback]].
#Bureaucrats can turn other users into admins or bureaucrats using [[Special:Makesysop]]. There is a link to this on the list of [[Special:Specialpages|special pages]].

==Staff==

Some Wiki staff members have full access to all wikis. They will be shown in [[Special:Listusers/staff]] on any wiki. Please see [[w:contact us|contact us]] for details on how to contact this wiki's staff.

A '''namespace''' is a type of page in the wiki. Each page belongs to exactly one namespace. The corresponding namespace to a page is indicated the by the word preceding the colon in the address line. If there is no such word, the page belongs to the Main namespace of that Wiki.

Namespaces are used for the following reasons:

*allows separation of different kinds of unrelated content;
*several namespaces have special features related to their intended purpose
*allows unrelated content to be stored in one wiki (this requires the use of the namespace prefix in each link)
*provides facilities to limit searches to a particular area
*in principle allows easy exporting
*allows for feature separation
==Basic namespaces==
The '''Main''' namespace ( i.e., ns:0), or article namespace is the informational content of the wiki. In Wikipedia, this would be the encyclopedia article. It is the default namespace and does not use a prefix.

The '''Project''' namespace has the prefix of the title of your Wiki. On some wikis, this is used to give information about the project. Other wikis have less need to separate the content from information about the content so may choose to put these pages in the main namespace. You can use the prefix "Project:" if you do not know the real prefix to use. This will be converted automatically.

The '''User''' namespace has the prefix ''User:'' and is used for information about users of the wiki. A user has a main [[Help:user page|user page]] and possibly some subpages. The main user page is linked from page histories and from recent changes. A user page has links to a user's contributions and a link which allows you to email them.

The '''Image''' namespace is prefixed with ''Image:''. Pages here are also called ''image description pages''. This namespace is for information about images or other files. Every image uploaded will show the information given in the upload summary on the image description page.

The '''MediaWiki''' namespace (prefix ''MediaWiki:'') is a namespace containing interface texts such as link labels and messages. These are only editable by [[Help:user access levels|admins]]. An automatically generated list of all interface messages is at [[Special:Allmessages]].

The '''Template''' namespace can be used for small standard texts which need to be inserted on a number of pages.

The '''Category''' namespace contains categories of pages, with each displaying a list of pages in that category and optional additional text.

The '''Help''' namespace is for help pages on wikis which want to separate these from the main content of the wiki.

==Talk namespaces==
Except for special pages, each namespace has an associated talk namespace. The talk namespaces are designated by adding ''talk:'' to the normal prefix. For example, the talk namespace associated with the main article namespace has the prefix ''Talk:'', while the talk namespace associated with the user namespace has the prefix ''User talk:''. Most of the pages in the talk namespaces are used to discuss changes to the corresponding page in the associated namespace. Pages in the ''user talk namespace'' are used to leave messages for a particular user since they will get automatic notification of any messages left there, see [[Help:User page]].

==Virtual namespaces==
There are two virtual namespaces that do not relate to pages stored in the database.

'''Special''' pages, or the special namespace, are automatically generated, uneditable, pages, such as [[Special:Recentchanges]] or [[Special:Userlogin]].

The '''Media''' namespace can be used to link directly to an image or sound clip, rather than to the image description page.

Ensure you are aware of the relevant [[:Category:Policy|policies]] on your wiki before doing anything described on this page.

==Deleting a page==
#Click the ''delete'' or ''delete this page'' link on the page you want to delete. (If you are using the monobook skin with English as your default language, you can use the shortcut alt+d.)
#You will be shown a page with a box to type in the reason for deletion, and a confirm box. This page will give you a warning if the page has more than one revision in its history. If something looks like nonsense but has a page history, check the history before deleting it! The revision you are looking at could be just a vandalised version of a real article.
#Type your reason for deletion in the box provided. If it is a very short page, the box will contain the page text. For pages that are obviously vandalism, you may wish to leave the full text as the reason. In other cases, you should specify why you are deleting it. (For example, "this page is not about the subject of this wiki" or "this page is a copyright violation".)
#After you have deleted the page, check to see if it has a talk page. If it does, delete this too.
#If the page is being deleted because it should not exist, check that nothing links to it to reduce the chance that it might be created again.
#Follow any other guidelines for deleting pages on your wiki, which may include archiving a deletion discussion.

==Deleting an image==
#Check that you really want to delete the image! Image deletion is not reversible, so please be careful when doing this.
#Click on the image to be deleted, or follow the image link (for example, [[:Image:Example.jpg]]), which will take you to the image's description page.
#To delete all revisions of an image, click "delete all revisions of this image" where it appears in the image history. You may also click "delete" at the top of the page the same way you might for an article.
#To delete an older revision of an image, you must click the ''del'' link which appears next to that revision of the image.
#:If there is more than one revision of an image, clicking the "Delete all revisions of this image" will do exactly that. You cannot delete the most recent one without deleting all older copies as well, and also deleting the image description page. If you would like to delete only the most recent revision, you must revert to an earlier revision first.
#After clicking ''Delete all revisions of this image'', you will see a confirmation screen similar to that used for page deletion. The deletion will be logged at [[Special:Log/delete]]. Again, remember that image deletion is not reversible!
#If the image has a talk page, delete this too.

==Undeleting a page==
Pages can be undeleted for as long as they are in the archive. This archive is occasionally cleared out.
#To restore a page that has not been recreated, look for a message on the page telling you how many deleted revisions there are. To restore a page that has been recreated, this message will appear when you view the page history. (You can also type the full URL to undelete; for example, http://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Special:Undelete&target=Foo to undelete [[Foo]].)
#Click on this to go to a page which displays the deleted revisions. You can look at each revision separately, and choose whether to undelete ''all'' revisions (the default) or selected ones.
#To undelete all revisions, click the ''restore'' button which appears on the confirmation page. (Undeletion occurs as soon as you click this; there is no further confirmation screen or a place to type a reason.)
#To undelete only selected revisions, select the revisions you wish restore with the checkboxes next to each revision, and then click the ''restore'' button. If you do not undelete all revisions, the log will record how many you did restore.
#To view a deleted page without undeleting it, click on the timestamp of the version you wish to see. This will allow you to view that version of the page without restoring it.

==Protecting or unprotecting a page or image==
Administrators may protect pages from editing by anyone other than administrators. Please check to see that you are following the wiki's [[:Category:Policy|policies]]! It is a common mistake to protect pages unnecessarily; remember that protection should be used only to stop vandalism or edit wars. Even main pages do not need to be protected unless they are consistently targets of vandalism.

#Click the ''protect'' or ''protect this page'' link. (If you are using the monobook skin, you can use the shortcut alt+=.)
#:If you are protecting an image, click "protect" on the image description page. When an image is protected, both the page and the image are protected. The image description page will be protected, and non-sysops will not be able to revert the image to an earlier version, or upload a new version over it.
#You will see a confirmation screen. Enter the reason for protection in the box, check the ''confirm'' box, and click confirm. This will be logged at [[Special:Log/protect]]. (Please check this log occasionally to see if there are any pages where protection should be lifted, as it does not expire automatically.)
#If your wiki has a [http://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=10 template] that marks the page as protected, place this template on the page. (If your wiki does not have one, consider making one! This is helpful for new editors who may not understand what is happening or how to request that a protected page be changed.)

Unprotection is done in the same way. The "Protect" button now says "Unprotect".

==Editing a protected page==
Click ''edit this page'' in the normal way. The only difference is the warning at the top of the page reminding you the page is protected. Please check whether your wiki has a protection policy before doing this; you should not leave a page locked to administrator editing only unless there is a strong reason for it.

==Block a user or IP==
Please check whether your wiki has a policy on this! Remember that blocks should be used only to prevent damage to the wiki, and should be used as a last resort.

#Click the ''block'' link that appears next to the IP or username in recent changes or go to [[Special:Blockip]].
#If you went directly to [[Special:Blockip]], fill in the name or IP of the user you want to block in the first field.
#:To block a range of IPs, enter the range in this field instead. If you do not know how to do this, please read [[m:Range blocks]]. If you need help right away because of high-speed vandalism attacks, contact [[Community Team|a staff member]] for assistance.
#Fill in the length of the block in the second field, either from the dropdown menu or, if you select "other", for some other appropriate length according to your wiki's blocking policy. Do not block shared or dynamic IP addresses for a long time (perhaps a week), because the user you wished to block will not be using it for long, but other innocent users may.
#Add the reason for the block in the third field. This reason should explain to the user why they are blocked according your wiki's blocking policy. Remember that other users may be innocently affected by the block and will see this message, so do not put anything offensive, confusing, or vague as the reason.
#Click the ''block this user'' button. This will be logged at [[Special:Log/block]] and the user will appear in the [[Special:Ipblocklist|list of blocked IP addresses and usernames]] until the block expires.

==Unblock a user, IP, or range==
#Go to [[Special:Ipblocklist]] and find the user you want to unblock.
#:If you want to undo an ''autoblock'' on a user with the same IP address as a blocked user, you will need to know the number assigned to the block, which will show up in the block message when the user tries to edit. You do not need to know the user's IP address, but simply unblocking the username will not lift the block.
#Click the ''unblock'' link next to the user, IP, or range you wish to unblock. If a range is blocked, you need to unblock the whole range. It isn't possible to unblock a specific IP from that range.
#Fill in the reason for the unblock on the confirmation page. This will be logged at [[Special:Log/block]], and the user will be immediately unblocked.

==Using sysop revert==
Any user can remove vandalism from a page, but administrators have a ''rollback'' button to make this easier. To revert the edits of one user to the last version by the previous author:

#Click ''rollback'' on the page history, on the user contribution list, or on the diff page. Your revert will be marked as a "minor edit" and given the automatic edit summary ''Reverted edits by X to last version by Y''.
#In cases of large-scale vandalism that floods recent changes, you may use "bot rollback". Add &bot=1 to the end of the URL used to access a user's contributions. For example, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Contributions&target=Vandal&bot=1. When the rollback links on the contributions list are clicked, the revert as well as the original edit that you are reverting will both be hidden from the default Recentchanges display.

==Merging page histories==
Merging page histories is a means of fixing cut and paste moves where the histories do not overlap. This action is not reversible, so please do not attempt it unless you understand the procedure.
#Decide which title the merged article should have. For example, take two pages, "Bird Seed" and "Birdseed". In our example, say it's "Birdseed". Delete the article currently at this title. (You should provide as the reason for deletion "merging page history" or something similar.)
#Move the other page to that new title. (So, move "Bird Seed" to "Birdseed".)
#Delete the page. ("Birdseed"—which had the content you moved from "Bird Seed".)
#Undelete the page. The deleted revisions from ''both'' pages will now be available to restore.

==Editing the interface==
Admins can change the wording of the user interface messages by editing the automatically-protected pages in the MediaWiki namespace. You can see a list of these messages at [[Special:Allmessages]]. You can also change the design of the interface, or "skin", at [[MediaWiki:Monobook.css]].

