== Illustration by ZUN ==

OK... On Danbooru, there's seems to be images officially drawn by ZUN and I'm curious why they are not on the wiki, I've also manage to found a [http://lily-black.net/th-95.html website] that seems to somewhat have a list of these images and are linked to ZUN's old website, there seems to be more images on the website than on danbooru. Discuss? --[[User:Tony64|Tony64]] 14:44, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
:Yeah, there are some illustrations by ZUN that were never uploaded to the wiki. Most of them can still be found at his site if you use the [http://web.archive.org/ web archive]. [[User:Master Bigode|Master Bigode]] 17:02, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

== Books backcovers ==

*[[/Subpage structure|Subpage structure]]
I own most of the official touhou printworks(Except Inaba of the Moon and the semi-official fanbook), and all the official windows touhou shooter games up to now. I updated a few book covers, mainly for the three fairies series, but I was wondering if there was a way to get to show the backcover of the books without being invasive in the pages. Uploading it together with the frontcover in the preview picture makes it very stretched and small. I could upload the backcovers of the books as well as those of the games. :I'm OK with the additions, but the images are a little too big file size-wise for something that is used for illustrative purposes only. If possible, try to keep their file size under 500kb. [[User:Master Bigode|Master Bigode]] 20:32, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

::They're big but I'm thinking it won't be a problem, since you normally see them already resized (and resized images are cached anyway).  [[User:Momiji|Momiji]] 21:04, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

:::What Momiji said. Just to specify; the thumbnail pictures are under 50kb, and the preview pictures(When you click on the thumbnail), are under 150kb. You only get the bigger file size if you decide to check the full resolution version, in which case I think the quality is a good thing to have. Unless the wiki's hosting can't handle the size of the images. If that's really a problem, I can either resize them or lower their quality. [[User:Sefam|Sefam]] 21:40, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

:For certain things it's best.  For images with smooth color gradients (like photographs, in general) JPEG is best.  For images with lots of repeating patterns and whatnot, in places you'd previously use GIF for, or if you need transparency support, use PNG.  [[User:Momiji|Momiji]] 16:42, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

I swear to whatever deities you believe in, if I catch anyone here putting that sort've crap up there you're getting a permanent ban without room for negotiation.  Seriously.  It's really uncalled for, and I've made it more than clear we disproved of it.  [[User:Momiji|Momiji]] 15:59, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Yep, the images have been removed, but the links are still there. Guess it's better this way. Oh, and the only reason I went there is because it still pops up first on Google when I search for Touhou related stuff. [[User:MoonRabbit|MoonRabbit]] 16:34, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

VS3025 wrote up a pretty non-biased [http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Touhou_Wiki:About About page], detailing the history of the two wikis.  I'd say at this point, at least between the two wikis, the hatchet is officially buried.  [[User:Momiji|Momiji]] 05:29, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

As much as I dislike on how things went down, that's going too far and the way I see it is we must not make a big deal on what's occurring at wikia because that just feeds the trolls and reactions really doesn't help us here.

So... in that regard I'm with you guys.
It's over and that's all that really needs to be said about it
No need to spam for us on our account because what that does is just makes us look bad and we don't stand for it.

== Funny Party in the fog translation ==

__TOC__
Hello.  I've recently discovered a fantastic CD via youtube.com called "Funny Party in the fog".  I would like to know what the lyrics are in English (Romaji and English preferably) so I've been going around and asking people how I could get these songs translated.  Since this is the Touhou hub of the west, I figured this would be a good place to ask around.  If I've asked in the wrong area, please forgive me.  I've never joined a wiki community before.  Thanks for any help that can be given. {{unsigned|Flanchan}}
:The article for it is [[Funny party in the Fog|here]], but as you can see, no lyrics are up yet. Maybe someone who owns a copy will add the lyrics some day. If you add the red links to your watchlist (click the star at the top of the page, near the edit button), and enable e-mail notifications in your preferences, you'll be notified via e-mail that those pages have been edited. == Collapsible section extension ==
Thank you for the response.  I'll keep an eye on the page.  I'm currently looking around for someone who can translate the CD (or at least song 4...so amazing), so if I get any translations before touhouwiki.net does, I'll be sure to share.  --[[User:Flanchan|Flanchan]] 04:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

The "Official Profile" section of some characters are getting really long, but not everyone who comes here searching for information reads them. I think making them collapsed by default would be great, to minimize page length and distraction. However, both the collapsible table trick and the NavFrame trick didn't work on content with subsections in them. Something like [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ShowHide ShowHide] or [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ToggleDisplay ToggleDisplay] would help a lot. Can some of the admin install it?[[User:Jimreynold2nd|Jimreynold2nd]] 04:13, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
As a follow up to my post, I can't find anywhere online to BUY the CD. I've found youtube videos and a few download sites, but I want to OWN the CD. It's that epic. The only thing is I don't speak Japanese and the English sites that have Japanese stuff (Touhou in particular) don't carry it. Any suggestions?--[[User:Flanchan|Flanchan]] 05:23, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
:You'll get a faster response if you post this at [[User Talk:Chloe|Chloe]]'s talk page. [[User:Master Bigode|Master Bigode]] 04:26, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

