Most of the characters in Treasure Castle Labyrinth are original and non-existent in the Touhou Project. The following six, however, officially part of the Touhou Project and are playable characters in Treasure Castle Labyrinth, as part of three playable teams with two characters each. All other characters are original.
Abilities: Mainly capable of flying in the sky
The resident shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine.
She's well-liked by just about everyone, but she herself doesn't have much interest in other people. (Same goes for her friend Marisa, though.)
She's thoroughly fed up with rumors and urban legends, but she believes that solving the incident this time will be a prime opportunity for the Hakurei Shrine to cast off its unfortunate reputation as a "youkai shrine", bring in visitors just like any other regular shrine would, and make a huge profit.
Thus, she sets off on an adventure with Tenshi in search of treasure.
七色を纏う天人お嬢様 Celestial Mistress Clad in Seven Colors
Abilities: Capable of manipulating the earth
A celestial maiden from Bhava-agra.
Despite thinking of herself as a high and noble being, she has the smell of your average human all over her.
She's not particularly interested in the get-rich-quick schemes of Earth-dwellers, but since she's bored and she's gotten booted down to Earth a lot recently, she heads out to search for treasure with Reimu.
According to her, "this sort of thing could be nice every once in a while!", but...?
Secretly, she's hoping that they find some delicious gourmet food.
Abilities: Capable of using magic
An ordinary magician. Fairly strong, as humans go.
She's obsessed with collecting things, and sometimes makes weird magic items.
She heads out in search of the treasure's whereabouts with fellow magician Hijiri, but the only objective she has is to pocket any rare stuff they happen to find.
She's also taking her newly-built Magic Slave out for a test run.
Abilities: Capable of using magic (specializing in magic that increases her physical abilities)
A monk, and magician, residing in the Myouren Temple.
Her exact religious affiliation is unclear, but for all intents and purposes, she's a Buddhist.
Because Shou has been attracting a strange excess of faith, she's been collecting the tricolor lanterns that people have been sharing rumors about. She was actually in the middle of discussing the matter with Miko, but since Miko hasn't done anything yet, she decides to take matters into her own hands.
Abilities: Capable of causing miracles
A shrine maiden who lives at the Moriya Shrine, atop the Youkai Mountain.
There hasn't much been going on lately-- not even the shrine's usual rituals-- so she has a lot of free time.
When she stopped by the Divine Spirit Mausoleum while investigating the rumors, Futo happened to tell some lies about how "this must be an incident!". She latches on to this, and figuring that she may as well get some exercise, casually decides to venture into the great labyrinth.
古代豪族が遺した負の遺産 Bitter Legacy Bequeathed by the Ancient Nobles
Species: Human? (Taoist who self-identifies as a shikaisen)
Abilities: Capable of manipulating feng shui
A Tao practitioner, and member of the ancient Mononobe clan. Currently resides in the Divine Spirit Mausoleum.
She's smart, but out of touch with history and most conversation topics, and frequently does misguided things.
There's been no end to the strange rumors as of late (which is business as usual, honestly), but since Miko hasn't lifted a finger, she's begun to suspect that something peculiar is afoot. Sanae happens to visit right around then, so as usual, she decides to take credit for solving things and goads Sanae into coming along.

Stage 1 Boss
Extra Midboss
Tsumugi Enishi in Treasure Castle Labyrinth
Goddess who Ties Knots of Pure Joy Merry Lady Benten of White Gold More Character Titles
Tsumugi Enishi is the Stage 1 Midboss and Boss, and Extra Stage Midboss.
Concept
Tsumugi is based on Benzaiten (弁才天), the Japanese Buddhist god adapted from the Indian Saraswati. Benzaiten was associated as a protector deity for Japan due to her depiction in the Sutra of Golden Light. She is also considered part of the Seven Lucky Gods.
Due to Benzaiten also being referred to as a god of love, Tsumugi also has references to the Chinese concept of the red thread of fate, which associates the idea of true love with invisible "red strings" tying people together; This conflation of ideas is displayed through her design and music theme.
