Mystia Lorelei is a little Night Sparrow with an egocentric personality - at least she sounds arrogant - that enjoys infusing confusion and terror into the hearts of humans using her ability: a song that creates confusion in those who hear her. Her song seems to attract nearby monsters as well. She roams a road near the Human Village that Keine tries to protect, in search of humans to frighten. She is indeed feared by the locals as people around her become blinded by darkness.
Story
During the events of Phantasmagoria of Flower View, Mystia aimlessly wanders around singing, hoping to catch and eat humans attracted by the flowers. Instead, she attracts (or rather, annoys) the other protagonists and ends up fighting each in turn.
Other Information
Name and Concept
- The "Lorelei" part of her name most likely is a reference to a German poem about the siren Lorelei, that also had a mesmerizing song.
Trivia
- Mystia's self-confidence makes her one of the only enemies that attacks as a midboss but does not run away to recover when defeated the first time, while another character who also does not run away after defeat is Yuugi Hoshiguma. Instead, Mystia immediately launches into another attack, firmly believing that she will win.
- She was featured on the cover of the Imperishable Night "trial plus" disk.
- She hates Yakitori (grilled chicken on sticks) because she is a kind of bird. So she started a grilled lamprey stand instead of a Yakitori stand. (It was believed that lampreys had eight eyes and are able to cure night blindness.) She uses this as part of a con-act: she will travel with her stand at night, use her power to make unwary travelers night-blind, then sell them grilled lamprey, and slowly remove the effect as they eat it, claiming that the lamprey was what cured them.
- Mystia is also apparently a skillful cook, since even Aya concedes that her grilled lampreys taste good. In many fanworks, her stand is also very popular with people, especially heavy eaters like Suika, Yukari and Yuyuko.
- From Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, Mystia says that she cannot read the tiny letters on the newspaper. Aya takes this as Mystia admitting that she cannot read.
- In Oriental Sacred Place Chapter 13, Mystia is shown to have the ability to read but somewhat struggles in it.
Fandom
- Even though the "ti" part of "Mystia" is supposed to be 「ティ」, many fans have found it more convenient to represent it by 「ち」 (pronounced "chi") instead. Thus, Mystia's name is commonly abbreviated 「みすちー」 or 「みすち」 ("misuchi" or perhaps "Misty") instead, which has become a nickname of sorts.
- Even though her songs are meant to scare and confuse humans, in many fan works she is depicted happily singing with a graceful voice, sometimes viewed with a microphone. It is also common to find her alongside the Prismriver Sisters in fan works, where the four makes up a band in which she serves as the main singer.
- In fan works, she is often seen with other lower level, childish characters such as Cirno, Rumia, and Wriggle Nightbug, making up Team 9.
- She gets "eaten" by Yuyuko Saigyouji of the Ghost team in Imperishable Night's story mode, making her a popular "joke character" as she's usually pictured as food. Even ZUN mocks her in his spell card comments.

Mystia Lorelei
Stage 2 boss. A Night Sparrow. Has the ability to drive people mad with her song. Seeing as humans have only heard her cry, her true form is unknown. From her cry she's called a sparrow, but it's hard to say if she is actually a sparrow. As humans don't know her form, they fear her, and it's unclear what they would think if they saw her. She's known to give humans night-blindness (an illness where one's eyesight degenerates a lot in dark places) to hide her form. |

Stage 2 Boss, Night Sparrow
Mystia Lorelei Species: Night Sparrow Stage 2 Boss. In addition to her song of confusion, she can make people night-blind. Humans call her the Night Sparrow, but few have ever seen her appearance. This is because she only plays during nighttime, and humans around her become blinded by darkness anyway. Had they seen what she actually looks like, they probably wouldn't have called her a sparrow. Her song can cloud a person's judgment; humans who walk into the night in that condition inevitably disappear without a trace. This confusion ability is the main reason people lose their way at night so easily. She can also make people night-blind in order to hide better within the darkness. |

Book Synopsis
Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red

Mystia has started a new business. Even though yakitori (grilled chicken) stands are popular, Mystia decided to make a grilled lamprey stand instead. Lampreys improve night vision and are good for night-blindness. Because Mystia causes night-blindness with her songs, humans that have been affected by her are subtly pressured into eating her lampreys. She also sings for them while they eat, which may not be appreciated considering the effect. The lampreys don't actually work that well or that fast though, Mystia just releases the night-blindness effect from the customers and pretends it was the food that did it.
Mystia was the first one who had no interest in the article written about her. It's at least partly because she can't read. Aya didn't like the fact that Mystia is cheating customers with that trick, but did agree that the food was good and grilled lampreys should be more popular than grilled chicken.