::I just had a look at [[Reimu]]'s page, and having the show/hide there has removed the sections from the table of contents. I'm not sure this is such a good idea... especially since if you want to skip past them you can just click "4 Book Synopsis" in the ToC, or just keep hitting pagedown/spacebar. [[User:Keiji|Keiji]] 10:24, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
:::I see that as an advantage. My rationale: (1-about ToC) Not many people read the official profiles, at least not as much as the general information/story/fandom above it (and soon there will be "Spellcards" section). And thus, it should not occupy more space on the ToC than the other, more popular content. The fact that the pages are being restructured (not yet for Reimu), and the ToC would have more than just "General" and "Fun facts" further supports this. (2-about hiding) The "Official profiles" part serves mostly as a reference, people read it mainly when they are looking for it, thus it should not occupy more space on a page than information people come to "read" when they want to find out who Reimu is in general; and as such it makes perfect sense to hide it. The problem is not "going to the Book Synopsys section", but rather "The page is too long". [[User:Jimreynold2nd|Dory]] 21:20, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
::::I don't think not including a section of a page that you deem "unpopular" is ever good. Imagine if a law book omitted sections of the book from the TOC because they figured it was "unpopular". --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 00:07, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm personally OK with the show/hide thing, but I think that the show/hide message is too small. [[User:Master Bigode|Master Bigode]] 00:16, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
:^This. It should stand out a little more. At the very least the text shouldn't be so small. <font face="Comic Sans MS">[[User:Pufferfish101|Pufferfish]][[User talk:Pufferfish101|101]]</font> 13:18, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
:Thinking a little about it, the size of the message shouldn't be an issue if we only hide the profiles, but not the section headings. That would fix the TOC issue too. [[User:Master Bigode|Master Bigode]] 20:55, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
::Why would someone put the section headings ''inside'' the toggle tags is beyond me. Is there any way to include the toggledisplay in some help file, and mention how it affects header behavior? [[User:Anatole serial|Anatole serial]] 18:36, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

=== Incomplete profiles ===
After watching several of our community members make patched games (such as [[User:Lucky Charat|Lucky Charat]] and [[User:RegalStar|RegalStar]]) I'm interested to get in the mix!

What do we do with official profiles that don't appear to be complete? ie: Meirin's IaMP profile. It would be harder to see what is done or not done if we just hid them --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 21:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

== Our own TH RPG ==
Don't worry about the actual translations themselves, I just want to be able to make the files responsible to make this happen.

So I was bored and thought maybe we can produce our own RPG using RPGmaker or something. Graphics, story, scripts, dialog; it would require effort from all sorts of people --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 18:53, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
So, any one willing to help me out?
:There are at least 3 or 4 people at [http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php MotK] who can make music, as well as a considerable number of people who can draw. ::I just started RPG maker yesterday but I feel I can make something from start to finish even if it's only 5 minutes long lol. Make a design so flexible that we can just insert it into a story and it'll still make sense! --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 13:50, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

:First off, if you ask a generic question like "how do I create patch", chances are you're probably pretty far away from creating one.

