All innate spellcards increase in damage/healing by 5% per skill level, max at skill level 5 (unless noted otherwise), and cost 5 points to level (or 25 for Awakened spell cards). Damage formulas on the page are calculated for an S.lv of 1. Skills that are described to increase base stats actually increases growth rate by 0.1x of the stated amount.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 1F: Momiji is blocking the way to advance to the rest of 1F. Talk to her and she will join. She is required to beat the game.
Play Notes Momiji is your first real tank character. Her combination of good HP and great Defense, plus solid Physical affinity, will let her take hits better than any of your early characters, and good Speed makes sure she can efficiently switch your party around as well. In spite of impressive physical toughness, Momiji tends to go ignored as a tank later in the game because she lacks any real niche; she simply doesn't have the special tricks that other tanks will bring to the table. Offensively, she has two decent spell cards to work with, and, as you take on other tanks, she can segue well into being a very bulky attacker instead; all she needs is to subclass for a slightly larger set of attacks and she's ready to go.

Her skills are largely offensive, and can aid her quite well in attacking. Instant Attack and Accelerate in particular stand out for greatly boosting the amount of damage she can do over time. For defensive purposes though, she has little going for her, so you're better off turning your attention into stat upgrading and subclass skills. Of note is her ability to greatly increase the front row's accuracy, which can become a very powerful supportive tool against very evasive enemies.

Awakened Skills
Skills
Name Max Lvl Cost Description
White Wolf's Sword and Shield 8 16 When the user attacks an enemy with a normal Attack or a spellcard, buff user's ATK by (SLv * 3)%. When the user Concentrates or uses Formation Change, buff user's DEF and MND by (SLv * 3)%.
Youkai Mountain Alliance? 2 25 When at least 1 of Aya, Momiji, Nitori and Hina are in front, the user's all stats (including ACC and EVA) are increased by (SLv * 7)% for each member in front excluding herself. This can only take effect if at least one ally or enemy has acted in battle.
Encounter with a Strong Foe 1 10 If the user does not defeat an enemy after attacking it, give a 7% buff to all of the user's stats (Bug: works even when the user doesn't attack the enemy, such as with Auxiliary spells or Concentrating, though it doesn't work with Form Change)
Comments
Momiji's awakened skills gives her more chances to increase her stats. White Wolf's Sword and Shield lets her obtain a fairly large buff passively depending on her actions, while Encounter with a Strong Foe adds another 7% all stat buff when she attacks. With these, she can easily maintain a 100% Attack buff with no upkeep. Youkai Mountain Alliance? can also give her a fair amount of buff-independent stat increase, and her synergy partners are all fairly survivable.

Notably, with all her self-buffs and lack of attack variety, Momiji makes the perfect Swordmaster, gaining useful attacks for all elements but DRK, SPI, and MYS at once; and if necessary, DRK and SPI can be accessed from Ninja or the special subclasses.

On the other hand, Momiji still completely lacks any form of direct damage increase even after awakening, nor are her spellcards particularly strong; compared to the damage many other characters can deal this late in the game, Momiji actually becomes rather dull. Her selling point is her bulk, but DEF/MND gradually go out of vogue and other bulky attackers such as Kasen, Mokou, Meiling or Futo boast large damage reduction skills; whilst Suika can copy her ACC boost gimmick but better. Unfortunately, as you obtain awakenings Momiji should probably be phased out of the party.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 1F: Talk to Youmu first then find Cirno to retrieve the Hakurouken. Return and defeat Youmu as a boss. She joins your party afterwards. She is required to beat the game.
Play Notes Youmu is a durable physical attacker held back by her tiny MP pool, expensive spells, and merely average offensive ability. She has three elements to choose from and both single-target and multi-target attacks, and can put more skill points in them than most other characters; but any of her stronger spells will instantly deplete her MP supply, and you cannot benefit from higher max spell levels until rather far into the game. To counteract this she has a good base MP recovery rate which can be increased further via Mental Concentration and equipment so she can spend more of her time on offense.

