The name itself is irrelevant. I just came up with something quick. We should have a page primarily focused on editors that's easily accessible. It will contain a list of "works in-progess" such as the subpaging move, updating music article templates, red link albums, translations, etc.

It would be useful if you're not sure what's going on around the wiki changes sometimes just get approved (over IRC) and is implemented quickly (but not quick enough since there are dozens or hundreds of articles to go through). The page would be decorated very stylishly for presentation purposes, but it would basically have headings that group the kind of editing job it is. --Tsukihime 18:15, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Sounds familiar - Master Bigode 23:09, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
lol great, there's already stuff there. But seeing how I couldn't find it..maybe it's not obvious enough =\ --Tsukihime 13:52, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Then we will make more use of the community portal. --Tsukihime 15:03, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Expanding Community Portal

Making it more visible

So What links here? Nothing from any of the main articles. Seems like the only place we can find it are from the Welcome message, the category page (wherever that is) and some random links on people's profiles. No matter how I look at it, it's not very visible.

Our sidebar currently has "Content (A-Z)" which seems rather useless for the most part. One option would be to add a link to the community portal somewhere under Recent changes, or perhaps create a section for "Community Portal" which will contain dropdown links to particular pages within (for now, there will be none as the idea has not gotten anywhere yet).

Proposal: Remove Content (A-Z), Replace with Community Portal --Tsukihime 15:03, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

This has been completed. Chloe 16:23, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Talk Page

The talk page would be focused on editing works, and possibly editor recognition (great glory!). Why not just use the main talk page? Well there's a lot of non-editing related stuff there and trying to find a topic in the archives is pretty difficult right now. Having a topical format would be ideal. --Tsukihime 18:32, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

More stuff

We might have a dynamically updated list of editors and also have an editor of the month raffle, where the winner receives great glory!

We will make it a big deal. --Tsukihime 18:21, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Um, didn't Nazeo wanted to have the exact same with his user project? Well, I myself am busy enough, but I wouldn't mind having something like that. But do we really need all these community features? Yeah, we'll be on par with Wikia, but I don't know if doing the exact same is particularly wise in this situation. --NamelessLegacy 22:54, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Probably. Seems like he's given up on it though lol. If we constantly avoid anything that wikia does, then we'll have basically nothing. --Tsukihime 23:07, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

I was kinda hoping to accomplish that by my list of editor's (see Editor's) just that you beat me to the punch...

That being said, I'm in!

(Who said I gave up? Certain people I wish not to name deleted their names as soon as I put them in; ergo I have no power in keeping them there!)

In fact... I think I'll revamp this now that you've got me going here...

To Tsukihime: I didn't give up, but I have to be cautious with this.

I don't want to upset anyone with it, I just want to make this as painless as possible.

That's why it seems slow, I don't want to step on people's toes!

Already I have resistance to moving forward with this, (but annoyingly, no solutions as to how to fix things...)

So suggestions?

It's yours(aka the community), not mine as what to do with it...

♥★♦ 01:31, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

I think it would be best to separate the page into various modules. The editors list would only be one module. Others would include list of tasks and whatnot. Having it all on one page may be too much information because the list can grow extremely fast (as can be seen from the current portal). So the list of users would continue to focus on "people" related stuff like teams and whatnot. --Tsukihime 05:49, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm good with that if I can figure out how to do it...
I'll accept any help that can go into this, but I won't idle by; I will figure it out if everyone is too busy!

♥★♦ 02:29, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to turn this into a relay system and keep it alive.

Well, we now have the IRC for speedy contact, the Community Portal if someone needed work, the Talk for this wiki and The User Project as a quick resource.

So, what this will now be used is a way where Users can use this as a tool where...

  • If they want to ask other editor's questions that aren't normally on the IRC due to Time Zones, Unawareness and etc.
  • Talk about things that don't quite fit into the Community Portal, the talk page, or The User Project.