::Making an RPG is no easy task. I've seen too many projects that started but never finished...<font face="Comic Sans MS">[[User:Pufferfish101|Pufferfish]][[User talk:Pufferfish101|101]]</font> 06:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
:Applying external modifications to a compiled application is just one area of "hacking", and thus requires a comprehensive knowledge on how the program in question, and programs in general, operate. And as every program, and therefore every patch, is different, there's also no "surefire way" to create a patch.
:::Same. Though, that's usually cause the developers had too much on their plates with worldly matters and couldn't do it anymore. Or got bored. On the other hand, what if we made it so that everyone could freely contribute? Source code would be available to all so that even when the main coders aren't available others would still be able to continue development. We take our wiki and extend it to a game. --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 13:50, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
:Incidentally, I've been hacking [[Touhou Mother]] to make more characters playable. That was mainly over Christmas though, and I haven't had time to work on it since... and goodness, the original code is ''awful'' from a programmer's perspective. It doesn't help that RM2k is not at all easy to work with in terms of scripting. [[User:Keiji|Keiji]] 10:21, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
::I am not sure what engine we should use. Does anyone have any preferences? I got RMXP cause that seemed pretty popular although a lot of people seem to be using VX instead. After 5 hours of fooling around I figured out enough of the basics to get some game logic going and just started to look at RGSS scripting lol <small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by [[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] ([[User talk:Tsukihime|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Tsukihime|contribs]]) 13:50, 7 February 2011 (UTC)</small>
:::I've heard from a friend of mine who's experienced with the various RM versions that XP is actually better than VX, apparently for the sake of being "idiot friendly" they took out some useful things when they made VX. But I haven't personally used anything but 2k. [[User:Keiji|Keiji]] 18:10, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
::::I stuck to XP because of the ability to change battle backgrounds on the fly. With VX, changing backgrounds during the battle is pretty difficult (if not impossible). Especially for a touhou-themed game, I can't imagine how you would show that a boss is using a Last Word spell card or not if you used the same background for everything! But there are a lot of nice scripts available for XP. Can you believe this is scripted in RPG maker? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQwViGmy8Ao. Well aside from the fact that XP has been out longer than VX and therefore logically would have more scripts, there are a lot of people that are split between "should I go do everything for this new script-engine or not?" --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 05:09, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
:::::For XP, I'm not surprised, XP was a huge overhaul. But as for "changing backgrounds during the battle", I will just point out that Touhou Mother doesn't use RM's built-in battle system at all - it uses a map for the battle screen, "events" for each digit and player name/sprite and "Pictures" for the enemy sprites and the entire menu (S-chan was obviously using a modded RM2k for this, because he goes up to Picture #50 - I had to ResHack my copy to get it to work).
:::::Anyway, that specific case aside, I'd wager it's easier to just make your battle scene like this using a map than to do it in an actual RM2k battle - RM2k battles aren't even Turing-complete (though are annoyingly close to it!).
:::::Plus when it comes down to it it'd probably just be easier to use Game Maker (I like to be retro and stick with 5.3A, but while 7 isn't much more advanced I heard 8 is much better for special effects) than any version of RPG Maker. [[User:Keiji|Keiji]] 14:31, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
::::::'''No. You are not replacing a battle engine with a bunch of "events" and "pictures" accessing your random set of switches and variables.''' Anyone who ever did object-oriented programming will agree that this concept goes against all present structures and requires a huge amount of braindead low-level managing. As a comparison, it's like developing the game itself in your favorite programming language, while writing the battle system in pure assembly. (Besides, RMXP adds a huge overhead of Ruby processing to each event, which probably makes the resulting system feel incredibly slow.)
::::::RMXP gives you scripting functionality which directly lets you modify the battle engine on the same programming level it was made on. This will allow you object-oriented access and modification of all the data you possibly want to use and then some. You can even use all the data you can edit in the database, which wasn't possible with 2k. And adding a feature for changing backgrounds during battle should only require a bit of searching what to modify in the scripts, writing a function, and then calling it from the event scripts when necessary.
::::::Seriously, this is why I won't recommend using RPG Maker 2000/2003. Besides, that engine is over 10 years old now. Seeing people still recommending (!) wasting lots of time and organization effort in creating a pseudo-engine based on this event system makes me rage.
::::::tl;dr: Keep the events for simple, plot-driving stuff, and don't use them for complex UI systems. You have a scripting engine for that. --[[User:NamelessLegacy|NamelessLegacy]] 15:08, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
:::::::What are you getting so worked up about? S-chan DID replace a battle system with a bunch of events and pictures, there's no denying that. Sure, it's a bad programming paradigm, but if RM2k is all you can use, it's the best you can do, and in fact it's rather innovative! But as I said, I'd recommend Game Maker over RPG Maker anyway. [[User:Keiji|Keiji]] 10:28, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

:Someone on RPGRPGRevolution forums (large forums for RM games, scripts, and resources) wanted to make a complex active time battle system similar to star ocean or the tales series. People recommended Game Maker over RM. Anyone have experience with Game Maker? I saw some sample games screenshots and saw a nice mario game! --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 16:00, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
:This also explains why your Google searches failed. Nobody can help you if you just ask a generic question like this. See, even I might have misunderstood your question, and you want something entirely different.
::I have loads of experience with Game Maker 5.3a. No idea how much has changed in the later versions. Don't have the time to commit to anything big though. [[User:Keiji|Keiji]] 22:21, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
::: Simple mini-games would be good enough. We can post a bunch of our creations for free, then some people might become interested and start making their own larger projects. --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 23:09, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Oh dear god RPG Maker....good for some things, but otherwise very limited in what it can let you do. I've been working on my own TH RPG for the past 2 years now, and still only 50% done. Mainly due to how limited the system is, I can't do half of what I wanted to do with it. VX/XP are good yes, but you'll probably have to make all of the resources yourselves, as I recall there being not that many resources for either of those. I'd stick with 2k3, but again, it's limited with what you can and can't do (enemies don't have levels, damage formula is wack for physical attack, don't even have magic defense, etc....). Just so much that COULD have been done, but WASN'T done...but that's my two cents on this. [[User:Xenomic|Xenomic]] 08:37, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
:I can only suggest you to learn a compiled programming language, ideally C, from start to finish. (Watch out that you learn _only_ C, not C++, at first. All that object-oriented extra stuff may be used by some games, but is not guaranteed to help you much in that regard). Depending of what you want to patch, you may need to learn the basics of assembly language as well.
:That's true. Then again, in the worst case, we'd go ahead and write custom scripts to accomplish what is wanted. For me, I don't really want to write a game engine from scratch just to get certain things I wanted in. There are probably other game engines that do provide the kind of features that would be sought for though --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 15:00, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
:And after practicing a bit, the basic workflow of "creating a patch" ''should come to you naturally''. If you still need help with specifics then, some hackers will certainly be willing to help you.
::Perhaps, though it also depends on how in-depth you WANT to go too I suppose. I haven't messed with VX/XP to know exactly what they can do, but I HAVE seen some of what it's capable of in a way from the Touhou - FFXI RPG on Nico. [[User:Xenomic|Xenomic]] 20:37, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

== Spell card pages ==
:If you want to see how such a patch may look like, I recommend taking a look at the source code and technical documentation of the [[Game Tools and Modifications#Touhou Vorbis Compressor|Touhou Vorbis Compressor]]. I documented all the aspects involved in designing and creating a patch like this. It's a fairly simple patch when compared to [http://iamp.mizuumi.net/wiki/Rollcaster other, more complicated patches]. If you really want to be able create a patch, you should have no problem understanding this documentation. --[[User:NamelessLegacy|NamelessLegacy]] 11:24, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

So I'm looking through some spell card pages and notice this massive table of contents that just says "Spell Card 1, Spell Card 2, ... " which I have to say isn't particularly useful and just looks bad. Maybe we can just plug in <nowiki>__NOTOC__</nowiki> to all of them? --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 15:00, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks!
: It provides anchor links. --[[User:WGH|WGH]] 15:21, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
:: I usually provide anchor links when users can look at the title and know exactly where they want to go. The only thing I can see is that people can jump to a card "somewhere near the bottom of the page" rather than scrolling down. --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 15:28, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

== Doujin arrange groups that don't release albums ==
I guess I better get cracking...