Her skills are mostly defensive: Regeneration Ability and Desperation can aid greatly in survival, and Meikyo Shisui lets her get a small buff every turn as long as she's just switching characters around. The combination of these skills allows Youmu to perform well as a tank early on and in a few specific fights, but her lopsided defenses and lack of support makes her fall off rather quickly.

Offensively, Sword Spirit requires Regeneration Ability and/or a healer to grant its bonus consistently, but it works like a weaker Great Incantation that also stacks with boosting skills like Herb of Awakening and plays well with Youmu's focus/attack scheme. Unfortunately, its damage boost is fairly small for the turn it takes and HP restriction, leaving it still significantly weaker than just attacking every turn even after stacking Boost; in the end, Youmu simply struggles to come out ahead against other attackers.

Awakened Skills
Skills
Name Max Lvl Cost Description
Asura's Blood 1 75 The user receives a damage bonus depending on her current HP %. The bonus increases as her HP decreases, to a maximum of 110%. (bonus is 10% when at or above max HP, and then increases per each % of lost HP)
As the Silent Nirvana 3 50 When the user receives fatal damage while having the "Sword Spirit" buff, there's a (SLv * 33)% chance to remove it and reduce the user's TP by 10 to survive with 1 HP.
Mistress & Servant 2 25 If Youmu and Yuyuko are in the party of 12, increase the user's all stats (including ACC and EVA) by (SLv * 10)%.
Comments
Youmu obtains two skills that work great in tandem - As the Silent Nirvana allows her to use Sword Spirit in a different way, enduring any attacks with 1 HP, then deliver an attack with 110% damage bonus thanks to Asura's Blood, plus the bonus from Desperation and likely Meikyo Shisui behind it; along with giving Youmu quite the durability boost via a 99% chance to avoid death. Although it is a risky strategy, it can create quite a high level of damage that, unlike Sword Spirit itself, doesn't require Youmu to Concentrate every time before using a move. Mistress & Servant also gives her a synergy-like skill; unlike most other synergy skills, it doesn't require her partner to be in the front lines, which makes it more flexible to use.

Unlike other characters, she can completely forgo defensive gear to stack as much offense as possible since she can rely on As the Silent Nirvana to survive; or in the very endgame when equipment Attack bonuses are scaling down, she can stack Evasion to make it far easier to keep her alive; either way she's a top class addition to the party.

As for subclassing, Gambler grants her utterly explosive damage, but also terrifying MP costs; Murakumo will give her better MP flow, but its damage boost may be too costly for your front line to maintain, and the passive healing will also go unused, leaving it likely better suited to other characters. She may be best suited to Warrior just to obtain a FIR elemental attack and passive ATK buffs, given she gets little benefit from defensive boosts other classes offer, and no class has significantly more helpful moveset expansions.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 1F: Find Kogasa at southwestern of the floor. Defeat the Malignuts Eater, return to Gensokyo and visit Nitori's Workshop to repair her umbrella (requires 120 gold, a Great Tree's Leaf and an Insect's Exoskeleton), then return to her event tile to recruit.
Play Notes Kogasa is a somewhat gimmicky physical attacker with a focus on status effects, particularly Terror, which forms the basis of several of her personal skills. Her stats are balanced and somewhat low, which is offset by her relatively fast leveling rate. She also has a decent number of elements to work with; Dark and Cold are effective on several of the midgame floors and thus she may see some good use there. She is mainly held back by the fact that Terror isn't terrifically useful on enemies, only reducing their stats slightly.

For her skills, Troubled Forgotten Item really defines her combat role by providing a sizable self-buff and some MP recovery whenever she attacks enemies affected by Terror, and thus should be obtained ASAP. Ability to Surprise Humans and Sheer Force help her set the Terror ailment while Easygoing and Heart of Perseverance can be useful if you're setting her up to have some staying power (by default she is quite fragile), but otherwise her stats and spell cards should take priority afterwards. Plus Disk gives her a choice in boosting either her offense or defense against Terror inflicted foes; both effects are quite significant, and although they are expensive to obtain, should be obtained around midgame as well.

