Abyss Soul Lotus/Music

Abyss Soul Lotus contains 20 tracks composed by Tokini11. An additional 10 tracks are available in the OST DLC, consisting of the demo versions of the first 7 tracks, and 3 unused tracks.

Tokini11 gave additional commentary on the late game tracks (Stage 4 and onwards) when uploading them to his Bilibili channel. These comments are reproduced below in addition to the in-game Music Room comments.

想要给人一种听着曲子就感受到“天气真冷”的感觉。

今天的东方标题曲主旋律,也是面目全非尸骨无存了呢(误)。

Title Screen Theme

An uncharacteristically relaxed title theme.

I wanted to give people a feeling of "It's really cold" as soon as they hear this.

Nothing remains of the main Touhou theme of today (w).

Stage 1 theme
Icy Blossom, Icy Dream Icy Blossom, Icy Dream Tokini11

第一面的主题曲。

心目中的冰封的感觉。

乐器选取上,加入了一点类似冰晶和水晶叮咚碰撞的音色。

又用回音钢琴增强了一下空灵感。

果然提到冰和雪也就只能想到这些东西而已啊……

Stage 1 Theme

Has the feeling of a freeze.

On top of the selected instruments, I added tinkling sounds that are kind of like ice crystals and crystals.

And I also used an echo piano to strengthen the feeling of expansiveness and magic.

Of course, these were the only things I could think of when ice and snow were mentioned...

Stage 1 Boss - Shekle's theme
冰与雪的灵动 Cleverness of Ice and Snow Tokini11

雪珂的主题曲。

活泼,灵动,又有点蠢的雪妖精,大概和琪露诺比较像吧?

但是曲风完全不像嘛。(扶额)

给一面Boss这种杂鱼曲就用上了电吉他Solo的话,待遇会不会有点太优厚了啊哈哈哈。

Shekle's Theme

An ice fairy that's lively, clever, but a bit dumb, kind of like Cirno?

But the theme is completely different. *thinking*

Is it a bit too nice to give a Stage 1 Boss's small fry theme an electric guitar solo? lol

Stage 2 theme
悔恨凝结之路 The Road Where Remorse Condenses Tokini11

第二面的主题曲。

用吉他作为了宁静的开场。以后可就没机会这么安静了啊。

二面也是与主线有关的一面呢。

悔恨的话是不是应该拿小提琴渲染一下悲伤感啊,这么想着。

我终于会用小提琴了啊啊啊!(老泪纵横)(倒地)

Stage 2 Theme

I used guitar to have a calm and quiet introduction, after this I won't have a chance to be calm and quiet anymore.

Stage 2 is a stage relevant to the plot.

Speaking of remorse, shouldn't a bit of violin be used to colour in a sense of sorrow?

I finally can use violins now hahaha! (*tears streak down face*) (*falls down*)

Stage 2 Boss - Miyaka Yamika's theme
暗之花,吹来夜之香 The Flower of Shadow Brings the Fragrance of Night [1] Tokini11

暗华 美夜香的主题曲。

于激烈的战斗感中点缀着华丽和冷艳的曲子。

掺进了交响乐队的铙钹,好像还是蛮有意思的。

毕竟是来自地狱的使者,曲子也应该有点地狱的感觉了。

Miyaka Yamika's Theme

Within a feeling of intense battle is woven a beautiful, icy, and elegant song.

Adding some symphonic cymbals seems to be quite appropriate.

Since she is an emissary from Hell, the song should have a feeling of Hell as well.

Stage 3 theme
开不尽的雪莲华 Endlessly Blooming Snow Lotus Flowers[2] Tokini11

第三面的主题曲。

随心所欲地写了几段高速钢琴和跳音和弦,一下子就把曲风变得活泼起来了。活泼过后,也有高潮部分的旷阔与华丽。

顺便一提,高潮旋律的前两句和姜夔的《鬲溪梅令》可以完美契合,就像谱曲一样的契合度呢。

Stage 3 Theme

Since I did as I pleased and wrote several sections of fast piano and jumping chords, the mood of the track suddenly became lively. After the liveliness, there's also the vastness and beauty of the climax.