Name
Her full name is Tsumugi Enishi (江西 紬). "紬" (Tsumugi), a common female given name, as well as surname, is the Japanese word for pongee, a thin woven cloth produced in China as an exportable good. Her name sounds similar to the verb "tsumugu" (紡ぐ) which means "to weave".
"江西" (Enishi) refers to the Chinese province of Jiangxi, which was originally used as a trade route due to its proximity to the Gan River. The kanji used mean "river" (in archaic form), and "South". It's also homophone to the common noun "enishi" (縁) which means 'a destiny, relationship or bond'.
Species: God
Ability: Capable of weaving relationships together
An extremely ordinary god. She's called Benzaiten by most people, but she herself doesn't grant any particularly large blessings or divine favors. She greets everyone with a cheery smile, and never leaves them with a bad impression.
She has the ability to scoop up the invisible threads of people's relationships as they flow along, and literally tie them together. By doing so, she can bring about new events, or create points of contact between people who didn't know each other before. But her abilities can't control anything that happens beyond that point, so she just watches over them from afar.
Extra Stage Midboss Merry Lady Benten of White Gold
Tsumugi Enishi
It's finally the night of the summer festival!
At times like this, you've gotta go all-out. Leave no bit of fun un-experienced!
So it's no problem if she gets shot down. What matters is letting everyone enjoy the show.
San Alkaloid
サン・アルカロイド San Alkaloid
San Alkaloid in Treasure Castle Labyrinth
The Spirit Butterfly that Became a Fantasy More Character Titles
San is based on the legend of the chōkeshin, a type of butterfly containing the spirits of people who recently passed from illness. One part of the legend states that having any chōkeshin in close proximity of a person served as a forewarning for that person's death.
Name
Her full name is San Alkaloid (サン・アルカロイド). San comes from her earlier name; San Kirichou (奇李蝶 蚕), where San was spelt with the kanji for "silkworm", Alkaloid refers to a type of organic compound containing nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur that is created from various plants and animals.
Appearance
Title
The word "霊蝶" (reichou, "spirit butterfly") in her title is a pun on "霊長" (reichou, "primate"). In older iterations of TCL's story, San was a species of hominid-like butterfly that had been hunted to extinction.
Personality
In her official profile, it states that she is pretty dumb.

Stage 2 Boss The Spirit Butterfly who Became a Fantasy
San Alkaloid
Species: Chōkeshin
Ability: Capable of tying life and death together
A rare sort of youkai, who was reborn from a human soul into a butterfly while crossing through the ages. She used to be a human from a very old era, but thanks to the many reincarnations she's passed through, as well as the various traditional stories people tell about butterflies, she gained the ability to tie the boundaries of life and death together. She's very dumb, though, so she doesn't know how to use it well.
Her job is to guide the spirits of people's ancestors when they appear on Obon, let them interact with the living people, then return them to the spirit world. As such, she always appears in summer. Nobody really knows what she's doing during the other seasons. This makes her rather similar to the fairies of Gensokyo despite their different origins, so Reimu and co. mistook her for a regular old fairy.
Her presence actually serves as a bit of a butterfly effect for the protagonists. Thanks to encountering her, they each created a different thread of fate.
Seki is based on Yu the Great (大禹), a legendary king in ancient China who was famed for "the first successful state efforts at flood control", his establishment of the Xia dynasty which inaugurated dynastic rule in China, and his upright moral character.
Name
Her full name is Umishige no Seki (海重乃 汐). "汐" (Seki) is the archaic Kan-on pronunciation for the word "tide". "海重乃" (Umishige) uses the characters for "ocean" and "weight", as well as the character 乃 (no), which is analogous to the similarly-pronounced hiragana character の; this indicates a "belonging" to the preceding name, making the English equivalent to Seki's name be "Seki, of the Umishige family", much like how ancient Japanese aristocrats would have their full names read out in similar fashion as a means of referencing their clan.
Species: Celestial
Ability: Capable of manipulating oxygen
The administrator of Heaven's oasis region.
She used to be a human from mainland Asia, known as "the king of flood suppression".
