Notes

  1. Meek: could refer to the name of a knife made by MOKI (a Japanese knife maker), as well as the behavior of an "obedient" maid like Sakuya.
  2. The Star of David is a six-pointed star (hexagram) and a widely-used symbol of Judaism. Its use in Judaism originates in 14th-century depictions of the Seal of Solomon, which is a hexagram commonly associated with magic circles, alchemy and demon summoning.
  3. 冥界 (Meikai, lit. "dark world") can refer to a wide variety of underworlds and afterlife realms from various religions, such as Yomi in Shinto, Higan or Narakas in Buddhism, and so on. This ties into the general concept of vampires as undead or demonic beings, as does the Hard/Lunatic version of this card (see below).
(Though the Touhou series has its own Netherworld, it is not directly based on any particular mythology and is predated by this card.)
  4. Vlad Ţepeș Dracula: a Romanian prince and inspiration for the fictional vampire, Dracula. Also referenced by the title of the Stage 6 theme, "The Young Descendant of Tepes".
  5. This spell's name could be a reference to the English title of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (which would be rendered as "ドラキュラの呪い" in Japanese).
  6. Possible pun? シュート (shuuto) is pronounced similarly to 酒徒 (shuto, "drinking buddies").
  7. A reference to the OS "Red Magic" from the novel Everything Becomes F: The Perfect Insider. For more info see Sakuya's spell cards.
  8. Refers to Remilia's status as the mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, as well as the common depiction of vampires as high-ranking undead that can command lesser demons. As with the Normal version of this card, it may also tie in with the hexagram seal of King Solomon, said to have given him the power to commune with devils.
  9. Impalement on mountains of sharp spikes is included among the many punishments in Buddhist Hells. These mountains of spikes are used as a general symbol of Hell in Japanese culture. Additionally, Vlad Tepes was known to have executed many of his political and religious enemies via exceedingly cruel methods; his favorite method was impalement, earning him the title "Vlad the Impaler".
  10. 吸血鬼幻想: a reference to Suehiro Tanemura's book of the same name.
  11. Meister: German for "master".
  12. References the main incident of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, where Remilia covered Gensokyo in scarlet mist that blocked the sun.