[[Talk:List_by_Groups#Ezel-Ash]]. I've noticed this in other places as well, where artists may release individual arrangements on their website for download. Should we get this kind of info as well? --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 04:43, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
[[User:Nazeo|♥★♦]] 02:20, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
:I agree. I've also find an artist called [http://www.geocities.jp/watermill_cello/ Gauche]. He may also be a part of a group called "水車小屋", but this isn't on the wiki as well. --[[User:Tony64]] 08:09, 16 February 2011 (GMT)

::Especially that kind of info! Making freely available content available on the wiki is always a good idea. And a release through the typical Japanese doujin channels shouldn't be a requirement for a mention here.
==Other Dead language wiki?==
OK, I have identified some of the "dead" wiki, here's the list:
:[[:de:|German]], [[:es:|Spanish]], [[:it:|Italian]], [[:pt:|Portuguese]], [[:sv:|Swedish]], and [[:uk:|Ukrainian]]
As of the list above, ''sv'' admin "promised" to write the content of the wiki when he's done with his exam. And now for the rest: ''de'' has been "declared" dead by [[User:NamelessLegacy|NamelessLegacy]], ''es'' and ''pt''... well not quite dead, but rarely have some editor to come in. Finally, ''it'' and ''uk''... I don't want to say so much but... the two person who requested us to open the related language wiki is gone, and the whole wiki is left empty for a few weeks, no edit activities occur.

:::That's true. I don't think the original intent of list by groups was to filter out freely distributed works though, but it was easy to organize and get it out there. It's just that no one did it lol --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 14:09, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
So, now's the problem: Who can help to revive those dead wikis? - [[User:KyoriAsh|KyoriAsh]] 11:48, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
: I think we should do at least two things to promote small wikis. First: finaly make global main page ([[Talk:Touhou Wiki/Mainpage]]). And second: enable interwiki panel expanded by default. Just like it's made in Wikipedia now. This panel is hidden by default in our wiki and so people don't notice it and are not aware of existence of other language wikis. For new wikis we should make incubator site as I've said before. [[User:Coyc|Coyc]] 12:03, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

::In fact, I propose creating an entire new list page for doujin artists who release arrangements for free download.
== wiki.net vs wikia ==
::Of course, this should not contain every single arrange by every single artist you can possibly find. But if you randomly happen to find something you like, you can just add it.

:::Right now I'm not sure if there are any solid plans to extend the doujin circles, but I can imagine three places where this information would go: List by Song, Circle/artist page, and the new "individual" works. I will push out a new doujin circle portal that will list all of the doujin circles we have on our wiki (I will start with music) and have appropriate links set up. The new page will be a really rough dump of data, but that can be cleaned up later if necessary. Getting the information out is more important than aesthetics for the most part --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 14:09, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Which out of these two is the most populist? Why I ask is because wikia is just f****d up! Has anyone seen the info they provide on the characters pages? Such as comparing Sakuya and Youmu to Sonic and saying Patchouli was the one who created flandres wind, and even saying the wrong translation on one Japanese character? And most of it doesn't say if it's either canon of fanon. WTF zombie wiki? There isn't even good articles on Kyouko Kasodani, Yoshika Miyako and Ten Desires. Someone has to either get wikia to this wiki or close the wiki for good! (or at least get every English speaker across the globe who's a Touhou fan knowing about this wiki.) I mean, we also let users upload fan-made created stuff on the wiki (e.g. [[Fiction]] and [[User:KiKi-KaiKai/My Original Touhou Chars/Ryoukei Tsuyoshin|KiKi-KaiKai]]'s OC (lol)). I also like to ask on why wiki.net is not yet at the top of [http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGHP_en-GBGB415GB417&q=touhou+wiki google]... --[[User:Tony64|Tony64]] 11:54, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
:Simple answer: Touhou Wiki used to have Wikia as a host. Then we left. Due to Wikia's policies, it can't be closed. Due to past history, still on top of Google. How long as this particular site been active? Less than a year. Just give it time and wait til next Comiket. [[User:Kiefmaster99|- Kiefmaster99]] 12:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
:I guess <i>Touhou Project Wiki</i> (Old Wiki) was maintained once to copy & add some ideas or sentences from this wiki. Moreover, I can't believe every user can access from the top page of that wiki to a podcast series "Touhou Podcast" from a user "<b>THWikiPodcast</b>", even though the current wiki (here) is "Touhou Wiki" while the Old Wiki was renamed as "Touhou <b>Project</b> Wiki". --[[User:Masuo64|masuo64]] [[User Talk:Masuo64|Talk]] 17:26, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
:They're at the top of Google right now, but we're the more active wiki, as far as edits and up to date information is concerned. In time search results ''should'' change to reflect this. Unfortunately, Wikia is also an arm of Wikipedia, and is popular as a whole, which will likely always influence the results. Also, people are lazy. Even if they did know about us, they would still go for the first search hit, which isn't us.
:I'm concerned that they'll feed the fans bad information, but we have nothing to do with them anymore, so it's not like we can do anything about it. Just as long as we continue to get the name out, keep editing to ensure that we remain the better option, and hope the other site remains a wreck of bad design and bad edits. [[image:20101007214419!Image0001cover.jpg|256px]]
I've noticed a problem with the patch on the title screen.  The title of the game reads "Emboidment of Scarlet Devil".  It's a very small problem, but it's extremely annoying.  Is there someone I can contact to fix it?  Is it something simple I can fix myself?  Also, am I asking my questions in the wrong places?  I don't want to annoy someone with having to move my posts.  Thanks in advance.--[[User:Flanchan|Flanchan]] 05:07, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Should we go and make them smaller? I'm not sure how version control works but I imagine multiple copies of the same file are stored on the server? I'm only focused on making sure that when we actually load the image, it's going to be the smaller one. Then I can assure you that there's excellent and terrible stuff on both sides. --[[User:NamelessLegacy|NamelessLegacy]] 10:59, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

