Recruitment
  • 14F: Trigger the event on the western side to make her boss icon appears on the eastern side then defeat Yuyuko. She is required to beat the game.
Play Notes Yuyuko is another well-rounded mage character, but she also has high Death resistance, to nobody's surprise. All four of her spells are attacks which can inflict Death. She also has the unique ability to directly damage enemies' timebars; there is no resistance against this ability so nothing stops Yuyuko from to limiting the amount of turns they receive. Yuyuko does suffer from several low affinities, as well as sub par level-up difficulty, but she has good HP and excellent Mind to make her a tanky mage. Unfortunately, her magic stat is less impressive than hoped, with only Majesty to bolster her damage, but her skills boast good damage formulas.

Her skills are largely concerned with Yuyuko herself though she does have party wide benefits. Hakugyokuro's Mistress helps protect your party from the most dangerous status ailment and Those who Live in the Underworld provides a damage boost against Ghost type enemies. Majesty requires no reintroduction on its effect or power. Ticket to the Ageless Land greatly adds to her survivability towards the end of a boss fight when allies have fallen and Banquet of Regrets (which is now functional as of the latest version) adds to her trash clearing abilities in random encounters with its MP restoration.

Comments
Yuyuko's awakening skills are another set that focuses on stat boosts. Saigyou Ayakashi's Seal boosts her max HP to amongst the best in the game, greatly increasing her durability. Majesty+ increases her passive self-buff to 9%, letting her keep a higher baseline of buffs. Hakugyoukurou's Master and Servant lets her get another bonus for having Youmu in the party, regardless of whether she's in the front or not (and that's definitely appreciated, since Youmu needs to be at 1 HP for her own damage bonus to kick in). While she's in the front, her ability to protect the enemy from instant death is also increased, along with a damage increase on resistance enemies, aiding her damage on basically all boss fights. Yuyuko's playstyle does not really change at all from these skills, but she already carries powerful abilities from her spells, and her awakening skills do well to allow her to use them a lot more easily.

  • Clear all the bushes on 8F by getting enough BP with the necessary characters to pass events on the following floors:

  • Defeat Yuuka behind the bushes to recruit her.
Play Notes Yuuka is a mage that is well-suited for long battles. She has very high MP count, good magic growth, and fairly decent growths in defensive stats as well, so she can definitely take a few hits. Her spells are mono-nature elemental (until Plus Disk), but they all carry a distinct use for her - Flower Shot is fast, cheap, and accurate for beating down a single target, while the other two are usefully multi-target for randoms, with small but nevertheless helpful side effects for bosses, especially when Extra Attack kicks in to amplify them. Her disadvantages are low Speed and TP, making it difficult to use her in random fights.

Her skills are also completely focused on stay-in offensive. Extra Attack is still the excellent (if unreliable) damage booster that it is on other characters; Majesty and Encounter with a Strong Foe give her a large number of passive buffs if she can stay alive long enough while Tormenting Nature also provides a damage boost that's powerful in boss battles. Gensokyo's Eternal Flower, while having a wonky mechanic, also keeps her healthy while she remain on the frontlines. It's worth noting that with every trigger of Extra Attack on an attack, Encounter with a Strong Foe will trigger again; combined with Majesty, Yuuka has a trivial time maintaining high buffs.

Protection of Plants 8 15 When the user receives a turn, restore (SLv * 1)% of her HP. This effect can overheal to a maximum of 150% of her normal maximum HP.
Comments
Yuuka's awakening skills make up for her one weakness of not having a strong spell to blast things with. Master Spark is a massive mystic-elemental attack that hits more than twice as hard as her other spells, giving her a great weapon to use. It also costs a massive amount of MP, but with a MP regeneration skill, getting back the MP needed is not difficult, and Extra Attack also means that you can get several more castings for free. Speaking of Extra Attack, Dangerous Paradise powers it up so that Concentrate will act as a charging move, causing it to always activate at least once on the next attack. It's not as strong as most other charging skills, only equating to about 66% damage bonus, but with Master Spark's cost and delay it's well worth considering. Protection of Plants adds to Gensokyo's Eternal Flower in giving Yuuka even more durability.

