Notes
- ↑ The Onbashira festival (御柱祭) is a festival held every six years in the Lake Suwa area. Huge trees are cut into logs, which are then dragged downhill. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the logs are raised upright to symbolically support the Suwa Grand Shrine.
- ↑ Medoteko (目処梃子) (Picture): large, V-shaped branches that are attached to the logs during the Onbashira festival. People ride atop them as the logs are dragged downhill and raised up (video example).
- ↑ Tsutsugayu Shrine Ritual: One of the "Seven Wonders" of the Suwa Grand Shrine. A ritual in which reed tubes are placed in a mixture of water, rice and azuki beans, and are then cut open. The number of grains in a given tube foretells the success of a crop during the next harvest. (筒粥神事) - 筒粥神事 (Japanese), 五穀の筒粥 (Japanese)
- ↑ Misayama Hunting Shrine Ritual (御射山御狩神事) - A shrine ritual of Ontou-sai (御頭祭) hunting a deer whose head is dedicated to God. This ritual doesn't take place today. Instead of the head of the hunted deer, a stuffed one is used.
- ↑ Kuzui Clear Pond (葛井の清池) - One of the "Seven Wonders" of the Suwa Grand Shrine. On December 31st, tools or offerings used in the shrine over the previous year are plunged into the Kuzui Shrine pond. It's said that on the next day, January 1st, they rise back up in the Sanagi Pond in Shizuoka. 葛井の清池 (Japanese)
- ↑ The objects sunken into the pond on December 31st rise back up on January 1st, linking the end of one year to the start of the next. Much like the "torus" in the spell's name.
- ↑ One of the "Seven Wonders" of the Suwa Grand Shrine. Three drops of water are said to fall from the ceiling of the Tenryu Suisha (天流水舎) building every day, no matter what the weather is like. This water is known as "Otensui" (heavenly water). Crops watered with it will not die, and using it in prayers for rain ensures the prayers' success. 宝殿の天滴 (Japanese)
- ↑ The heavenly water in the Tenryu Suisha is said, in legends, to be the source of the Tenryu River (天竜川) leading out of Lake Suwa. 宝殿の天滴 (Japanese)
- ↑ kaji-mon (梶紋) - Crest of Suwa Shrine 梶紋(Japanese)