Basically, this will be a hub where Editor's can...

  • Ask other editor's questions.
  • Infer ideas.
  • Discuss future plans.

So, who's with me?

♥★♦ 03:17, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm glined from the IRC network, so I have nothing wrong with this, it could help a lot people who either can't access the IRC at all, don't want to, or simply aren't on on the same time zones as everyone else.

Sefam 07:02, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your support!
It was Tsukihime's idea and I'm just trying to keep it alive
♥★♦ 07:13, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Some confusion

I am currently trying to rewrite the character page for Reimu, and many things just confuse me. First off, why are appearances constantly referring to the last game? You end up with MoF referring PoFV referring IN referring PCB referring EoSD for Reimu's appearance, I'm not sure about you, but it gets a bit confusing for me. I'm also unsure how to depict the relationships for her since she knows pretty much everyone. I'm also unsure if I should mention the PC-98 era characters.

Sefam 18:52, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I guess it is for continuity, (Like President Grover Cleveland appearing twice but not in a consecutive fashion)

But, at the same time, I'd say something like EoSD-Ten Desires with breaks during Double Spoiler and Shoot the Bullet

And I say yes for including Pc-98 for it indeed happened!

♥★♦ 21:20, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I meant that more concerning the relationships. Genji is never seen after Touhou 5, neither are any of the characters supposedly living in Reimu's shrine besides Suika.

Sefam 21:26, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Then how do we explain such Characters like Ruukoto?

Supposdly she is still with Reimu... and this starts with me gettinga headache trying to explain the jump from Pc-98 to Windows.

I almost want to treat them as two seperate people, Pc-98 Reimu and the Windows Reimu.

So... I guess we can say that we can *shudder* speculate as best as we can on what happened to Genji and the rest of Pc-98... ♥★♦ 21:51, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

For now, I simply don't mention them in relationships as to avoid confusion

Sefam 21:54, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

So should we do the same with Genji until we have a better way of sorting this out? ♥★♦ 22:02, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Reimu's page.

Ultimatum cancelled.

I propose we change the current Hakurei Reimu page to this updated one with the InfoBox layout; User:Sefam/Reimu_Hakurei. As I am not a major editor on the site and as the Reimu page IS the most visited page on the wiki, I decided to ask before by throwing this ultimatum. You can change your votes along the way and propose suggestions, there are a few things I would like to change/expand on myself, such as the Relationships section.

I vote yesh! ♥★♦ 22:01, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Please allow me to change some little stuff. s the appereacne is still not that good with what first appears in the subsection. (Like that (Th 1-5 blabla)) ~ Quwanti 22:02, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm currently working on it, but I'l hold my modifications on the bench and see what you can do to it first. Sefam 22:03, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Qwanti suggested I should update the page right now, so I did. I'l just call off the ultimatum and we can work on the page from here

The Reimu page needs some help right now! Talk:Reimu_Hakurei

Separate pages for the 3 fairies

I'm currently looking at the infobox layout, and at the Sunny/Luna/Star page, and I have a bit of a problem with the page; why is it that three characters that have a rather significant amount of canon material(More than Maribel and Renko who both have their own page) have a single page?

Sefam 22:11, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I agree that they should be separated. But as we do this, we should also unchain the Prismrivers as well.

♥★♦ 06:29, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Add Original Songs to Character pages?

I thought it was a good idea anyway...

♥★♦ 05:46, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

You mean like the character themes? I did that as you can see on the Reimu/Marisa/Youmu pages. Check "Music Themes" in the infobox.

The reason it's not done on most other profiles is that Momi hurried to update every character page to the infobox layout. I'l get to the music themes myself later.

--Sefam 11:45, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Kk, it looks like I'm willing to totally revamp these char-pages to a total centralization as I notice they are almost all over the place!

I'm using Reimu as a example for what the all the pages should look like.