About the sidebar, it's a bit confusing right now. I suggest moving ''Fangames'' (from Games), ''Doujin music'' (from Music) and ''Fanfiction'' (from Print Works) under Derivative Works.
I saw a really crazy Embodiment of Scarlet Devil video, and since this is "the" Touhou English site, I wanted to ask here about it.  Here's the link:

.. oh wait, that would leave Music with only one link, that being [[Music CDs|Official CDs]]. Well, how about tossing in [[:Category: Music by Game]]? I can imagine some people looking just for that in the sidebar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01UuqBwrvdY

And about that doujin vs. fanworks argument, how about just omitting that prefix under the Derivative Works heading, since it's redundant anyway? So it would be just ''Portal'', ''Circles'', ''Music'', ''Fanfiction'' and ''Games''. --[[User:NamelessLegacy|NamelessLegacy]] 10:59, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
The guy said in his video description that he didn't know what to call it, so I wanted to ask around and find out what it was. :Ya, I didn't want to leave categories with only one link so I moved the stuff back to their original spots. If we can fill them with popular links then that would be a little better --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 15:53, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

== New front page ==
:He couldn't call it "Ùltra mode" only because he was playing the Extra stage of the same/similar modification.
:The title is 東方紅魔郷Ex 裏2周目突入 (of which I can only made out the first part as "EoSD Ex".) The Ultra-mode one is called 東方紅魔郷Ultraモード (EoSD Ultra mode). TAS = Tool-assisted (whether by slowing down the game or by using save states).
:The Nico Nico Douga link has the link to the patch.

Just a few suggestions:
I just recently discovered on what VS3025 is doing at wikia. He seems to have created a template [http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Char_Info_Sample here] for the characters at "his" wiki. Now, I don't know about you guys but who thinks this would work for wikia and who thinks this is rubbish. Who thinks is better, VS3025 on [http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Aya_Shameimaru Aya's page at wikia] or Quwanti's on [[User:Quwanti/Hina Kagiyama|Hina]]? I've also seen a "/" on Aya's sup pages there, which I know wikia has never used that before, and I've seen some users putting info at that wiki that seems to have come from this wiki. Regarding color. I'll raise consistency as a concern. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the color, if the rest of the wiki was in the same scheme, which it isn't. It's too different. The Naxboxes and Infoboxes both use similar colors, but both have a very light background color for the text. I will test this on the [[Touhou Wiki:Frontpage_modifications|'sandbox' version]]. Tests can be viewed under the page history. After testing, I think that changing the background color to a lighter one would be sufficient. [[User:Kiefmaster99|- Kiefmaster99]] 08:59, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
::No, your theory holds water. I think if it does make our wiki slower, than I say no, because the ones who truly want to see our wiki already know we exist and they would've had contacted their friends and such... So, I think we are fine, unless we find some way to prevent slowing while implementing, then that would be great! (We don't have to prove anything to the other wiki, as everyone can decide for themselves which resource they wish to use.)
:I can second this sentiment.  It really is my only issue - we barely use colour formatting elsewhere on the wiki so we don't really need it here (Really, it could be fine even if the colours were just much 'softer' to fit with the exterior framing of the page, for instance).  Oh, and why are three specific game OSTs given their own special slots on the front page?  (There might be a legitimate explanation for this I'm just unaware of, like if the OSTs have extra tracks or something).--[[User:Garlyle|Garlyle]] 15:24, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

:Those other wikis are simply cluttered to begin with. We don't really have that problem. Social links there aren't the thing making the difference between messy and clean or fast and slow and I don't think adding such here would make a significant difference in those things. I just question how much good it would ultimately do. If we really want to reach out we'd be better off making Twitter or Facebook accounts for the site, but I don't know if anyone would be willing to put time and effort into those. Twitter, at least, is worthless unless it's semi-frequently updated. Although we already have a [http://twitter.com/touhouwiki Twitter], apparently, I guess. But either way, that's time better put into the wiki itself. [[User:UTW|UTW]] 06:28, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

