Fandom/Highly Responsive to Prayers

This sub-article lists fandom content associated to characters, locations or other stuff that originally appeared in the first PC-98 game Highly Responsive to Prayers.

SinGyoku

  • SinGyoku's third form is highly treated as a male, where it's seldom to see him shown as a female in artwork. Its second form is also shown highly as a female.

Makai

  • Regardless if no characters were shown to be from Makai in Undefined Fantastic Object, PC-98 characters are still shown to live here in connexion with the Windows canon. It's often shown that the Windows Alice Margatroid "re-visits" here as though it's her former home. Louise is sometimes shown to travel to modern-day Gensokyo, and Shinki also known to take visits to Gensokyo amongst fanworks, sometimes as a representative of Makai.
  • Byakuren Hijiri and Shinki are often depicted in fandom has having a relationship or acquaintance with each other, sometimes because of the same location and that fandom suggests that Shinki taught Byakuren some of her attacks like this spell card. The resemblance between Byakuren's and Shinki's danmaku could be explained by Shinki teaching her the pattern while she was in Makai.
  • Koakuma is sometimes said to be originally from Makai due to being a devil.
  • Due to the inconsistencies that surrounds Makai, some would speculate that there might actually be more than one Makai to explain why there appears to be inconsistencies. One example is that Shinki does not reference the events of Highly Responsive to Prayers in Mystic Square when talking to Reimu Hakurei. Another is the difference between the PC-98 and Windows.

YuugenMagan

YuugenMagan's appearance by the fanbase is rather seldom due to being a PC-98 character; it appears that its rare for YuugenMagan to appear in fangames. Its mostly drawn in fanart with other characters of Highly Responsive to Prayers and Makai. However, despite YuugenMagan's gender to be unknown, it's highly treated to be a female because of the figure in the center, and the fact that most characters in the Touhou Project are female. In addition to this, YuugenMagan has been drawn as a human-like character in some fanart, mainly being depicted in pure gold or constructed from electricity.

Elis

Sariel

  • For some reason in the western fanbase, Sariel is sometimes shown to be with Rinnosuke Morichika.

Mima

Mima has proved that even if she's a PC-98 character, she is still very notable by a large number of fans and has a fair number of fanart and fan videos amongst current characters today. Along with Shinki, she is one of the most desired PC-98 characters to return in a Windows game.

Windows appearances and indirect connexions

Before its release, Subterranean Animism was speculated to have Mima's return as one of the bosses. It disappointed many fans that she did not appear in the game. After this, Ten Desires was again more widely speculated to feature Mima's return thanks to the heavy spirit/ghost themes, as well as references in the prologue to the resurrection of a person who sought revenge. Some fans joked that "resurrection" should instead have said "reincarnation". It sadly disappointed many fans that she, again, did not appear in the game. This happened yet again in Foul Detective Satori, where the Jailbreak King was speculated to be Mima due to being a vengeful spirit with a grudge against Hakurei Shrine, only for it to be eventually revealed that it was an entirely new character. With this (particularly in the Western fanbase), it's become a running gag to always speculate that Mima, often humorously, will appear in the next Touhou game, regardless of its theme or references.

Twilight Spark

Notably in Touhou Soccer Moushuuden, Mima was given the spell 'Twilight Spark', which is a far larger and more powerful version of the Master Spark used by Marisa Kirisame and Yuuka Kazami (to the point where it can be seen from space). This has become a popular meme, sometimes called the 'Mother of All Sparks' by western fans. It's popularity also led to some people mistakenly think of it as actually being used by her in canon.

Close relation with Marisa

There is a fan theory that Mima is the one that taught Marisa how to use magic. This is mainly because during Marisa's first appearance in Story of Eastern Wonderland, Marisa tries to protect Mima who she calls "Mima-sama", and when Mima defeats Marisa during Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream she scolds Marisa to train harder. It is also worth noting that every attack Marisa used in her first appearance, Mima could use as well (final boss fight of Story of Eastern Wonderland) with variations. To add to this, there's another fan theory that Mima is Marisa's mother. This is based on the story text accompanying track 10 ("Reincarnation", Mima's theme from Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream) of the music CD Dolls in Pseudo Paradise.

Miscellaneous
  • Hakurei resident: She is occasionally depicted in fanart or doujinshi as having taken up residence at the Hakurei Shrine, similar to Suika Ibuki.
  • Shrimp tempura: Some people think that Mima's ghostly tail in Touhou 1-3 resembles a piece of shrimp tempura. As such, she is occasionally depicted with it in fanart.
  • Another two tail: Mima is often compared to Soga no Tojiko due to the ghost tail they both have.

Kikuri

  • Some fans tend to think of her as a maiden that was long ago sealed into the bronze disk.

Konngara

Oni?

Konngara is often depicted to be an oni because of the horn on their head. There is even a fan theory that Konngara could very well be one of the Big Four of the Mountain, but the canonicity between the PC-98 and Windows comes into play. Because of this, they are sometimes paired with Suika Ibuki, Yuugi Hoshiguma, and/or Kasen Ibaraki. An alternate theory claims that the "horn" on their head is actually a metal spike stuck in it, based on how it appears to have a drop of blood dripping from it.

Miscellaneous
  • Some artwork presents Konngara as male, or as an attendant of a deity.
  • Some western fans tend to call Konngara "Astral Knight Konngara", which makes sense since Konngara's title is "Astral Knight".