As an aside, the two phrases before the climax melody matches perfectly with Jiang Kui's "Gexi Meiling", as if it was composed to be like that.

Stage 3 Boss - Lepus Timidys Snowy's theme
雪兔的踪迹 ~ Nowhere but Everywhere Tracks of the Snow Hare ~ Nowhere but Everywhere Tokini11

莉帕斯·缇米蒂丝·白雪的主题曲。

活泼又狡黠,让人难以捉摸的雪兔贼。

——贼什么贼,幻想乡的事,能叫贼吗?

不过话说回来,请雪兔小姐马上来偷我家的东西吧。

那样就可以顺便抓回家养起来了!(不是)

Lepus Timidys Snowy's Theme

Lively yet cunning, a hard to grasp snow hare thief.

--thief? what thief? Considering Gensokyo, can she even be called a thief?

Anyways, Miss Snow Hare, please come steal my house's stuff right away.

So I can conveniently catch you and raise you as a pet! (jk)

Stage 4 theme
少女所见的深渊风景 The Scene of the Abyss the Girl Saw[3] Tokini11

第四面的主题曲

做出了争分夺秒、紧张地向着深渊疾行的感觉。

并且在其中加入了让人的耳膜与心脏一起跳动的太鼓。

但是,至于深渊到底是什么感觉,

我想我和自机都无暇考虑这个问题了。

Stage 4 Theme

I made a sensation of racing against time, anxiously hurrying towards the Abyss.

And in the process, I added taiko drum, making both one's eardrums and heart beat together.

But as for what the Abyss actually feels like,

I think neither I nor the player characters have the leisure to think about that.

The final result wasn't as ideal as I wished.

But later on I thought, "every work will always have a few so-so tracks as filler", so, yeah.

Some people might like it, but as the composer I'm not actually very satisfied with it.

Stage 4 Bosses - Yune Tobi and Shougetsu Sumizakura's Theme
空漠的黑与白 ~ Double Sickle of Death The Desolate Black and White ~ Double Sickle of Death Tokini11

荼靡 结音 & 墨樱 初月的主题曲

虽说是黑白无常,但是曲子却意外地十分活泼。

同时也加入了能够让曲子听起来更像后半程战斗的元素。

因为是双Boss所以做了左右声道切换,大概很爽。

啊——发挥的仍然还是中规中矩吧。

Yune Tobi and Shougetsu Sumizakura's Theme

Although they are the Heibai Wuchang[4], the track is surprisingly very lively.

At the same time I added some elements to the track so that it would sound like a lategame battle.

Because it's a double boss, I did some switching between the left and right channels. It's pretty nice.

Aahhh...the result's still pretty ordinary, huh.

以左右声道的两个乐器进行“问答”作为线索,完成了这首曲子;

至于为什么说中规中矩呢,大概是因为曲子本身除了双声道切换之外并没有什么太大的创新点,仍然是几年前最传统的11东方风个人风格,用简单的动次打次配上一些比较清亮的旋律

不过加进去的不少小细节倒是意外地很符合设定了?(

I completed this track using the idea of left-right channel "call and response" with two instruments.

As to why I said it was pretty ordinary, that's because the track didn't really do anything that creative besides having stereo panning, it's still the traditional 11 Touhou style from a few years back: a basic drum beat and some bright melody.

But a lot of the little details I added in are surprisingly matching for the character setting?

Little Black is mean and angry, and the Scythe of Death is even scarier.

Stage 5 theme
沉没八万由甸的叹息 Lamentations Submerging 80000 Yojana Tokini11

第五面的主题曲

拥有比四面道中更低沉的大鼓。或许是很沉重的曲子。

虽然旋律本身并没有沉重,但用了“沉重的”配器。

——其实也说不清到底是沉重还是……黏黏糊糊?