She surpassed Nirvana and became a Celestial through sheer blood, sweat and tears, so her way of thinking is close to most humans, and unlike most other Celestials, she respects the humans who live down on the ground.
She's always been swelteringly hot-headed, dutiful, and rigidly obstinate. As such, she marched right on into the oasis region that nobody else would go near, and declared herself its manager.
A massive network of ruins had recently been unearthed from the depths of the Heavenly Oasis, and she was greatly troubled by the sight of Earth-dwelling humans hurriedly fleeing soon after they entered. She used her ability to temporarily knock the would-be explorers unconscious, then borrowed the power of Gensokyo's sages to return them to the ground below.
When most onlookers came by, she displayed her abilities in order to chase them away, fearing that more people would come to foolishly explore the ruins. But when the Hakurei shrine maiden, another celestial, a pair of magicians, a living god and a Taoist came by, she decided to fight them herself to prove that they weren't just ordinary rubberneckers.
After praying that these new visitors would be able to uncover the true nature of these mysterious ruins, she returned to her usual work of chasing away would-be gawkers.
Banka Shippou is the Stage 4 boss, as well as one of the Stage 6 midbosses on Lunatic.
Concept
Banka is based on the buddha Prabhutaratna (lit. "abundant treasures"), who appears in the Lotus Sutra to verify the teachings of Shakyamuni. Prabhutaratna is described as sitting in an unimaginably large stupa that emerges from beneath the earth, and many "Bodhisattvas of the Earth" likewise emerge from a fissure in response to his and Shakyamuni's meeting.
Name
Her full name is Banka Shippou (七宝 万華). "Banka" is spelt with kanji meaning "ten thousand/a great many" and "flower".
"Shippou" literally means "seven treasures", as in the seven treasures associated with Prabhutaratna.
Species: Buddha
Ability: Capable of seeing all timelines
The leader of a super-advanced civilization that existed in ancient times.
Her ability lets her see every event that could possibly happen, and she's sometimes said to have provided guidance to another Buddha who reached enlightenment.
She arrived from a parallel world-- 'a kingdom located far, far to the East'-- having been tasked with providing guidance to a super-ancient civilization that's said to have predated modern-day humans.
At this point in Earth's history, the ancient humans were waging war against each other. In order to put a stop to it and grant divine revelation to them, she transformed herself into a weapon in much the same way that they had.
The Ancients (as we'll call them) had all cast aside their human forms, and transferred their souls into small machines known as "Cores". These Cores sleep within the ruins to this day, fused to the walls and floor, with some having turned into crystals. The ruins are essentially alive, albeit in perpetual hibernation.
Though the ruins were carefully camouflaged and left abandoned for many years, the next era of hominids eventually discovered them, excavated them, and carved out a series of rock-cut temples. Banka awoke from hibernation upon sensing this, and found herself in the distant future.
She revived her two attendants, saw how far the new hominids had flourished, and resolved to guide mankind once again.
Unfortunately, the new humans were just as prone to war as the old ones.
A religious schism arose in Banka's followers, which soon blossomed into an all-out war. Banka was badly injured, blamed herself for the war, and vowed to never use her powers of clairvoyance again.
After leaving the ruins in the hands of her two attendants, she went back into hibernation.
When she next awoke, the ruins were now located in an unfamiliar desert land.
Where am I? How did we get here?
She used her clairvoyance for the first time in ages in order to find out the answer, and her vision was filled with all the past, present and future events that would occur in this new land.
"This place, known as Gensokyo, will soon be destroyed by an incomprehensible force."
Obviously, she hurriedly tried to find a way to stop this, but she had been left all alone in the ruins with no sign of her attendants anywhere. Without the strength to do anything but wait, she simply prayed at the top of her lungs for someone to come and change this future.
And at last, the future she foresaw began to arrive...
Shin'ya is based on the character Pipa Jing in Investiture of the Gods-- a femme-fatale spirit born from a jade pipa-- as well as the corresponding character "Ou Kijin" in the Japanese manga Houshin Engi.
