Touhou Suichouka - Rootasuiitaa-tachi no Suisei (東方酔蝶華 ~ ロータスイーター達の酔醒, Lit: "Touhou: Drunken Butterfly Flower - Sobering of Lotus-Eaters"), officially translated to English as The Lotus Eaters, Drunk and Sober, is an official Touhou manga series written by ZUN and illustrated by Mizutaki. It is serialized monthly in the Comp Ace magazine since November 2019, with 21 released chapters so far. It's also released for free with a month of delay on Kadokawa's ComicWalker, Nico Nico Seiga and Touhou Garakuta. An official English translation started publishing in July 2021 by Kadokawa.

Plot

In the Human Village lies the bar Geidontei, where the zashiki-warashi Miyoi Okunoda works as a poster girl and waitress. The series revolves around her and the various mysteries and incidents surrounding her. After hours there is a small youkai-only get-together called the Sanshoku Geidontei (蚕喰鯢呑亭) with Suika Ibuki, Aya Shameimaru and Mamizou Futatsuiwa.

Concept

Mizutaki have been creating Touhou doujinshi for many years before Lotus Eaters, with his work featured in Strange Creators of Outer World and Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia.

Name

Suichouka (酔蝶華) is spelled with characters meaning "drunk", "butterfly" and "flower", respectively. An antonym of the series' title Suichoka (風蝶草), which are flowers in the Cleome genus, also named Cleome Spider flower. Suisei (酔醒) contains the character for but drunk and sober, and means the instant sobering after getting drunk. Lotus-Eaters refers to the race of the same in Greek mythology, who mainly fed on intoxicating lotus plants and displayed apathetic behaviour. It's also an expression in English meaning roughly "daydreamer".

Press

The series was first revealed in the November 2019 issue of Comp Ace, released in September 2019. The series would start serialization two months later in the January 2020 issue of the magazine.

In August 2020 they announced the release of the first volume, which would compile the first seven chapters of the series. [1] After its first release weak it was 93rd in the top 100 most bought books on Amazon. [2] The second volume was released in April 2021.

At the Crunchyroll Expo in 2021 Kadokawa announced that they would start publishing an official translation of the series, as part of their "Simulpub" initiative. [3] The official translations are distributed near simultaneously with the original Japanese version.
