oboe teru? sukoshi sabishii mada kegare naki sekai de soko ni ne ima no kimi ga umaretan dayo

Do you remember? You, as you are now, were born in a world that was still a bit lonely and pristine.

kokoro ni hibiku iru ubugoe kotoba ni dekinai kimochi yowaku mo nigiru yubi ni kizuka sare tayo

Like arrows, you fired the first cries reverberating through your heart. I felt something inexpressible. Weakly grasping your fingers made me notice it.

watashi to narabu kimi zutto issho ni itai to omotta yo sou tsukiakari no shita de "usagi" wa hora hohoende sotto kisu shita

You and I stood side by side. I wanted to be with you forever. Yes—beneath the moonlight, the 'right heron' was smiling. I gently kissed you.

adokenakute hitoribotchi nai teta kimi ippai ippai nagusame ta yone omoide kira ri hoshi mo ippai soba ni ite kurete umarete kurete hontou arigatou

You were crying all alone. You looked so innocent. I did the best I could do to comfort you. There are so many memories and shining stars. For being by my side, for being born— thank you, truly.

kono mama zuttozutto tsuzuku to omoetanoni jikan ga tateba kotoba surechigatte iku

I thought things would stay like this forever but as time passed, we began to misunderstand each other.

hinekure mono no kimi soushite hanarebanare ni nattan da sou tsuki no ue de hitori "usagi" wa aa sabishikute kotoba tojikometa

You were a contrarian. And like that, we got separated. On the moon, the 'right heron' was… ah… so lonely. She sealed her words away.

kegareta basho aragai ikiteiku kimi ippai ippai yogorete shimattane sore demo iin janai ka na? taisetsu na no wane kimi ga kimi rashiku iru koto nandayo

You, in that impure place, continued to live contrarily. You became utterly corrupted. Even so, isn't that okay? You know, what's important is that you live while being true to yourself.

soushite mata kono sekai deau futari kotoba nai seijaku no jikan demo ne "sou, kiraijanai wa" mata tsuki no shita de "usagi" wa hora warau yo

And thus, the two met again in this world. They spent their time together wordlessly. But, well… "Yeah, I don't hate you." Beneath the moon, look! The 'right heron' is smiling.

kegareta naka utsukushiku tatsu shirasagi ippai ippai kimi to aruiteikou niwade mochizuki aoide haneru wa umare, deai, hateni hontou arigatou

The beautiful heron stands among impurity. I will walk with you as far as I am able. As two birds, we will look up at the full moon then take off. At birth, upon meeting, and at the end of it all— thank you, truly.

  1. Usually, うさぎ (usagi) would be read as 兔 ("rabbit"). Given the nature of this song, however, another reading would be 右鷺 ("right heron").
