東方非想天則 ~ 超弩級ギニョルの謎を追え (romanized: Touhou Hisoutensoku ~ Choudokyuu Ginyoru no Nazo wo Oe, lit. "Lacking Perception of the Natural Laws of the East" or "Lacking Perception of the Rule of Heaven in the East" ~ Chase the Enigma of the Superdreadnought Guignol") is a standalone expansion pack to Scarlet Weather Rhapsody with five new characters, first released by Twilight Frontier at Comiket 76. Combining this expansion with an installation of Scarlet Weather Rhapsody allows for the use of additional Touhou characters in the new game.

Like its predecessors, Immaterial and Missing Power and Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, Touhou Hisoutensoku is a collaboration between ZUN and Twilight Frontier.

The game is labeled as Touhou 12.3 because its events occur after those in Undefined Fantastic Object, though the full version of the latter was released at the same time as this game.

Gameplay

Touhou Hisoutensoku retains the same spell cards, spirit orbs, and weather present in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, but also introduces new playable characters, spell cards, and weathers. Many existing spell cards, weathers and graphics from Scarlet Weather Rhapsody have been altered and in addition to the new characters, existing characters all have new spell cards. Additionally, each playable character now has a system card (e.g. healing, weather change, bombs, etc.) associated with her that's usable by any character once unlocked.

Story

A mysterious giant is seen wandering around Gensokyo. It can suddenly appear and can just as suddenly vanish seemingly without a trace. Everyone who sees it becomes curious and wonders about the truth behind this strange sight. Sanae Kochiya, Cirno, and Hong Meiling each have their own fears and dreams about the giant, and each sets out in pursuit of this roaming behemoth.

Exploring the Forest of Magic, the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and other locations in Gensokyo, the heroines face many challenges and obstacles in their pursuit of a mystery that's far deeper than it first appears.

Connection to Scarlet Weather Rhapsody

As Touhou Hisoutensoku is an expansion to Scarlet Weather Rhapsody at its heart, it includes a method of "connecting" your 12.3 install with your 10.5 characters and data. Open up configex123 in your Touhou Hisoutensoku directory and look for a line saying [th105path]. Change the path you see to your SWR directory and then execute th123.exe. Go to Vs Com to confirm that the rest of the cast have indeed been unlocked. Decks and other unlocks will not be carried over via this method.

Alternatively, by placing both games in the same folder, upon first running Touhou Hisoutensoku, cards from SWR will be imported. If you have already begun playing, you can delete your score123.dat file, which will erase all cards you have unlocked thus far in Touhou Hisoutensoku.

In some instances, Alice and Patchouli will not be available after this; simply clear Cirno and Meiling's story modes on any difficulty to get them to appear.

Trivia

  • Early discussions about this game in English-speaking fan communities referred to the title as "Unthinkable Natural Law", an early translation which has since been dropped in favor of the current one. J-List sells the game under the title "Guignol Quest".
  • Wriggle Nightbug and Nitori Kawashiro were originally slated to appear in the game, but were scrapped due to time restraints. Kaguya Houraisan and Fujiwara no Mokou were also considered, but it was decided that they were too strong. Instead, Tasofro decided to put in mostly weak characters, as they would humorously face off against the very powerful characters featured in IaMP (most every mainstream character was featured there). Sanae Kochiya was added instead of these possibilities, and perhaps made as weak as she is on purpose.
  • If a player using Reimu activates Fantasy Heaven successfully on a third round, her theme will be replaced by a remixed version similar to the style of Hokuto no Ken(Fist of the North Star). See this video.

SokuPlus

Soku Plus (also known as Soku+) is a fan made patch featuring a number of changes to the gameplay, including new moves and combos, as well as changes to existing moves and new game mechanics.
It's currently in beta stage.
