Lycoris

In Japan, lycoris is believed as "dead persons' flower". Also, Mary has the ability of seeing the boundaries, including that of netherworld. Though, Mary isn't Japanese, why does she hate this flower? If she came from somewhere in Europe, she could enjoy arranging or something.

Mary may not be Japanese, but she appears very knowledgeable about Japanese culture, and even seems to share some Japanese traits. Could either be another link between her and Lafcadio Hearn, or just a Japanese stereotype of foreigners in Japan. Incidentaly, lycorises are known in Japan as Higan flowers, the same ones from Phantasmagoria of Flower View. --Nietz 19:39, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

Why is the original title erased or put behind?

On the current edition, the original, Japanese titles are erased, and translation is replaced. I think this wiki has the official data highly important. Template:MusicArticle seems to me to be adapted for making doujin CD articles. So the items of "title of music" and "title of original music" live together on it. But if "title of doujin track" is first, "translation of title of doujin track" is second, and "title of inspiring, original track" is after them, ZUN's works should follow that style. --masuo64 Talk 05:20, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Music Names

I was looking around and I noticed that some names should have other translated names like:

Track 01: Wandering about a Ghostly Field in the Night should be Evening Dies on Dendera Fields.

Track 03: Eastern Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple should be Mystical Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple.

Track 06: Merry the Magician should be Merry Magician.

I think that would be the proper names of the musics.

In fact I think your new titles are irrelevant too. Track one should be something like Going/Dying though the Dendera Fields in the Night (this is making a pun of 行く [go] and 逝く [die] referencing the Denderano). And for track three, I think using the original Japanese in romaji is the best (Touhou Youyoumu ~ Ancient Temple), since this is the proper main game's title and there aren't any particular meaning to it. As for track six, I don't think it's sounding right, could you explain your reason of that suggestion?--Doncot (talk) 06:03, 19 August 2012 (EDT)
Track 3, along with any other (Touhou) OOO title, needs to be consistent with the game's title translation. This includes 東方妖々夢 ~ Ancient Temple (PCB), 東方萃夢想/萃夢想 (IaMP), 永夜抄 ~ Eastern Night (IN), 花映塚 ~ Higan Retour (PoFV), 東方緋想天/緋想天 (SWR), 妖精大戦争 ~ Fairy Wars (FW). All of the aforementioned titles reference the game titles. If the game title translation and the music title are different, they need to be unified, or the reference will be lost upon English fans.
Renaming all of them to the Japanese title is an alternate solution. I'm not very enthusiastic about it though as, while the objective of clearly connecting to the game title will be made, the meaning will be lost. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 00:24, 20 August 2012 (EDT)
Oh, and as renaming to Touhou OOO would affect multiple titles, plus change a translation precedent, I would recommend posing the suggestion on the main page talk for discussion if desired. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 00:30, 20 August 2012 (EDT)
Camilo113 wrote "Eastern Oriental Dream" instead of "Eastern Mystical Dream", which is what is written on the page. I just want to make sure that he is aware of this since his proposed translation change seems pointless in light of this. Arcorann (talk) 03:19, 20 August 2012 (EDT)

Personally, I think this is fine because the meaning isn't that much important here - in fact it's being too literate IMO. For example, 東方緋想天 is always Touhou Hisouten to me and not "Eastern Sky of Scarlet Perception" (東方いの). It's a made-up compound word and forcibly translating by breaking up the kanji looks weird to me (what does 緋想天 mean anyway? It's a pun of 非想天 [Bhavaagra] and not a legit Japanese). Regardless, I'm not insisting on the change, and since I've received an opposition I'll drop it here for now. Oh and yes, like I've mentioned, the current (and Camilo's) title of track 01 is mistranslated so it needs to be fixed.--Doncot (talk) 05:12, 20 August 2012 (EDT)
If the primary reference is to the title, then I wouldn't be completely opposed to Touhou Youyoumu ~ Ancient Temple, but I do think that there may be opposition elsewhere. Coming from an English fan, I was initially unable to appreciate that Mystic Oriental Dream was supposed to reference the Japanese title of the same game. Furthermore, a previous TL of 永夜抄 was in fact Imperishable Night, 花映塚 used to be Kaeidzuka, so some history exists. Unifying them to Japanese also solves any headaches resulting from multiple changes to game title translations. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 15:28, 20 August 2012 (EDT)
So, we're gonna change the titles of the musics?. The Track 01 I mean (Wandering about a Ghostly Field in the Night to ???), and if we're gonna change it, wich title must be instead of the other?. Oh, and I made a mistake writing the name of Track 03 wich was Eastern Mystical Dream instead of Eastern Oriental Dream. ^^" Sorry...
The Track 06 I'm a bit confused if it's Merry Magician or Merry the Magician.
--Camilo113 (talk) 21:14, 22 August 2012 (EDT)
I'll change track1 to my suggestion. Any opposition to this page please.--Doncot (talk) 03:03, 23 August 2012 (EDT)
Merry Magician is incoherent, as is "Obama President". Either Merry the Magician, or Magician Merry makes sense. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 18:02, 23 August 2012 (EDT)

夜のデンデラ野を逝く

It looks like the translation of this theme was changed, but there was no discussion about it on the talk page. From the outset, I think this change is a good one that captures the wordplay present in the original Japanese without the clunkiness of 'dying.' Still, it would probably be good if in future edits like this were first discussed on the talk page just so we can get a bunch of suggestions and opinions first! On my end, I think the capitalisation should be changed to 'Passing on Through the Dendera Fields in the Night'. If we wanted to make it even shorter, we could go with 'Passing on Through the Dendera Fields at Night' but it's really only a minor thing. Biggest Dreamer (talk) 09:02, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
