Aya, Reimu and Marisa react as Remilia interrupts Reimu's fight against Patchouli in the Voile Library.

Musou Kakyou: A Summer Day's Dream (夢想夏郷 A Summer Day's Dream, "Fantasy Summer Land") is a fan-made animated video produced by MAIKAZE. The first of a projected three 20-minute episodes was released at Comiket 75 on December 29, 2008, on a DVD which includes English subtitles. Western Touhou fan KirbyM was credited with proofreading the translation. It is uncertain whether the remaining episode will ever be produced.

This animation project is notable for its use of high-ranking professional seiyuu (voice actors/actresses), although where MAIKAZE had the money or the connections to be able to hire these people is unknown. It was originally called "Touhou Anime Project", but shortly before Comiket 75, after ZUN expressed concern on his blog that the high-profile voice cast could make audiences mistake the series for an official Touhou product, Maikaze renamed it "Touhou Secondary Creation Doujin Anime".

On the 8th December 2010, MAIKAZE announced on their website that they are releasing a preview disc of Episode 2 at Comiket 79. The full episode was expected to be released at Comiket 81 in 2011, but was pushed to 2012 because it was still in production.

Episode 2 was released at Comiket 82, on August 11, 2012.

One night, a mysterious figure approaches the Hakurei Shrine, its shadow falling across the donation box.... The next morning, Reimu is preparing for the shrine's annual summer feast, but she is disappointed that only Suika showed up to help. Shortly after Suika leaves to go buy sake on Reimu's instructions, Reimu realizes the donation box is missing. She looks around everywhere, and gives up nearby the entrance, where unexpectedly, Aya is right next to her, finishing Reimu's sentence with "Stolen?". Reimu agrees, and then is surprised to find Aya. Aya asks "Who in Gensokyo would steal that donation box?", since the box is always bare with nothing inside it, but Reimu says it doesn't matter whether or not anything was inside. Aya then says she'll help her find the culprit, although Reimu figures she'd just take photos instead. Aya still flies off with the help of a spell card, and comes back immediately with Marisa.

Aya tells her about Reimu's missing donation box while Reimu walks away, and Marisa says she never stole it. Aya believes her, because Marisa had been helping her print her newspaper the entire previous day. Reimu tells them "Less talk, more search," and Aya agrees, although Marisa says she won't go help. Aya blackmails her by threatening to make Marisa's scandalous private photos public, and wonders how Reimu would react upon seeing them. Marisa is about to tell her she's dirty, but suddenly feels like she's being watched. As she turns around, a shadowy figure ducks behind a tree before Marisa can see it. After Aya and Marisa leave, Suika returns with the sake, but notices she's alone at the shrine.

At the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Aya is taking photos of a sleeping Hong Meiling, while Marisa asks Reimu why all three of them are at the Mansion looking for Reimu's donation box. Reimu says that Aya thought Patchouli seemed suspicious, and will be furious if Patchouli was using the box as a bookshelf. On a balcony, Remilia thinks back to earlier this morning, when Sakuya had told her that the mansion's supply of tea, wine and food had all disappeared in a single night. Remilia notices Reimu and Marisa entering the Mansion and is startled, like Reimu, by Aya's sudden appearance. Aya tells Remilia that Reimu and Marisa are just on an errand, and leaves her a Summer Extra Edition of the Bunbunmaru Newspaper. Remilia begins reading its front-page article.

In the Library, Patchouli is looking for something, but then realizes "trespassers" are nearby. Aya is surprised by the rare-looking books, and "realizes" why Marisa "borrows" them and never returns them, but Marisa tells Aya not to give people the wrong impression. Meanwhile, Reimu finds Patchouli and demands the return of the donation box, while in the background, Aya starts looking for the Bunbunmaru News in the library, and then starts talking about the printing technology of the Tengu, until she realizes out Marisa isn’t listening. Aya starts throwing the books, hitting Patchouli with one and causing her to fall down with a "Mukyu!". Reimu tells Patchouli to get up, since they were having a conversation. A furious Patchouli comes up, with the book that hit her on her head. On the Mansion's balcony, Remilia is still reading the paper, and learns that tonight's feast will be canceled in order to search for the Hakurei Shrine's recently-stolen donation box. Sakuya arrives with a cup of iced chocolate instead of tea, but Remilia suddenly remembers that Patchouli was saying that some of her books are missing. In the library, Patchouli casts Sun Sign: "Royal Flare", which Reimu dodges. She flies off to another part of the library, and throws ofuda as an attack. Patchouli counters by raising a magic wall from the earth, but Reimu kicks through it. She then uses Spirit Sign: "Fantasy Seal", but after the spellcard, she notices that Patchouli ran off. She hides behind one of the bookcases, until Sakuya unexpectedly materializes beside Patchouli and silences her by covering her mouth.