In Plus Disk her MP recovery is changed to 8, granting absolutely obscene MP regeneration; especially in the early game when MP is low, Kogasa will be the attacker who simply doesn't run out of steam. (Originally it was 32, but after persistent bug reports, it was changed to something that looked less accidental.)

Awakened Skills
Skills
Name Max Lvl Cost Description
Angstfreude 1 60 When the user receives a turn, slightly restore HP for all frontliners. The restoration is increased in proportion to the number of characters or enemies under Terror. It is also increased in battles which cannot be fled from.
(2% max HP regen in random battles, +4% for each TRRed unit; 10% regen in event fights, +16% per TRRed unit.)
The Terror Unto Death 10 10 When the user attacks with a personal spell card on enemies under Terror, increase damage inflicted by (SLv * 10)%.
When this effect activates, remove the Terror effect (SLv * 2)% of the time.
Speedy Formation Change 2 5 When Kogasa performs a Formation Change, her timebar is set to (7500 + SLv * 800).
Comments
The Terror Unto Death maximally increases Kogasa's power on enemies under Terror. The 100% damage bonus stacks with the 33% damage bonus from Waterproof Ghost Umbrella to achieve an insane 266% multiplier; on the other hand, it doesn't work very well with Astonishing Ghost Umbrella as it may cure the Terror status and negate the defensive bonus.

Even against enemies that are resistant or immune to Terror, Kogasa also receives a passive healing skill, as well as Speedy Formation Change to work with it, which gives her something to do in these battles; the regeneration is potentially quite strong if you consider that spamming swaps (even to just swap two people already in the front) lets her take many turns quickly, and using the Healer or Dragon God subclasses grants some additional regen, making an HP tank build an option. This build can work particularly well with Instant Attack characters (Momiji, Mystia, Chen) who Kogasa can swap in and out with eachother at 91% delay for numerous instant attacks and party regen. Unfortunately, towards the end of Plus Disk ATB gain will become so large that this strat becomes less effective, but it shines quite a bit until the endgame grind wall.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 1F: Find Rumia twice. The second meeting requires 3 Manga Meat items (They will be consumed, so you won't get them back).
Play Notes Rumia initially seems like a poor man's Marisa, with rather mediocre stats in general aside from excellent Debuff resistance. However, she excels as an offensive utility character; Moonlight Ray is fast with a stellar damage formula for general situations, while Dark Side of The Moon is weak but sometimes a lifesaver due to completely ignoring defenses, and Demarcation is an invaluable party healing option. She cannot afford to build defensively as party support like Reimu or Demarcation will be too weak, but being able to serve as a part-time healer in addition to her offensive ability can be very useful.

While her stats are on the lower end, they're better than they look with her cheap library costs and fast level rate; however, she suffers from low max HP and Defense, hurting her stellar Mind stat, rendering her somewhat fragile without extra investment or lategame stat tweaking.

While most of her passives aren't particularly notable, Youkai's Knowledge is an extremely powerful tool, given that almost every single Touhou character boss is classified as Human, as well as many other bosses. Feel free to spend most of her skill points for stat boosts and subclasses instead.

Awakened Skills
Skills
Name Max Lvl Cost Description
Great Piercing Attack 1 60 Piercing Attack is enhanced, it now adds a further 20% pre-defense, pre-multiplier damage.
Robes of Engulfing Darkness 1 60 Moonlight Ray will inflict all status ailments. Dark Side of the Moon will debuff all stats.