Please note that changing some pages, such as [[MediaWiki:Monobook.css]] and [[MediaWiki:Monobook.js]], may make the site unusable, needing help to restore it; please be careful in implementing changes if you are not sure what you are doing.
[[Category:Site administration|{{PAGENAME}}]]
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Help:Image_copyright_tags&diff=152510Help:Image copyright tags2011-01-19T05:20:13Z
Umhyuk:

:''This page is based on [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Image copyright tags|Wikipedia:Image copyright tags]]. Please see that page for additional image copyright tags that you may want to use on your wiki.''

All images on this wiki must be free to use under an appropriate license or used under Fair Use. This page will help you figure out which tag to use, and how to tag your images. Most images you find on the web or in a Google image search are '''not''' free to use, even if you don't see any copyright information with them! If you do not know who created an image and what license it is under, you cannot use it.

Please tag images on their image description page (for example [[:Image:Example.jpg|this]] is the description page for Example.jpg) with one of the tags below so we can keep track of its status.

Try to provide as much detail as possible:

* When marking an image as one of the less specific categories (such as CopyrightedFreeUse), try to specify somewhere what the actual license or other permission states.
* If you tag an image as requiring attribution, please specify who needs to be attributed! Note that the GFDL requires attribution.
* If multiple categories apply to an image, add all that apply.

Each tag should be put on a line of its own.

== Tagging options ==

=== Public domain ===

When adding a PD tag, also specify ''why'' the image is PD. Has the author released it into the PD? Is the image old enough to be PD? Is it PD because it was created by a particular government? Is it PD because a user of wiki created it and has uploaded it as PD? If you will be using a lot of PD images on your wiki, you may want to expand these tags and have more specific information included within them.

* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:PD|PD]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki>. Public domain. For example, when the author has put the work into the public domain or the author died over 70 years ago (pre-1935).

===Free licenses===
Be as specific as possible about which version of the license the image is used under. You may want to make more specific templates for your wiki later.

* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:GFDL|GFDL]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> - [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License GNU Free Documentation License]
* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:Other_free|Other Free]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> - Any free license such as the GNU General Public License or Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike
* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:Permission|Permission]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> - For when the owner of the image has given full permission for it to be used freely.
* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:From_Wikimedia|From Wikimedia]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> - For images taken from Wikimedia. Remember to add the specific license information too.
* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:Self|Self]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> - for image you made yourself, and release under a free license. Remember, a specific license tag is much better.

===Fair use===
See [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Image copyright tags|Wikipedia]] for a wider selection of fair use tags, especially if you will be uploading many logos or album covers. Review [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Image description page#Fair use rationale]].

* <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:Fairuse|Fairuse]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> - for a copyrighted image which is contended to be [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Fair use|fair use]].

===Unsuitable===
If you do not know the copyright status, do not upload the image! Non-free Creative Commons licenses are also not permitted. This includes images which do not allow non-commercial use or derivative works (NC and ND licenses), since these are non-[[free content|free]]. The Sampling+ license is also not free.

Wikipedia has a range of tags explaining why an image is unsuitable. For this Wiki with complex deletion procedures, you may want to consider adding such tags for the period of deletion discussion. For other wikis, you may find it more appropriate to delete the image, or tag it specifically with a <nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki> template.

Examples of such tags on Wikipedia include [[Wikipedia:Template:unverified|unverified]], [[Wikipedia:Template:unknown|unknown]], and [[Wikipedia:Template:copyrighted|copyrighted]].

On this wiki, you might want to tag images with <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:No_license|Template:No license]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> until licensing issues can be resolved.

== Rationale ==

# What's "fair use" in one country may not be "fair use" in another country; this allows people creating derivative works in other countries to extract images which aren't legal in their country.
# It is harder to create decent images than decent text, so the temptation to break copyright is bigger, so we like to be a bit more vigilant. For this very reason, sublicensees of this wiki are going to be especially concerned about images, particularly for printed versions.
# Secondly, it's easy to rewrite text that turns out to be copyrighted, but harder (though possible) to do the same for images.
# It is good practice to cite our sources, where we've (legally) copied images from elsewhere. If we give due credit, we're more likely to get permission (and some licenses require due credit anyway).
# Where Wiki users have created the images, they should have a bit of fame! Putting some text on the image description page that they took it themselves, and they license it under the GFDL, is a good way to do that.

==Creating new tags or sub-categories==

Try to use the tags already available at Wikipedia. This makes it easier for people who want to re-use content from both sites.

# First create the template, for example, '''Template:Asdf'''. This can be a quick draft version of a public domain notice, for example.
# Categorize that template to '''Category:Asdf images'''.
# Edit this category to put a description.
# Add the template tag '''<nowiki>{{Image template notice|Asdf}}</nowiki>''' in this category edit.
# Categorize this category to, for example, '''Category:Public domain images'''.
Done.
All you need to do is just tag your uploaded images with '''<nowiki>{{Asdf}}</nowiki>'''.
All those images will be in the '''Category:Asdf images''' which in turn would be a sub-category of '''Category:Public domain images'''.

== Categories ==

Each copyright tag such as '''<nowiki>{{Fairuse}}</nowiki>''' should correspond to a category. Placing such a tag on an image will automatically put it into that category, because that template should already belong to that category.

There are four easy ways to start a new page:

# From an existing page (such as [[Special:Wantedpages]]), you can click a red link to the title of the new page. For example, to create an article called "This link", you could click [[This link]] (unless someone has created it already on this Wiki). You can also create a red link yourself, in a related page or index page or your [[help:user page|user page]]. Links on related pages are convenient for navigation, and they also make people aware of the new page.
# You can start a new page by typing the URL directly in your Address bar. (For example, if you are editing on en.touhouwiki.net and you would like to create "This link", go to <nowiki>http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/This_link</nowiki>.) An easy way to produce the URL is editing the last part of the URL of another page in the same project (using an underline instead of a space between words). To prevent your new page being an "orphan", you should link to it from other pages.
#If you search for a page that is not yet on this wiki, you will see a red link above the search list. Clicking this is another way to get to the edit page for the new article.
#The easiest way to create an article is with an inputbox. Typing the new title in the box, and clicking "Create article", will take you to the edit page for that article. To see how to add an inputbox, look at the code in the edit box of this page, or see the Central [[Help:Inputbox|help page]].
'''Before using one of those last methods, have a search to see whether there is already a page with a name very like the one you propose.''' Splitting pages later is easier than merging near-duplicates.
[[Category:Help|New page]]
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Help:Talk_page&diff=152508Help:Talk page2011-01-19T05:16:44Z
Umhyuk:

'''Talk pages''' are for communicating with other Wiki users, especially about articles and improving this wiki. There is a talk page attached to every other page; just click the '''"discussion"''' or '''"talk page"''' link at the top or side of any page to find it.

==Personal talk pages==
Logged-in contributors have a personal talk page where other users can leave messages. This is found in the same way, by clicking the '''"discussion"''' or '''"talk page"''' link at the top of a [[help:user page|user page]]. If you have a new message on your talk page, you will see a bright banner across the top of all other Wiki pages you visit. Click the link in the message (or the userbar link '''"My talk"''') to go to your talk page.

There are talk pages for non-logged-in contributors too, but these may not always be useful. Because they are linked to IPs, and IPs can change between visits, the messages may not get to the right person. They are used to explain blocks of IPs and may identify where a user is, but may not be very useful for real communication. This is another good reason to [[Help:Why create an account|create an account]].

==Using talk pages==
Comments on talk pages can be picked up by Google and other search engines, and are available under the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License GFD License], so keep that in mind when you write.

It's possible to add a new section to a talk page without opening the whole edit page. Just click the '''"Leave message"''' or '''"+"''' link at the top of the article. You will be given spaces to enter a title for your new section, and to enter your comment. You can then save, and the comment will be added as a new section at the bottom of the page.

If any talk page gets too long, you can create an archive by typing '''<nowiki>[[/Archive]]</nowiki>''' (or any other name you like to use) onto the talk page. You can click the new link (preferably in a new window), and copy over the older comments then delete them from the current page when they are saved.

Some other hints for talk pages:

* Sign your comments by typing '''"<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>"''' (four tildes). This will add your name and the date.
* Add comments to the end of the page.
* Keep your comments polite and friendly. It's always best to be civil, even if things get heated.

[[Category:Help|Talk page]]
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Help:User_page&diff=152507Help:User page2011-01-19T05:16:13Z
Umhyuk:

Every logged-in user has a user page. (For example, if your login name is "MyNick", your user page will have the title "User:MyNick".)

You can find your user page with the link at the top of every page, or by following [[Special:Mypage|this link]]. Most people use user pages to give information about themselves and their interests and keep links to useful things.

You can make your user page as simple or as complicated as you like. You can add formatting or colour with [[Help:Editing|wiki markup]] or with HTML, or leave it plain and simple. You can also add [[Help:Images|pictures]], either a picture of yourself, one that expresses something about you, or just one you like. However, all pictures added to {{SITENAME}} must be [[{{SITENAME}}:Copyrights|free-use]].

Be aware that all pages on this wiki can be picked up by Google and other search engines, and are available under the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License GFDL], so keep that in mind when you write.

==Content==
You may not use your user page for any content that is prohibited on this wiki. This includes copyright violations, pornography, excessive advertising, promotion of illegal activities, and hate speech. See the [[prohibited content]] page on Central for more detail on this.

Other policies for what you can and can't have on your user page should be by community decision, and will differ on every Wiki. However, most communities allow users to do whatever they would like with their userpages, within Wiki policy.

==Editing user pages==

User pages are still wiki pages, so they are open for everyone to edit. Most people will ask before making major changes to someone else's user page though. Small changes, like formatting fixes or spelling corrections, are absolutely fine, and can be done freely - it's always nice to find your user page improved.

[[Category:Help|User page]]
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Help:Preferences&diff=152506Help:Preferences2011-01-19T05:15:08Z
Umhyuk:

==User data==
*'''Real name:''' This may be used to give you attribution for your work. Other users of the wiki will not see this! It probably won't be used for anything, either, though, as most wikis will credit you by your username.

*'''E-mail address:''' Your preferred email address. It is '''strongly recommended''' that you give an email address you use and are likely to have for a long time. If you forget your password, this is the only way you can get it sent back to you!

*'''Nickname:''' The name you would like to have displayed when you sign posts. If you leave this blank, posts will be signed with your username. (For example, if your username is "jbrown123" but you would like to sign as "Jeff", put "Jeff" in the nickname field. If you would like to sign as "jbrown123", leave it blank.) There are lots of ways you can customize your signature using HTML. If you'd like to see how you can do that, see the Central help page at [[Help:Signature]]. The "Raw Signature" box is for those using more advanced customized signatures, which you can find out about at the signature help page.