As Reimu is about to continue throwing ofuda at Patchouli, Remilia shows up on the library's balcony, wondering if it was true the donation box got stolen. She then tells Reimu that Patchouli is highly unlikely to be the culprit, since she's been looking for her missing books all that time and hasn't been out of the Mansion recently, and that Sakuya's tea and food supply also went missing the night before. Due to the fact all the items were stolen at the same day and time, Reimu declares the problem is another incident.

After the end credits, the narrator (Kikuko Inoue) claims the next episode would be called "Yukarin Is 17 Years Old!", but then says "Just kidding! To be honest, we haven't decided on a title yet. Oi! Oi!" Because Inoue has made a running joke of always saying she's 17 years old (when in fact she was 44 at the time of the first episode's release), she's implying that she will be playing Yukari in Episode 2.

Episode 2

The story resumes in Hakugyoukurou. Youmu acccuses Yuyuko of eating the entirety of the food for the upcoming banquet, of which Yuyuko replies that she only ate some. After Youmu leaves, Yuyuko goes outside to speak with an unseen Yukari, implying that they are involved in the current incident.

Meanwhile, Marisa locates Patchouli's missing book. Upon the retrieval, Patchouli finds it strange that she wasn't able to locate the book herself, surmising that the fact Marisa could find it with ease despite her own inability to do so may not be a coincidence. Marisa then feels a sense of Deja vu, and then hears a noise from the door. She opens the door to find Alice's doll on the ground outside. Worried about this, she goes off to presumably see Alice.

Panning back to Reimu talking to Remilia, Remilia concludes that both the supplies and Reimu's donation box disappeared on the same night. Reimu responds by breaking the 4th wall and telling her they already discovered that "last episode". Remilia then goes on a tangent about how great Sakuya is and Reimu sighs.

Meanwhile at Eientei, Tewi is ordering around the rabbits to make dessert for the banquet. Aya comes over and tries to advertise her newspaper dessert recipe, to which Tewi says she's too busy and is worried about running out of time to make dessert. Aya suggests using the watermelons in a river she saw near by, to which Tewi runs off to find. Inside Eirin's office, Eirin wonders where Tewi went while Kaguya is super tired from playing danmaku video games all night. Eirin asks Reisen to find Tewi.

In the next scene, Youmu is looking at a river wondering why her watermelons are missing. Tewi walks by with the watermelon in her hand and then realizes the watermelons belonged to Youmu, and dashes off with them, causing Youmu to pursue. Along the way Tewi meets up with Reisen and gives her the watermelon, only to see Youmu was still chasing her at full speed. Tewi grabs Reisen and they both run before Youmu's sword slash obliterates the pathway. They run into the garden of the sun, and Tewi splits up and ditches Reisen. Reisen, still holding the watermelon and no longer with Tewi, arrives at the edge of a forest into a clearing, only to have a sword impale the tree next to her head. Reisen asks if Youmu is trying to kill her and Youmu, out of breath, threatens to turn Reisen into rabbit stew. Youmu surrounds Reisen with her clones, and Reisen reluctantly unleashes her Lunatic Red Eyes, prepared to fight.

In a post credits scene, Reimu realizes she left Suika at home.

Episode 2.5

Marisa is flying over the Garden of the Sun looking for Alice when she spots her down below. However, after landing in the garden she gets lost instantly. She opts to use Alice's doll as a way to choose which direction to go in the garden's maze by letting it fall over and going in that direction. Cutting back to Reisen and Youmu, Reisen unleashes a spellcard of lasers, and Youmu responds by attacking with her swords, to which Reisen blocks using waves. Youmu is flung back wards but continues to shoot Danmaku at Reisen, prompting her to use a spellcard to become invisible. Youmu looks around trying to find Reisen, and senses something behind her only to find it was the watermelon. She looks above to see Reisen dramatically try and drop kick her, which prompts Youmu to rush head first into her attack. The collision creates a massive explosion over the Garden of the Sun and Marisa rushes over thinking it's Alice.

Meanwhile back at Eientei, Eirin and Tewi are waiting for Reisen to get back. Eirin is wondering what's taking her so long and asks Tewi if she knows anything, to which she lies that Reisen went out to find dessert, while she takes a bite of mochi. Eirin pauses and then states she will punish Reisen later.

Cutting back to the Garden of the Sun, Reisen and Youmu have crashed on top of each other. Youmu rolls Reisen off of her and franticly searches for the melon. She is shocked to find Yuyuko who has not only cut up the melon and is eating it, she is sitting on a mat with tables and an umbrella. Youmu asks her why she was even here, and Yuyuko says she had actually followed Youmu the whole time and was watching her fight while secretly cheering her on. Youmu breaks down into tears, considering herself a failure of a servant. Yuyuko then comforts her by hugging her and telling her to try and be less reckless. Marisa walks by while muttering in disappointment that the explosion was just Reisen. She then asks Yuyuko and Youmu why they are here. Yuyuko then ignores Marisa's question by asking her if she saw that girl go by, to which Marisa asks her if she means Alice. In a much more serious tone, Yuyuko warns Marisa that she should find Alice as soon as possible, and Marisa hurries off.