If you need me or have something you need to tell me,Sefam (or anyone else), just ask

♥★♦ 04:01, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I should refer to the Guidelines for a good overview what needs to change. ~ Quwanti (Talk) 11:33, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Official profiles too big

I think the official profile section takes way too much space in the contents section, it takes more than half of the list, and it expands itself unless you explicitely tell it to hide. Reimu is one of the biggest and most visited pages, and due to the sheer amount of games the shrine maiden has been in, it looks bloated.

How can I keep the profile sections without them showing in the content box?

And yes, the fairy trio split is coming when I stop procrastinating. ;p

The Massive Image Moving Project

It's go time!

Alright first off you must be willing to devote almost all of your time on this, no slackers, got it?
Second, NO ONE begins without WGH's express say-so!
If we are going to do this, we are going to do this right, got it?

Ok, I need all the active people on this.

Two of our good friends attempted this and got burned.

So now, we shall avenge our brothers and led on a cause of our own

  • Interwiki (VERY Important, DO NOT SCREW UP!!!) and move the imgs to their new title

(Kill the redirects)

Everyone Else

  • Scour across the language wikis and see if the images show up.

If not, check the name and correct it if it's simply missing, and if not moved, check with an admin.

We have our battle roster here (Add yourself, if you think u are worthy...)

Now, it's very important that we do not fail.
The wiki is in our hands now!

Who's with me?!?

(Rally the troops, there will be BLOOD!!!!)

♥★♦ 17:55, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Stop right now. All image-moving projects all frozen until further notice. I'll try to resolve it as soon as possible. Thanks. -WGH 18:10, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Glad to hear it! We are awaiting for deployment! I was gonna wait until you are done with yours (I think it's quite ambitious of you) Just give us the word, and we shall move!

♥★♦ 18:20, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

So, is this bootstarted yet? I'd like to participate. --Sefam 00:09, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Add yourself to the roster, we will go at WGH's Command!

(I also heard K is jumping in on this, gratz to him as well!)

♥★♦ 01:14, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, I barely even know what this is about to be honest, but if it helps the wiki, I'm all for helping! But it would be nice if someone could instruct me about what needs to get done in this project, like, what's the range of the images that we need to move? All of them on the wiki? --Sefam 02:39, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

In a word, Yes.

Hold on for K and WGH

♥★♦ 03:25, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

I still have no idea what all this madness is about, but I'm interested, and I'll try to do whatever I can.

Because: THIS! IS! TOUHOU!!

Ibaraki Ibuki 04:11, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

To reiterate: we will announce when it is appropriate to take on this project. Do not start anything in the meantime. Your work will be reverted and you will break things on the wiki. Chloe 04:15, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Moving images will not break things if the person dedicated to change the link in time. That's what I'm thinking when moving Th02 characters' images - KyoriAsh 13:08, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

To Chloe: I understand the gravity of the situation and we are waiting until the call, right guys?

Keep yourselves toasty, because when they do get done we will take this by storm!

To KyoriAsh: ...And for that reason is why we are waiting.

We must keep this together, otherwise we are going to trip over each other and crash and burn like roasted marshmallows.

Don't worry, this will get done.

♥★♦ 03:43, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

I can't see any specifics for the project. What is the scope of the project, and why do all these images need to be moved anyway? Arcorann 04:43, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Some images, named as Thxx<long name>.png, some used <short form game name><short name>.png, some used Thxx<short name>.PNG/JPG, and some even directly upload the extracted file without renaming
The image moving ultimate target is to convert all character's image naming to Thxx<Short name with first letter of the name in capital letter>.png/jpg - KyoriAsh 16:04, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Though, all the files are already on the move list with the file name it should be, so the only thing to do is moving it, and that is an admin's task. What should non-admin do (after the "go" is said) anyway? ☢ Quwanti (Talk) 16:08, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Non-admin should check across all language wiki whether the pic link is broken or not - KyoriAsh 18:44, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Ugh, where these theatrics come from? Not much external help is needed. Probably none. --WGH 16:11, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Theatrics? This is just how serious we are my comrade! Nonetheless, we are on stand by! As with what Kyori said, we are here to back you up on your epic battle!