怎样都好,总之大鼓重重地敲下去就好了。

Stage 5 Theme

Has heavier drums than Stage 4. Overall quite a heavy track.

Even though the melody itself isn't heavy, but I used "heavy" instrumentation.

--Though I don't if it's really heavy, more like......languid?

Whatever it is, it's ok as long as the big drums are heavily struck.

这首曲子也是我个人比较满意的一首曲子,创作历程也比较曲折……

以相同的旋律做了一个初版,结果里面充斥着动次打次(终版曲子鼓点的两倍速……)和高速钢琴,完全就是一首很普通没有感情的曲子

后来,经过了一次大改,完全重写了鼓点,删除了高速钢琴,添加了水车的声音(没错是水车),修改了很多配器(尤其是把星莲船萨克斯给换成了双簧管……),并且让段落间的起伏和对比更强烈,才有了现在的曲子。

这次创作的经历,也是我逐渐从东方风中走出来的一个重要契机……漫无目的地随意堆砌东方风元素,或许在作曲中,并不是一个可取的方法。

好在最后的效果还是挺不错的?

This track I'm pretty satisfied with, though the process of composition was quite a winding path.

I made a first version with similar melody, but the result was full of drumbeats (twice the number of drum notes as the final version...) and frantic piano, it was a very ordinary and emotionless track.

Later on, I did a major revision, completely rewriting the drums, deleting the frantic piano, added the sound of a water wheel (yes, a water wheel), changed many instruments (in particular, I substituted the saxophone of Undefined Fantastic Object with an oboe), and additionally emphasized and contrasted the rise and fall and contrast of the different sections more, finally producing the current track.

This composition experience was an important inspiration for me to slowly branch out away from Touhou style...blindly piling Touhou-style elements without a goal is not a good method for composition.

Good thing is, the final effect was quite good?

Stage 5 Boss - Eteru Bankou's Theme
以太虚无论 Aether Nihilism Tokini11

万光 绘照的主题曲

由迈克尔逊—莫雷实验证实了以太不存在,并由此引出了相对论。

(后记:学了光学之后想打死这俩家伙)

——想继量子作曲法(误)之后尝试相对论作曲法。

失败了。果然爱因斯坦是伟人。

Eteru Bankou's Theme

The Michelson-Morley experiment proved that the aether didn't exist, and as a result gave rise to the theory of relativity.

(Afterword: After learning optics I want to beat up these two)

--I wanted to try a quantum composing method (hmm) and after that try a relativistic composing method.

I failed. Einstein's the great one after all.

后记4:我在雪莲华求闻中也提到了,这首曲子我预言会出现两极分化的评价,会有一些人很喜欢,也会有一些人很不喜欢;因为这首曲子的旋律和和弦走向的写作是十分大胆并且离谱的,我自己都不知道怎么写出来这么离谱的东西()如果能接受的,可能会觉得很帅很燃,如果不能接受的,可能会觉得刺耳?

后记5:大概是雪莲华里面最有战斗风格的一首曲子了(

Afterword 2: I wrote the Music Room comment when I was a sophomore in university and had just taken optics. Now I'm in my first year of grad school...

Afterword 3: Quantum composition method (?) refers to the wild composing style I used in the CD "Dissociated Cosmic Miracle", from the Dreams and Reality Higan Border Club[5]

Afterword 4: In the Histories I also mentioned, I expect reception of this track to be quite polarized, some will like it very much, and some will not like it at all. That's because this track's melody and chord structure were written in quite a daring and ridiculous manner. I don't even know how I composed something so ridiculous /s. If your ears accept it, it probably sounds stylish and hyped up. If not, it might sound a bit piercing to your ears?

溺于罪海之魂 Spiritual Soul Drowning in the Sea of Sin Tokini11

第六面的主题曲

空无一物的罪海,只有罪人的魂灵在喘息。

在作曲中首次使用了Dorian和弦。

并且用人声实录和声咏唱代替了原有的音源采样,合唱团水准。

录音设备是H***ei手机录音机。

Stage 6 Theme

The Sea of Sin is devoid of anything, only the sighs of the sinners' souls.