*'''Language:''' Which language you would like the interface (buttons, system messages) to be in. This can be different from the language that the wiki is in! The articles will stay in whichever language they were originally written in.

*'''Change password:''' Use these fields if you would like to change your password. "Remember across sessions" stores a cookie on your machine so that you do not have to enter your password every time. (If you use a public computer, such as a library or school lab computer, you probably ''don't'' want to do this. But if you're using your home computer that no one else uses, it can be convenient.)

*'''Email:''' Check the box if you do not want other logged-in users to be able to contact you via email. (Normally, the "e-mail this user" link, which is on the side of the screen when you look at any user's user page, will allow users to email you without seeing your email address.)

==Skin==
Select one of the options to decide how you want the pages to look. MonoBook is the default, and there are many things that look or work better on this skin than others. Select the "preview" link by any skin to test it out before selecting it.

==Files==
*'''Limit images on image description pages to:''' allows you to choose a size that will fit on your monitor when you click on an image to see the information about it.

*'''Thumbnail size:''' allows you to choose how big images should be when small "thumbnail" versions are put on a page. Choose a size that you like and works best with your monitor.

==Date format==
Choose the option that best matches your preferred date format. (Several options, including American and European date formats, are available.)

==Time zone==
Specify how many hours your time zone is away from GMT/UTC so that times show in your local time. Clicking "fill in from browser" should do this automatically. If it doesn't, try finding your offset from [[Wikipedia:List_of_time_zones|the Wikipedia list]].

==Editing==
Options with "{JavaScript)" require you to have JavaScript turned on in your browser.

*'''Rows/Columns:''' This sets the size of the edit box for when you edit a page.

*'''Enable section editing via [edit] links:''' When selected, this allows you to edit only part of a page at a time by showing an "edit" link for each subheading. This makes it easier to find the part you wanted to change, though it does clutter the page with "edit" links.

*'''Enable section editing by right clicking on section titles (JavaScript)''': When this is selected, right-clicking on a subheading will let you begin editing that section.

*'''Edit pages on double click (JavaScript):''' When selected, this wil cause double-clicking on a link to another wiki page open an edit window for that page.

*'''Edit box has full width:''' If this box is checked, the edit box (when you click "Edit this page") will be the width of the browser window.

*'''Show edit toolbar (JavaScript):''' A toolbar with editing buttons can be displayed. (A few browsers don't support it yet.)

*'''Show preview on first edit:''' When pressing the edit button or otherwise following a link to an edit page, show not only the edit box but also the rendered page, just like after pressing "Show preview". This is especially useful when viewing a template, because even just viewing, not editing, typically requires both.

*'''Show preview before edit box:''' If you select this option, the preview will be displayed above the edit box when you click the "Show preview" button while editing a page.

*'''Add pages you edit to your watchlist:''' If this option is selected, any pages that you create or modify will be automatically added to your "watchlist", a list of pages you can select to keep track of.

*'''Mark all edits minor by default:''' This option automatically selects the "This is a minor edit" checkbox when you edit pages. If you will be doing a lot of small edits, such as fixing typos or links, rather than writing new material, you may wish to select this option.

*'''Use external editor by default:''' Use an external program to edit pages rather than your browser window. This requires extra setup; see the central help page at [[Help:External editors]].

*'''Use external diff by default:''' Show "diffs" (the difference between one version of a page and another) in an external program rather than in your browser window. This requires extra setup; see [[Help:External editors]].

==Recent changes and stubs==
Options with "{JavaScript)" require you to have JavaScript turned on in your browser.

*'''Threshold for stub display:''' This allows you to show links to very short pages ("stubs") in a different color. The number here is the size (in bytes) of the largest page that should be shown in this color. Leaving this number as 0 will show all links to existing pages in the same color.

*'''Titles in recent changes:''' Select the number of changes to be shown on the [[Special:Recentchanges|Recent Changes]] and [[Special:Watchlist|Watchlist]] pages by default. (You may choose to view a different number by following a link on the page itself.)

*'''Hide minor edits in recent changes:''' Logged-in users may choose to mark very small fixes to pages as "minor". You may choose not to see these edits in Recent Changes, though they will be visible when viewing your watchlist.

*'''Enhanced recent changes (JavaScript):''' When selected, this feature allows you to group recent changes per day by article, display the titles of the changed articles in order from new to old latest change, or in the case of hiding minor edits, latest major change.

==Search==
*'''Hits per page:''' You may choose the number of results returned on each page of search results.

*'''Lines per hit:''' Specifying a number n means "do not show any context if the search term occurs beyond line n in the page." Setting this to 5000 or more gives context for every occurrence.

*'''Context per line:''' The number of characters of context per occurrence; however, the context is anyway restricted to the "line" (anything without a line break; usually a paragraph) it occurs in. To get the whole line, choose a large number like 5000.

*'''Search in these namespaces by default:''' Choose which types of pages you would like to appear in searches by default. (You will be able to change these options from the search page.) For example, selecting "Main" only will return only articles, selecting "Main" and "Talk" would search articles and their discussion pages.

==Misc==
*'''Underline links:''' Choose whether you would prefer links to be underlined. "Browser default" underlines links to wiki articles the same way your browser settings are set for other web links.

*'''Format broken links [[this page does not exist|like this]] (alternative: like this[[this page does not exist|?]]):''' Choose whether you would prefer links to pages that do not yet exist to be underlined and in red.colored red or to show as question marks at the end of the word. (Either way, following these links will take you to an "edit" page.)

*'''Justify paragraphs:''' Select if you want article paragraphs formatted to avoid jagged line endings, or "justified".

*'''Auto-number headings:''' This adds hierarchical outline-style numbering to headers in articles.

*'''Show table of contents (for pages with more than 3 headings):''' If selected, automatically shows a box with a table of contents after the first section for pages with more than 3 section headings (for example, this page). This can make it easy to jump to the section you would like, in a long page, and to copy a direct link to that paragraph so that you can reproduce it elsewhere.

*'''Disable page caching:''' This turns off page caching, which is when you see a previously-stored version of a page stored in a cache, rather than the current version. Selecting this is useful if you're experiencing problems with seeing outdated versions of pages, but may cause longer loading times.
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=User:Spam_cleanup_script&diff=152505User:Spam cleanup script2011-01-19T05:13:46Z
Umhyuk:

This page lists some of the overarching guidelines that have helped [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia|Wikipedia]] the largest and most successful wiki.

# '''BE BOLD!''' in updating pages. Go ahead, it's a wiki!
Encourage others, including those who disagree with you, likewise to '''BE BOLD!'''
# '''Be civil''' to other users at all times.
# '''Ignore all rules'''. If the rules discourage you from improving or maintaining the wiki's quality, ignore them.
# '''When in doubt, take it to the [[Help:Talk page|talk page]]'''. We have all the time in the world. Mutual respect is the guiding behavioural principle of this wiki and, although everyone knows that their writing may be edited mercilessly, it is easier to accept changes if the reasons for them are understood. If you discuss changes on the article's ''talk'' (or ''discussion'') page before you make them, you should reach consensus faster and happier.
#'''[[Project:Copyrights|Respect copyright]]'''. Touhou Wiki uses the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License GNU Free Documentation License]. Everything you contribute must be compatible with that license.
# '''Decent edit summaries''' and clear and transparent explanations are universally appreciated. Other editors need to understand your process, and it also helps you yourself to understand what you did after a long leave of absence from an article. Please state '''''what''''' you changed and '''''why'''''. If the explanation is too long, add more on the discussion page.
#'''Assume good faith'''; in other words, try to consider that the person on the other end of the discussion is a thinking, rational being who is trying to positively contribute to the project — unless, and only unless, you have firm, solid, and objective proof to the contrary. Merely disagreeing with you is no such proof.
#Particularly, '''don't revert good faith edits'''. [[Help:Reverting|Reverting]] is ''too'' powerful sometimes. Don't succumb to the temptation, unless you're reverting very obvious vandalism (like "LALALALAL*&*@#@THIS_SUX0RZ", or someone changing "1+2=3" to "1+2='''17'''"). If you really can't stand something, revert once, with an edit summary something like "(rv) I disagree strongly, I'll explain why in talk." and immediately take it to talk.
# '''No personal attacks'''. Don't write that user such and so is an idiot, or insult him/her (even if (s)he ''is'' an idiot). Instead, explain what they did wrong, why it is wrong, and how to fix it. If possible, fix it yourself (but see above).
# '''Be graceful''': ''Be liberal in what you accept, be conservative in what you do''. Try to accommodate other people's quirks the best you can, but try to be as polite, solid, and straightforward as possible yourself.
# '''Sign your posts on talk pages''' using <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>, which gets replaced by your username and timestamp when you hit Save. But don't sign on mainspace articles.
# '''Use the preview button'''; it helps prevents edit conflicts and mistakes.

It's important to have fun... but try to make sure those around you have fun too!

''At some point, it would be nice to have this page be used for centralized editing guidelines focused on formatting. If you're familiar with Wikis in general, as well as this one (and contribute to it regularly), feel free to revise and customize this page. See [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:MOS WP:MOS] for help. For now, here's [[wikipedia:Wikipedia:Manual of Style|Wikipedia]]'s default Manual of Style page:''

'''This page is a suggested method of styling your wiki - you may wish to edit it to suit your wiki's tastes. You may also wish to add links to various articles that best show off your wiki's design.'''

'''This MoS was based off [[WoWWiki:WoWWiki:Manual of Style|WoWWiki's Manual of Style]]. Remove this notice when the article is finished.'''

----

This '''Manual of Style''' outlines a standard of clean, consistent formatting for articles on this wiki. The formatting described here is a ''guideline'' and can be overridden where circumstances warrant it. These guidelines will never be unerringly perfect for every situation. However, please try your best to keep to the advice outlined in this article so others may use your edits as an example when creating and editing their own articles.

These guidelines are a summary of the most important guidelines for this wiki, but a more expansive set of style guidelines can be found on Wikipedia at [[wikipedia:Wikipedia:Manual of Style|Wikipedia Manual of Style]]. A sample article based off these guidelines can be found on [[Project:Manual of Style/Sample]].

==Article layout==
One of the most important parts of wiki editing is how to structure an article. The structure is a powerful thing: it dictates what information the reader reads and when he or she reads it. It can influence what people contribute, where it goes, and how it might be written. Structure has the power to inform or confuse the same way good or bad writing does. Keep a well structured article, and you're more likely to have a high quality one.

Organize sections in an article in a hierarchical structure like you would an outline. Keep it logical, but feel free to forsake strict logic for readability. Wherever possible, try to have an introduction for each section. Just like the article as a whole, the section should start with an introduction and then have its subsections below it. Try using a shallow structure rather than a deep one. Too many nested sections usually leads to a confusing or unreadable article.

Above all, keep your layout consistent. Don't throw your reader a curve ball too often. The following sections will offer some good advice on keeping your articles clean, consistent, and clear.

