2F: The Green Hall that Knows Those Who Hold Power

Overview

Your first order of business is to touch the blue circle near the stairs. This is a relay circle; once you touch one you'll be able to enter that floor directly from Gensokyo.

  • The nearest exclamation point earns you Cirno, who joins your party and points you at a large fireball nearby. These fireballs are FOEs, extremely powerful enemies that appear throughout the Great Tree. On any given floor, you'll always find the same FOEs in the same place, although they don't respawn immediately. FOEs generally roam a small area, but if you approach their area they'll turn red and begin pursuing you until they either catch you or you leave their area. FOEs are generally far too strong for you to take on immediately; come back once you've explored at least the current floor and gained several levels. Once you've defeated floor 2's FOE, it frees up a staircase to floor 1, leading to the last two treasure chests. Defeating this FOE will unlock the creation of sub items in Nitori's Workshop.
  • Head South then West to to find another relay circle and Kaguya. Like the FOE, you're probably not ready to take her on quite yet so keep exploring the rest of the floor. Once defeated, a new event with Eirin can be viewed which will be needed to later recruit Wriggle.

Enemies

  • Ferocious Ghostie can hit your entire party fairly hard with its Great Roar attack. Other than that, like the first floor, the enemies are not particularly dangerous.
  • You will meet some previously seen enemies but they will have higher level and more health (though Kuron Nut seems to have the same amount, so the rule doesn't spread on everyone) than stated in Bestiary. Due to this it's impossible to know their exact amount of HP, so the approximate amount will be stated in the table.

This encounter incorporates the very basic idea of adapting to an all-magic using enemy. Kaguya will only attack with elemental nukes that always hit your whole party. It's best to soak Kaguya's attacks by keeping 2 magically resistant characters active and having them do most of the switching. Reimu and Marisa are well-suited for this job, as long as their defenses stay buffed.

The first half of the fight should be used to increase your party's stats. Most of Kaguya's turns will have her use various elemental winds. After you deal a certain amount of damage to her, her next move will be an impossible request: Dragon Necklace (Mystic-elemental) at 80% HP and Swallows Cowrie Shell (Nature-elemental) at 40% HP and she will add those attacks to her arsenals. While they may pack a stronger punch, Kaguya will have a relatively low ATB after their use. It's a good idea to quickly switch in a fragile attacker afterwards (Kogasa, Cirno), have her attack and retreat again before Kaguya gets the next move.

Don't reduce Kaguya's health to below 60% unless your characters are well buffed and healthy: Once you do, she will use Buddha's Stone Bowl (Spirit-elemental) on the next turn. It will hit hard, possibly debuff your group's defenses and buff all of Kaguya's stats on top of it. It also initiates the 2nd phase, where Kaguya will use her impossible requests more often, including a reuse Buddha's Stone Bowl if she feels like it.

Needless to say, with the 2nd phase the fight becomes a damage-race: Try to finish her off quickly then, as you likely won't stay in control much longer. It's still a good idea to renew Reimu's and Marisa's defenses first, should they lose them to the effect of Buddha's Stone Bowl. Should Kaguya get another turn when her health is at around 20% HP, she will concentrate. This means that she'll use her battle-ender, Bullet Branch of Hourai, on her next turn. If you keep Marisa's MP over 27 as a safety, you can use a Master Spark for this occasion and defeat her in time without problem.

Kaguya will NOT join after the fight, but a new event with Eirin will appear on the 2F.

Alice's Doll is available from stairs in the middle of the 3rd floor. She doesn't have much health, but is very fast, so she can easily attack twice or thrice before your characters can get another turn, she attacks with physical attack so make sure you have some characters with strong DEF to keep on the front line.

Chrysomallos is a strong physical attacker and uses mainly single-target "Attack" and row-based attack "Row Attack". It will use Great Roar, a strong multi-target Physical attack that targets Mind once it's HP is reduced to 75% and 30%. so make sure you have your physically durable characters near the front. The newly-recruited Cirno is the key to victory here; Chrysomallos is weak to debuffs, so Icicle Fall spam can slow it down to 50% and cripple its offense greatly. It seems to have significantly higher defense than magic defense, so Youmu and Momiji won't be able to do much damage. Kogasa on the other hand can take advantage of the fact that it's weak to Dark and can also debuff its mind, letting your magic attackers do even more damage, though she herself won't be doing too much damage since her attacks target enemy Defense. It's also weak to Spirit and Mystic so a boosted Master Spark will knock off a very large chunk of health.