Darkness-Lurking Youkai 10 10 Increase the user's Evade by (SLv * 8) and base Magic by (SLv * 1.2).
Proof of Kinship 1 100 The user's synergy skill will grant half of its bonus for every synergy partner who is in the backline.
Going it Alone 1 50 If no character in the party of 12 (except for user) can learn Team ⑨, increase the user's all stats (including ACC and EVA) by 16%. (Bug: actually only checks the 4 front line slots)
Comments
With her awakening, Rumia grows even stronger as offensive utility, gaining useful additional effects on both of her attacks, Evasion befitting a lurker of darkness, and some additional Magic. She also further expands her defensive piercing abilities, cementing her role as defense-piercing specialist and making Moonlight Ray and any subclass attacks potentially stronger than Dark Side of the Moon on high-Mind targets (it makes Moonlight Ray ~108% MAG at minimum for any skill level, slighter weaker than a Lv3 Dark Side of the Moon). Like all characters with synergy skills, she receives Proof of Kinship to make team synergy easier to use, but in addition all Team 9 members have the option of Going it Alone to free them from the restriction of being paired with their other members.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 2F: Cirno is found at the start of 2F, in front of the FOE.
Play Notes Cirno specializes in slowing foes to a crawl, packing some of the strongest Speed debuffs on your team and a useful all-target Paralyze spell card. Unfortunately, her usefulness, while undeniable if you need to disable, pretty much ends there - her mono-Cold spells aren't powerful enough to do much real damage, especially given mediocre offensive stats, and she's not durable enough to take hits (which makes her White Album spell rather pointless unless you build her full defensive). She's very good at what she does and can do enough damage to tear up random fights, but if you want versatility you'll have to look elsewhere.

Beloved Tomboyish Girl can passively inflict a small Speed debuff, which can negate the enemies' natural recovery from her debuffs. Always Rising after Falling helps her excel at disabling random fights, where she's liable to get taken out easily. Blizzard Blowout is a weird skill that's essentially a once-per-battle SPD debuff bomb, which is especially useful against bosses that are normally immune to SPD debuffs. Since Cirno isn't very useful on such enemies, using her like a bomb this way may actually be the best way for her to contribute. As a bonus it helps meeting Challenge Levels because Cirno doesn't require any stats for this skill (or rather it's better for her to be at level 1 so she dies easier).

Cirno's frailty is notable, however when combined with the Team 9 set along with her self buff, she can actually become a worthwhile second slot tank; outside of Team 9, you might consider instead blowing her points into HP for bosses to avoid sudden death as you try to lower their speed. Cirno generally doesn't need to subclass Hexer as Icicle Fall is already powerful enough, giving her freedom to choose for more utility options. Healer/Enhancer can give her something to do when the enemy is fully debuffed if running Team 9, and Warrior is useful because while her Attack stat is mediocre, the passive increase from being a Warrior as well as most of the Warrior skills help mitigate that, in addition to giving her more offensive options than her mono-Cold spells. Toxicologist is also a nice subclass to boost the PAR effect of Diamond Blizzard (which is already one of the strongest in the game), allowing her to cripple enemies not resistant to the ailment.