Name
Her full name is Shin'ya Ouki (王貴 人也). "Shin'ya" is spelt with kanji meaning "person" and "to be", while "Ouki" is spelt with kanji meaning "king" and "noble". Three of these four kanji are taken directly from Wang Guiren (王 貴人 / "Ou Kijin" in Japanese), another name for Pipa Jing.
Appearance
Her appearance takes particularly heavy inspiration from that of Ou Kijin in Houshin Engi.

Species: Youkai
Ability: Capable of attuning sounds (perfect pitch)
A Chinese pipa (biwa) youkai who's assumed a human form.
You could say she's the Chinese version of a tsukumogami.
Unlike Japanese tsukumogami, she became a youkai after being bathed in moonlight for several hundred years.
Her catchphrase is "I'll pluck you to ribbons".
The melodies that she plays harbor various magical powers, and she can discern the locations and qualities of objects just by hearing their sound. She can use just about anybody's music to echolocate, but with music that she performs by herself, she can go so far as to manipulate her opponent's movements, no matter who they are. "Plucking her opponent to ribbons" means "slaying her opponent while puppeting them".
The text of a particular novel refers to her and Himeka as stepsisters, who worked together to plunge a kingdom into ruin. In reality, they were a pair of wild youkai who just happened to get along, and were employed by Banka as her attendants since the time of the super-ancient civilization.
They didn't trust Banka at first, but swore their loyalty to her after she passionately defended them from the Ancients who tried to vanquish them.
While Banka was hibernating, Shin'ya and Himeka discussed a rather unsettling discovery that they'd made.
A mysterious, gelatinous liquid had been dwelling deep below the ruins since the time of the Ancients.
The two of them had hurriedly lied to Banka about the ruins being "completely safe and sound", out of their desire to let Banka sleep peacefully and heal, but when they ventured back down to check...
Was it just their imagination, or did the mysterious liquid have a *heartbeat*?
They took a deep breath, prodded the liquid, and were shocked to see it morph into two humanoid forms and start talking.
"Good day and good night to you, little residents of this planet!
We've come to wipe the planet's surface nice and tidy clean."
Banka's attendants talked to the gelatinous creatures for some time, not yet realizing that they were alien life-forms. Upon seeing the hibernating Cores, the aliens gave the attendants a proposal.
They called it the "Terran Utopia Project", and though Shin'ya and Himeka didn't know it, it would soon put a fracture in the pair's relationship.
Despite the pair's obvious objections, one of the two aliens announced that they'd be using one of the two of them as a guinea pig for the project... and Himeka raised her hand.
Shin'ya couldn't understand why Himeka would sacrifice herself like that. Himeka effectively became both the aliens' hostage and their test subject, and a furious Shin'ya decided to sabotage the aliens' plan with or without Banka's help.
She secretly leaked information about the ruins to the humans outside, thereby prompting the humans to excavate and modify the ruins. This proved inconvenient for the aliens' plan, and they eventually decided to change the target of their plan to "Gensokyo" instead.
Meanwhile, Shin'ya searched for someone strong enough to scuttle the aliens' plan for good, while worrying about her sleeping master and her lost friend all the while.
And at last... the candidates she was searching for showed up right in front of her.
Himeka is based on the characters Daji and Jiutou Zhiji Jing in Investiture of the Gods-- a pair of femme-fatale spirits respectively born from a fox and a pheasant-- as well as the corresponding characters "So Dakki" and "Ko Kibi" in the Japanese manga Houshin Engi.
She also incorporates Taisui Xingjun, a disaster-bringing god said to rule over the stars opposite Jupiter and their associated zodiac cycle. Tai Sui is sometimes depicted as a mass of flesh buried underground, and the phrase "太歳頭上動土" ("moving the earth over Tai Sui's head) is an idiom for "getting in trouble too deep for one to deal with".
Name
Her full name is Himeka Kou (黄 妃己). "Himeka" is spelt with kanji meaning "queen/empress" and "self", and is visually similar to the Chinese name "Daji" (妲己). "Kou" is spelt with the kanji for "yellow".
Appearance
Her appearance may take some inspiration from that of Ko Kibi and So Dakki in Houshin Engi.
