Divine Beast

Divine beasts are animals with ties to the gods, thus not necessitating belief to maintain existence, unlike animal youkai. They are not mutually exclusive, however, as ZUN has classified certain characters as youkai despite the divinity of their existence. While not a proper term used in mythology and Touhou, divine beasts are distinct enough of a classification to warrant mention.
