Notes

  1. refers to both flowers and China. The spell card's name, pronounced "Houka Kenran", is pun on the expression "gouka kenran" (豪華絢爛, luxurious and gorgeous).
  2. Selaginella: an evergreen moss-like plant. This spell card's name is a reference to the manga "Selaginella 9" by artist Missile Kakurai (加倉井ミサイル).
  3. The name may also be a meta-joke given that this spell card is the ninth spell card in the game.
  4. In Chinese, 虹 (hong) can also refer to a type of dragon. Meiling has the kanji for dragon (龍) written on the star on her hat.
  5. 夢葛 (yumekazura) is a medicinal herb referenced in the rakugo story 葛根湯医者 (Kakkonto Doctor). Kakkonto is a traditional Japanese medicine that is made with the kudzu (葛 kuzu) plant.
  6. The look of the danmaku in the spell card may be inspired by the real life 青葛 (aotsuzura) plant (also known as Cocculus trilobus) that has small, blue fruiting bodies. These plants are also used in medicine.
  7. 彩雨 is a poetic term used to describe rain that is pouring on flowers.