I used Dorian chords for the first time in composing.

And used real human choir harmony in place of my original samples. Choral-level stuff.

Recording equipment was a H***ei[6] cell phone's voice recorder.

不过,如果有比较铁杆的观众可能注意到,这首曲子的旋律在雪莲华发布之前就被我偷偷塞进了另一首原创曲里面(BV1g84y117Dj),并且其中的剧情也是暗指了雪莲华(

至于这个人声实录,当时是请合唱团的女高来录的,可惜我自己并没有什么像样的录音设备,并且也不会人声混音,就给加了个(阴暗的)(潮湿的)海嗣混响草草了事,听完直接加入大群

Why does the Music Room comment say it was my "first" use of Dorian chords?...that's because it was indeed the first time when I composed this track, it's just the track never came out until now lol.

But, if some of you diehard fans noticed, I actually secretly snuck the melody of this track into another one of my original tracks before Abyss Soul Lotus launched (BV1g84y117Dj), and the story there also referenced Abyss Soul Lotus briefly.

As for the real human recordings, I asked one of the sopranos from the choir to record for me. It was a shame that I didn't have any real recording equipment, and didn't know how to mix human voice, so I just added some "dark" and "damp" filters, mixed it together haphazardly, and just added it to the batch after a listen through.

Stage 6 Boss - Setsuka Myougenguu's Theme
不死之花 ~ Immortal Lotus Undying Flower ~ Immortal Lotus Tokini11

妙严宫 雪华的主题曲

最终战的紧张感、不可抗拒的忧郁感、

和时间终能改变一切的最后的大彻大悟,醍醐灌顶。

五味杂陈而又亘古不变,很多情感就是这样模糊却永恒。

Setsuka Myougenguu's Theme

The urgency of the last battle, an irresistible feeling of melancholy,

and the final realization that time can change everything. Enlightening.

Complex, exquisite yet also eternal and unchanging, often emotions are this sort of fuzzy yet eternal.

Humans can often discover many things when looking deep within their souls.

All-important Stage 6 boss track that went through many iterations, in the end settling with these two melodies as the core.

What does everyone think about this kind of final boss track?

"Cold", "vast", and "quiet" were some of the keywords I used when doing detail work on the track.

Anyways, I quite like the first melody, at least it's much richer than the 4-5-6 and 6-4-5-3 progressions in "The Lapis Lazuli Star's Wish".

结局画面的主题曲

尝试使用了上世纪80年代左右的流行音乐风格。

并且和曲名一起加入了在雪地行走的声音。

这类的乐器一旦节奏舒缓下来,

就能够给人一种放松身心的体验。我很喜欢。

Ending Theme

Tried using the style of pop music from about the 80's.

And, to go with the track title, added in the sound of walking in the snow.

These kinds of instruments, if you let the tempo come down,

gives one an experience of relaxing the body and mind. I really like it.

寒冬终将落幕,翘首盼望着春天的来临。

想要表达这样的一种感动,于是写了雪莲华唯一春天主题的曲子。

为了用乐曲调动起所有的本能与感官,采用了传统且有效的写法。

希望能作为一个华丽的收场。

Winter is finally over, and we look forward to the arrival of spring.

I wanted to express that sort of emotion, so I composed the only track in Abyss Soul Lotus with a theme of spring.

In order to bring out all the instincts and senses with this music, I used my traditional and effective composition method.

I hope it serves as a beautiful ending.

After continually making anxious, pressuring, and cold tracks for the last three stages of Abyss Soul Lotus, I finally can let myself go wild, and make a spring-themed track!

This track was incredibly simple, and the style I'm the best at: light, melodious, and inspiring. I hope everyone can get a bit of relaxation and emotional impact after this exciting and anxious game!

Also, as the video ending states, I will proceed to upload the Game Over track, Unused Tracks, and the final versions of the demo tracks.