Title
Her title literally translates to "the single wing who shouldered great sin". "Great sin" (大罪) is pronounced "taizai", which may be an intentional play on "taisai" (太歳 / Tai Sui).
Stage 5 Boss B One-Winged Bird who Shouldered Cosmic Sin
Himeka Kou
Species: Youkai (+ Tai Sui)
Ability: Capable of manipulating directions (skilled in astrology-board divination)
A pheasant youkai, though she's mysteriously missing one wing.
Long ago, she was a close friend of a particular era's queen consort, and they often switched places with each other. She became acquainted with Shin'ya around this time.
Banka and Shin'ya's profiles already cover most of the story, so let's talk about Himeka specifically.
Before meeting Shin'ya, she had one of her wings burnt off at the hands of humans who feared her.
She was rescued by the queen consort of a particular kingdom, who happened to look a lot like her, and who happened to have a name that was similar to "Himeka".
The pheasant youkai didn't yet have a name of her own, but the two of them bridged the gap between species to form a strong friendship. She and "Himeka" often disguised themselves as each other, tricking the kingdom's people and playing together in secret.
But because the queen was only human, the time soon came for her to depart this world.
Before she passed away, "Himeka" gave her own name to the pheasant youkai. Perhaps she'd been waiting for a moment when she could do it. She gave her royal name to a lowly youkai, purely out of simple self-satisfaction, and as a symbol of their friendship.
The youkai, now named Himeka, vowed to never forget the queen or her new name, which she hid away deep inside her heart.
Soon afterward, she was approached by Shin'ya, one of the few people who knew about her and the queen.
The era of the Ancients was reaching its end, with the arrival of an otherworldly figure meant to guide humanity down the right path. According to Shin'ya, this figure hoped to find allies.
Himeka was skeptical at first, but upon hearing that Banka was sheltering and caring for abandoned youkai, she decided to live with Banka and co. from now on. She wouldn't make the same mistake that she did with "Himeka" again.
Alas, mankind's war went on without end.
As she saw Banka throwing herself in harm's way and suffering blow after blow to defend the youkai, Himeka flashed back to her own past self. When Banka went into hibernation, she volunteered to defend the ruins alongside Shin'ya.
Several thousand years later, Shin'ya revealed the mysterious liquid beneath the ruins.
Upon prodding it, it mimicked a humanoid form and spoke to them.
"We wanna make a really great paradise for the widdle humans!
So if it's okay, we'd love for you to co-wopper-ate with us!"
Aliens who flew here from another planet.
The most self-centered attitude possible, with no concern for what happens to the rest of the Earth.
And on top of that, they even declared that they'd be turning one of the youkai into a mutant guinea pig for the sake of their "project".
Shin'ya was furious, but Himeka was determined.
She wasn't going to let them take Shin'ya hostage...!
Himeka whispered a brief apology to "Himeka"... and swallowed the bizarre, fleshy thing that the aliens held out to her.
The 'thing' was a Tai Sui: a wicked star of misfortune and disaster, and one of several gods that'd been sealed away by a Crown Prince in a particular novel. Its power threatened to swallow her whole.
In a stroke of luck, the memories of "Himeka" within her heart took the brunt of the Tai Sui's corruption.
Though she lost her memories of the queen, Himeka remained in her right mind, and simply pretended to be under the aliens' control.
She helped advance their project while secretly plotting a way to sabotage it, all for the sake of defeating the aliens. After a long time spent waiting, Shin'ya finally succeeded in moving the ruins and the aliens' project to a suitable location.
---All we've gotta do now is find the perfect candidate.
That's all she thought, as she continued releasing her miasma into the vicinity of the ruins.
OAuth takes inspiration from "Mia Auth" (ミア=オース), the Stage 1 boss of doujin STG TWilight INSanity, and her counterpart "Mimi Auth" (ミミ=オース), the Stage 4 boss of its sequel TWilight refrAIN. Both characters are "gatekeeper" droids with green color schemes, who use circle and cross shapes in their danmaku.
Name
Her full name is OAuth Shin (心 凹守). "OAuth" is taken from the OAuth ("Open Authorization") internet protocol, and is rendered in Japanese with the kanji for "concave" and "protect", together pronounced "oosu". It also incorporates the English word "oath".