Tomboyish Girl's Vengeance 1 70 When the user uses a spell with a SPD debuffing effect and the debuff fails, inflict the debuff anyways at 1/5 strength regardless of resistance. Increases damage dealt with personal spellcards on speed debuffed enemies by Debuff*2.5 (max 125%).
Acrobatic Tomboyish Fairy 8 9 Increase the user's base SPD by (SLv), and the user's Evade by (SLv * 4).
Proof of Kinship 1 100 The user's synergy skill will grant half of its bonus for every synergy partner who is in the backline.
Going it Alone 1 50 If no character in the party of 12 has learned Team ⑨, increase the user's all stats (including ACC and EVA) by 16%.
Comments
Tomboyish Girl's Vengeance is Cirno's ace in the hole for SPD-debuff resistant enemies, which includes most bosses; 1/5 strength means that even Hexer boosted Icicle Fall will only inflict a 10% SPD debuff (11% if a debuff strengthening Main Equip is equipped), but as SPD debuffs are immensely valuable, stacking this effect can give you a tremendous edge; this skill also gives her a massive damage boost against SPD-debuffed enemies, but sadly it only applies to her own spells, which limits her element-wise. Her awakening also grants her the same "easier to use" package given to all Team ⑨ members, letting her enjoy some stat boosts regardless of the current state of your team. Acrobatic Tomboyish Fairy is normally not very useful when she simply needs to hit once with Icicle Fall and switch out, but if you want to stack a SPD debuff on a resistant foe, both the Speed and Evade can help.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 2F: Find Minoriko's hat. Bring 3 Great Tree's Leaves and she'll join you. She is required to beat the game.
Play Notes Minoriko is the closest thing LoT2 has to a pure cleric, who also happens to be rather unique in that her spell cards include a percentage of her own Mind into their formulas (and Minoriko has one of the highest Mind growths in the game). While her two offensive spell cards are useful early in the game, her middling Magic means she won't often use them in a boss fight, and quite frankly she has better things to do. Sweet Potato Room will be your go-to healing spell for much of the game's first half; it's the strongest heal in the game on base formula alone, so even without much investment in Magic she can still almost fully heal anyone except Komachi with one cast. In addition, Owotoshi Harvester is a single-target buff with the power of Great Hakurei Barrier but a low delay and MP cost. Build Minoriko defensively, increasing her already high Mind will not only let her fly in the face of enemy mages, it'll also increase her healing, while more HP and Defense can let her survive some weaker physical attacks, and keeping her alive will in turn let her keep everyone else alive; even in situations where Minoriko can't stay out for long, her high Speed allows her to do her job before quickly retreating to the backline.

Her offensive presence is mostly useful towards midgame; lots of regular enemies in the water and desert strata are weak to Nature and Minoriko is fairly fast - Autumn Sky is relatively low delay, and Warm Colour Harvest makes up for her low MAG with a great formula for an all-target attack. It looks expensive, but Minoriko has top-class MP regeneration, giving her the fuel to use it. Ability to Control Harvests gives her (and the rest of your front row!) a free MAG buff during all fights that helps her perform better than you may expect offensively... for exploration, at least.

Her personal skills are focused on increasing her longevity, rather than directly increasing her support abilities. Desire to Rest, Regeneration Ability, Emergency Recovery and Rapid Charge all go a long way to allow her to stay healthy and ready for a very, very long time. With her boundless MP, Minoriko excels at subclassing for additional support skills; subbing Enhancer, Herbalist, or Magician can give her excellent party support ability viable for the entire game.

Symbol of Abundance and Harvest 2 40 Ability to Control Harvest's MAG buff is increased by an additional (SLv * 4)%.
Comments
Minoriko's awakening skills make her already strong support effects even stronger. Myriad Goddess of Harvest lets Minoriko combine her two support spells to create a single powerful effect with low delay to boot (there is really no reason to use Sweet Potato Room when it generally heals enough at SLv1), while Symbol of Abundance and Harvest increases her passive MAG buff to 16% - which is even stronger than Byakuren's self buff, and it extends to the entire frontline to boot. Any magic-based party will absolutely love this effect. Beyond her support enhancements, Plantation's Blessing also gives her an additional regeneration that can even work past her max HP, giving her a buffer that protects her from being one-hit killed by physical attacks.

Surprisingly, the base Magic tweaking items in Plus Disk actually make her a fairly competent random fight sweeper as well, going first with a quite respectable Warm Color Harvest as she buffs the front's magic passively; but in bosses she's still well cemented in the support role, healing and boosting effectively with Herbalist as before whilst enjoying her increased regen and magic buffs.

