Description of Stats and Attributes
- HP - measures how much damage the unit can take. When reduced to zero, the unit is removed from play.
- Cost - how much it costs to keep the unit in play. The current and maximum costs are displayed to the left of the Map Level, on the bottom right of the screen.
- Attack - how much damage the unit causes with it's basic attack. A sword indicates the attack deals physical damage, while a blue sparkle indicates the attack deals magical damage.
- Spell - how much damage the unit causes with it's spell attack. A sword indicates the spell deals physical damage, while a blue sparkle indicates the spell deals magical damage.
- Movement - how many spaces the unit can move each turn, if not blocked by obstacles or other units. A unit may not have more than 9 movement.
- Range - how many spaces away the unit can initiate combat with it's basic attack. A unit may not have more than 9 attack range. Eirin is an exception to this rule.
- Spell Range - how many spaces away the unit can initiate combat with it's spell attack. A unit may not have more than 9 spell range.
- Defense - reduces damage taken from physical sources. Appears to be reduced on a 1:1 ratio.
- Resist - reduces damage taken from magical sources. Appears to be reduced on a 1:1 ratio.
- Talent - measures how much experience the unit requires for each level up. From least to most, S A B C D X.
- Evasion - measures how frequently the unit negates attacks against it. From most often to least often, S A B C D X. Rank X still avoids attacks.
- Critical - measures how often the unit scores a critical hit. Critical hits cause 20% additional damage and ignore defenses. A unit may not have more than 99% Critical.
- Throw/Relocate - if triggered, the unit can move the enemy to any other square on the playing field after attacking. A unit may not have more than 99% Throw.
- AoE - measures how often the unit attacks in an area. AoE attacks also hit targets adjacent and diagonal to the original target (a bigger square). A unit may not have more than 99% AoE. Spells cannot trigger AoE.
- Extra/Dual - after attacking, the unit has a chance to be able to move and attack again. A unit may not have more than 99% Extra.
- Counter - after being attacked, the unit has a chance to attack the unit that attacked it. Counter attacks ignore how close or far away the target may be. A unit may not have more than 99% Counter.
- Inventory Space - the total number of squares in the character's inventory. The width of the item field is always 8 squares.
- The damage formula for a non-critical attack is simply the attack stat minus the relevant defensive stat.
- A character with a special ability cannot perform Criticals, Throws, AoE, Extras, or Counters.
For an in depth look at relative character stats with talent taken into consideration, see the analysis subpage.
Essential Characters
Yukari Yakumo
- While Yukari is not actually a playable character, she is still very important due to the fact that if she falls asleep, you lose.
- Gives helpful information when the party encounters a new type of enemy on the main map.
- HP= 5
- Opens gaps for the party to progress through the game.
- Can only be damaged by close range attacks or Sheep.
- Health cannot be recovered.
- When reduced to 0 HP, the field level is turned back 3 levels and the game resets with a new group of enemies on the field and all characters ready to deploy.
- Finding a new gap after a Game Over won't be possible until you return to the field level you were previously at.
Starting Characters
Reimu Hakurei
With overall good stats and the second most damaging basic attack in the game, Reimu is an invaluable unit for attacking strong foes.
Marisa Kirisame
Although Marisa lacks in damage and movement, she makes up for it by having the highest base critical chance. She also has the highest combined defensive stat growth in the game.
Sanae Kochiya
Sanae is a fairly balanced unit. Her only weakness is the inability to deal physical damage.
Sakuya Izayoi
While Sakuya is an incredible unit for the first 100 levels due to her long range, she begins to fall off due to low attack and HP growths.
Youmu Konpaku

Critical | 4% | Throw | 8% | AoE | 0% | Extra | 2% | Counter | 2% |
Youmu has high growths in all categories and possesses a very strong spell attack. Her only weakness is her range.
Recruitable Characters

Critical | 8% | Throw | 0% | AoE | 0% | Extra | 2% | Counter | 4% |
Rumia's poor attack but long range makes her suitable for finishing off weakened enemies from outside of their attack range. Give her some shoes to help with her abysmal movement speed.
Cirno
Cirno | ||||||||||||||