Play Notes A specialty support mage, Yukari brings possibly the single most powerful ability in the game in terms of battle advantage - Yukari Yakumo's Spiriting Away sets your other three frontliners' timebars to full at the cost of her entire MP pool. It may be an insanely high cost but this is easily capable of turning the tide in a tough battle and should not be taken too lightly. She also packs a renamed version of Reimu's defensive buff; these two spells plus her naturally good bulk make Yukari among the most valuable supports in the game, and Mesh of Light and Darkness gets special note for being able to slow or Paralyze enemy teams. However, despite middling Magic, Yukari's no slouch when built offensively either; Shikigami Ran Yakumo+ is surprisingly powerful if the entire Yakumo trio is fielded, and Sorceror's Row Attack Enhancement elevates Hyperactive Flying Object into a formidable MND-piercing attack.

Yukari's skills have very interesting and quite useful effects. Border of Power and Magic is a godsend to allies with lopsided defenses and allows her to fully invest her own defenses into the superior Mind stat, and Border of Wounds and Cures is arguably more effective than any straight up percentage HP regeneration - the more she needs restoration, the more effective this skill is. Phenomenal Force of Will and Majesty are not as "interesting" as her other skills, but certainly no less effective. Yakumo's Clan stands out amongst its kind in that it has excellent synergy with Shikigami Ran Yakumo+, and should be kept in mind if you ever wish to use Yukari offensively.

Comments
Yukari's main addition to her skillset is actually an offensive one. Strengthened Use of Shikigamis allows Shikigami "Ran Yakumo +" to achieve its terrifying full damage even if Ran and Chen are in the backlines, greatly increasing the ease of use for the spell and giving Yukari a lot of offensive potential. Proof of Kinship makes it so that Yukari's bonus from Yakumo Family is also partially obtained from them in the back as well. Strong Boundary Manipulation enhances one of her base skills and is perfect for helping set up more damage from Shikigami "Ran Yakumo +", while First Category Perpetual Motion is a generally helpful skill that is a clone of one of Maribel's skills - it has even more use on Yukari who learns Majesty, which helps her maintain a higher baseline of buffs much like Majesty+ once she can receive them.

Play Notes Byakuren is a very versatile character with great flexibility in how she can contribute to the party. To start off, all of her stat growths are amongst some of the best in the game (other than Defense and Mind, which comparatively is only middling), which are only slightly hampered by her high level-up difficulty. She also carries four offensive spells with an impressive variety of damage types, elements, and special effects. However, unlike most other characters, Byakuren's passive skills completely define her, instead of merely being a complement.

Her skillset is very simple in concept - she will gain a 14% buff in every stat automatically, as well as 14% HP regeneration. However, 14% buff is NOT a small amount. With a little help from another buffer, Byakuren can easily achieve 100% in every stat, and can maintain the level automatically if there's a Strategist with Inspiration plan on the frontline (making Byakuren a prime candidate to becoming a Strategist), which is as terrifying as it sounds. There is more to it, though - her unique support spell Duplication Chant plays into her skills perfectly, allowing her to essentially throw around an 100% buff to all stats for only 4 MP and 50% delay, so everyone else can be as terrifying as she is in just one move. No other buffing character can come close to this level of effectiveness. That being said, her self-buffs do cost a lot of skill points, so she is probably one of the best candidates in the game for training manuals.

In Plus Disk her skills got hit with a huge nerf; her self-buffs are now only 12% in magnitude meaning that even Strategist is not sufficient to keeping it at 100% automatically, while her copying skill now only grants part of her buff to allies, though it works as a normal buffing skill now meaning that it adds to (instead of replacing) the target's existing buffs. Although she now no longer outclass every other buffing character by a country mile, at max she still has the highest buffing potential in the game, and she still has extremely high baseline for self buffs as well. It simply means that having another character who can help her with buffing is now a better idea.