Interestingly, with 18% HP regen per turn, high-speed support at 70% delays and a good Speed stat, Minoriko's awakening opens up the option of running her in a full HP build. She still boasts a good MND stat to soften magical blows, but now also enough HP cushion to take some physical hits. Although her base HP is somewhat low, if you devote a First Aid Kit to her and teach her HP Boost (and even Double HP Boost), her base HP can rise over 20 even without gems- and throwing your level ups in HP goes a long way towards making this build more viable than expected.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 3F: Defeat Komachi as a boss. She will join afterwards. She is required to beat the game.
Play Notes Komachi is a sponge tank who sports poor defensive stats but a phenomenal HP count, far and away better than anyone else on your team. This makes elemental affinities extremely valuable to her, especially now that a Physical affinity exists. Three of Komachi's four attacks can inflict Death, making her useful for sweeping away random encounters against enemies without Death resistance even without any ATK investment. Even if they do, Narrow Confines of Avici can leave the entire enemy party loaded down with stat debuffs and statuses. Komachi can also make a fairly capable physical attacker if you want some more offense; Scythe that Chooses the Dead boasts a decent damage formula, and if she subs Warrior then Row Attack Enhancement makes Ferriage in the Deep Fog powerful as well to let her cover 4 elements of damage at once.

Skills wise, Regeneration Ability probably stands out the most, being incredibly useful on a character with too much HP, little defense, and a focus on reducing damage by a percentage. Edokko God of Death is an interesting option that will allow her to build up damage passively whether tanking or attacking, and she can actually do very large amounts of damage with it on bosses with instant death attacks if she has some offensive investment (although high Spirit affinity will neuter that). Shinigami's Work is great for exploration since it increases the DTH chance of her spellcards even further, and Ferry Wages of Sanzu River provides some extra rewards.

Plus Disk buffed her base MAG growth from 6.4 to 8.0 (which is relevant towards one of her awakening skills). Ferriage in the Deep Fog also got increased DTH chance, which is very relevant since it allows Komachi with Reisen's help to potentially inflict DTH on some Main game bosses that couldn't be DTHed before without a NG+.

Slacker's Motivation 5 10 User's PAR, HVY and DTH resistances are increased by (SLv * 12).
Comments
Komachi's main awakening skill lets her spells take on a bit of composite effect, adding a MAG factor to her direct spells, and an ATK factor to Narrow Confines. Since the factor is added to the base formula of her spells, they're actualy affected by the spell's multiplier, meaning the actual added damage is more than just 80% ATK/MAG (specifically, if Shinigami's Scythe is maxed, Short Life Expectancy gets +105.6% MAG, Ferriage in the Deep Fog gets +200% MAG, Narrow Confines of Avici gets +160% ATK, and Scythe that Chooses the Dead gets +120% MAG). Even though Plus Disk buffed Komachi's base MAG, it's still too low for Shinigami's Scythe to grant much of a benefit to her direct spells (even if you boost her MAG with gems, tomes and library, you'll get around +15~25% damage at best); that said, the added ATK factor in Narrow Confines at least turns it into a fairly good multi-target attack for random encounters. Enma & Shinigami grants a decent stat boost if you have Eiki in the party, but due to Komachi's low defensive stats (and the fact Plus Disk puts less emphasis on defenses), it's basically only useful for the offensive stat boosts it provides. When it comes to tank-Komachi, Slacker's Motivation is the only somewhat relevant skill.

It's worth considering in general that, this late in the game and with so many base HP boosting methods through gems, jewels and tomes, other characters are now potentially better at serving as HP tanks than Komachi herself; awakened characters in Plus Disk have so much support potential that Komachi's ability to merely stand out and use Avici and subclass spells simply cannot compete. Unfortunately, since her damage potential doesn't particularly stand out either, Komachi mostly becomes a candidate for benchwarming in Gensokyo.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 3F - Find Chen on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor, then proceed to fight the group of mobs she leaves for you on each occasion. She will then be behind the 3F FOE and will be recruited there.
Play Notes Chen is a glass cannon physical attacker who relies entirely on hit-and-run tactics to fight. Now that Evasion is a functioning stat, Chen can use her amazing Evasion and blazing Speed to avoid at least some damage on the field. In battle, she relies on powering herself up with Kimontonkou and spamming Flight of Idaten until she either runs out of MP or is in danger of being hit. With no reason to invest in any kind of defenses thanks to nonexistent bulk, you can simply pump her Attack and Speed to sky-high levels, cast Kimontonkou for an 80% buff, and watch her absolutely shred enemies lacking adequate defenses or affinity. One hit from all but the weakest attacks will likely stop Chen cold; use her Speed and low delays to bail out if the enemy gets ready to fight back. When another character will be swapping Chen out for her, Phoenix Spread Wings is an excellent ending attack, boasting double Idaten's damage formula.

