Who does what?

I'm seeing quite a few people put their names down, and have a certain amount of material. Starting to think about who does what, and also putting out dates on which we think we'll finish a portion of the work would be a good thing(As to avoid this project going on for a year without anything getting done). I own Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red as well as Curiosities of Lotus Asia, I see other people have PMiSS, GoM, and CiLR(Which I own as well). I suppose a good place for me to start would be with either BAiJ or CoLA. What does everyone think? --Sefam 04:45, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

The basic idea is, someone can elect to begin transcribing one work (book, etc.), and keeps track of their progress on the project page. As their transcribing work progresses, someone else can go through and translate the pages that've been transcribed. As they're done sequentially, if a transcriber wants to take a break and let someone else fill in, it'll easy to do since the new transcriber can just jump in after the last transcribed page. I'd recommend we focus on no more than a couple works at a time, since the key bottleneck in this project will be able, willing and motivated transcribers. If transcription progress is halted at a certain page, the translation work can't move forward past that page. Momiji 04:51, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

I see that PMiSS has multiple different sections to it (e.g. youkai, fairy, heroic legends, locations, etc.) so I was going to suggest that those who own PMiSS can take one section for their own and work on it. As for GoM, maybe we can tackle it by doing the same thing, only with each transcribers working on different characters?Deathsoul4 04:55, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

I feel like participating the members or Resourses and checking some articles. What am I to do? And, is there a rule as the time limit, distribution of work, etc.? In the first place, what criterion should resources clear? --masuo64 Talk 12:51, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

I might not be able to get my materials before saturday next week, they are at home whilst I'm at my apartment, besides, I wouldn't have the time to work on transcribing, exam week is coming up and i have projects to finish. Same situation here (i.e. location of materials + exam week + reports & projects = madness, here I come RoK, wait till I get there!!), probably will get going around early second week of december (around december 9th). Guys, this was probably forgotten by now, but my original plan when I put forward the idea for this project was to have multiple people collaborating on a translation at the same time. By doing it this way, and then by having another editor come in afterwards to check, there's a lot more we can accomplish in terms of translation quality and accuracy. Just a heads up, but I've already gone through and revised PMiSS, CoLA, CiLR very recently and I'm currently working on the music CDs and I was thinking about doing BAiJR after that. Barring some glaring transcription error, I think those don't need as much focus. Maybe we should make the ZUN interviews and comments a priority. NForza 04:57, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Getting this started...

Now that NaNoWriMo is over, I'm going to go ahead and push this to the rest of the site for public view. It still needs some descriptive and layout work, so I'll finish what I need to on it while the rest of the known materials are collated, then we can get this underway! The project still doesn't make sense for me.

Does this mean something Like: -First: Copy/Transcribe(for videos) the Japanese text from Manga/Book/Game/Video. (Ex: Copy the Japanese text from IN) -Second: Organize the Japanese Text in tables. -Third: Re-translate?

The "first, second, third" are just stages in the progress template. There's two basic steps for the project: first, transcribe the text, whether it exists on the wiki already or not (since some may be incorrect); second, translate the newly transcribed text, whether or not it was translated previously (since the transcription process could render the translations incorrect). As far as the DProg template goes, those steps are "first" and "second", and "third" is for when that specific book/etc. is done with the main work. That's the basic gist of it. Chronological order

Should we try and stay chronological while doing all this? I'm not talking absolutely strictly chronological, but in terms of "okay, we're going to start with the pc-98 era, and then when we're mostly finished we'll move on to EoSD~PCB or so," etc. Just thought I'd ask, since we are using this project to make sure all the details on the wiki are accurate and everything. I think the order should start with TD, and go down to the PC-98, since the later games and manga are the more visited on the wiki. Just my opinion. Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 00:47, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
On the other hand, one could say to start with pc-98 so we get organized and know what we're doing, and then move up from there. Also, the current state of the wiki is okay to leave for now, I think, in terms of the more popular articles here. Darkslime 17:33, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Starting with earlier works will help to weed out any bugs in this process and get some practice in before moving to articles with much more traffic. Also, the game manuals/scripts are one issue, but the original reason for this project was missing/incomplete info from the books. Momiji 09:16, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

For some comic books...

OK, I'm about to start some retranscription work on Oriental Sacred Place (the storyline is pretty good btw - I'm enjoying it), but I need some advice with how to retranscribe them: The articles for OSP aren't like articles of game scripts or articles of official CD musics, like this one where you have scripts/storylines written out on each page and all you've to do is type the japanese text into the article. Instead, OSP has links to downloading the scanned pages of the printwork. It is indeed hard to make it look good. I think it just should be transcribed in a: <Character (Japanese name): "sentence"> way, and every text-ballon is a new part. If it would be in TranslateTable it will look like this:

霊夢 「どうしたら妖怪達を追い返せるのかなぁ。」

Reimu "How can I kick these youkai out...?" <what actually is said by the characters>

When there is third-person commentary it should not be added. Another thing is that I think images hould not be added to the wiki. (Maybe only to illustrate a small part, but not a whole scan.) ☢ Quwanti 22:34, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

I think that adding these tables should mainly be for verifying transcriptions and translations - I do not exactly think that it is necessary to make the story entirely understandable from the text alone.--Tosiaki 03:27, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

So you're suggesting that we only use this to check/compare transcriptions and translations? I thought it would be fine if we had a transcription/translation page for OSP just like that for Cage in Lunatic Runagate. But yeah it may seem redundant as there are translated versions out there as well... Well, I guess the next step would be to update the translations in the images as well, although it might also be good if those that host the translation elsewhere could also be notified about the update (maybe - or maybe it is not necessary).
