The Shattered Sky/Characters
Most of the characters in The Shattered Sky are original and non-existent in the Touhou Project. The following three are, however, officially part of the Touhou Project and are playable characters in The Shattered Sky, each with two different shot types. The stage 1 midboss and boss, Phantasm stage boss, and Heaven stage midboss are also official characters, while the stage 3 midbosses and boss originate from Mystical Power Plant. All other characters are the originals.
Shrine Maiden of Paradise
Reimu Hakurei Reimu is the Shrine Maiden of the Hakurei Shrine at the eastern border of Gensokyo. She is very straightforward, optimistic, and curious. Even though she looks very friendly, it's easy to make her angry. |
Ordinary Magician

Newbie Goddess of the Mountain
Sanae Kochiya Sanae migrated to Gensokyo from the outer world together with the Moriya Shrine. She is a distant descendant from Suwako Moriya and basically a small god herself. For the Moriya Shrine, she is something like a shrine maiden. |

Sayuri Katsuki (火月 さゆり Katsuki Sayuri) is the stage 2 midboss and boss, stage 5 midboss, and Extra stage midboss.
Concept
- Name
Her given name Sayuri (さゆり) is a reference to a concubine of Sassa Narimasa. She was killed along with her 18 family members after she was suspected of infidelity, and is said to have become a vengeful spirit as a result. It is fabled that if one chants "Sayuri, Sayuri" at a riverbank late at night, the ghost of a woman's disembodied head with disheveled hair will appear.
Her surname Katsuki (火月) means "fiery moon".
Story
Sayuri is ultimately the instigator of the falling meteor incident. Prior to the events of the game, she trashed Soujouko's shrine, which provoked her to punish Gensokyo for its disrespect towards the gods. During the storyline, Sayuri crosses paths with the heroine multiple times, each time warning her not to get involved with the incident.
After the incident is resolved, Sayuri is met once again in the Extra stage. She claims innocence and attacks the heroine for her constant intrusion. Afterwards, she is said to have left Gensokyo via the weakened barrier.

Suzuka Mikami (見神 鈴鹿 Mikami Suzuka) is the Heaven stage boss.
Concept
Suzuka is loosely based on ZUN, the creator of the Touhou Project.
- Name
Her given name Suzuka (鈴鹿) is a Japanese given name and toponym that comprises the kanji for "bell" and "deer".
Her surname Mikami (見神) means "beatific vision"; in other words, the direct visual perception of God.
Story
Suzuka is a juvenile divine spirit with the passive ability to affect the real world through her dreams, which are actually real-time projections of alternate worlds. She exists alone in a dimension normally inaccessible to anyone or anything else, but due to her dreams bringing her world closer to Gensokyo, the Hakurei barrier was weakened. This resulted in the boundaries between Gensokyo, the outside world, and Suzuka's world being blurred, allowing anyone with enough determination to travel between them.
Suzuka recognizes the heroine from her dream and is taken aback, amazed at getting to meet one of her idols in the flesh. On the contrary, the heroine is determined to defeat and send off Suzuka in order to restore the boundary to its original state. Suzuka is determined to enter Gensokyo, and challenges the heroine to a long, final danmaku battle.
Upon defeat, Suzuka is reduced to tears. She is disheartened at being unable to enter Gensokyo, but now understands that it is for the better, and is satisfied with the turnout. Following this fateful encounter, she continues observing the heroine through her dreams.