Night has fallen and Marisa sees in the distance that the area on top of the hill where the Hakurei Shrine is, has lit up.

In the post credits scene Reimu complains that she had no screen time.

Episode 3

The episode begins with a monologue of someone explaining how drinking at night can muddle memories, but some experiences can still be learned unconsciously. During this, the viewer sees the sliced melon from the last episode, and then the melon becomes whole again.

At Night, the Hakurei shrine is shown, and Aya is looking for her lost camera in the grass. She finds it and then notices a figure approaching the donation box and wonders if it is a thief.

The scene cuts to Marisa's house where Alice has arrived. Marisa is pondering that she feels like she can see the future as she felt Alice would visit. Alice bonks her on the head and tells her to act normal when a guest is over. She came over to help Marisa prepare for the Hakurei Banquet and wonders if this was something that was normally ever celebrated. She asks Marisa why she has newspapers all over her house, and Marisa says it was like this when she woke up. Alice hands Marisa a doll she made for her, and Marisa states she will use it for fireworks, to which Alice takes the doll back. Alice then notices a doll likes hers on a desk in the hallway. Confused, she walks over to it and picks it up. Marisa asks if the doll is Alice's and she says it not hers. Marisa wonders who else could have made it and mentions there's "alot more". Confused by this Alice looks to her right down the hallway only to see a mountain of dolls piled on top of each other. Alice, in shock, drops the doll she was holding and steps backwards. She then starts to have a panic attack and seems to remember something and stammers that she did make them. The screen goes black and cuts to Marisa close to her face with her hand on Alice's head. She asks Alice if she has a fever or something. All of a sudden, Aya barges in and takes Marisa with her to see Reimu, similar to the events of the first episode. While Aya is yelling at Marisa, Alice starts to have more visons and realizes "this is different from before" but cannot understand why or what happened "before".

The opening of the anime plays, however this time some of the scenes are played in reverse.

The scene opens with the Scarlet Devil Mansion, where Alice is looking for Marisa. She then finds Marisa and Patchouli talking about the missing book like in episode 1, and she listens from the door. Patchouli reveals the book is her diary and she wants to show only Marisa.

The diary begins showing Patchouli writing in her book on a rainy day. The next day it is sunny and Patchouli and Remilia are drinking tea. Sakuya reveals that the tea leaves went missing. Sakuya and Remilia leave to go to the Hakurei banquet which is tonight, and Patchouli finds it odd that she knew about this despite not being able to remember ever being told about the banquet. At night, Patchouli notices her astrology observations and the times are off from each other. While in a bath, Patchouli wonders how that could be. She starts to drift off to sleep. Suddenly, a scene of ice and alcohol are shown, and Patchouli snaps awake only to find herself at the table from what looks like the morning earlier, with Sakuya once again explaining that the tea leaves are gone. This time however, Remilia mentions it did not rain last night. Patchouli then looks at the empty tea leave jar with increasing concern.

Later, Patchouli explains to Sakuya that the reason there is no tea leaves is because they are consuming them everyday. Patchouli wonders who is doing this. Suddenly, the front door rings, and Sakuya goes to answer it. Patchouli turns away to think, only to look back and see Sakuya is collapsed on the floor unconscious. Patchouli rushes over and looks out the front door but sees no one. She then notices mist flowing in. Suddenly, Sakuya asks Patchouli if she is alright much to Patchouli's surprise. Patchouli asks her about the person at the door, however, Sakuya stares blankly and then creepily smiles saying that they were the only two people here for hours. The clock tower chimes and Sakuya runs off saying that the Hakurei Banquet is tonight, leaving Patchouli dumb struck.

The diary vison ends, and Patchouli concludes to Marisa that they have been repeating the same day over and over again, only slightly altered each time. She further concludes the mastermind of all this did not want Patchouli to find this book. Alice, over hearing all this, tries to call out to Marisa only to be knocked out by a unseen force.

The scene then cuts to Remilia in the foyer of the mansion. Patchouli asks where Sakuya went and Remilia says she and Reimu went out to look for the donation box. Remilia then says she's sad that the banquet was canceled. Patchouli then has a sudden realization that something is horribly off. She realizes that if they really are repeating the day over and over again, they must have held the banquet as well multiple times, and that something must be changing.

Suddenly, her train of thought is interrupted by the door bell ringing and Remilia walks over to open it. However, Patchouli grabs her by the arm to stop her and has a look of fear on her face.

