Notes
- ↑ A slight variation on the short but precise phrase expressing the character of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the final winner of Warring State Period — "If the cuckoo does not sing, wait for it doing it" (鳴かぬなら鳴くまで待とう時鳥 nakanu nara, naku made matou, hototogisu). The idiom uses "鳴く" (to cry out / especially for bird "to sing") both times, while the spell name uses "泣く" (to cry tears) the second time. Beside the meaning of the phrase, Ieyasu was often called "Tanuki Old Man" (狸親父 tanuki oyaji), because he was famous for surviving that era to play cheat, dirty tactics.
- ↑ Likely a reference to the well-known (and oft-parodied) children's song "Ningen tte ii na" ("Humans are nice"), the ending song of a long-hit TV anime series "Manga Nihon Old Story".
- ↑ A reference to the legend of Issun-boushi, at one point in which the dimunitive hero stabbed an oni in the eyes with a sewing needle.
