Regarding the Cancellation of “Bunbunharu Weekly”
Even though this was a weekly publication to which many devoted their precious time and precious paper to print, I unfortunately think that it will never hit the shelves.
In the beginning, the idea to create this publication came from Hatate Himekaidou’s articles. In response to the unchanging tengu newspapers, the viewpoints and ideologies of the Kakashi Spirit News were both innovative and progressive. I, feeling an impending sense of danger at that, used a weekly publication which had drifted in from the outside world to create a new style of article. What resulted was this “Bunbunharu Weekly.”
Recently I’ve been writing out articles in high spirits. But in contrast to those newspapers which place an emphasis on promptness in reporting, periodicals, with their many articles to read, have been hijacked by the spirit of “more exciting, more attractive.” Unfortunately, this means that they’ve become regarded for their bias toward including things which are objectively false.
“There are an infinite number of truths. Consolidate them into one and make an article.” That’s my motto. But the act of altering pictures, expressions, and the like to please the reader, all the while knowing that they’re not factual, just to make the article more exciting… I languished over the fact that this runs counter to the duties of a reporter.
However, the main reason for the cancellation of this publication occurred in the middle of an interview with Ms. Hecatia. It’s the fact that there’s a high chance this book was used by the Lunarians. Through the interview, I heard that, “There’s someone who embodies the ability to twist the truth,” which backed that idea up. As a result of an investigation based on this information, I was able to identify the Lunarian in question. I also learned that I had already come into contact with them. In other words, as Ms. Hecatia said, since there was a high chance that this publication was used to produce billboards of convenient truths for the Lunarians, I decided to cancel it.
The name of that Lunarian is Sagume Kishin. I wasn’t able to learn much more than that, but it’s easy to imagine that she has some relation to the Urban Legend Incident. Why? Because the Urban Legend Incident was an occurrence in which non-existent urban myths came to life. That matches up with the power I was told about in the interview earlier. Although it seems simply to be the kind of power where “gossip becomes reality,” the essence of this incident wasn’t so. Many people became the embodiments of urban legends, or rather “they came to life because those stories were known to be fictional.” It’s a well-known fact that this incident isn’t sorted out, but there’s a high chance that my “Bunbunharu News,” as a result of its contents being regarded with an air of falsity and bias, and including some exaggerated parts, will become real. Perhaps the reason that I, with my strong sense of justice, wrote such falsified articles was also because of some sort of Lunarian power. That’s definitely it. There’s no mistaking it.
I think I’m going to conduct a follow-up investigation with the Lunarian, Sagume Kishin. Nevertheless, I want to commit to remaining prudent and extremely cautious. A few falsehoods and biases are still permissible, but it’s hard to forgive their use by the Lunarians. “The Lunarians view Gensokyo as their enemy.” This is also from Ms. Hecatia’s interview and article. An unfortunate result of exaggerated articles yammering loudly about the continued existence and conservation of Gensokyo, was their use by the Lunarians. A situation in which Gensokyo is exposed to danger is no joke.
For these reasons, it was with overwhelming grief that I cancelled the first issue of “Bunbunharu News.” I’d like to apologize to the many of you who offered your kind cooperation on manga, stories, columns, etc. I’d like to go to great efforts to prepare the follow-up issue of this serialization.
PS – I feel, with the way things went back then, that I seem like the real criminal. But what do you think?

Agatha Chris Q Er… Ms. Hieda no Akyuu [1]

Notes

  1. Aya first mentions the actual illustrator but then corrects herself because the "in-universe" illustrator would have been Akyuu.
