Marisa is a really strong character. Her forward attack is really useful: it deals spread out stars, is long range with a good DPS. So she could easily kill a group of enemies forward, for any type of map, if you increase her max SP. Her downward attack shoots stars more rapidly and focused, ideal to increased the DPS for close distance enemies. She is also great against close flying enemies with her upward attack throws stars in an upward arc and her melee attack which strikes upward, very useful for repelling flying enemies. Her downward attack is also effected by gravity, so she can also kill monster at the bottom, at mid distance. Her charge attack deal heavy damage, but she is motionless during the cast which takes a long time. So it's hard to use it safely. Her only downfall would be her weight (get it?), as she falls more rapidly than most characters leaving her difficult for tight platforming.

Rumia is a really useful character. With her upwards and downwards attacks, she could hit all the enemies in the screen, in any types of map, because theses attack go through the wall. So she is a rare character in the game, who can deal properly in all situations. She is particularly useful during the boss fight, where she can always hit the boss, even during the bullet hell phase. The downfall is that her attacks do only small damage, except at close range when the enemies is hitting by two bullet at the time, and at long range, you need precision in order to hit the enemies. Moreover she have small HP ans SP max. These weakness can be easily compensate with some SP and HP orb, because you get her really early in the game. And with more SP, you can spam quickly and during a long time her upwards and downwards attacks, then deals an heavy DPS. Rumia is also very small, and move quite fast, so is easier to dodge bullets with her. Her forwards attack is like Reimu, a very focus attack, only useful for ground enemy, and with lower DPS compared to Reimu. Her charge attack is easy to use, but do not really more damage that her standard attack. Her melee attack is weak, with average damage and very short range.

Her charge attack is hard to use, because it is really close range, and the damage is quite average, without abilities orb.

Daiyousei is useful for platforming like most of the very small character. Her ice attack could be really strong too, with great DPS, but hard to use, because of the low range, and the explosion timing. It is ideal with stuck enemies, where you can easily hit them with the projectile and get them in the explosion too. But you cannot deal with long range enemies and it's hard to deal with enemies which go forward. With low hp, she could have a really strong DPS, particularly with the charge attack. It is really usefull against the boss, when he land after a bullet hell phase. Her attack melee is can be pretty good, with a good dps with a fast spam and good damage, but with the low max HP, a very short range and her average movement speed, it is dangerous.

Meiling is a really strong character, with a really great DPS in a large spread area and attacks in all direction which go through walls. The downfall is that it is only effective at mid range. The projectile fades away before long range, and only deals small damage at close range. At mid-range the projectile slows down and do multiple hits. She can also spam her range attack really fast, so Meiling can kill a large group of enemy really quick at mid distance, in all the situation. She is really useful in boss fight, where she could do good damage during the flying phase, if the boss is close enough. Meiling is really strong against any enemy which don't come forward quickly, or stay at really long distance. If an enemy come to close, she can use her melee attack which does strong damage and knock back. She is quite slow, so go back or rush an enemy for melee fight is not really efficient, but you can swap with another character in order to do this.
