Notes
- ↑ A slight variation on the phrase "If the cuckoo does not sing, wait for it to do so" (鳴かぬなら鳴くまで待とう時鳥 nakanu nara, naku made matou, hototogisu) (reference link ) The phrase is a concise expression of the character of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the final winner of the Warring States Period. The original uses "鳴く" ("to cry out", or "to sing" for birds in particular) both times, while the spell name uses "泣く" (to cry tears) the second time. Apart from this phrase, Ieyasu was often called "Old Tanuki Man" (狸親父 tanuki oyaji), as he was famous for using dirty tactics and cheating to survive the era.
- ↑ Likely a reference to the well-known (and oft-parodied) children's song "Ningen tte ii na" ("Humans are nice"), the ending song of a long-hit TV anime series "Manga Nihon Old Story".
- ↑ A reference to the legend of Issun-boushi, at one point in which the dimunitive hero stabbed an oni in the eyes with a sewing needle.