As you may or may not know, [http://thwiki.info THWiki] holds an annual popularity poll on their site. See [http://thwiki.info/th/vote8/ here] for the latest one. To date there is no centrailized location for results in English, so I was just thinking we should make a page here to be linked under [[Random Things]]. I don't believe a page for each yearly poll is necessary, but just one with headers for each year and collapsible tables for results would do. [[User:UTW|UTW]] 02:59, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

There's a lot of information out there that people might randomly come across and may not know where to put it. Do we have a page where we can just random throw things at and see if someone knows where to put it? If not, I was reading about the hakurei shrine and how "The Hakurei Shrine is supposed to be the one gate through the boundary - this Shinto shrine exists on both sides of the border. Thus a lot of random items slip through and are found at the Shrine.", hence it would be a relevant theme to name the page by. --[[User:Tsukihime|Tsukihime]] 19:19, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I've been working on that thing for so long, it's still not complete, but it's the most complete I've ever seen.
I've used many sources, none of them are listed though.
It's there: http://gensokyo.wikispaces.com/Touhou+timeline
I'm not sure if it'll be useful somehow, but I sure hope it will.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but I noticed that the fan comics torrent is nearly a year old. I was wondering, is anyone was working on updating the torrent or would mind if I took up the task? I don't want to setup a torrent and end up splitting the torrent users. I made a similar post on the comics page but only got 1 response so I wasn't sure if it was simply unnoticed.

OK... On Danbooru, there's seems to be images officially drawn by ZUN and I'm curious why they are not on the wiki, I've also manage to found a website that seems to somewhat have a list of these images and are linked to ZUN's old website, there seems to be more images on the website than on danbooru. Discuss? --Tony64 14:44, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, there are some illustrations by ZUN that were never uploaded to the wiki. Most of them can still be found at his site if you use the web archive. Master Bigode 17:02, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Shall I start creating a page for these images then? --Tony64 17:19, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Books backcovers

I own most of the official touhou printworks(Except Inaba of the Moon and the semi-official fanbook), and all the official windows touhou shooter games up to now. I updated a few book covers, mainly for the three fairies series, but I was wondering if there was a way to get to show the backcover of the books without being invasive in the pages. Uploading it together with the frontcover in the preview picture makes it very stretched and small. I could upload the backcovers of the books as well as those of the games. Sefam 12:40, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm OK with the additions, but the images are a little too big file size-wise for something that is used for illustrative purposes only. If possible, try to keep their file size under 500kb. Master Bigode 20:32, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
They're big but I'm thinking it won't be a problem, since you normally see them already resized (and resized images are cached anyway). Momiji 21:04, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
What Momiji said. Sefam 21:40, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Make em png files and do what the above said! ♥★♦ 16:11, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Ehh, making them PNG files would make them bigger than 10MB. Perhaps much bigger. Master Bigode 16:34, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Wait, so jpgs are smaller? I was always told that png was best. ♥★♦ 16:37, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

For certain things it's best. For images with smooth color gradients (like photographs, in general) JPEG is best. For images with lots of repeating patterns and whatnot, in places you'd previously use GIF for, or if you need transparency support, use PNG. Momiji 16:42, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

I just visited Wikia and it's full of "This page has moved to http://en.touhouwiki.net/" in every page. Not to mention it looks broken Vecktor 16:22, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Yep, the images have been removed, but the links are still there. Guess it's better this way. Oh, and the only reason I went there is because it still pops up first on Google when I search for Touhou related stuff. MoonRabbit 16:34, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

VS3025 wrote up a pretty non-biased About page, detailing the history of the two wikis. I'd say at this point, at least between the two wikis, the hatchet is officially buried. Momiji 05:29, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

As much as I dislike on how things went down, that's going too far and the way I see it is we must not make a big deal on what's occurring at wikia because that just feeds the trolls and reactions really doesn't help us here.

So... in that regard I'm with you guys. It's over and that's all that really needs to be said about it No need to spam for us on our account because what that does is just makes us look bad and we don't stand for it.

Funny Party in the fog translation

Hello. I've recently discovered a fantastic CD via youtube.com called "Funny Party in the fog". I would like to know what the lyrics are in English (Romaji and English preferably) so I've been going around and asking people how I could get these songs translated. Since this is the Touhou hub of the west, I figured this would be a good place to ask around. If I've asked in the wrong area, please forgive me. I've never joined a wiki community before. Thanks for any help that can be given. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Flanchan (talkcontribs)

The article for it is here, but as you can see, no lyrics are up yet. Maybe someone who owns a copy will add the lyrics some day. If you add the red links to your watchlist (click the star at the top of the page, near the edit button), and enable e-mail notifications in your preferences, you'll be notified via e-mail that those pages have been edited. Master Bigode 22:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. I'll keep an eye on the page. I'm currently looking around for someone who can translate the CD (or at least song 4...so amazing), so if I get any translations before touhouwiki.net does, I'll be sure to share. --Flanchan 04:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Any suggestions?--Flanchan 05:23, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Anyone know how to patch?

(resurrected from Archive 6)

After watching several of our community members make patched games (such as Lucky Charat and RegalStar) I'm interested to get in the mix!

But... after many frustrating Google searches, I got nothing...

Don't worry about the actual translations themselves, I just want to be able to make the files responsible to make this happen.