===Lead section===
Unless an article is very short, it should start with an introductory lead section, before the first subheading. The lead should ''not'' be explicitly entitled == Introduction == or any equivalent header. The table of contents, if displayed, appears after the lead section and before the first subheading.

The lead should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, establishing context, and explaining why the subject is interesting or notable. It should be between one or two paragraphs long, and should be written in a clear and accessible style so that the reader is encouraged to read the rest of the article.

If possible, make the title the subject of the first sentence of the article. For example, write "King '''Frederick II''' was <nowiki>[[King of Terra]]</nowiki> during and after the <nowiki>[[Second War]]</nowiki>."

The first time the article mentions the title, put it in bold using three apostrophes —
<nowiki>'''article title'''</nowiki>
produces '''article title'''. Avoid other uses of bold in the first sentence, except for alternative titles of an article; for example:

The '''blood elves''', or '''sin'dorei''', are a race comprised of former high elves...

Follow the normal rules for italics in choosing whether to put part or all of the title in italics. This will mainly apply to the titles of books and games:

'''''The Demon Soul''''' is a novel in the ''<nowiki>[[War of the Ancients]]</nowiki>'' trilogy.

Do not put links in the bold reiteration of the title in the article's lead sentence. For example, <strike>"The '''night <nowiki>[[elves]]</nowiki>''' are an ancient race..."</strike> versus "The '''night elves''' are an ancient race."

===Table of contents===
A table of contents will automatically appear in articles with a minimum of '''four''' headings (unless forced by the below options). By default this will be left-aligned above the first section heading.

* To the force a TOC position (left-aligned):
<nowiki>__TOC__</nowiki>

* To completely remove the TOC from a page:
<nowiki>__NOTOC__</nowiki>

The table of contents can be right-aligned - but '''only''' if it is very long (over 15 entries) and an information box is not occupying the top-right corner of the article (rare exceptions exist).

* Right-aligned TOC that floats next to text: {{t|tocright}}

===Section headings===
Use the
==
(two equal signs) style markup for main headings, equivalent to
<nowiki>
</nowiki>
. '''Do not use a single
=
.''' This is because a single
=
creates an
<nowiki>
</nowiki>
heading which is already used by the page header and would be bad coding. Also, do not use wikilinks in subject headings. When edited, these sections become confusing in the edit history because of the link code. Consider instead putting the word in the first or second sentence of the section and linking it there.

Capitalize the first letter only of the first word and of any proper nouns in a heading and leave all of the other letters in lowercase. Use '''"Founding and history"''', not "Founding and History". Note that this is different from most section title rules you'll encounter elsewhere.

Avoid special characters in headings, such as an ampersand (&), a plus sign (+), curly braces ({}), or square braces ([]). In place of the ampersand, use the word "and" unless the ampersand is part of a formal name.

Always keep headings short and simple. Headings are guidelines to your page's structure and should inform the reader rather than confuse. To keep it short, avoid unnecessary words or redundancy in headings, i.e. avoid a, an, and the, pronouns, repeating the article title, and so on. Also, try to avoid giving identical titles to different sections.

===Images===
[[Image:Example.jpg|thumb|Caption]]
Images make an article memorable and pretty. They can speak where words fail. At the same time, misplaced or untidy images can detract from an article. When choosing images, keep in mind placement, size, and the appropriateness of the image to the section. Let images flow with the text instead of break it up.

Large images such as screenshots should use the "thumb" (example:
<nowiki>[[Image:CoolImage.png|thumb]]</nowiki>
) option which displays large images as thumbnails. Images should generally be right aligned to enhance readability by allowing a smooth flow of text down the left margin - the "thumb" option does this by default. If an infobox is not being used in an article, a right aligned picture in the lead section is encouraged.

For more information, see [[Help:Images]].

==== Galleries ====
When an article has many images, or can be improved by having more, and having inline images be detract from the readbility of an articles, the use of a
<nowiki><gallery></nowiki>
section is encouraged.

<gallery>
Image:Example.jpg|Caption
Image:Example.jpg|Caption
</gallery>

=== Tables ===
Tables should use a "class" design when possible, and should include as little 'fancy' formatting as possible. Tables can also be made sortable by adding a "sortable" class.

For long tables, it is recommended to create an "alt" class to alternate row colours to enhance readability. The below examples use "toccolours" as a class, but this is only for the purposes of demonstration, and isn't generally recommended.

==== With row headings, table caption, sortable ====

=== Navigation boxes ===
Navigation boxes can use or be based off {{t|Navigation Box}}. Generally they should be placed at the end of an article, above the categories.

''Expand with more details and examples.''

===Article message boxes===
''Add me! You may want to look at [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Article message boxes|Wikipedia:Article message boxes]].''

===See also, references, external links, and navigational tables===
The last sections, if they exist, should always be "See also", followed by "References", followed by "External links". In the case of "See also", use bullets to list the internal links. Under the references section should be placed
<nowiki><references/></nowiki>
. Finally, in the external links should be ''all'' external links.

===Categories===
Categories should be added to the end of an article - a full list can be found on [[Special:Categories]]. They take the form
<nowiki>[[Category:Categoryname]]</nowiki>
.

All articles should be accessible starting from [[:Category:Browse]], via subcategories.

===Disambiguation===
A disambiguation line is sometimes put at the beginning of an article to link to another article with the same or similar title. The line should be italicized and indented once. Most usually contain the phrase, "Were you looking for X?" For example:

: ''Were you looking for "<nowiki>[[The Battle of Terrafield]]", an official novel?</nowiki>''

The template {{t|for}} can also be used for this purpose.

===Quotations===
Format a long quote (over four lines) as an italicized block quotation, which will be indented from both margins. Do not enclose the block quote in quotation marks. To format a block quotation, do not use the wiki indentation mark "
:
" — instead, use the HTML
<nowiki>
</nowiki>
element.

==Grammar==
Grammar is a writer's toolbox. You can't build good sentences without knowing how to use your tools. Since a wiki article must be as clear as possible for all the people reading it, editors must keep close to correct grammar standards to ensure clear communication.

===Capitalization===
Titles such as lord or king start with a capital letter when used as a title (followed by a name): "King Arthas", not "king Arthas". When used generically, they should be in lower case: "Furion is a powerful lord." The correct formal name of an office is treated as a proper noun. Hence: "Anduin is the current King of Stormwind."

Classes should only be capitalized when used as a proper noun, i.e. as someone's name. ("Warlock, go be evil" versus "That warlock is quite evil.")

===Titles of works===
Italics are used for the titles of works, such as books and games. The titles of articles, chapters, and other short works are not italicized but are enclosed in double quotation marks.

For example, italicize ''<nowiki>[[The Last Guardian]]</nowiki>'' and ''<nowiki>[[World of Warcraft]]</nowiki>'', and use quotes for "<nowiki>[[Arathor and the Troll Wars]]</nowiki>".

== Writing ==
: ''“I believe the road to hell is paved with adverbs”'' -- Stephen King

We now come to the meat of an article: the words themselves. When you're editing wikis, you're both academic and artist. You have to be accurate, but you also have to be interesting. Neither one can dominate; you have to skillfully balance both.

'''Keep your writing concise.''' Don't use two words where one will do. Keeping your writing simple will make it easy to understand and easy to expand on. Use complete sentences whenever possible. When you write, use grammar as a toolbox: know the rules, but only break them on purpose.

'''Check your spelling and grammar.''' Do not use 'u' in place of 'you' or '2' in place of 'to'. Write the way you would for a class paper or a newspaper article.

'''Keep all of the topics you cover within the scope of the article.''' What that means is, you don't need to give a detailed history of humans on the page about Winston Churchill. Consider the article's title as your point of origin and write from that perspective. Make use of the wiki's ability to link to more detailed articles or external sources for more information.

'''Write from an impersonal perspective.'''' Do not use "I." For example, do not write, "Hellscream was a fervent member of the Horde. He served both the Old and New Horde, <strike>As far as I know</strike>." Avoid drawing attention to the author (yourself) as much as possible.

'''Be bold.''' If you know something is wrong, correct it. If you think you could word something better, write it. If an article has a glaring deficiency, fill it. Even if your first attempt isn't golden, you can fix it later or someone else will come along and fix it for you. Don't be afraid to screw up.

== Conclusion ==
Every article can be improved (even this one). Following these guidelines will not ensure a perfect article the first time, but it will give the article a stronger skeleton. It's ultimately your job as an editor to put meat on it.
I started a page for Meimu in the Fanon and Memes category because I think we should provide an explanation for her, but I don't know enough about her to do it myself. -- [[User:SuddenFrost|SuddenFrost]] 17:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
:As I mentioned in the undo comment. Fan derivatives may be popular enough to warrant a fun fact under the character they derive from, but not their own character page, keep those exclusive to the ZUN and Amusement Makers originals.--[[User:umhyuk|umhyuk]] 18:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
::That's why I want it to be a meme page, not a character page. Meimu has less of a connection to Reimu than, say, Yukkureimu does. :::I think if we're going to keep things like this, we should make it something like the [[Relationshipping]] page, where we can just list the fan-made derivative characters and their descriptions, rather than give them each their own separate page. ::::If I could briefly weigh in, Yukkuris are a fixture now of Touhou, a great number of major fan creations, whether it be 3d video, gag comic strips or other mediums, have included Yukkuris as a part of Touhou. :::::We allready have a page for the [[Yukkuri shiteitte ne!|Yukkuris]] and those are the special case that confirms the rule. I see that the info has been moved to the fun facts on the [[Reimu Hakurei]] page, which is fine, but do we really need a picture, considering that she is basically a recoloring of the regular Reimu? But I had a question to see the item of "Characteristics". This item describes "Then, when they learn Shachuu [literally, "abandoning temper"] magic (*2), they become long-lived, complete magicians."

"捨" certainly means "abandon", but "虫" means "insect" or "bug". We Japanese Don't think "虫" means "temper". "temper" means "気" in Japanese, which represents "personality", "trait" or "emotion".

Could you tell me why you translate "捨虫" into "abandoning temper"?
--[[User:Jiyu|Jiyu]] 14:39, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Jiyu

Given the context of "magic to become a complete magician", I figured 虫 was probably being used figuratively, in a similar manner to the expression 虫を殺す, curbing one's anger or temper. If you think a different translation would be more accurate to ZUN's intent, by all means change it; it's simply what seemed likely to me as a non-native speaker. --[[User:Adonic Meki|Adonic Meki]] 00:37, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I see. It certainly exists the idiom 「虫を殺す」, meaning "keep one's temper" in English. As you said It's not precisely for us what metaphor uses. I think it maybe means the bug which hides in all creatures and gradually undermines them, finally kills them. I'll search if there's more accurate translation, and when I find it I'll rewrite this article.