Chen's personal skills give good support for her hit-and-run DPS playstyle. Specifically, Instant Attack and Accelerate are huge boons. During explorations, Beat Down works with her tiny MP usage from spells to greatly prolong her time spent killing things rather than recovering in the back row, and she also makes great use of her great speed by reducing the penalty of running away from enemies.

When it comes to subclasses, one of the more interesting options for Chen is the Hexer subclass. Chen's self buff boosts her Attack up, but causes her defenses to plummet. Combining this buff with the Hexer's Conversion skill allows Chen to recover MP each turn proportional to the strength of debuffs on her, giving Chen the ability to continuously attack even without Beat Down.

However, despite her potential, Chen is greatly held back by her pitifully low base Attack, especially on any enemies with even moderately high Defense. If you plan to use her long-term, you must make sure to bolster her base Attack, as even a little bit of base increase will make a large difference in her damage; she also appreciates allies with DEF debuffs and the Heavy status, which halves enemy defense along with a 12% Speed debuff.

Indiscernible Monster Cat 10 6 Increase the user's Evade by (SLv * 6), base Attack by (SLv) and base Speed by (SLv).
Proof of Kinship 1 100 The user's synergy skill will grant half of its bonus for every synergy partner who is in the backline.
Comments
Chen gets a greatly desired boost in her Attack and Evasion with her awakened skills. Shikigami's Heavy Accel Attack is easy to activate for her since Flight of Idaten is so fast, and since it boosts ATK directly instead of damage, it helps her get around enemies with high DEF. Of particular note is that because Heavy Accel stacks increase whenever Chen gets a turn and she has Instant Attack, it's possible to use another Instant Attacker such as Mystia to constantly switch eachother in and out, allowing Chen to max out her stacks turn one. This is especially potent because Plus Disk has many sources of base ATK boosters to fix her poor attack; with Heavy Accel, base ATK increases, Warrior row boost, and hopefully Blazing off Mokou or Utsuho, Chen actually becomes one of the strongest attackers in the game (so long as the foe does not resist FIR; but even then, she still outdamages average characters with Phoenix Spread Wings)

Meanwhile, Indiscernible Monster Cat boosts all of Chen's key stats, but especially her Evasion, and with Ran's all-buff increasing Chen's evasion, she can hit truly intimidating levels of dodging; it also helps that in Plus it's possible to get enough base HP and affinity to take the occasional attacks. Lastly, Proof of Kinship is the standard skill given to all synergy skill holders, a small but welcome boost.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • You need a Strong Rugged Horn material to begin the crafting system. (One can be dropped from 2F FOE.)
  • Craft 10 items and Nitori will join.
Play Notes Nitori specializes in both horde-clearing and boss battles, and has the tools to do well at both. In random battles, she can pick between Cold and Nature all-target attacks, although unfortunately few foes are weak to these elements until you reach the desert and fire strata, at which point her usefulness in random battles skyrockets. Against bosses, she brings out Super Scope 3D, which is an extremely powerful single-target Physical nuke - much like Marisa and her Master Spark, saving a Scope for the last third or so of a tough boss's HP can give you the burst of damage you need to finish it off. Finally, Nitori has a utility spell in Portable Versatile Machine, which buffs all her stats at a very low delay - if nothing else, it's a useful tool for slightly delaying her turn, whether for swapping or to receive a big ATK buff before nuking away.