So, any one willing to help me out? ♥★♦ 00:59, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

First off, if you ask a generic question like "how do I create patch", chances are you're probably pretty far away from creating one.
Applying external modifications to a compiled application is just one area of "hacking", and thus requires a comprehensive knowledge on how the program in question, and programs in general, operate. And as every program, and therefore every patch, is different, there's also no "surefire way" to create a patch.
This also explains why your Google searches failed. Nobody can help you if you just ask a generic question like this. See, even I might have misunderstood your question, and you want something entirely different.
I can only suggest you to learn a compiled programming language, ideally C, from start to finish. (Watch out that you learn _only_ C, not C++, at first. All that object-oriented extra stuff may be used by some games, but is not guaranteed to help you much in that regard). Depending of what you want to patch, you may need to learn the basics of assembly language as well.
And after practicing a bit, the basic workflow of "creating a patch" should come to you naturally. If you still need help with specifics then, some hackers will certainly be willing to help you.
If you want to see how such a patch may look like, I recommend taking a look at the source code and technical documentation of the Touhou Vorbis Compressor. I documented all the aspects involved in designing and creating a patch like this. It's a fairly simple patch when compared to other, more complicated patches. If you really want to be able create a patch, you should have no problem understanding this documentation. --NamelessLegacy 11:24, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!

I guess I better get cracking...

Other Dead language wiki?

OK, I have identified some of the "dead" wiki, here's the list:

German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, and Ukrainian

As of the list above, sv admin "promised" to write the content of the wiki when he's done with his exam. And now for the rest: de has been "declared" dead by NamelessLegacy, es and pt... well not quite dead, but rarely have some editor to come in. Finally, it and uk... I don't want to say so much but... the two person who requested us to open the related language wiki is gone, and the whole wiki is left empty for a few weeks, no edit activities occur.

So, now's the problem: Who can help to revive those dead wikis? - KyoriAsh 11:48, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

I think we should do at least two things to promote small wikis. First: finaly make global main page (Talk:Touhou Wiki/Mainpage). And second: enable interwiki panel expanded by default. Just like it's made in Wikipedia now. This panel is hidden by default in our wiki and so people don't notice it and are not aware of existence of other language wikis. For new wikis we should make incubator site as I've said before. Coyc 12:03, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

wiki.net vs wikia

Fiction and KiKi-KaiKai's OC (lol)). I also like to ask on why wiki.net is not yet at the top of google... --Tony64 11:54, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Simple answer: Touhou Wiki used to have Wikia as a host. Then we left. Due to Wikia's policies, it can't be closed. Due to past history, still on top of Google. How long as this particular site been active? Less than a year. Just give it time and wait til next Comiket. - Kiefmaster99 12:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
I guess Touhou Project Wiki (Old Wiki) was maintained once to copy & add some ideas or sentences from this wiki. Moreover, I can't believe every user can access from the top page of that wiki to a podcast series "Touhou Podcast" from a user "THWikiPodcast", even though the current wiki (here) is "Touhou Wiki" while the Old Wiki was renamed as "Touhou Project Wiki". --masuo64 Talk 17:26, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
They're at the top of Google right now, but we're the more active wiki, as far as edits and up to date information is concerned. In time search results should change to reflect this. Unfortunately, Wikia is also an arm of Wikipedia, and is popular as a whole, which will likely always influence the results. Also, people are lazy. Even if they did know about us, they would still go for the first search hit, which isn't us.
I'm concerned that they'll feed the fans bad information, but we have nothing to do with them anymore, so it's not like we can do anything about it. Just as long as we continue to get the name out, keep editing to ensure that we remain the better option, and hope the other site remains a wreck of bad design and bad edits. Embodiment of Scarlet Devil retexture patch problem

Thanks in advance.--Flanchan 05:07, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

You're better off contacting the person who made the patch directly. Try here.
He also supposedly said that he'd touch it up last December, but I guess that never happened. - Kiefmaster99 05:49, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Beyond Ultra Mode?

I saw a really crazy Embodiment of Scarlet Devil video, and since this is "the" Touhou English site, I wanted to ask here about it. Here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01UuqBwrvdY

The guy said in his video description that he didn't know what to call it, so I wanted to ask around and find out what it was. Also what is TAS? It seems he slowed down the actual gameplay with TAS. Understandable since that hack looked too insane to humanly do. Thanks in advance. --Flanchan 04:23, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

He couldn't call it "Ùltra mode" only because he was playing the Extra stage of the same/similar modification.
The title is 東方紅魔郷Ex 裏2周目突入 (of which I can only made out the first part as "EoSD Ex".) The Ultra-mode one is called 東方紅魔郷Ultraモード (EoSD Ultra mode). TAS = Tool-assisted (whether by slowing down the game or by using save states).
The Nico Nico Douga link has the link to the patch.
Also, you're better off asking questions such as this in other Touhou fansite forums. While this site is dedicated to Touhou, the Talk pages are intended for improving the wiki and such. - Kiefmaster99 05:19, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the answer and the advice. If I ever feel like committing suicide, I'll check out that link XD. And I'll ask my questions on one of the forums from the link page.--Flanchan 23:59, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Is wikia getting better?