==Initial layout discussion==

I believe that it would be wise to establish a standard layout for all character pages, pertaining primarily to images.

I volunteer this:

'''Main Profile Image''' - In-Game image from most recent game (In many cases, this would be TH09).

'''Official Profiles''' - Include an image of the character from every game that she appears in, including PC-98 incarnations, in order from least to most recent:

''* Game Manual Image'' - Image of character from digital Manual, if available.

''* キャラ設定.txt Image (where applicable)'' - Image of character from in-game.

This is similar to the layout already used on many pages, though not uniformly.

Image dimensions ought also to be uniform, and in many cases, are.

Comments?

If there are no arguments, I will begin applying this to the profiles. It could always be modified later, anyway.

- White Knell

Additionally, would there be interest in adding sprite sheets (and related graphics) to Character pages? I would be more than happy to do all the work involving these (very little, truly, with the tools provided by S"), if there ''were'' interest.

- White Knell

:Hey, thanks for the images. They're great. But we should come up with a proper naming scheme. I have to go through and delete all the old versions now. Ugh. Ideally, the secondary "profile" image should be using a different expression than the first one. I think that would look nice. - [[User:J5983|J5983]] 15:25, 17 October 2005 (PDT)

Hm... I've been wondering - what's the use of the same pictures in "Main profile" and "Official profiles" section? Wouldn't it be better looking to place Alphes' and Auer's pics in "Main profile" section? Yeah, I know they are by far NOT any official pics, but anyone can look at official pictures at the "Official profiles" section, and "Main profile" part just would be kinda better-looking... After [[http://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Reimu_Hakurei&diff=36508&oldid=36507|the latest edit]], the image is SWR version. But the second latest edit has turned it to the SA version. I think we may as well revert it to the SA version. If the deep love for Alphes's picture keeps SWR Reimu's image next by the profile though ZUN releasing a new Touhou game, we must face her in SWR version with warm smile in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years from now! If only the beaty of image matters, the Alphes's image may always occupy that place in some years, owing to a personal preference of picture.

And what I've thought since quite before, this may be another problem, but quite many images infringe copyright. If only the beauty of image matters, we can ask a better drawer to admit our using his/her images on this Wiki. In fact, the biggest wiki of Touhou does so.

Aww, I figured someone would say so ^_^' But oh well, this doesn't matter as much. ==Pronounciation==

- Might be nice to have a pronunciation on some of the character names. I've never known if Cirno is "Sir-No" or "Ker-No," or if Keine is "Kee-N" or "Kai-N" or "Key-Nay." Could be useful to English doujinshi trying to make a pun, or just so I know what to mentally call them. It's unclear to me whether a strictly Japanese pronunciation of the names should be used or if it's sometimes suppose to be an English pronunciation, like with Alice. -[[User:Redpanda|Redpanda]]

:Well, Cirno is easy enough: Ci-Ru-No to follow the Hiragana and [http://youtube.com/watch?v=ifEDQZk_dj0 this]. Keine I'm not too sure on (personally I lean towards Ke-ee-ne), but I'll have it found out before long if somebody hasn't already answered it by then. Djinova actually started a thread about this on the old boards, and indeed those two were the most frequently mispronounced. :::::Personally, I dislike pronounciation instrucions in English - after all, this is what IPA is for. However, I don't see how there could be any problems when deciding the correct pronounciation for Keine, as it is a perfectly good Japanese name with a kanzi writing and all... ==Occupation, etc.==

The majority of characters, or at least a huge number of them, are listed as "occupation: unknown." Since so many character don't seem to have an actual job (like Flandre for example, who's only job is to sit there and be loli- I mean stay out of trouble) should at least the character who are known as being occupationless have theirs changed to read "occupation: none" ? Just seems like there's a lot of unknowns written all over so many character pages for that and other categories.

Also, since there are character pages for even nameless, profileless midbosses with no spell cards of their own *coughkoakumacough* and ''certain'' dolls named after places which aren't even proper characters in some senses, it might be interesting to see one large character page dedicated to all the scores upon scores of nameless fairies which have fallen before our heroines. They have different themes based on stages, often related to whoever the stage boss is, and just as much personal information as any of the other nameless characters. Plus some of them, like the fairies working at SDM, actually do have a lot of fun fact-worthy information both official and fan orginiated.
:They're not characters, though, so they wouldn't exactly fit in the character section. A character by definition needs an identity, and they have none - at least Shanghai, Hourai, Lily, etc. all have names. Daiyousei and Koakuma are exceptions to this rule, as they have unique sprites which therefore make them unique in the eyes of the fanbase, who subsequently found ways to name them (thus "big fairy" and "little devil".)-[[User:Edible|Edible]]

::A character like [[YuugenMagan]] also doesn't have much that the random fairies don't except a name and being one of a kind. Other than that its character is pretty much a blank slate. Koakuma at least has official comments about her personality from ZUN. But, since the hordes of fairies aren't actually proper characters on their own, maybe their rather sparse bestiary page needs to be expanded on instead since it only mentions fairies in folklore rather than in gameplay.
"Attacking humans is Youkai's job." - ''Rumia''

I kind of want to make the "occupation = Unknown" of certain youkai profiles to read something like "occupation = Attacking humans" but I'm not sure a good way to word it. I'd like to get every profile as complete as possible before yet more new characters get introduced, and this is just one step of that.
==Alternate spellings, etc==

In light of the brief discussion on [[Talk:Hong Meirin]], I'd like to add an Alternate Spellings section to the Character Info template, under the Name field. This is already done on the Wikipedia list and could be used to mention Hepburnisms (like Fujiwara no Mokou and Shikieiki Yamaxanadu), popular fan spellings (Frandoll), variations among games (like Tei Inaba), and the Perfect Memento weirdness (Medicin Merancory?)

I propose that the character pages be named according to ZUN's romanization (if any) on their first appearance in a game. Still leaves Meirin up in the air, but at least it's consistent. Resulting page name changes would be "Aya Syameimaru" and "Huziwara no Mokou", I believe, as well as "Reisen U Inaba" if we want to be pedantic.

I'm also going to add a 'Book Synthesis' section to the character pages summarizing the content of the official print media as pertains to them, but that one seems easy to roll back if people don't care for it, so I'll go ahead and start on it. -[[User:7HS|7HS]] 11:03, 24 May 2007 (PDT)
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Talk:Yuki-onna&diff=152482Talk:Yuki-onna2011-01-19T04:24:16Z
Umhyuk:

Sorry for irrelated topic with Touhou, but... [[http://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Yuki-onna&diff=93901&oldid=93900 This edit]] says like this: ''a Yuki-onna (雪女) is the Japanse word for snow woman. They are a spirit or a Youkai...'' Is this "they", so-called "[[Wikipedia: Singular they|singular they]]"? Beside the validity or propriety, I've never seen it in practice, so I've felt it interesting. --Masuo64 08:59, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
:No, it's plural. Although supposedly there's only one yuki onna, the article is referring to them as a type or youkai.
It's a little hard to explain the "singular they" concept as shown in wikipedia. In the case of "A person can't help their birth", it generalizes from the single person to all people. ''A dog can't help barking, it's their nature.'' is the same as ''A dog can't help barking, it's the nature of all dogs.'' It just looks better to write it the first way.
The other usage is to replace the gendered "he/she" with the genderless "they." ''A magician is interesting. They can perform amazing tricks.'' Since English doesn't have as wide a range of genderless pronouns as Japanese (anata, kimi, omae, yatsu, etc) and because of peculiarities in the language, the plural "they" is used. [[User:Oreng3|Oreng3]] 09:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
:: Hmm, I see. I think I've understood the concept of "singular they", and why I wondered if "they" might be singular was about 2 points. The former was "a Yuki-onna is... They ..." & the latter "They are a spirit...". On the quoted lines, the subject of the first sentence is singular although that of the second is plural. And about the second sentence, the subject is plural while the complement is singular... I assumed the inconsistency came from the technical usage of "they". But, yap, the plural are showing the number or the variety of yuki-onna's appearance, and the singular are telling us the entity is only one in fact, as you said above. Akyuu said at Youkai's article in PMiSS that there's many subcategories of youkai having only one entity. Probably my intuition mistook it. Anyway, thakx Oreng3!! --Masuo64 11:43, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Umhyukhttps://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Talk:Marisa_and_Alice/Translation/Story&diff=152481Talk:Marisa and Alice/Translation/Story2011-01-19T04:22:33Z
Umhyuk:

Cleaned up some stuff on the main page, but I'm no QC expert. Would be nice if someone else could double check it. A TC probably wouldn't hurt, which I can't do.

All scripts inserted as they are now, and brief testing with no problems.

And, some things I've noticed on the main page, but did not fix.

Onomatopoeia: When at the beginning of the sentence, it's sometimes capitalized (e.g. <nowiki>*Sigh*</nowiki>) and sometimes not (<nowiki>*sigh*</nowiki>). I'd assume this should be consistent.

Stars, tildes and music: These are placed after the punctuation, e.g. "But, I guess today turned out pretty well.♪". Personally I'd think that it would flow better to come before the punctuation, like "But, I guess today turned out pretty well♪.". Should I change this? There are also a few notes and stars I noticed in the Japanese script that are not in the English translation. Deliberately dropped or just an oversight?

Prologue: the line "(Why are there fallen stars here anyway?)". Was "stars" used instead of "☆" for any reason?

World 3: "to the victor goes the spoils.". The (English) expression is "To the victor belong the spoils", or "To the victor go the spoils" (Wikipedia has a redirect for the latter, but the article on the spoils system only mentions the former). I've never heard 'goes', but google says it's fairly popular as well. Change it?

World 3: "I said "Get lost!"". Reisen said "Beat it". Was there any reason for the change?

World 4: "Why don't you about this, Marisa?". You're missing something. "Why don't you (do something) about this, Marisa?", perhaps.

World 4: "the phantasmagoria of flower view". Shouldn't it be "Phantasmagoria of Flower View", with no 'the'?

World 6: Some of patchy's dialogue is still missing from the translation.

:愛と勇気と渇望の名の元に!!
:猛る嫉妬は紅蓮の炎!
:あんたなんて、あんたなんて…!

:死んじゃえバインダァァーッ!!!

This accompanies the lines

:……ちょっと魔が差したのよ。魔が。

:なんか仲良さげに帽子なんかかぶせちゃっ
:たりして何よそれなにかのあてつけ?
:製作者の偏愛?解せない解せない-
Which did get translated, and I'm guessing that's why you missed it.
:I just fixed some of the punctuation, capitalization, and grammar issues. Once the rest is done, I can try checking the translation (I've already noticed a few errors).