Her skills give her decent support in whatever playstyle she pursues. Overheating and Ability to Manipulate Water allow her to better stay-in and attack with her first two cards, while Cooling Down allows her to quickly recover the MP required to fire off another Super Scope 3D provided that her HP is full (which shouldn't be much of a problem if she's doing hit-and-run). Kappa's Ecology Observation joins at just the right time where the party is about to explore a region full of aquatic enemies. Finally, Maintenance isn't too useful early on when still mucking about with 12-36% stat boosting equipments, but as you find bigger and better gear, it's possibly the strongest skill in the game, boosting Nitori's stats to shockingly high levels; especially with the help of base stat increases such as the Transcendent class.

Name Max Lvl Cost Description
Enhanced Versatile Machine 1 50 Portable Versatile Machine's delay is reduced (83.2% -> 93.2%). Additionally, increases Overheat's damage boost to 20% per stack.
Kappa's Material Aesthetica 1 75 If the user is in the front at the end of battle, increase item drop rate by 20%. Additionally, if the user defeats an enemy, that enemy's item drop rate is increased by 40%.
Comments
Nitori's awakened skills are mostly utility-oriented, but still increase her damage potential; if anything, her power in Plus Disk is already so immense it would be insane for her to get that much stronger. Youkai Mountain Alliance? boosts her stats and, since most of the participants are useful for staying in the front, is easy to use. Enhanced Versatile Machine eventually makes her self-buff's delay end in a single ATB tick, making it useful for passing a turn or getting a head-start right before another character buffs her up; it also increases Overheat's damage boost (at 5 Overheat stacks, the damage boost is increased to 100% up from 75%), being the most readily accessible damage boost Nitori gets from her awakening. Kappa's Material Aesthetica doesn't directly contribute to combat at all, but it allows the player to obtain more equipment and materials to craft equipment with, which synergizes well with her immense attack power for farming rare materials and stat gems.

Character Overview and Comments
Recruitment
  • 1F: Will join after you have 12 characters in your party
Play Notes Parsee has the best Mind growth in the entire game, and decent level rate to make good use of it, too. Her HP is rather poor (a First aid Kit works wonders) so piercing spells are still dangerous. Her spells are centered around status ailments, particularly on Terror. She makes for a very good combo with Kogasa, and works well with most other debuff-centric characters as well. Speaking of debuffs, she herself has practical immunity to them, useful on debuff happy bosses and with Hina. Her defense is surprisingly decent, making her potentially bulky if attention is paid to HP; although she'll likely only serve as a tank versus magic-centric bosses, where especially early in the game, she can work wonders. When built offensively, she does terrifying damage when Jealousy of Kind and Lovely is applicable, and when you get the special effect on Large Box Small Box the numbers are more impressive than her low base Attack would have you think.

For her skills, she can provide offensive support for any party members that use Dark-elemental attacks, and also has Emergency Recovery and Two-Way Curse for her own survival. Final Blow increases damage on ailing enemies quite a bit (and it really shows on Jealousy of Kind and Lovely) and Manipulation of Jealousy provides a useful stat boost whenever either you or the boss you're fighting goes debuff-happy.

In Plus Disk, Grudge Returning's TRR improves and Jealousy of Kind and Lovely will be stronger when the enemy's TRR still has a long duration remaining, making Midnight Anathema Ritual's TRR truly impressive.

Jealousy-Fueled Final Blow 1 66 Further increases damage against targets suffering from an ailment by 32%.
(stacks multiplicatively with Final Blow's bonus)
Comments
Plus Disk's more reliance on high powered attacks reduced by elemental resistance means that Parsee has a harder job tanking hits, but her awakened skills instead give her an offensive edge. Green Eyed Monster and Jealousy-Fueled Final Blow work well together to greatly increase her damage on enemies inflicted with statuses (Jealousy of the Kind of Lovely in particular). Jealousy Bomber on the other hand boosts her only non-Dark spell, which can still be useful when elemental affinities favor it, and has potential to do quite a lot of damage when its triple damage triggers. While she needs the support of a status heavy team to make use of her skills, she definitely has the potential to be a powerful attacker when given the chance.
