A '''Monk'''
A Buddhist '''monk''' ({{lang|ja|僧侶}}, ''sōryo'') is different to European monks in many different ways. Monks usually live in monasteries and temples. If a candidate wishes to become a Buddhist monk, they must complete a test. If they pass, they stay in their temple. If they do not pass, they are to leave. Local people donate food to the monks but monks are never allowed to ask for anything. The use of money is restricted and monks and never lead a fun life.

Some monasteries and temples accept female candidates however they are not called monks, they are nuns. Nuns are treated the same and equally to males respectfully.

In appearance, monks are bald and wear long robes.