After I upload them all, I will also upload them to NetEase Music, and publish the MIDI files to all tracks to aid in discussion and creative use (for business use, you must contact me privately).

I hope everyone continues to support my creations!

Extra Stage Theme

Extra面的主题曲

像是独自在城市的雨夜穿行一样。

在保持Extra关惯有的疾行感的同时加入了惆怅感。

但谁也没有想到的是曲子因此变得忧伤过度了。

如果独自一个人听上几遍的话,也许会感到无法言说的寂寥吧。

Extra Theme

Sounds like traveling through the city alone during a rainy night.

At the same I kept the traditional hurrying feeling of an Extra stage, I also added some melancholy.

But no one could've expected that as a result, the track became overly sad.

If you listen to it a few times alone, maybe you will feel an indescribable feeling of loneliness as well.

EX道中的曲子是雪莲华中,在完成作曲两年多之后的今天,我最满意的一首曲子。

它已经基本脱离了东方风,带着浓厚的个人风格;

同时,由于曲风和旋律的关系,也是一首怎么听都不会腻的曲子(各位要知道,这些曲子在发布之前我自己已经反复听了两三年了)……

正如Musicroom所说,雨夜城市中孤独地疾行,便是这首曲子的创作印象,与濒临破碎的大结界、幻想与现实的交界处的场景,也是比较符合的。

通过紧凑的鼓点和舒缓的钢琴旋律形成强烈对比,则是一种常见的编排方式,东方魔宝城的6面道中也用了这种手法;

「灵感至上主义的革新实验室」,我觉得这首曲子还是比较能体现这一点的。

Even today, two years after finishing the track, the extra stage track is the one I'm the most satisfied with in Abyss Soul Lotus.

It has essentially escaped Touhou style, and carries a rich filling of my own personal style.

At the same time, because of the style and melody, it's a track one won't get tired of listening to. (You have to know, I've already been listening to this track for 2-3 years before launch)...

As the Music Room comment states, the impression of this track is meant to be hurrying onwards alone in a rainy city at night. It fits quite well with the setting of the Great Barrier about to shatter, and a place where fantasy and reality blend together.

A strong contrast is made through tight drums and relaxed piano melody, this is a common way of arrangement. The stage 6 theme of "Book of Star Mythology" also uses this method.

I think this track demonstrates the spirit of "The Innovative Laboratory of Inspiration Above All" quite well.

Extra Boss - Seira Shokushin's Theme

在传统的Boss曲当中加入了更多的管弦乐成分与悲伤感。

最近也越来越能感受到交响乐的魅力了。

To a traditional boss track I added even more orchestral components and sorrowful feel.

比起一般的Boss曲子,星罗的这首曲子更多地关注于“叙事性”而非“战斗感”,

其中有很多的安静、抒情段落,因此可能战斗中没有那么“燃”……?

事实上,最开始星罗设定是有两首BGM的,一首注重战斗感,另一首就是这首,注重叙事性。

而那另一首曲子,收录在了雪莲华OST的DISC2中,为未使用曲:最后的阿修罗 ~ Forgotten Tears.

My best skill of melody.

Compared to the usual boss tracks, this track of Seira's is more focused on "storytelling" and not "battling".

It has many sections of calmness and lyricism, so it might not feel to "hype" during the battle...?

In actuality, Seira was meant to have two themes, one focused on the feeling of battle, and the other is this one, focusing on storytelling.

The other one is in DISC 2 of the Abyss Soul Lotus OST as an unused track: The Last Asura ~ Forgotten Tears.

参考了其他类型的游戏Boss战,做出了一首恢弘的终幕曲。

使用了很多方法来做旋律的变奏,不知道大家能听出多少呢。

将雪莲华的管乐风格延续到了最后,

铜管组在收尾时终于成为了主旋律乐器,可喜可贺(?)。

Drew inspiration from the boss battles of other types of games, and made a grand final scene track.

I used many different methods when changing melodies, how many can you hear?

