14F: The Ruby Blazing Woods that Oppose Everything

Overview

Only a small portion of 14F is accessible at first. Defeating the Memorized Knowledge here will allow you to pass the rock on 13F and access three new fire control orbs and explore the rest of 13F.

Enemies

Gelatine Cubes have extremely high defenses but very low HP, so make sure you have a character who can deal with them. Otherwise the enemies are about the same as on 13F.

The Memorized Knowledge is a very simple boss fight, much like the two FOEs on floor 10. On its first turn, it will buff its Magic to 100% and attack with a strong multi-target Mystic attack the next turn and then repeat. Your switchers just need to be able to take the hit and then you can easily switch your attackers and healers in and out of the active team.

The Memorized Knowledge has astronomically high Mind but almost no Defense so bring your physical attackers (Kaguya still works, but is less than optimal). It heavily resists Mystic but is weak to Dark and Physical, so bringing Yuugi, Kogasa, Kasen, Sakuya, Remilia, and especially Chen is helpful. It resists all statuses except Debuffs but the only debuff you should focus on is Speed. Alice can both deal damage and help reduce Speed with Tripwire yet again.

It's also possible to take a shot at removing the Magic buff via Tenshi, but even unboosted, Ether Flare will still likely one-shot anyone but heavy tanks and Memorized Knowledge will buff itself again after casting Ether Flare once, and the self-buff has a much shorter delay than another Ether Flare.

Yuyuko has a myriad of multi-target attacks of varying elements that have effects attached to them. She opens the fight with Saigyouji Flawless Nirvana to deal strong Dark damage to all party members and it has a high chance to inflict death on them. If the damage didn't kill them, they'd still likely die to the Death effect, so boosting your teams Death resistance is immensely helpful.

She has a multi-target Fire attack that debuffs Attack and a multi-target Mystic attack that debuffs Magic so Debuff resistance is helpful but not needed if you're careful about your switching. She has a row-target Dark attack that can inflict Death and another strong multi-target Spirit attack that can also inflict Death. This Spirit attack is used at the 50% HP threshold and she has access to it for the rest of the fight. If this wasn't bad enough, Yuyuko also has access to the multi-target Dark attack that inflicts Death, Paralysis, Heavy and Shock that you've seen before.

Yuyuko heavily resists Spirit and Dark attacks and is weak to Fire and Wind, making Alice, Okuu, Aya and Suika great damage dealers for this fight. As for her status resistances, she heavily resists Paralysis, moderately resists everything else except Terror and Silence which she is weak to. Kogasa and Parsee sadly can't take advantage of that weakness since she resists Dark attacks. Kasen can also be put to good use with her Diving Waltz of the Raijuu spell which is a Wind attack. It also lowers Mind, so it can soften Yuyuko up for your Magic attackers.

Once Yuyuko hits the 33% HP threshold, she'll use focus and cast Saigyouji Flawless Nirvana again the next turn. You could attempt to kill her before she casts it, though that would require dealing ~100000 damage in two of her turns (assuming you anticipated the Focus and have already started pummeling her) so it may not be feasible.

Komachi deserves a shout out for being a very great tank for this fight. She's nearly immune to Death, sporting 160 resistance that can be further boosted by equips. This makes Komachi the prime candidate for surviving the two Flawless Nirvana casts. Since many of Yuyuko attacks inflict Death, Komachi will be counter attacking very often. While the damage won't be too high unless you boosted her attack a bit (and even then, the damage is lowered since Yuyuko resists Spirit), it still adds a good chunk of damage to the fight.

This fight is essentially a damage race. Most of the Demon's attacks aren't very damaging but they inflict a variety of status ailments. Your party should be geared to be immune to practically all of them, particularly to Paralysis, Silence, Heavy, and Debuffs. If you're careful enough with switching, you can just focus on making your tanks and supports immune to these ailments.

A major obstacle in this fight however, is that on the 4th turn, the Desire-Eating Demon will use Empty Mouth That Swallows Sinners. This is a single-target Dark attack that deals around 1,000,000 damage and inflicts Death, regardless of resistances. Whats worse is that it doesn't have a specific targeting pattern so you must switch out your attackers every 4th turn. After it is used the first time, The Desire Demon will alternate between its other attacks and Empty Mouth That Swallows Sinners. Needless to say, you have to defeat it quickly before your entire party is decimated one by one. The boss has very high HP and is rather fast so this will be a very short but highly difficult battle.

The Desire-Eating Demon is weak against Cold and Nature but highly resistant to Mystic, Spirit, Dark, and Physical and neutral to Fire and Wind. So Nitori, Nazrin, Yuugi, Suika, Kanako, Suwako, Yuuka (or anyone with a Monk Subclass) is your great damage dealer here.

It is weak against Silence and Shock and moderately resistant to Debuffs so prepare your characters as you see fit. Inflicting Silence can help your magically inclined attackers while inflicting a Speed Debuff can slow the boss a bit. Its weakness to Shock should be exploited so bringing in Kasen, Reisen, Remilia, Flandre, Renko and Maribel. Orin and Kogasa are highly recommended in this battle. Kogasa can help Shock and deal Nature damage with her Karakasa Surprising Flash while Orin can Shock the boss reliably and continuously with her low-delay Cat's Walk. Renko can both inflict Silence and Shock on the boss as well as apply a crippling Speed Debuff, but can be risky to use, should Galaxy Stop fail.

There is the potential to keep the boss permanently Shocked with Orin and the Magician subclass along with the Great Hammer main equipment. Doing this would nullify the threat of Empty Mouth That Swallows Sinners and stop the fight from becoming a damage race, but that wouldn't be very fun would it?
