Official Webpage & Manual

Recurring disasters and the fear of a looming unstoppable catastrophe:

these things have brought a dark atmosphere to the Human Village.

A gloomy atmosphere swirls about the village.

But it's not a feeling of despair.
It was more like a feeling of being trapped—that humanity's future would not change regardless of its actions.

"Ain't it all right?"[1]

No one remembered speaking it, but this voice still made itself heard:

"That's right, if nothing is going to change, shouldn't we just do whatever we want?
That's right, we should just live in the moment."
Gradually the hearts of the humans in the village became liberated, and with that they fell into disorder.

There are those who view the scene from a different perspective: the religious leaders.

They thought that they should seize control of the human hearts that fell into disorder.
It was a great opportunity: when restoring order, they would naturally be able to gather faith.

The monk who has built a temple in Gensokyo, the Taoist who abandoned the material world and aims for immortality,

and the shrine maiden who seeks reinstatement.
All of the girls have decided for sure, at this time, "It's my turn."

Now, with your beliefs as your weapons, battle with appeal and fight for your popularity!

  1. Eejyanaika (ええじゃないか) is simply a way to say "why not?"/"isn't it okay?" in Japanese, however this term is usually used to refer to the historical communal activities which occurred in many places of Japan in between Edo and Meiji era, and the game is apparently referencing the content of this event too as both historically and in game there exists events which are often religious celebrations or dances as a form of protest.