The scene cuts to Reimu and Sakuya walking in the forest. As they are walking, Aya comes by and Reimu says that Aya is to blame for the Scarlet Devil Mansion's bad reputation. Sakuya then stops time and stabs Aya with knifes to incapacitate her. She proceeds to tie her up to interrogate her, and then Reimu notices a photo on the ground of the shrine. She picks it up and then realizes something and runs off.

The scene cuts to Marisa at the bottom of the stairs to the Hakurei Shrine at night similar to the end episode 2.5. Marisa questions if this is actually the shrine since the banquet was canceled but she can hear laughter and music from the top. When Marisa reaches the top, she is shocked to see the Shrine Gate and an uncountable amount of banquet related items that have multiplied and spread out into multiple paths like a tree that seem to stretch miles. Reimu then comes up as well and wonders how they are going to clean this mess up. Reimu then asks Marisa if she remembers why they were holding this banquet, but they cannot remember. Reimu then wonders aloud "How much change "she" was going to give her" and that she's going to ask her in person. The episode ends with Alice waking up but seemingly in a trance, as Suika appears behind her seemingly manipulating her.

In the post credits, Yukari jokes about how the next episode might be the last one for real.

Episode 4

The episode begins with Marisa knocking down Torii Gates with lasers in the now maze like shrine grounds. While doing this, Komachi in her boat goes by and Marisa sees a drunk and passed out Alice in the boat and chases after her. Then it flashes back to Marisa and Reimu discussing the plan and what was going on. Reimu realized that the day was repeating over and over again but no one could remember. The reason why her donation box was missing is because she herself moved it into the shed after it was full of money. She realized after seeing Aya's picture showing her do it. Reimu, now in the shed, finds it now filled with duplicate items and the money. Marisa comes in and Reimu explains all this. Then suddenly she feels mist and turns around to see its not Marisa behind her, but Suika. She then realizes something is wrong, as Suika is wearing a wind chime on her horn, and more importantly, she has no shadow except for the wind chime. She realizes this isn't Suika and the Suika look-a-like transforms into a green pallet color swap of Suika.

A flash back plays to the rainy day for when they originally planned for the banquet. Unfortunately due to the rain, Reimu gives up on the banquet and out of desperation, she wishes into the ornate Mirror in her shed for good fortune. Marisa then comes over with fire works, and she and Reimu leave Suika in the shed to go get tea. Suika then wakes up the next morning and finds the green Suika look alike known as Melon, who apparently is friends with Suika from before Suika entered Gensokyo. It turns out Melon came out from the mirror after hearing Reimu's wishes. Suika catches up on life and complains how Reimu isn't that into the banquet and the two devise a plan, where Suika gives Melon some of her power and she disguise herself as Suika. She also then creates an endless summer day while Suika gathers people for the banquet using her power from Immaterial and Missing Power. This means the Suika from the previous episodes was actually Melon.

Back to the present, Marisa finds Alice face down drunk in a puddle of water, and Marisa shakes her to wake her up. Alice, in her drunken state, sobs about how she's alone with only her dolls, and Marisa says "How can I go without you?!" which causes Alice to become sober and is deeply moved. However, Marisa then adds that she needs Alice to make the dolls for the fireworks and that together they make the ideal fireworks, which leaves Alice dumb struck. Then all the lights along the shrine maze's path lights up, and Marisa and Alice find themselves in the middle of a lively banquet with souls walking around them. Marisa then sees Yuyuko, Youmu, Eirin, Kaguya, and a unsettling Reisen with a hole for a face, all enjoying themselves at the banquet, while Patchouli and Remilia walks by behind them.

The scene cuts back to Reimu and Melon having a stand off as the shed dissipates around them revealing a misty clearing. Reimu then intends to defeat Melon to end the incident and charges at her, causing multiple explosion's of mist to go off. Melon then turns big and tries to crush Reimu but she dodges and attempts to seal her which creates a massive explosion. However, Melon then transforms into a blue Reimu known as BLU Reimu dual wielding Goheis, and tells Reimu this incident is her fault because of the wish she made.

BLU Reimu and Reimu fight with glowing Goheis.

BLU Reimu then shoots Danmaku at Reimu and they proceed to clash their Goheis which are now glowing like lightsabers. Reimu is shot down into the ground, and as she tries to get up, BLU Reimu crushes her into the ground with one foot. She then creates a ball of energy while pinning Reimu down and prepares to shoot her at point blank range. She is then interrupted by a Master spark which creates a massive pillar of light. The camera then pans over to Marisa holding Alice with one arm, and a smoking Mini-Hakkero in the other, as well as a yakitori stick in her mouth and she says "Danmaku is all about firepower!".

The episode ends on this cliff hanger.
