If you were a fan of fromadistance's debut album [[eureka]] released last year at Comiket 77, you have much to celebrate about. historie is an improvement on it in every possible possible way. spctrm keeps the traditional stylings of Japanese folk and experiments with busier soundscapes, fusing lively melodic instrumentation with ambient, resulting in calming music that also carries an anxious air. Fans of the previous album will immediately fall head over heels for fable, in saecula saeculorum, otogi, worshipper and obscure. Kandachi is the most out of place track on this release. When I first heard it, I was like "holy crap this sounds like Emeralds". Out of all ten tracks, farce best represents fromadistance's musical step between the eight and a half months: Celtic old-fashioned music with a modern-day twist and a tense mood.
If you like quieter, more traditional arrangements and their C77 release, you will find a number of arresting tracks. If you like unusual arrangement works, this is essential listening.
Those who liked and man got means E.P. and felt betrayed by eureka's change from original ambient techno and breakbeat track to Touhou folk will probably like this better but it probably won't win them back. If you are a fan of harder, fast paced, or poppier music, this might not be for you, or perhaps it will be a good start if you are considering exploring outside your comfort zone.

If you were a fan of fromadistance's debut album eureka released last year at Comiket 77, you have much to celebrate about. historie is an improvement on it in every possible possible way. spctrm keeps the traditional stylings of Japanese folk and experiments with busier soundscapes, fusing lively melodic instrumentation with ambient, resulting in calming music that also carries an anxious air.