:I'm fine with either placement of "♪", although I slightly prefer putting it after the other punctuation. Do you know where it's usually been placed in other translations? --[[User:TheSinnerChrono|TheSinnerChrono]] 21:43, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

:To clarify: I prefer putting "♪" and "☆" after other punctuation, because they affect the tone of the overall text (or, at least, I interpret them that way). I prefer to put tildes before other punctuation, because they affect the length of specific words. --[[User:TheSinnerChrono|TheSinnerChrono]] 21:59, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Interestingly, most placements of the ♪ I found when searching for it were without punctuation. If the only punctuation that would appear with the note would be a period, it is dropped. On stage 2 of [[Mystic Square/Translation/Marisa's Scenario|this page]] there is a note following exclamation marks, so it would seem that the standard is to keep it after the punctuation. I don't know if the periods should be dropped, since that Japanese dialogue doesn't seem to have very many "。"'s, while this dialogue has it at (I think) every line that doesn't have some other punctuation.

And I see the "Netherworldly" was just added back. I believe you when you say らしい makes it an adverb, but that doesn't make sense with how it is in English. An adverb modifies an adjective, verb, or adverb, but it is clearly modifying the noun (sake). "Hmmmm... Netherworldly sake..."; there isn't even anything else in that sentence for it to modify but the noun!

[[User:Qazmlpok|Qazmlpok]] 22:48, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

:Japanese use of punctuation generally seems less strict than English. For example, a question might be ended with a period ("なんだ。曲者か。" = "Who are you calling a thief?"), and I've seen some games omit the period if it would come at the end of a paragraph. For now, at least, I'll just go ahead and add periods for the sake of consistency. (Even if it gets changed later, having it be consistent would help with find-and-replace.) --[[User:TheSinnerChrono|TheSinnerChrono]] 01:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Onomotopoeias: Sorry for not being consistent with them. I don't do everything at once so I forget how I did it from the previous session.

World 3: I just messed up the verb tense I guess. It should be 'go'. Also for Reisen's lines, I used a stronger command because she was having to repeat herself and I imagined she would be angrier having to do so. But I guess having her say it the same way twice is fine.

World 4: Yeah, that was a typo. Also, I didn't know if Marisa was directly referencing the game title or what, but I guess writing the title is OK.

World 6: I simply overlooked it. I'll get around to it soon.

Do we REALLY have to leave the puncuation verbatim?

And I was mistaken earlier, I meant adjective, not adverb. That's what I get for trying to translate while half-awake. Anyway, I think it should still be 'Netherworldly', because Marisa is using Netherworld as an adjective, rather than a possessive. I don't know why, I guess that's just her style.

[[User:NForza|NForza]] 01:26, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

-ly makes it an adverb. It needs to be an adjective; like "Japanese" from "Japan". I just asked and "Netherworldian" was suggested. How's that?

I don't know if punctuation should be exactly as it is in the original script. In some cases, e.g. "I-It's not like that?" - that's not a question. It shouldn't have a question mark.

[[User:Qazmlpok|Qazmlpok]] 02:21, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

'-ly' doesn't always make an adverb. How about 'manly' or 'girly'? Those are both adjectives. 'Netherworldian' sounds more awkward than 'Netherworldly' in my opinion.

Yeah, that's what I was saying about punctuation, but someone edited it back to more closely match the original, although I haven't seen any done incorrectly yet. I just thought it was a little picky.

:Sorry if I was being too strict with some of the punctuation, but I'm used to hearing things like "It's not like that?" in informal contexts. You start out by stating that the other person is wrong, but then you become unsure, and use the same tone as in a question. Using a question mark for that certainly has its problems, but I think it's at least closer to conveying the message than an exclamation mark, which doesn't indicate any doubt. --[[User:TheSinnerChrono|TheSinnerChrono]] 03:22, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

That one line didn't quite strike me as being a question; neither questioning someone else (obviously) nor questioning herself (your explanation). Of course I can't read the original Japanese to see what kind of tone is implied there, nor am I very good at recognizing tone in English anyways. I had assumed that the question mark in the Japanese was dropped because of some nuance of the language.

For Netherworldian, it would appear that was a joke, so you can just ignore that suggestion. "Netherworldly" still sounds like it should be an adverb... but at least regardless of what is chosen it's clear what part of speech it's supposed to be.

[[User:Qazmlpok|Qazmlpok]] 03:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

You can run quickly but you can't run Netherworldly. Or maybe you can. I think this is pretty new territory here.

As for that one line with the question mark, I think that was just a mistake on my part. Either I meant to phrase it as a question or it was a typo. The original line was probably phrased as a question anyway, but it doesn't matter that much as long as the point gets across.
Sorry, but my English is poor. So pls telle me where my 2 interpretations are weird. On [[http://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Cirno&diff=40225&oldid=40224 my last edit]], The first is:

While she is described as a weak boss in the Touhou series, if we consider the power of average fairies - who appear often '''as as''' regular enemies - we can certainly say she is exceptionally strong for her kind.

I've seen '''as as''' is odd, because the relative "who" is nominative & then "average fairies appear often as as regular enemies" seems gramatically bad to me. If this phrase is OK, I suppose single "as" is easier to make this sentence plain. "who appear often as regular enemies". Where is bad on my English? And the second is:

In Perfect Cherry Blossom, she returned to take revenge for her previous fight, but was only a mid-boss and easily defeated like '''one'''...

I've not caught what '''one''' indicates, so I thought this means that Player defeats Cirno as in the 1st stage of EoSD. But it seems bad. So, if there is any kind person, pls tell me. This request isn't only from my doubt that my edit isn't weird, but also from my hope that I want to make my English & this wiki better! --Masuo64 21:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

:'one' here is referring to 'mid-boss' so it has the same meaning as "but was only a mid-boss and easily defeated like a mid-boss". 'one' is used to avoid repetition of 'mid-boss'. The other correction was perfectly right, though. The last editor probably reverted your whole change without checking it. --[[User:Nietz|Nietz]] 02:33, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

:: Uh huh, the first is agreeable & 'one' in the second indicates "mid-boss". I understand! But I notice that a mid-boss should, of course, be taken down like, or similar to, a mid-boss. So I think "deserving one" might be better than "like one". Anyway, the scarlet mist over my mind is cleared now. Thanx, Nietz! --Masuo64 10:28, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
::I'm just looking for an excuse to get off that weird-sounding name of hers. It sounds weird in english, but in russian it is downward horrid thanks to few our words. :::I agree for your opinion that ZUN borrows the English word "chill", but I doubt that we should call her as "of frost". I think ZUN recommend direct "Cirno", because the spelling "Cirno" pretends to be an Italian word and becuse ordinary Japanese people, uninterested in English, don't know even the easy word "chill". == Age ==

Shouldn't Cirno's implied age be at least some multiple of 60 (rather than just at least 60) from her immediate recognition of the event in Phantasmagoria of Flower View? If she had only been around sixty years previous then she would have only seen one and not known how often it occurred or even that it regularly occurs every 60 years.
Hmm, thanx Pipokary & ArseneLupin3. Flandre's article in PMiSS says ''495年程、悪魔の妹をしています。'' "495nen hodo" means "to the extent of 495 years". It's used when we wanna say the lengh is rather short, but also when it is brief. Remilia's age is brief, so I think Flandre's age is brief, too. When the year is sure when Flandre was born, then the year isn't sure when Remilia was born because Remilia was about, or more than, 500 years old. When the 5 years is important between Remilia's & Flandre's age, the year isn't sure when Flandre was born, and it makes uncertain the year when Remilia was born. --Masuo64 06:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Stuff like "Ojou-sama" and "Onee-sama" are very common in Japanese stuff that's not Touhou, so that falls into a gray area. Ojou-sama is a common term for any character with an aura of regality surrounding them, and onee-sama is just "older sister" with more of a respectful connotation. Just my thoughts. ::Precisely, some Japanese people sometimes spell words in pseudo-historical style as a kind of Japanese jokes. For example, "mairimasefu" (Let's go, 参りませふ) & "ikaga nasahimashita ka?" (What's the matter?, 如何がなさひましたか?), which aren't correct as historical style of spelling of "mairimaseu" (参りませう) & "ikaga nasaimashita ka?" (如何なさいましたか?). These are mainly used for joke of imitating the stereotype of lady in Meiji or Taishou era. Not for men, somehow. So "Ozeu-sama" is also pseudo-historical spelling of "Ojau-sama" (correct historical spelling of "Ojou-sama"), which seems to show the utterer of it, i.e. Sakuya, is a lady with a traditional value — to show she's a gentle lady. Why Sakuya must be a gentle lady is... maybe coz they might associate it with a Japanese phrase "変態という名の紳士" (gentleman whose name is pervert). --[[:User:Masuo64|masuo64]] [[User Talk:Masuo64|Talk]] 06:32, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
On the page, the diagnosis of Patchouli's lung problem somewhat switches between Anemia and Asthma. This indecision intrigued me, and I've figured that, judging from evidence from the games and the appearance of her disorder in official and fan works, Patchouli seems to suffer from Anemia, not Asthma. For those who do not know the difference between the two, Anemia is a hemoglobin deficiency, which results in problem with having air flowing into and out of one's lungs, and excess blood loss, both of which explain her poor constitution; Asthma is just an inflammation or buildup of mucus in the airways of the lungs, and has no other severe or major effects. --[[User:ArseneLupin3|ArseneLupin3]] 23:11, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
In her [[Immaterial_and_Missing_Power:_Patchouli%27s_Scenario#Stage_2|IaMP dialogue]], in the current translation, Patchy says "divided in half twice or even thrice", the current misc fact says 3 or 4 (changed from 2 or 3), but wouldn't the math mean 2^2 (4) or 2^3 (8)? On the other hand, going by 2 or 3 split (2でも3でも割れる), it seems that 3 or 4 is correct... As a useless side note, 96 is divisible by 1,2,3,4,6,8,16,32,48, and 96. [[User:Oreng3|Oreng3]] 09:47, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

:to note, your list is missing 12 and 24. I believe the significance of 96 has something to do with being the largest whole number within 100 that bears the most denominators (6 of them). As an aside, all of the explanations you've provided apply accurately so its a matter of space and preference which to employ.

----
In the [[http://en.touhouwiki.net/index.php?title=Patchouli_Knowledge&oldid=41443|current version]], we find the sentence about the impression of Grand Library in Musoukakyou. But I think it's rather unproper to list that comment about a particular fanfic. It should have the very high quality affecting Touhou fans all over the world, but there's not a reason enough to list the sentense. --Masuo64 04:42, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
:Now that you mention it, you're quite right. I'll remove the sentence, as it's not official information. Furthermore, it would actually upset some other fans, as it could be considered as taking a fanime's information as official... something ZUN himself has stated would have a negative, or at least unfavorable, effect overall. --[[User:ArseneLupin3|ArseneLupin3]] 04:57, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

==Reason for adding "Witch" alongside "Magician"==

ZUN seems to be inconsistent as to whether to call her 「魔女」 (majo, or "magic woman" i. e. "witch"), which is a very gender-specific word, or 「魔法使い」 (mahou tukai, or "magic user"), which is gender-neutral. Except for Chireiden (Subterranean Animism), all official profiles state that her species is "majo." She is referred to twice as "majo" in Bohemian Archive, but five times as "mahou tukai" in Perfect Memento. Thus, both terms are used, although "majo" is more frequent. I think that it is therefore appropriate to mention both "magician" and the more gender-specific "witch."--[[Special:Contributions/192.5.109.49|192.5.109.49]] 19:41, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
== Correct Pronunciation? ==

Are we sure that it should really be "Pachurii~" and not "Patch-oo-lee"?