Attack | 9 (13) M | Movement | 4 | Range | 1

HP | 9 (16) | Talent | C | Evasion | C
Critical | 0% | Throw | 6% | AoE | 0% | Extra | 0% | Counter | 8% |
Cirno is a fairly balanced unit. Her stats at the first few levels suffer a little bit due to the perpetuation of a meme, but shes still a good unit.
Hong Meiling
With decent growths in every category but a D rank in Talent, Meiling will be playing gatekeeper for Yukari as you eventually drop her for more rewarding units.
Patchouli Knowledge
While frail, Patchouli has long-range attacks and a high chance to perform an AoE attack.
Remilia Scarlet
Remilia is worth the 2.5*lvl cost to keep in play with her high stats in every category except HP.
Flandre Scarlet
Regardless of Flandre's stats, which are already pretty good, having her in play makes everyone else critically strike 10% more often.
Letty Whiterock
With a high HP growth and an A rank in Talent, Letty easily becomes a valuable unit against high damage enemies.
Chen
Chen | ||||||||||||||
Inventory size | 85 | Cost per level | 1
Attack | 17 (12) P | Movement | 6 | Range | 1
Spell | 19 (13) P | Spell Range | 3
Defense | 1 (1) | Resist | 3 (1)
HP | 19 (14) | Talent | D | Evasion | S
Critical | 6% | Throw | 0% | AoE | 0% | Extra | 6% | Counter | 2% |
While Chen has weak growths in all categories, she is invaluable as a mobile attacker with a base 6 movement, S rank evasion, and 1 cost per level.
Alice Margatroid
Alice is another tank, like Marisa. Her defenses are only slightly worse than Marisa's, but her S rank talent and 1 cost per level means that her stats will be higher for equivalent costs.
Lunasa Prismriver
Merlin Prismriver
Her special ability is invaluable for helping newly deployed characters jump into battle or for assisting characters with poor movement. Unfortunately, her low hp and bad talent make it difficult to keep her in play.
Lyrica Prismriver
Essentially a more expensive Rumia; she has superior range, attack, and talent, but costs 50% more to deploy. She still needs shoes to help her equally terrible movement.
Yuyuko Saigyouji
Ran Yakumo
Ran Yakumo | ||||||||||||||
Inventory size | 98 | Cost per level | 1.5
Attack | 19 (12) P | Movement | 4 | Range | 1
Spell | 20 (13) M | Spell Range | 2
Defense | 3 (2) | Resist | 3 (1)
HP | 20 (15) | Talent | B | Evasion | A
Critical | 2% | Throw | 0% | AoE | 0% | Extra | 14% | Counter | 0% |
Wriggle Nightbug
Decent damage output and A talent makes Wriggle a useful unit for her low cost.
Mystia Lorelei
Mystia serves as a distraction, primarily for shikigami or characters moving towards a gap. Enemies will always target her over any other character or shikigami if in range. She has good resistance, so she can still take a few hits as well. Her extremely low cost and S rank talent nonetheless make her a potentially devastating attacker.
Keine Kamishirasawa
Keine has decent growths and the ability to hit both physical and magic, but her D talent and tendency towards throw attacks hurts her usefulness.
Tewi Inaba
Her mediocre growths and X rank talent means that Tewi will be spending her time away from the frontlines to take advantage of her special ability. Load her up on HP items to allow her to survive the wind longer.
Reisen Udongein Inaba
A physical AoE attacker with very high resistances, making her similar to Patchouli. However she is more expensive than Patchouli without much much to make up for the increased cost.
Eirin Yagokoro
While Eirin has the worst attack growth in the game, she can attack anywhere on the field, trivializing any boss stages that don't restrict ranged attacks.
Kaguya Houraisan
Fujiwara no Mokou
With the highest Counter rate and the highest HP growth, Mokou will bring down several enemies with her.
Suika Ibuki
Suika possesses the strongest basic attack in the game, and while she is on the field, all allies will do about 25% extra damage.
Original Characters
七音 琳華 (Rinka Shichine)
不幻 夢々 (Mumu Fugen)
