A couple of things. First, I think that "Faith that Surmounted the Sea" doesn't really give the right impression; I think "Faith that Transcended the Sea" might be better. Besides that, does 符陣 really mean 'troop'? I tried looking it up, and all I got was that it was some kind of skill used to create space, or something. I really haven't a clue about that one.Flan27 (talk) 01:42, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Now that you mention it, "transcended" is definitely clearer. Thank you. As for 符陣... uh, I have no idea either. 符 is what's usually translated as "Sign" (as in "Water Sign", "Dream Sign", etc.) and 陣 is a battle formation or troop, but I have no idea what they would mean together. It certainly doesn't come up as a Japanese word in any of the dictionaries I'm checking. Since I'm not sure what it is, though, I'll put a it as a blank space for now instead of sticking "Troop" in there. Gilde (talk) 03:54, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
The only thing I've found is this page, which seems to talk about this manga series which seems to be based on this Chinese novel. It might possibly originate from that novel. By the way, I think the use of 陣 here is closer to it's use in the word 魔法陣, which is what made the 'troop' translation seem so bizarre. Flan27 (talk) 18:38, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
The "魔法陣" context does make much more sense, now that I think about it. Googling the term gave me a ton of Chinese results, although I still haven't found it in any actual dictionaries (Japanese or Chinese). Most of the search results are articles on magic squares and equipment formations from online games, plus several actual magic circles (like the ones being posted in this forum thread). I'm guessing 符陣 basically just means "magic square" (or magic circle, or magic formation, etc)... in Chinese, that is. Would something like "formation" or "array" work as a translation, then? Gilde (talk) 19:22, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
I guess you could say that the term literally means array(陣) with symbols(符), which fits your average "magic circles with nonsense symbols on the outside" archetype pretty well. I think plain old "Magic Circle" would be a good translation, because the danmaku is actually in the shape of a circle, but your examples were good too. I'll leave it up to you. I'd like to request the translations for Hatate's comments to continue.¨¨;