It's true this is how they would pronounce her name,but isn't it likely due to her name her orgins aren't japan? This would mean it would be a matter of it simply being pronounced wrong. The actual word "Patchouli" is pronounced with an l instead of an r based off the dictionary,r and l commonly being mistaken in japanese.
::Well,this is just thinking of Gensokyo...but...lets consider for the moment that Remmy,Flan,Patch,etc,are all European and NOT Japanese.Text is obviously made for the viewer to understand,but that may not accurately represent the person. So does that mean that the 3 have actually changed both their primary language ''and their pronounciation'',or do they speak their actual names natively and Reimu is left dumbfounded as to what they just said? I just have a hard time understanding the idea of a "correct pronunciation",on characters who seem to leave a lot of question as to how THEY would say it. It's like Flan and Fran,they're both right depending on who you ask.

::It's kinda like a suspension of disbelief,sure we may pronounce it as "Pachurii",but i don't understand why the actual Patchouli would pronounce her name "Patchurii" --[[Special:Contributions/74.105.35.173|74.105.35.173]] 03:01, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

::::Thats technically what i'm trying to say.There shouldn't really be a "correct" pronunciation,because they're all valid depending on who you talk to. Whether it be the Japanese pronunciation,an english one,or what have you.It's hard to pick a particular one due to the Scarlet house's orgins,and the fact it's disputable how they themselves would pronounce their own names. For now until a reason can be given,i'm going to omit that from the page. --[[Special:Contributions/74.105.35.173|74.105.35.173]] 22:03, October 28, 2010 (UTC)
So you'll have to undo your edit. If there is consent among editors then you can remove the section.
:::::My thoughts on this issue is that I'm against removing the whole section for some reasons: Her nickname section (where it mentions her being called 'Pache') should be kept, and instead of removing the 'pachurii' section you can add that 'patchouli' should be the correct pronunciation in the west. How's that? [[User:Deathsoul4|Deathsoul4]] 22:16, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

:::::Hm, let me elaborate. If both 'Pachurii' and 'Patchouli' are valid pronunciations, then both should be correct rather than just saying that there isn't a correct pronunciation (cuz, after all, they are both "correct", right?). So I'm thinking that keeping both pronunciations can work out. [[User:Deathsoul4|Deathsoul4]] 22:22, October 28, 2010 (UTC)]

::::::I believe you opposed to it's removal are missing the point.It's fine if it's an alternate pronunciation.The problem is that it calls it the "Correct" Pronunciation.To add even if it were to be changed to "a" pronunciation,it's in the fun facts section.I do not believe it should be in the section at all should it be changed,and i do not think it's correct to claim it as the one true pronunciation. However,i will undo the edit until we've decided on this. --[[User:Anon2057|Anon2057]] 22:49, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

::::::I will say that it's okay to say they're all correct,rather then say you can call patchouli anything.However that still just makes it 'a' pronunciation vs the correct one.it would be better if this were moved to the section that lists her pronunciations/names though. --[[User:Anon2057|Anon2057]] 22:55, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

:::::::Gotcha, I see that Suika Ibuki has a separate section devoted to explaining her name. How about making such name section for Patchouli as well? Then we can remove the name issue from her Fun Facts. Although it would be good if the nickname 'Pache' can stay in the fun facts, it has to do with the Japanese pronunciation, so I guess it'll have to go into the name section. [[User:Deathsoul4|Deathsoul4]] 03:54, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

::::::::Perhaps characters with well accepted nicknames should just have a nicknames section in the bio? if necessary you could just put a citation marker next to them to explain it. I'm not really sure how to handle a pronunciation section without making a blocks worth to explain it. Unlike Suika Patchouli runs into the issue of conflicting orgin (While ZUN himself would probably just pronounce her name in Japanese,her name and character are clearly European orgin.)

::::::::So the problem comes: Do we make a whole new block just to explain pronunciation? ==About me==

Hello~! I'm a big fan of Touhou, and I've been getting deeper and deeper into it since August of 2009. I happened across the Kero ⑨ Destiny flash on YouTube, and I fell in love with the song. That caused my initial interest in the game series.

Since then, I've tried my best to get my friends involved in this massive fanbase. Most of them were skeptical, but all of them liked found something to like about it as they went on. A few of them even managed to get a hold of the games, and I've been playing them as I get them.

Recently, I've found myself absolutely in love with Touhoumon. I use this Wiki's Touhoudex a lot for evolution levels, who evolves with what stone, etc, but a lot of the information is a little off. Thus, I would like to help update the Touhoudex to the best of my ability. If there's a specific thing I have to do, please let me know. I'm willing to help with that in any way, seeing as that's the game I know best at the moment.

Also, I noticed there's an external Touhoudex on the Touhoumon Wikia Page. I'd like to help with that eventually as well.

[[Project:Administrators|Administrators]] can '''protect''' and unprotect pages. Protection of a page or image usually means that a non-admin cannot modify it.

The majority of pages on this wiki should remain publicly editable, and '''not protected'''. Pages may, however, be temporarily or permanently protected for legal reasons (for example, license texts should not be changed) or in cases of extreme vandalism or edit warring.

==Uses==

*Protecting highly vandalised pages, such as the [[Main Page]] on large wikis.
*Maintaining the integrity of the site's logo and favicon.
*Maintaining the integrity of key [[Project:copyrights|copyright]] and license pages.
*Protecting the interface and system messages in the MediaWiki namespace (these are protected automatically)

A '''temporary''' protection is used for:
*Enforcing a "cool down" period to stop an "edit war", upon request.
*Protecting a page or image that has been a recent target of ''persistent'' vandalism or ''persistent'' edits by a banned user.

There is no need to protect personal .css and .js pages like user/monobook.css or user/cologneblue.js. Only the accounts associated with these pages (and admins) are able to edit them. (For more information on using these pages, see the [[Wikipedia:Help:User style|help page on Central]]

==Rules==
#Do not make the common mistake of protecting pages unnecessarily. For example, do not protect a page simply because it is the Main Page.
#Do not [[Help:Editing|edit]] a temporarily protected page except to add a notice explaining the page is protected.
#Do not protect a page you are involved in an edit dispute over. Admin powers are not editor privileges - admins should only act as servants to the user community at large.
#Avoid favoring one version of the article over another, unless one version is vandalism.
#Temporarily protected pages should not be left protected for very long.
#Talk pages and user talk pages are not protected except in extreme circumstances.
#The protection of a page on any particular version is not meant to express support for that version and requests should therefore not be made that the protected version be reverted to a different one.
== Momidan ==

Osu, thought I'd drop you a line. Thanks for the minor edits and fixes with regards to the main Momidan page and Other Games page.

Wanted to ask your opinion of something, since you show at least a bit of interest and also work and help a lot around the Wiki so you'd know best I imagine. The Japanese wiki for Momidan, their Spellcard Table has a column for advice, giving ups and downs about the effects of the Spellcards. I started to do something similar in my first write-up of the Strategy page, and came to some alternatives.
# Cover individual card strategy as an extra column on the Items page, and in-depth strategy for combinations or groups of cards as parts of the Strategy page.
# Cover individual card strategy as a table on the Strategy page, followed by in-depth strategy in bullet points or heading'd sections.
# Only cover individual card strategy for extremely useful cards on the Strategy page, and just not cover the less impressive cards.
Could be other options, but those three were the big ones for me. Let me know what you think.
[[User:St.Ninja|St.Ninja]] 19:04, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

: Ah, well, I've actually never played Momidan (nor any other roguelike, for that matter), so, I don't think I can really give an opinion on that. I'd suggest just going with whichever option seems best to you, and remember, you can always change your mind later. (Too bad [[User:Pentarou|Pentarou]] isn't around here anymore. He probably would've been more qualified to collaborate with you on any roguelikes.)
Anyway, good work so far! Just one thing to mention: Don't forget to put return links at the top and/or bottom of each page. Remember, for example, the user may not have gotten to [[Momidan/Items]] directly from [[Momizi and the Mysterious Cave]], and would therefore need an alternative to using their browser's "back" button to get to the main Momidan article. (Yeah, they could get there in two clicks via the category link at the bottom of the page, but one click is better than two, especially at slow-page-loading sites like Wikia.) --[[User:Winane|Winane]] 04:24, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

:: Sorry about the Return links, and thanks for handling the Momidan ones. I'll keep in mind adding them for future articles I work on. One more question, though. For pictures, do I just add the category of the game itself, such as Momidan? Or is there other categories necessary? I noticed you have been doing a lot of picture categorization, so as I approach the load of screenshots that will be added soon, I wanted to at least get the categories right. Thanks in advance! [[User:St.Ninja|St.Ninja]] 17:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

::: Here you go: [[:Category:Momidan Screenshots]]
::: In general, I figure all images should be within the [[:Category:Images|Images category]] or one of its subcategories, so I think it's best to create a category for "[game name] Screenshots" (and/or "[game name] Images", if not all the related images uploaded are in fact screenshots; ...or whatever), and categorizing that category as both "[game name]" and "Fangame Screenshots [or Images]" (assuming it's a fangame).
However, if there's only one screenshot for a given fangame, and no expectation that more will be added any time soon, I figure it'd be silly and inefficient to create a separate category with only that one image in it. So in cases like that, I'd just tag it as "[game name]" and "Fangame [Screenshots/Images]", such as I did with [[Touhou Angband]] and [[:File:Touhouangband.gif|its sole screenshot]].
But of course, this is all just my personal opinion, and an argument could be made for ignoring my previous two sentences, for the sake of consistency. --[[User:Winane|Winane]] 02:48, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi, Ren here. Sorry for poking my nose into your page, but in your last reply, you looked offended, so I must apologize and explain what I meant. Your English doesn't have anything to do with my friendly attitude - we slavics are just like that (and I like Japanese people, too). Besides, you're the FIRST JAPANESE PERSON I've ever talked to, so seeing you write in English was a bit of a shocker. As far as I know, it's difficult fo a Japanese man to learn English - the languages differ greatly. I'm a student, too - studying at a liguistics faculty in our city's university. So, please, don't take my words as an insult. And, to be perfectly honest, I'd like to become friends with you. I'm studying Japanese now, and I'd like to go to Japan in future, to live there.
And, if you're playing SWR, would you consider having a match or two with me sometimes? It's getting boring playing with three people constantly... ^_^'

