Original Romanized Translation

こよい風吹きぬける丘の上 杯に落ちた月を呑む 去りし人と見しあの月を 今までも忘れず

koyoi kaze fukinukeru oka no ue sakazuki ni ochita tsuki wo nomu sarishi hito to mishi ano tsuki wo ima mademo wasurezu

Tonight the wind is blowing above the hills I drink the moon dropped in my sake cup The people that left and the gaze of that moon I’ve never forget them

遠い日の人々と違え行き 詠われる生の霊となりても こよい我に並ぶ者なし 今はただひとりよ

tooi hi no hitobito to tagaeyuki utawareru inochi to narite mo koyoi ware ni narabu mono nashi ima wa tada hitori yo

Each person’s past is different The sung life is also changing Tonight for me no one is standing in a line Now I’m alone as usual

体を曲げてふと振り返り 砕けた月を仰ぎ見る 欠片を拾い集めれど 戻らぬ息の風よ

karada wo magete futo furikaeri kudaketa tsuki wo aogimiru kakera wo hiroiatsumeredo modoranu inochi yo

I suddenly turned around and Looked up at the broken moon I’ll grab a fragment of it This life won’t come back

去りし友に捧ぐ杯

sarishi tomo ni sasagu sakazuki

I drink a cup of sake for my friends who left

光さす無垢なる朝に起き 華やぐ栄えの昼を行き 闇の帳さす夜を越え 人はまた鬼と並ぶ

hikari sasu muku naru ashita ni oki hanayagu sakae no hiru yuki yami no tobari sasu yoru wo koe hito wa mata oni to narabu

The light shines so pure now that the morning arrived An afternoon of glory is brightly shining I cross the night and its curtain of darkness that’s rising People are still demons standing in a line

体を曲げてふと振り返り ゆるりと体を戻すとき 視界の端に佇むは 小さな生の血よ

karada wo magete futo furikaeri yururi to karada wo modosu toki shikai no hashi ni tatazumu chiisana inochi yo

I suddenly turned around and When I slowly turned back What stand right in front of me Was a little life

去りし友に捧ぐ杯 並ぶ友と交わす杯

sarishi tomo ni sasagu sakazuki narabu tomo to kawasu sakazuki

I drink a cup of sake for my friends who left I exchange a cup of sake with my friends lined up

ちはやぶる神々を楽しませ あめつちに遊ぶ者どもよ 畏れ忌まわれるこの鬼も あわれとおもわせ

chihayaburu kamigami wo tanoshimase ametsuchi ni asobu monodomo yo osore imawareru kono on imo aware to omowase

The powerful gods are amused By the people who play with the nature Being afraid is unpleasant even for this demon Believe me, this is sorrow

体を伸ばしふと眺めれば にぎやかす声はそこかしこ ならば今宵は良い月よ 美しき生の道よ

karada wo nobashi futo nagamereba nigiyakasu koe wa sokokashiko naraba koyoi wa yoi tsuki yo utsukushi inochi yo

When I casually stretch myself Lively voices raise from everywhere When like tonight the moon is so pleasant Life too is so beautiful

Translator's Notes

“砕月~イノチ~ / Broken Moon ~Life~”; well, it’s an arrange of Broken Moon, so of course Broken Moon is part of the title (?). About the “Life” part: in the song a lot of words are written in a way but pronounced as “Life”, and since I’m a lazy person and don’t want to put all the notes, I’ve always translated those words as “Life”.

“杯に落ちた月を呑む / I drink”; despite how weird it can sound… that’s what there’s written. After all a broken moon has to fall somewhere I guess… Aside this, I believe the “fallen moon” simply refers to the reflection of the moon inside the cup of sake. Just my guess though.

“あめつちに / While people”; not sure if this term can be translated as “nature”, but writing “in heaven and earth” made this phrase sounded even more odd. Hope this more liberal translation makes more sense-
