Translation
Ohhh, pretty! It's a shower of shining cherry petals.
If it weren't for the whole 'hurts to touch them' thing, we could have a great flower-viewing here.
I'd be in it for the sake more than the flowers, though.

桜の花吹雪だけど、時々梅の花が混ざって来るね
ひょっとしたら導命樹が梅の樹なのかな
分かんないから適当書いて余白埋めるか
Translation
It's supposedly a shower of cherry petals, but there's plum petals mixed in here and there too.
Could the Life-Guiding Tree actually be a plum tree...?
I dunno either way, so I may as well write whatever just to fill up space.

桜の花びらが雲の上から舞い落ちている!
伝説の地である霊霄殿(れいしょうでん)は本当に実在するのか!?
うん、どうでもいい事も見出しを工夫すれば凄そうになるのね
Translation
Cherry petals are fluttering down from beyond the clouds!
Does Reishouden, the legendary place, really exist?!?![2]
...Yep, even boring stuff can sound totally awesome if you cook up a good headline.

Earthquakes, thunder, fire, fathers... calling forth scary stuff is a Great Tengu's specialty.

水を操る術は便利ね、密度を加減するだけで雨にも滝にもなる
この間は緑の巫女が雨乞いをしていた時にたまたま試し撃ちして
神社の連中を喜ばせちゃったんだけどねー
Translation
Water magic sure is useful. You can make rain or a waterfall or whatever, just by controlling the density.
Although this one time, she gave it a test run right as that green shrine maiden was doing some rain prayers,
and everyone down at the shrine wound up getting all excited over it.

本当は真水の筈なのになぜか塩辛いわ。新しい異変の予感?
Translation
An ocean suddenly appeared in Gensokyo! It burst forth in an instant, with no warning whatsoever!
Turned out it was actually 'cause of the waterfalls coming down from the tree to power the turbines.
This stuff should be fresh water, though. But it's salty! Signs of an upcoming incident, perhaps?[6]

Translation
The season, 12X! The land of Gensokyo was engulfed in nuclear flames!
It seemed as though all forms of life were annihilated. However, only youkai struggled to survive!
...Yeah, okay, I should probably tone down the hype a few notches.

We make ourselves hard to see, then mug humans who've done evil deeds!
It's super useful for lots of other stuff, too. Like sneaking candid photos, or sneaking candid photos... oh! Not to mention sneaking candid photos.

Ahh, this is that high-tech optical camouflage stuff.
She saw the kappa using it, and threw a big fit all like "no faaair, I want that too!".
Not that I can make a public article out of that, though.

自分の姿は決して見せずに、雷火や疫病で都を震え上がらせたらしいわ
人間は見えない物、正体が分からない物に恐怖するもんね
そんな昔から性格悪かったんだなー、あの方は
Translation
Apparently she terrorized the capital city with, like, lightning and diseases without ever showing herself.
Humans are terrified of stuff that they can't see or fully understand, after all.
Man, Her Highness has had that bad personality for a while now, huh?

The Great Tengu's books are SO boring.
You've gotta make it, like, more pew pew and kaboom, or else it's totally not interesting.

大天狗様が前世で書いた本らしいわ
墨じゃなくて血で書かれてる、この頃からアレなお方だったんだなぁ
なんか爆発したりするけど、ストックは沢山あるから良いんだって
Translation
Apparently, the Great Tengu wrote this book in her past life.
It's written in blood instead of ink. Guess she's always been kind of nuts, even way back when.
Also they kind of, uh, explode and stuff? But she says it's fine 'cause there's plenty in reserve.

「迦楼羅天舞」("Karura Tenbu")
"Garuda's Heavenly Dance" [11]
Owner

迦楼羅はガルーダとも言って、インド神話の鳥神よ
大天狗様も自分の格を高く見せたくて必死なんだねえ
食吐悲苦鳥(じきとひくちょう)って情けない別名があるのは黙っとこっと
Translation
The Karura is also known as the Garuda, which is a Hindu bird god!
I guess even the Great Tengu must be pretty desperate to make her status look higher.
He's also called Jikito-hiku-chou sometimes, but the kanji read as, like, 'food-vomiting agony bird'? Ew. Let's not mention that in front of her.

まぁ鷲の姿になって追いかけて来るんだけどね!
Translation
BEHOLD! This brilliant, golden light is the Great Tengu's true strength!
She'll curse anything and everything that moves, so all you can do now is run!
Too bad she'll just turn into an eagle and chase you down, though!

Notes

  1. 八重裏梅 (yae-ura-ume, "double-flowered reverse plum") and 星梅鉢 (hoshi-umebachi, "star-shaped potted plum") are Japanese family crests. 梅星 (umeboshi, "plum star") is an inversion of the latter, and a play on the identically-pronounced food Umeboshi. 綺羅 refers to beautiful fabric, and 綺羅星 refers to a beautiful array of something reminiscent of a row of stars.
  2. A reference to the stage 4 subtitle in Perfect Cherry Blossom.
  3. 3.0 3.1 Yasoba-no-shimizu is a spring in Sakaide, Kagawa where Emperor Sutoku's body is said to have been preserved for 21 days after his death. A temple to him has been built there as well.
  4. 4.0 4.1 One of the seaweeds used to make tokoroten is called tengusa (天草).
  5. A reference to the Waterfall of Nine Heavens, as well as the Buddhist realm where Tenma is said to live (六天 / "sixth heaven").
  6. Possibly a reference to Marine Benefit.
  7. 7.0 7.1 Reference to the Great Fire of Angen, a massive fire within Heiankyou that occurred in the Angen era.
  8. 天夢流星伝 (tenmu ryuusei den): a pun on 天魔流星伝 (tenma ryuusei den), the subtitle of the RPG Hokuto no Ken 5.
  9. 9.0 9.1 9.2 9.3 Emperor Sutoku wrote copies of the Five Mahayana Sutras while in exile towards the end of his life, which he sent to be preserved in Kyoto. Fearing that the scriptures (written in blood, according to some accounts) were cursed, officials sent them back in tatters. Sutoku then bit his own tongue off in fury, wrote curses on the sutras in his blood, and grew his hair and nails out wildly for the remainder of his life.
  10. 魔道エコー (madou ekō) is a pun on part of the phrase Sutoku wrote on the sutras in his blood: "I read these sutras in dedication to the path of evil." / この経を魔道に回向す (kono kyou wo madou ni ekousu).
  11. 11.0 11.1 天舞 ("heavenly dance") is pronounced "tenbu", a possible pun on "Tenmu".