Comments
Byakuren's awakened skills grant her a choice in improvements. Sutra - Infinite Mana is mostly a convenience set, though 3 MP regeneration is a pretty huge convenience and allows her to basically never run out of MP at all, especially if she's just using Duplicating Chant all the time. On the other hand, Sutra - Perfect Resistance covers her four weak affinities which makes up the bulk of her durability problems, while Sutra - Strengthen Immunity gives her resistances a minimum of 90 meaning most ailments will never affect her, even more so when combined with Resistance Boost. Byakuren can only learn one of the three skills however, so you will need to choose wisely depending on your needs and available equipment. Beyond these three skills, Blood of Superhuman is an interesting skill that powers up healing spells on her, and while most existing healing spells don't really need it as they're usually powerful enough to full heal, Plus Disk introduces a few precentage healing spells that will definitely benefit from this, particularly since those characters have some synergy with her as well (Rinnosuke synergizes with Shou who also synergizes with Byakuren, and Tokiko is helpful in keeping her buff levels up).

  • Komachi must have 400 BP or more to be able to battle Eiki. Defeat her and she will join.
Play Notes Eiki is a hybrid attacker who can choose to be a physical single-target attacker or a magical multi-target attacker, and either way can back up her damage with the ailment-spreading Wandering Sin. As a fighter, Eiki's Last Judgment is among the most devastating moves in the game, ignoring its victim's Defense and dealing extreme damage to anything that doesn't pack heavy Spirit affinity. As a mage, Trial of the Ten Kings is a respectably powerful spell that also applies weak debuffs to all stats. While very powerful, the Yama's spells are all high delay and she herself is none too fast, and you'll also want to boost her low MP so she can keep casting.

Eiki's personal skills all benefit from staying on the front lines. Majesty is the usual long-term power, while Cleansed Crystal Mirror is a little more damage reduction for your team. Three of her skills deal with MP recovery; Rod of Remorse pulls double duty by giving her an all-stat buff if she scores a kill, and Supreme Judge of Paradise helps your entire vanguard while plowing through random encounters. Thankful Preaching can even let her attacks Silence foes, which isn't hugely powerful against enemies but every little bit helps.

Eiki's two main awakening skills have different effects. Ability to tell Black from White powers up two of her base passives; Cleansed Crystal Mirror's powerup meaning that just having Eiki in the party of 12 at all will reduce all sources of damage, while Rod of Remorse allows her to speed up the MP recovery of the entire party (as well as speeding her own recovery even more). Black White Reversal is a charging move with an interesting effect; it allows even ATK-based Eiki to use her multi-target spells and MAG-based Eiki to use Last Judgement, while giving a boost that's even stronger than Great Incantation. However, if Eiki wants the boost on every attack she will either need to alternate between Last Judgement and one of her all-targets, or throw subclass spells in the mix, and without the constant boost the skill is mostly just a convenience, allowing Eiki to worry less about swapping equipment and investing into both stats in the library; use magical all-targets in randoms and concentrate for charged up blasts in bosses. Beyond those two skills, Enma and Shinigami gives her a synergy bonus from having Komachi in the party of 12, and she's in much better position to make use of it than Komachi, while Super Thankful Preaching powers up her inherent Silence effect; it's still not very reliable but every little bit helps.

  • After defeating the Ame-no-Murakumo on 20F, a special boss will appear next to the FOE on 16F Northwest.
  • Defeating the Shredding Amnisieri on 16F will make a new boss appear on 17F. To access him, you will need to defeat 6 Enhanced Bosses, which appear after defeating the boss rush on 20F on the east side (which is available after beating the Ame-no-Murakumo on 20F).
  • Defeating the Aria-Singing Toruastory on 17F will make a new boss appear on 18F. To access him, you will need to defeat all 12 Enhanced Bosses.
  • Defeating the Staring Igmaruji on 18F will make the barrier event on 16F disappear, allowing you to recruit Renko
Play Notes Renko is a pure support mage with low stats (save for Speed and Evasion), but a high leveling rate and Maintennance to compensate for it; the latter of which can potentially propel her into the role of tankiest character in the game. Her two spells, while powerful in effect, come with drawbacks, making it so that you must think carefully about when to use them. Her Galaxy Stop inflicts three status ailments and has good accuracy, but will take a sizable chunk out of your allies's timebars as well, while her Charge spell will give a fairly potent buff to the entire party at the cost of roughly one third of the HP of Renko's allies.

