Mononobe no Futo (物部 布都) is a possible human whose ability is to use feng shui.
Concept
The Mononobe clan was a family who waged a fierce political battle with the Soga clan over Buddhism. In particular, Soga no Umako and Mononobe no Moriya were two very influential courtiers to Emperor Bidatsu and his brother, Emperor Youmei, who was the father of Prince Shoutoku. Both Youmei and Shoutoku were proponents of Buddhism, which led to victory for Umako, whose forces killed Moriya and his allies in the Battle of Shigisan in 587.
Of the Mononobe, there existed Futsuhime (布都姫), who was the little sister of Mononobe no Moriya. In the Nihon Shoki, she was Soga no Umako's wife, although her name was never mentioned there. But according to the book, Umako "gratuitously killed Moriya by carrying out his wife's plot". So, according to this account, Futsuhime was a collaborator to Soga clan and a traitor to the Mononobe, despite her lineage. Other historical documents tell different accounts. For example, in the Sendai Kuji Hongi, she was married to Emperor Sushun and later to Mononobe no Nieko no Muraji, who was Mononobe no Moriya's little brother and Futsuhime's half brother.
Name
Her surname is Mononobe (物部). 物 Mono means 'Thing' and 部 Nobe peans 'Part'. Her first name 布都 Futo means 'Capital Cloth'.
Appearance
In Ten Desires's official art, Momonobe no Futo has grey eyes, grey hair and is dressed in kariginu, modified with the addition of a purple skirt, with an eboshi atop her head. The kariginu was the standard dress of onmyouji, kannushi, and such, as well as that of the imperial court of the day.
Personality
In first person, she uses "wa" (an archaic word for "I") and in second person, "onushi," (an archic word for "you"). In her speech and conduct, she attaches "zo" to the end of her sentences, which is a little old-fashioned. Based on this, it would be no problem to think that she was probably born a long time ago, and that she has a certain aura of nobility, never saying anything wild or off-beat.
She says things which indicate that she might be clumsy or has a tendency to misunderstand others a little, which might make some of us make a certain guess, although since she has great destructive power so it is no problem.
- Whoever comes, she automatically completely misunderstands, thinking that they have come to her for a blessing in order to recover.
- When Reimu comes, she completely misunderstands, thinking that she has come to be an experimental subject for complete recovery.
- In the same way, she misunderstands Youmu's nature, thinking she is a shikaisen (dead nirvana hermit), and therefore thinks Youmus is a hermit even after the battle.
- In Sanae's case, she thinks Sanae has come to deliver her to heaven.
- After battle, she always makes the excuse that she has not shown her true strength.
- Since she is has revived to stop enemies from interfering with the Crown Prince's resurrection, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that her enemy is an intruder wanting to interfere with the resurrection.
- In Marisa's scenario, she says "it is most assuredly so" (isn't it?). And then she puts on a cute face.
- In Youmu's scenario, she says "onushi mo shikaisen... da na?" ("Art thou not also a shikaisen?") - a certain unfounded self-belief.
- In Reimu's scenario, she says "eh?" ("Hm?" in the translation) and in Youmu's scenario, she says "......eh?" ("... come again?" in the translation) and then she becomes candidly agitated.
- She occasionally goes out of character, like "stay a moment!" (in Marisa's scenario) and "mou ii desho" (meaning "wouldn't more be good?" - said when summoned by Miko).
Thus she is a manifestation of the "idiot child." Although there are various things that might have suggested it, phrases like "Futo-chan kawaii" have not been frequent.

Additional Information
Trivia
- She looks quite similar to Shingyoku's "male" form.
- Assuming Futo is Futsuhime, then she would be one of a few characters known to have been married. Of course, because a Touhou character is not necessarily one and the same as their historical or fictional basis, the only ones known to have canonically been married are Seiga Kaku, Watatsuki no Toyohime, and Watatsuki no Yorihime.
Fandom
- Perhaps due to her resemblance with Shingyoku's "male" form, some fans have joked that Futo is male, which is a similar situation to Wriggle Nightbug.
- In fanart, due to her characteristic pose in her portrait, she is often depicted as doing this same pose or different poses in a similar style.