(If I miss anything in the tasks, add them there and add yourself to the roster if participating.)

♥★♦ 22:55, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Ah, obvious. That one I forgot. I also just remebered that the "move request" after ove should be deleted. And write me in for "the move". ☢ Quwanti (Talk) 23:21, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

You have been added!

♥★♦ 20:22, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

I would like to initiate a trial move for TH04 char's images, however I need "someone's permission" before I can go for it. - KyoriAsh 11:57, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Backend reports: WGH is making progress on his image moving magic scripts. I am almost done bringing the GlobalUsage extension up to a workable state, which will make checking for a certain image across multiple wikis much easier. Image move operations are to remain on hold until backend preparations are complete. This means don't touch anything. K 17:55, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Also, when we're ready to go, an exact step-by-step process should be written up that will guide a user through the image moving process. Having this kind of process documented will minimize confusion. K 17:55, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the Intel K! We will be ready for the call! ♥★♦ 01:00, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Meantime, let's clarify some things. Particularly, character images naming scheme. I don't see any good reason to make file name as abbreviated as possible. But there are some shortcomings. Such messy file names are a bit hard to read, and they would be barely searchable by search engines. Maybe do something like Th<Game number>-<English abbreviated game title>-<Full character name, words separated with _s>.jpg? --WGH 18:31, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

This is not for me to say.
I carry out the orders.
I'd say go for it (waiting takes way too long) so the ones who are opposed will tell us AND offer a alternative solution.
That way, stuff gets done and we can get rockin!
♥★♦ 01:28, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Several suggestions have been put forth. I know one suggestion mentioned having first name only, primary reason being easier for non-English wiki users to handle.
I prefer having full character name to reduce ambiguity. There is one case where the first name only would have a shortcoming, and which could only be resolved by assigning a nick to another (i.p. udonge or reisenii in SSiB).
I am more indifferent about underscores to space names. Maybe I'll form an opinion on that sometime later. - Kiefmaster99 02:22, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Thxx<Short name with first letter of the name in capital letter>.png/jpg is sufficient to resolve ambiguity, for Reisens, use Reisen and ReisenII to differentiate. - KyoriAsh 04:20, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Except for the adding of "English abbreviated game title" I'm not against it. Adding the abbreviation seems rather pointless as the game is already clarified. ☢ Quwanti 19:59, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
The reason I suggested abbreviated game title is SEO. This way there are more chances that obvious google query like "touhou reimu pcb" will get the right page (the image in the File namespace) as the most relevant result. WGH 16:37, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm still waiting for more opinions/responses. There are currently only two of them - mutually exclusive ones. Only Kiefmaster99 supported one of them. --WGH 19:42, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Due to GlobalUsage's unusual behaviour, I'm afraid that I will take out the plan of edit-first-then-reupload across inter-language wiki, as this may bring up the GlobalUsage from the language which uploaded it, and for abbreviated game title, why should File been query by google rather than game title? It's unnecessary. - KyoriAsh 17:19, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

I believe if you're looking for Reimu's image from PCB, "touhou reimu pcb" is the most natural search query. Getting to it from PCB article would take you a few extra clicks, wouldn't it? --WGH 20:37, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Are you sure about the "query"? - KyoriAsh 11:03, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
What are you trying to say with this link? --WGH 17:15, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
It means the result DOES NOT REALLY return PCB related Reimu images/articles, but rather unrelated to PCB Reimu, also, not everyone search using PCB. - KyoriAsh 17:32, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
My intention is to make it actually return related results. --WGH 17:37, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

