3F: The Emerald Forest that Swallowed Foolish Pilgrims

Overview

The main feature of floor 3 is a green switch near the entrance. Press Z when next to it to trip it; each time you do you'll trigger the seals around the floor, closing the open seals and opening the closed ones. Experiment with the switch to fully explore this floor.

  • All the way in the Northeast corner of the floor sits the 3rd and final "Boss" fight event with Chen. Once defeated, all thats left between you and recruiting Chen is the FOE, the Lesser Golem.
  • In the Southwest corner of the floor, an event with Wriggle can be encountered, once you talk to Eirin on floor 2. After the event is triggered, an insect boss will spawn on the South East portion of the floor. After defeating it and the insect boss on the next floor, you can talk to Eirin on floor 2 to get the medicine needed to recruit Wriggle.
  • Reisen can be found at the southeastern path of this floor. Talking to her and completing Wriggle's quest is needed to fight Mokou on the next floor.
  • A bush is blocking the way towards Komachi and the stairs to floor 4. To get rid of it, trigger the boss fight event in the West side of the floor. To reach it, the green switch must turned so that the path towards the east from the relay is unblocked. Yukari and Yuyuko will be joining you in the fight against the boss. Your regular characters are pretty much guaranteed to die immediately, so really you're just fighting the boss with Yukari and Yuyuko. Just using the top most spell card in their arsenal 2 or 3 times is enough to take the boss down.

Chen pits you against a third squad of five regular enemies in this not-so-boss battle. This time, 3 of the enemies will attack all members for around ~50 - 70 damage each. Survive the initial onslaught and this battle is already won.

Spellbook - High Hurricane - 33%
The Great Tree's Poisonous Wasp uses poison a lot, in both a weak party-targeting mist spell and a single target physical attack, both of which seem to be Nature-elemental that inflict Poison. Its other spell is a multi-targeting Wind spell, so you won't take a ton of direct damage, but Rinnosuke is very likely your only member capable of removing poison at this point (and he's quite vulnerable to it himself) so be prepared to cast First Aid a lot. Minoriko can't cure poison but she can survive fairly well thanks to her base resistances to Nature, Wind, and Poison.

The other issue with this fight is that it's fairly difficult to even deal much damage despite the relatively low HP count. The Toxin Insect is technically weak to physical attacks but has such high defensive stats that most won't scratch it (Youmu at least should be able to punch through with Slash of Eternity) and resists Mystic, which means that Rumia and Marisa aren't as effective as they would be normally. On top of that it has fairly high evasion as well. It is weak to Dark and Spirit as well as Physical and is somewhat vulnerable to debuffs so Kogasa's A Rainy Night's Ghost Story is the perfect attack against this boss.

The last obstacle before Chen can be recruited. The Lesser Golem is an extremely difficult FOE to fight despite the low HP. It has extremely high Defense and Mind making almost all attacks deal 0 damage. In addition to its high defenses, the Lesser Golem also sports extremely high physical attack, dealing 300-400 damage a hit. Luckily, its restricted to single target attacks that have preference in targeting the left most character. Rumia is the key to winning this fight. Her Dark Side of the Moon spell ignores the enemy Mind, making it the only spell that can hurt the Golem without being heavily buffed before hand. Have Rinnosuke and Keine focus on buffing Rumia's Magic, while Minoriko keeps up with the defensive buffs and healing. If one of your characters can take a hit from the golem with buffs on, it will make this fight much easier. Otherwise, its a damage rush to kill it before it slowly wipes out your team one by one.

This is a harsh, ugly and to a high degree luck-based fight, as it has a strong emphasis on instant-death-effects that you have little means to protect yourself against at this point. There are still some effective means to save yourself from all but the worst of luck: Before you go into fight, make sure that Youmu has 100-plus Death resistance, giving her immunity from it, as she will soak the most of these effects. Also concentrate on giving her gear that boost HP, Defense, Speed, and Physical affinity, as she will be your devoted switcher in slot 1 with little reason to ever use her high-delay attacks. One advantage you have is that Komachi has little in the way of defense (outside of her large HP pool), weakness to three elements (over half of your characters can nail a weakness one way or another), and very low debuff resistance.

Initially, Komachi only has three attacks: a generic physical "Row attack", Phantom Coldness, a cold-elemental multi-target mist magical attack, and Short Life Expectancy. The first two will do damage as advertised and be of little threat, but Short Life Expectancy carries a high death effect and fairly high physical damage. Komachi will always target the leftmost character with it though, so that's why you would have Youmu there absorbing it, as no one else can survive either its damage or its death effect for very long. As long as Youmu is safely sitting in the slot, you can feel free to buff up and debuff down as Komachi will have very little to use to threaten your other party members with at this point. Do make sure that Youmu is always standing, though, as if she falls, you will most likely lose this fight as Short Life Expectancy will make short work of your other party members.

When her HP is down to 75%, she will add Ferriage in the Deep Fog to the mix. This is a cold-elemental row-targeting attack that doesn't deal much more damage than the mist, but can inflict instant death on your entire party. This is why you want to buff up in the beginning, as there is nothing you can do to deal with this move at this point (you likely only have one strong anti-death equipment which is most likely on Youmu right now). As soon as you see her going below that point, start rushing in the damage as time is no longer on your side. Cirno's speed debuff would be really nice at this point.

The next thing you should be aware of is that when Komachi's HP falls below 40%, she will always use Narrow Confines of Avici on the next turn. Its a spirit-elemental magical attack that isn't all that strong (although still hits harder than her cold attacks), but inflicts terror, shock, death and 50% debuff on all stats on your entire party. You will want to be prepared for this as you do not want your key party members to be hit by this attack. Rumia can clean up any debuffs after it is executed, but she will be unlikely to survive the move with her poor durability and spirit affinity. She will not use that move again afterwards, so you do not have to worry about it further.

Finally, at below 25% she will cast Scythe that Choose the Dead and add it to her arsenal. It's a spirit-elemental single-target attack that does even more damage than Short Life Expectancy and inflicts death as well, and it won't always target leftmost character either. A single target death-dealing move is surprisingly uncrippling compared to bad luck with Ferriage, but once you see it, it's your cue to pull out any heavy hitters left (like Marisa's Spark) and finish this fight. At this point, Komachi may sometimes cast Recover to heal her health for a negligible amount.

Once Komachi is defeated, she will clear the way to the 4F-stairs and also join you as expected.

First, it's important to note that on a normal playthough, it is Lv 30+ and you are joined by a Lv 54 Yuyuko and Yukari who easily defeat it. However, on NG+, you have to fight it yourself, but its level is reduced to 14.

Alaya likes to attack with party and row attacks, both Direct and Magic and of various elements. He prefers magic attacks, though. He hits fairly hard especially with Horizontal Slice, so try to avoid having any glass cannons out. He's on the slow side, so this shouldn't be too much of an issue. He's very weak to both Fire and Cold and heavily resists Wind and Nature. He is weak to Heavy and Terror, somewhat resists poison, and heavily resists or is flat out immune to everything else.