Renko's personal skills focus on aiding the team while exploring. Ability to Read the Stars and Ability to Read the Moon help increasing your party's ailment resistances, even when not in front. It can help your party to be immune against all status effects, but won't help characters with almost no resistance to start with. She functions especially well when paired with Maribel, gaining great HP and MP regen along with boosted stats to support the party all the better.

While Renko is an incredible tank, her limited moveset's cost and drawbacks can be problematic, so look to subclasses for more support skills. Enhancer can greatly reduce Charge's drawback HP loss while powering it up, and it's own weaker buffs can be useful alternatives when you just need to buff a single person. Alternatively, Herbalist grants a great selection of support skills as usual.

Renko's awakening skills enhance her party support. Assault Point allows Renko to increase the damage for the entire party without spending any MP. Note that it does require Renko to inflict non zero damage, so it creates some offensive investing requirement for her. Her other two awakening skills improve her passive ailment resistance skills even further. They now give a 48% increase, which can turn good resistances into immunities and mediocre ones into good ones, though be aware that they still won't do anything for characters with 0 resistances.

Whilst Renko needs to deal damage to activate Starting Point of Assault and has a dreadfully low base stat for both ATK and MAG, keep in mind she possesses Maintenance; ATK/MAG boost skills or gems can go a long way. Maribel's own awakening provides Renko with a hefty stat boost to help her reach the needed stat values. MAG is the more appealing choice due to Galaxy Stop, especially as it's far stronger than Attack with very low MND influence to deal the needed damage, but it still eats the party's ATB bars and costs far more than using Attack; just go for whichever stat is convenient or matches her equipment. Past that, even if you opt to avoid increasing her offense at all, there is a significant (50%?) chance to hit for 1 damage on any enemy regardless of defenses.

Play Notes Maribel is a mage that comes with somewhat average stats, but unusual and useful spellcards. She is primarily an offensive character with the ability to support when she needs to. Her main gimmick is her Liberated Abilities spellcard, which due to possessing the void element, is resisted by extremely few enemies and cannot miss. Overflowing Unnatural Power is a powerful self buff, but greatly reduces her current HP; be sure to have someone ready to heal her afterwards. Mari's DIY Novice Border acts as a weaker, multi-target version of the Herbologist's Herb of Excitement spell, and when leveled up becomes a multi-target heal, allowing Maribel to throw out some support when needed; the heal may not be super strong, but in a full MAG build it's definitely nothing to scoff at either, and can benefit from Great Incantation when necessary.

Maribel's skills are entirely focused on allowing her to deal to more damage, and encouraging her to stay on the frontlines. Sealing Club is an extremely powerful synergy skill that should be fully utilized. Her Ability to See Boundaries makes her incredibly formidable against self-buffing enemies, while Ability to Meddle With Boundaries keeps her own buffs high. Rapid Charge and Grand Incantation round out her skill set, giving her even more benefits for being a stay in mage who can keep on casting without skipping a beat, and allowing her to take better advantage of some of the slower, higher cost+power subclass magic attacks.

Maribel's crown jewel of her awakened skills is Vision Sharing, providing a new method of boosting everyone's stats even higher than normal. Considering that Maribel has a powerful self-buff, it's easy to use right from the start of a fight. It even functions at lower strength with Maribel in the back, making it easy to take advantage of. That it increases Renko's stats by twice as much also segues nicely with Renko's own awakening skill, which greatly appreciates the increased MAG, along with sending Renko to even tankier levels of durability. Control of the Unnatural synergizes nicely; with that and her buff at max level, she loses no HP on cast, making it easy to buff up and start powering up the party.

However, her other awakening skill is just as useful, if not even moreso; Control of Liberation boosts Liberated Abilities into a massive 328% MAG - 102% MND nuke that can't miss and is almost never resisted. This alone boosts Maribel from an unassuming jack of trades to an offensive juggernaut; a Sealing-Club-boosted Liberated Abilities will absolutely annihilate random battles, providing even further encouragement to make an Enhancer Renko doling out "Art of the Battlemage" or Charge every fight before Maribel takes her turn and potentially one-shots all mook-grade enemies. With Grand Incantation, it's a powerful attack in boss fights as well.