:Hi! Sorry for me being late to reply. It's no need to apologise. I'm not offended. But it's certain that my English level isn't not high. I must face to the reality, and on the same time your slavic friendliness makes me happy. I hope you become a bridge to cross Nippon & Ukrajinu. Your request to play SWR with me, I would like to. But I've not still made Tenko's wish come true in easy mode. And my internet environment is cable connection. Perhaps we couldn't play well. I will beat Tenko-chan in normal mode & get better environment, so let's play with us after it! --Masuo64 09:29, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Whew! Man, you've scared me a bit... I was about beginning to think you just laughed and decided to ignore me. Thanks that you didn't! I'm releived.
Well, about being a bridge between Ukraine and Nihon - I'd really love to! We've got this Noryoku Shiken exam taking place in Kyev (our capital) once every year. Azami-sensei says that those who pass all 4 levels go studying for free in Japan for 1 year. My current goal is to pass that exam, so I'm concentrated on learning the language. And let me make a HUUUUUUGE compliment to you japanese people - I've never heard a language more beautiful. I usually compare it to water - it's mild, fluent and strong at the same time. And water's my favorite drink, substance and elemental - only one conclusion there is to make, right? ^_^'
Concerning SWR - I didn't quite get your point, the only thing that I understood is that for some reasons you can't play now. That's okay, I understand. When you'll be willing to play, or just to chat a bit (I, personally, got a TON of questions I'd like to ask you about your country, your people, your traditions - everything), write a small note to me here, or in my user talk, and I'll give you my ICQ number, so we can coordinate our actions in real-time.
Masuo, since you have been a great help with transcriptions, could I ask you for help in transcribing the chapters [[Curiosities_of_Lotus_Asia:_Chapter_10|10]] and [[Curiosities_of_Lotus_Asia:_Chapter_13|13]] of Curiosities of Lotus Asia? The available scans are not very clear, so I was having trouble with them, but I believe this won't be a problem for you. Yo, Renivall here. Hey, I understand this is a lame question, but who is the main guy here? I mean, admin of this wikia or something? I'd like to ask him a few questions and discuss a few things. [[User:Renivall Jeagerjacques|Renivall Jeagerjacques]] 08:18, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
:Hello Hello. The wanted people are them? [[Special:ListUsers/sysop|Sysop]] or [[Touhou Wiki:Administrators|Administrators]] What's the problem?
Greetings again. Last time I've asked about half a year ago, so... How's your SWR doing? How about a match or two? I've absolutely and totally ran out of opponents here in Russian region (not that I'm that good a player - no one simply plays SWR here... drats...), and I don't understand Japanese to enter any official tournament... == ひょいと監修します・・・ ==

I double-checked "hyoi to" at Jim Breen's WWWJDIC (which I'll admit is assembled by individuals just like a wiki, but has proven a good resource so far), and it defines as ひょいと "by chance; suddenly; accidentally; with agility". I guess their entry needs changing...?--[[User:Apcog|Apcog]] 01:18, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
:Hmm, I think "hyoi to" or "hyoi tto" represents "having an easy step with light feeling". Showing the index of WWWJDIC, ''"鳥は首をひょいと水に浸した。"'' is translated as "The bird dipped its head into the water". From my sense of Japanese language, "hyoi to" in this example indicates "doing quick or easy, light something" or "what the bird did was quick, it felt the action was hard to do, and owing to the easiness, it had no particular will to do so." By the way, I found the example of translating it as "light" in the 3rd meaning. Look at [[http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/%E3%81%B2%E3%82%87%E3%81%84%E3%81%A8 this page]. This engine has adopted Kenkyuusha's library, which is a little old but long-seller, useful for study in University, I think. This is my own opinion, "hyoi to" is used for "suddenly", of course, but "hyokkori to" is used more for its meaning. The most used meaning my link shows is "lightly" in the form of "hyoi tto". That is my own sense... Anyway, what I wanna tell you is the meaning of "by chance, suddenly" leads to "with the easy or light feeling for the agent to do the action with", i.e, "doing sth quickly or suddenly because of its easiness". --Masuo64 06:04, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
== Good Taste ==

Since the "umami" line in ケロ⑨destiny doesn't make much sense in Japanese anyway, why not allow a less literal translation?--[[User:Apcog|Apcog]] 19:35, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

:Why I altered it back; I intended to show that the line is odd even in original language. So I don't intend to say my fixing line is OK as it is. On that point, my edit was thoughtless, and I'm not pround in my English level. Could you mind fixing it up? If you not, please! Your cleanups have helped me many many times. I admire your degree of taking care to know the other's idea in editing. Thank you for asking. Do you say "as" must be set before noun because it is preposition? Or that "as" is inappropriate? Then "Cirno of good taste" or "Cirno as good tate" is better, I think. --Masuo64 02:31, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
::I didn't want to get into an edit war; I've seen too many of those cause unnecessary arguments on wikis. The best way to avoid it is simply to ask the other person politely why they're reverting an edit.
::Thank you for your compliments. I don't contribute nearly as much as you do, so I try to make up for it by polishing rough spots wherever and whenever I can. I'm not always skillful enough to determine the intended meaning behind a rough translation, but I try my best and ask questions when I'm uncertain.
::As for "Cirno as good taste", it simply doesn't make grammatical sense. I think a rough Japanese equivalent would be うまみとしてチルノ, which I don't think makes any sense either. However, "Cirno's good taste" and "the good taste of Cirno" DO make sense, even if they're just sentence fragments. I just modified them a bit to make a pun on "taste" (flavor vs. discretion) and to fit the rhythm a little better. If you don't mind, I'd like to revert to my last version.--[[User:Apcog|Apcog]] 08:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for editing my transcription and formatting for 愛のチルノ劇場. I'm still not very good at Japanese (especially at listening), so your help is very much appreciated. Do you have use any instant messenger programs like MSN or YIM? If so, would you be interested in chatting sometime? I regret having to dispute you, but based on the lyrics I see [http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6267986 here] and what I hear myself, I believe it's "ペットに", not "ペットが". I'm willing to believe I'm not hearing it correctly, but if I am, than so is the person who did the subtitles. Is that the case?--[[User:Apcog|Apcog]] 18:07, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
:Hmm, seeing your message, I repeated the music to find it's also heard as "ペットに". Umm, I'm rather hearing "ペットが". The consonants of those sounds are very similar. [ŋ] vs [n]. Of course, I sometimes do wrong, but such a fansubbed video also. For example, in the lyrics of the music, I can't hear "inki na rhythm ni..."

:Perhaps the storyline will help my interpretation:

:(1) If Satori says "somebody has made something terrible (to Orin)?" Satori would suspect the seducer like Kanako, who led Okuu to make the nuclear revolution. But Satori at least apologized in SA, "''……なるほど、私の猫が迷惑を掛けてしまったようね ''", when she met Reimu first. It's natural to scold her pet for her harming somebody rather than to suspect that there is the evil tempter is to blame and that her pet isn't bad. (Satori can't be a helicopter parent!) So do you think Satori should say "I wonder if my pet is doing something mad" than "I wonder if somebody has made my pet mad"?

:(2) After a while, Satori in the music said, "I see...that's definitely Orin' work." This shows that she suspected the criminal, Orin, first, not Orin's string puller, doesn't it? --Masuo64 21:35, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for moving the [[Lyrics:_全人類ノ非想天則]] page for me. It was late at night when I finished the page, and I'm not very familiar with some of the controls that Wikia uses. == On IN's title theme ==

You said to ask if there was a disagreement, so I will.

If the game's name is Touhou Eiyashou ~ Imperishable Night, and the title theme is Eiyashou ~ Eastern Night, and Eiyashou translates to Eternal Night Vignette, why is the song's name translated as Imperishable Night ~ Eastern Night instead of the literal Eternal Night Vignette ~ Eastern Night?
In fact, the list-by-songs page for IN points this out.--[[User:Selphos|Selphos]] 06:46, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
: We-, well, but excuse me, data of my edits are numerous, and my opinion about this or that has been changing, I believe. So I don't remember saying "to ask if there is a disagreement". Where have you seen?
: For my current opinion, it's because the element of title name corresponds to the name of title theme. In fact, Japanese people normally see the title as "Eiyashou" (the element as Japanese proper word of title). You can see it on most of Japanese touhou fansites for them to call it as "永夜抄" (Eiyashou) and "永" (abbreviation). Based on the idea, when they see the name of title theme in Music Room, they should think that the name of title theme is copied from that of the title. This must suggest that recycling of title name be more important than literal or rough translation. But... the latter has some validity, I think, and I regularly like it, though. --Masuo64 09:30, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
::Ah, my bad, I had intended to point out that it was edit 59771 where you said that: ''(Undo revision 59769 by 59.146.196.177 (talk) the name is the same as title. if you find my edit fault, use talk page.)''
::Anyway, I can see where you're coming from with that, and it makes sense, I personally just like the literal title translations. It doesn't help that there's an inconsistency on the wiki; see the name of PoFV's title theme, which is simply romanized as Kaiedzuka ~ Higan Retour, or LLS's, Gensokyo ~ Lotus Land Story, versus SoEW's, translated as Record of the Sealing of an Oriental Demon ~ Pure Land Mandala, or MS's, Wondrous Romance ~ Mystic Square. PCB as well falls into this second category. Though in LLS's defense, Gensokyo IS the name of the land...
::I apologize if I came off as rude, but I'd like confirmation on this matter.--[[User:Selphos|Selphos]] 23:47, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
There is not alot of people here who have japanese speaking skills. I'm learning a bit japanese very very slowly...like hardly. Anyways, just wanna say thank you for your contributions to the wikia. You've been a great help. If you're looking for more work, be sure to check out the categories "Unromanized" and "Untranslated" for lyrics and other stuff. But...you probably knew that...so sorry :X [[User:MaronaPossessed|MaronaPossessed]] 21:11, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
: Wow, I'm happy to see your comment, MaronaPossessed! Hmm, what I can say about learning foreign language is, yap, me too. I *am* also learning English, both how to use it & how to be along with people speaking it. Regarding difference of sorts of ones's speaking language as tendency of individual's talent, character, or persona, I'm not an expert, but only better at dealing with certain works than other people on this website; anybody has a field he/she can do his/her best, like sprinting or sewing, and for me it's transcription of Japanese, explation around Japanese groups & culture. But frankly speaking, I'm bloody bad at proper English, so I'd like to leave it to you all... lol

: And, I've been recently rather a little free time, so, concerning transcription of "Unromanized" or "Untranslated" ones, I'll be less active in this field at least until May 2011. I'm sorry if you're disappointed to see my reply. But I'm thinking touhou must be a good bridge to make Japanese & other people (of course including you) get together, make friends, so I'll do that works, while its speed is still so slow... --[[:User:Masuo64|masuo64]] [[User Talk:Masuo64|Talk]] 13:32, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