What I read from moving pages is that the history of the page should also be moved with it, when they are moved. Shouldn't that also be applied to files? (if possibile, because jpg to png is impossible (I assume)) ☢ QuwantiQuwanti 02:10, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Due to moving "unable to call out GlobalUsage", I had instucted Nazeo to Re-upload the current image to new file name as to activate GU - KyoriAsh 04:40, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Very odd. Despite that Chen image is supposed to be delinked, mediawiki still insists that there are some links to it, but in fact those pages certainly don't link to the image. Pagelinks table seems to be in broken state. I'll ask chloe before proceeding, because I don't feel like relying on potentially invalid data. I've seen only false posivites so far, but the opposite can be possible, too. --WGH 17:20, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Well, I hope there will be a solution about that. It bothered me some months now. ☢ Quwanti 18:28, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Ever since we shifted to this new domain, the page link table already bugged...... - KyoriAsh 18:47, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
You're right. Replying to your edit summary: but it might hinder relinking pages referencing old file name. --WGH 20:34, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
1) The script has been run, and the Chen image is no longer showing the link. 2) Global Usage is nonfunctional as of 1.17 for all MW, I'll check if this has changed. Chloe 05:25, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Splitting the fairies. Now.

My articles for the three fairies are ready, as well as the joint page;

Before making the transition myself, I want to know;

1. Is there any way I could make the joint page better, I have no ideas.

2. Will the navbox adapt itself to the character currently in the page by itself?

3. Will the redirects work correctly to the correct article. IE. If I search Sunny Milk, I want to end up on the Sunny Milk page, not the Three Mischievous Fairies page.

I have put up a notice for a possible name change for the main, just so you know. The Navbox would go like "GROUPNAME • (NAME1 • NAME2 • NAME3)" or something like that I guess.
One thing to watch out for: poorly piped links. By that, I mean [[Three Mischievous Fairies|Sunny Milk]]. See when not to use piped links. You need to do a "what links here".
For 3, you'll be replacing the redirect page with the character's article. - Kiefmaster99 21:38, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

The fairies are now split and happy! You can now visit their respective pages! Sunny Milk Luna Child Star Sapphire Three Fairies of Light. I'm wondering what to work on now.

Nice. I wonder if there is more to tell with the Three Fairies, but the character pages looks good too individual. Maybe we could also split the prismirver sisters page (and now I will help too!). ☢ Quwanti (Talk) 16:08, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Redirect supression when moving an article

Is it good or bad? I think it's bad. Other sites link to our articles pretty often. Nobody likes when links cease to work. I propose to forbid using redirect supression when moving old articles. --WGH 20:49, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

However, there will be ALOT of useless redirect especially those <game>: category or <game>/something, it's uncommon and if there is no interwiki link, then it consider useless, except for common redirect. - KyoriAsh 03:10, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
I didn't say "interwiki", not even once. I'm talking about external links. --WGH 09:47, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
External link is not our concerns, even Wikipedia also not concerns about it, also only certain redirects like character name should be preserved, and not like this type of redirection of the games' sub-pages link. - KyoriAsh 10:04, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Could you give me the proof that Wikipedia doesn't care about links from external websites? I see exactly the opposite here. --WGH 10:13, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Why you would need to retain the old redirect when it was deemed no use, even some of the external site is using? External site should update the link especially those <game>/subpage1/subpage2 and not to retain those old pages. Just like some website already closed and you still using the old external link is improper - KyoriAsh 10:23, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Should, should... This is unattainable in practice. End users should update their IE6, yet web site owners still have to retain (more or less) backward compatibility. By the way, what did you mean by comparing Touhou Wiki with closed site? --WGH 10:38, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
I wait someone to clarify it, besides, Not even any external link return the result - KyoriAsh 11:03, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
I think when a page is moved, especially a page that is visited often, the redirect should stay for some time before it gets deleted. After a while it is linked to the new page rather than the redirect. ☢ Quwanti 15:16, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Even "some time" wouldn't help. It could be, for example, useful forum post, which its author will never bother to update. --WGH 17:19, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
