鬼, 小鬼

Someone seems to have made this edit to the dialogue between Eika and Marisa, and I disagree with the change. Go and see the page of Sai no Kawara and you'll clearly see that who knocks over the stone towers is "small oni," which is 小鬼 in Japanese, rather than "little spirits." The kanji 鬼 rarely means "spirit" unless it's related to Chinese folklore (Yǎng Xiǎoguǐ (養小), for example. Note that Seiga's origin is China).

I also disagree with the idea that the line "この鬼が!" has got something to do with the kanji 醜—I don't say that interpretation's totally impossible, yeah, but I think it's a bit too strained. While 醜 certainly is a derogatory term meaning "ugly" (but often physically ugly, which is also the reason why I don't think this interpretation is very good), I don't quite understand what "shorthand" here in the footnote could mean. That sounds as if we would use 鬼 instead of 醜, but we actually don't. I suppose it's far more natural to interpret this "この鬼が!" line simply as something like—how do I put it—a "contradiction" joke, where right after Eika says "鬼よりも酷い!" (i.e. Marisa's cruelty > oni's), she adds "この鬼が!", which is literally "You oni!" (i.e. Marisa's cruelty = oni's), bringing about a self-contradiction which is fairly funny.

I've just edited the 鬼 parts back to what they used to be. --Tackmyn (talk) 08:59, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
