I'm not sure if it's a uniform or what, but I feel like the trends in Tengu society's fashion would be quite similar to one another. The same is true with kappa, and maybe even many other social groups would want to dress in a similar manner. And well, Hatate's a shut-in writer, but perhaps people like her are more concerned about how others view them.

Her skirt pattern is reminiscent of a Galapagos[1] cell phone. There do exist Galapagos phones with this design, actually (haha). Come to think of it, I don't think I see anyone taking pictures with a Galapagos phone anymore...

I wanted to draw a background for this one! I knew what I wanted to go for since the beginning, but I was concerned plenty of times for just the composition of the character. In the end, I finally got Hatate to look like she was actually landing on the tree.

Likewise, the autumn leaves look so good on Youkai Mountain! That's my opinion, at least. I took some inspiration from Mountain of Faith for this.

Personality

Personality
A crow tengu that first appeared in Double Spoiler. Like other tengu, she lives on Youkai Mountain and publishes her own newspaper. Her newspaper is called "Kakashi Spirit News", and it seems that it's mainly composed of photos taken using her thoughtography ability. Unlike Aya, who makes full use of old film-based cameras, Hatate makes use of an old-fashioned mobile phone, known as a "Galapagos Phone".

The tengu were competing with each other for the circulation of their newspapers, and of course, her rival was Aya Shameimaru, the publisher of Bunbunmaru Newspaper. Hatate, on the other hand, tends to seclude herself because she has no need to interview anyone thanks to her ability, and was thus worried that the contents of her newspaper weren't fresh. That's why, in Double Spoiler, she went to investigate the secrets of Bunbunmaru Newspaper, which was had an appeal that Hatate felt could not be found in her own newspaper.

  1. "Gara-kei" (ガラケー) is a compound word derived from "Galapagos" and "keitai-dawa" (携帯電話, lit. "mobile phone"), and is used to refer to traditional Japanese-styled feature phones.
