sukina hito no iu koto wa dareka wo kaete iru sukina hito no iu koto wa atashi no tame ja nai

The words of people we like, they change some people but the words of those people aren’t meant for me[1]

asobitai kara marui poketto ni doko doa doko doa wo dareka ni akesaseru

I want to play, so I’ll let someone open the Wherever Door, the Wherever Door in my round pocket[2]

muzukashii koto iu hito wa nandemo muzukashiku suru muzukashii koto iu hito wa jibun wa wakaranai

People who say difficult things make everything difficult[3] I don’t understand these people myself

asobitai kara marui poketto ni doko doa doko doa wo dareka ni akesaseru

I want to play, so I’ll let someone open the Wherever Door, the Wherever Door in my round pocket

erai hito no iu koto wa tame ni naru keredo erai hito wa atashi wo baka ni shiteru no kana

The words of great people are good for us but[4] I wonder if they look down on me

asobitai kara marui poketto ni doko doa doko doa wo dareka ni akesaseru

I want to play, so I’ll let someone open the Wherever Door, the Wherever Door in my round pocket

dondondon dondondon doa wo tataite dondon tataite tataku doa doko ni aru no dondondon dondondon doa wo tataite dondon tataite tataku doa doko ni aru dondondon dondondon doa no toko doko ni doa doa no toko doko ni doa doa wo tataiteru

Knock-knock-knock, knock-knock-knock, knocking on the door[5] With a knock-knock, where’s the door that’s being knocked on? Knock-knock-knock, knock-knock-knock, knocking on the door With a knock-knock, the door that’s being knocked on is not here Knock-knock-knock, knock-knock-knock At the door, the door to wherever, at the door, the door to wherever I’m knocking on the door

asobitai kara marui poketto ni doko doa doko doa wo dareka ni akesaseru

I want to play, so I’ll let someone open the Wherever Door, the Wherever Door in my round pocket

Notes

  1. 好きな人 (the person I like) is often one-sided. The singer is expressing that she will not change who she is for such a person.
  2. Halozy’s version of the Anywhere Door from Doraemon, which Doraemon pulls out of his round belly pocket.
  3. Could mean either a complicated or troublesome way.
  4. 偉い人 is a person of high social standing. 偉い means great/admirable/famous, but also can mean conceited.
  5. どんどん is an onomatopoeia for steadily drumming something. Since knock is also the onomatopoeia for the action of knocking, so I decided to keep it as such.