I kept Abyss Soul Lotus' wind instrument style going through to the end,

the brass choir finally gets the melody in the end, congratulations (?).

The combination of guitar, taiko, bells, and brass make for a surprising sense of finality.

As everyone suspected, the track name is a reference to Shining Shooting Star's "A Flash of Light at the World's End".

Unused Tracks

There are three unused tracks in the OST DLC. Two are from cut content, and one is an older version of Setsuka's Last Spell Theme.

Final面的主题曲。

穹顶之上的风声与末世的哀伤混合在一起,再加上一点悠扬。
Dorian和弦在句末转到自然小调的结构听起来确实十分不错。
整首曲子像是在火车或者飞机上伴着轰鸣声听歌一样。
虽然会有杂音感,但有时也会感到很安心(雾)。

Final Stage Theme

The sound of wind on a domed roof, mixed with the grief of the apocalypse, with some melodiousness added in as well.
The structure of Dorian chords transitioning to natural minor at the end of the phrase sounds quite nice.
The whole track feels like you're listening to music with the rumble of a train or airplane in the background.
Although it might sound a bit noisy, it feels a bit calming too (or something).

未使用曲,雪莲华原计划中会在Extra面与Final面与星罗对战两次,于是也有了两套BGM。

其中,一套BGM较为注重战斗感,另一套BGM较为注重抒情感。

在最终的版本中,选用了疾走感、EX感更强的《被遗忘的无名者》作为EX道中;

与《被遗忘的无名者》的雨夜飞行相比,这首曲子则是 天台吹风;

用了一首较为抒情和悠扬的道中曲,来铺垫“终结”的到来。

Unused track. Abyss Soul Lotus was originally planned to have two fights with Seira in the Extra and Final stages, so there are two sets of tracks.

One was more focused on the sensation of a battle, the other was more lyrical.

In the final version, I selected "The Forgotten Nameless One" as the extra stage theme for its better hurrying, "Extra Stage" sensation.

In comparison to "The Forgotten Nameless One"'s sense of flying through the rainy night, this song is more like "Feeling the Wind on the Roof".

I used a more lyrical and melodious stage track to lay the groundwork of the coming of the End.

Seira Shokushin's Theme (2)[9]

确实,因为最终不灭之魂的Musicroom文本就是两首曲子拼起来的()

比起不灭之魂,这首曲子更是严格采用了不死之花的曲子段落结构,并且更有战斗感;

三段旋律使用了和不灭之魂相同的和弦。

雪莲华原计划与星罗进行两次战斗,其中这首为第一次战斗的曲子,强调战斗的激烈和压迫感;而不灭之魂作为第二次战斗的曲子,则多了一些无何奈何的宿命,一些英雄末路的悲情。

所以最终,Extra面使用的是第一战的道中曲+第二战的boss曲,余下的两首则作为未使用曲收录到DISC2中。

You might have noticed that the Music Room comment is a bit similar to Inextinguishable Spirit?

Indeed, that's because Inextinguishable Spirit's Music Room comment was made by combining the comments of two tracks.

In contrast to Inextinguishable Spirit, this track borrows the structure of Undying Flower more strictly, and has more feeling of a battle.

The melody of the third section uses the same chords as Inextinguishable Spirit.

Abyss Soul Lotus was originally planned to have two battles for Seira, and this was the track for the first fight, emphasizing the excitement and pressure of a battle. In contrast, Inextinguishable Spirit was the track for the second fight, and has more the melancholy of "unavoidable destiny" and "the end of the road for a hero".

So in the end, the Extra stage used the stage theme from the first battle, and the boss theme from the second battle. The two themes left behind were recorded in DISC2 as unused tracks.

  1. This is a reference to the boss's name, Miyaka (美夜香, "beautiful night fragrance") Yamika (暗华, "shadow flower")
  2. This is a parallel to Shining Shooting Star's stage 3 theme, The Kodama's Summer Night Festival. In both cases, the title of the track ends with the Chinese name of the game: "Summer Night Festival" and "Snow Lotus Flower".