I just recently discovered on what VS3025 is doing at wikia. He seems to have created a template here for the characters at "his" wiki. Now, I don't know about you guys but who thinks this would work for wikia and who thinks this is rubbish. Who thinks is better, VS3025 on Aya's page at wikia or Quwanti's on Hina? I've also seen a "/" on Aya's sup pages there, which I know wikia has never used that before, and I've seen some users putting info at that wiki that seems to have come from this wiki. At my own speculation, wikia is copying us. Why was I at wiki is because I was checking there recent changes, at's all ;) --Tony64 16:51, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Both works, the one better, ask someone outside, like a post on Shrinemaiden. Berzul 16:56, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
Wikia arbitrarily copying us is not a new thing. I have seen changes made there that stem from this wiki's discussion.
At the same time though, their quality control is, ahem, lacking.
Getting a neutral opinion is going to be somewhat hard. Most Touhou fan websites are already aware that the wiki has moved (ranging from major threads to knee-jerk reactions), and userbases have developed bias against Wikia. - Kiefmaster99 17:21, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
Stop going to wikia. That place is already dead and harmless. Master Bigode 18:06, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
I agree. As a certain fluffy friend once told me, stop beating an already dead horse and let's move on with what we have to do here! ♥★♦ 04:14, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, the dead horse thing goes through my mind every time it's brought up. - Kiefmaster99 04:43, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Social networks

It's true that Touhou fan communities are aware of our wiki, but search engines are stil showing Wikia one at their top results. And Wikia has Facebook "like" button on its pages. So how about we to enable such buttons for FB, Twitter and Google in our wiki? I think it would help to spread the word for those who yet don't know about this wiki. --Coyc 18:44, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Do other major wikis (Super Mario Wiki; Bulbapedia) use this? - Kiefmaster99 18:54, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
It seems that Nintendo wikis don't use this. Something like this is used on Wikinews: and Russian Uncyclopedia (it also moved from Wikia like us lol).Coyc 19:08, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
That's a brilliant idea! It can take us to top of google! I would just go straight for it if I was you ^,^ --Tony64 19:29, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
If it takes longer to display when such a feature is added, we should stop and consider, because, I think, one of the purposes of databases is the speediness on displaying the interface. My first impression to that wiki was "Wow, too comlicated, cumbersome... Too long to finish loading!" If this wiki gets longer to finish loading, as a result we're following one of the weak points of that wiki. Is this a needless worry? --masuo64 Talk 03:02, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
No, your theory holds water.

♥★♦ 04:11, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm more against the like button simply because it takes up clutter at the expense of, at least IMO, not doing much. The extra clutter will likely tick off visitors. - Kiefmaster99 04:43, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Those other wikis are simply cluttered to begin with. Although we already have a Twitter, apparently, I guess. But either way, that's time better put into the wiki itself. UTW 06:28, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
I agree, a couple random widgets here and there isn't what makes a page cluttered or not, it's the overall design. That said, does a like button really make that much of a difference for the rankings? --Tsukihime 16:24, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

References outside Touhou

I like say one thing, should we create a page that creates references to Touhou? Example, this image seems to have come from some anime (which I don't know where... ;), and the yukkuri shiteitte ne song by Miku Hatsune is a big reference to Touhou. I got this idea from the Mario wiki here. Discuss? --Tony64 20:49, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

I vote yesh! It has enough water to deserve a slot in the Sidebar, as it shows the appreciation of other people outside the Touhou World! ♥★♦ 20:11, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Cirno Tokens

For every 9 major contributions you make to wiki, you receive a wonderful cirno token!

You may exchange 9 cirno tokens for a cirno coin.

You can post them on the list of users beside your name. --Tsukihime 01:42, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Each task on the community portal should be assigned a reward value between 1 and 5. This indicates how many cirno tokens you will receive upon completion of the task. 5 cirno tokens means you will receive a cirno coin. --Tsukihime 02:34, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Out of game timeline

I've been working on that thing for so long, it's still not complete, but it's the most complete I've ever seen. I've used many sources, none of them are listed though. It's there: http://gensokyo.wikispaces.com/Touhou+timeline I'm not sure if it'll be useful somehow, but I sure hope it will. MarioJr 15:43, 28 July 2011 (UTC) Oh, by the way, please, pleeeaaase disregard the other pages of that site. It's very, VERY incomplete, and still a work in progress. IRC Problem?

Is there a problem with the IRC? I can't seem to load it up... --Tony64 (Talk) 22:44, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

I even checked the logs for the 29th of July and it looks like I've haven't missed much... --Tony64 (Talk) 23:10, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

So... heard anything if it will repair soon? --Tony64 (Talk) 23:56, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I noitced to. It is pretty frustrating. :P ~ Quwanti 16:22, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Apparently, the shrinemaiden link now says it's fixed, but... --Tony64 (Talk) 16:25, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

The IRC should now be working for everyone. --Tony64 (Talk) 20:03, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Aha it is not fixed at all for me. What is happening is that it does not even connect to the server at all, just automatically it says that there is no such server. Can't ping it... so I don't know what else should I try really... Berzul 20:33, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
I would just suggest waiting a bit longer. That's what I did really. I have no other suggestion, so sorry if it's still doesn't work. Tony64 22:08, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Oh I know let's use proxy, and it works, thus the server does not like my IP.... Berzul 03:11, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
For now I can connect, so they probably fix their block IP range lists... Berzul 17:17, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