The surname "Shin" is spelt with the kanji for "heart", and is shared with her creators Amane and Tenxka. The Japanese text of the game deliberately uses the Nihon-shiki / Kunrei-shiki romanization "Sin", for its similarity to the English word "sin".
Appearance
The overall appearance of her clothing may be inspired by the various costumes of sennin characters in the Japanese manga Houshin Engi.
The fishing lure she carries with her is inspired by Taigong Wang in Investiture of the Gods, as well as the corresponding character "Taikoubou" in Houshin Engi.
Species: Artificial life-form
Ability: Capable of swearing loyalty
An Earth-model artificial life-form created by the Shin sisters.
Her body was constructed by Tenxka, and her mind was programmed by Amane.
Thanks to her programming permeating through her, she physically resembles Amane as well.
She's the one who chased away the regular humans who set foot into the ruins.
She's tasked with heavily surveilling the ruins to protect the Shin sisters' project, but the human-and-superhuman pair that arrived completely ignored her.
Once they breached the ship's core, she switched into emergency mode and began attacking them whole-heartedly.
OAuth is a life-form that the Shin sisters built as a trial run of the Terran Utopia Project: a prototype of their new primordial humanity, born after exhaustive and thorough experimentation.
Though she can boot up and run smoothly at first, she's not perfect, and inevitably breaks down after encountering a fatal error. The Shin sisters have had to rebuild and tweak her settings several times.
After the conclusion of the main game, she seems to develop a mind of her own.
Her backstory takes particularly heavy inspiration from that of Nüwa in Houshin Engi, as well as various other extraterrestrial "predecessor races" in Japanese sci-fi franchises such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, RahXephon and the Brave series.
Name
Her full name is Amane Shin (心 天音). "Amane" is spelt with the kanji for "heaven" and "sound"; it's also similar to the adverb "amaneku" (遍く) which means "vast" or "widespread", in the sense of the vastness of outer space.
The surname "Shin" is spelt with the kanji for "heart", and is shared with her sister Tenxka. The Japanese text of the game deliberately uses the Nihon-shiki / Kunrei-shiki romanization "Sin", for its similarity to the English word "sin".
Appearance
The curtain-like appearance of her skirt is partly inspired by the creature "Walpurgisnacht" in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which wears a curtain-like dress over a giant gear that serves as a theatre stage.
Title
Her title includes the neologism "星極" (seikyoku), spelt with the kanji for "star" and "extremity/pole". This may be intended as a homophone of "正極" (positive pole) or "政局" (political situation).

Amane Shin
Species: Extraterrestrial
Ability: Capable of manipulating the reversibility of matter
An alien who flew here from the furthest reaches of fantasy, one that mankind has never even dreamed of.
Arrived on Earth in the era of the super-ancient civilization.
She's the brains behind the "Gensokyo Utopia Project" incident, but her thought processes are utterly incomprehensible to anyone besides her elder sister.
40 billion years ago, an intelligent species somewhere in the universe created a sapient, colony-based life-form, designed for the specific task of surveilling other life-forms.
Basically, she's a fundamentally different species from anything else on Earth.
The galaxy and planet where she used to live were on the verge of destruction, due to endless and intractable war.
In order to prevent their total destruction, her Creators developed 'seeds of life' encoded with their own genetic information, tasked their newly-created surveillance life-forms with propagating the seeds, and flung them out into the universe.
After a millennia-long voyage drifting through space, one of the life-forms finally arrived in our solar system.
But since the Earth had only just been created, its environment was uninhabitable to the life-form, so it decided to sow the 'seeds of life' from its former planet instead.
In other words, it began raising creatures that were adapted to the planet's environment.
The life-form closely monitored the Earth for many years, until hominids that matched its Creators finally came about.
At around the same time, a divine being arrived from an otherworldly Eastern kingdom, and went about her assigned task of providing guidance to intelligent life-forms. Though she had many discussions with the new incarnation of 'humanity' and did her best to walk alongside them, its civilization blossomed horribly across the planet with the advent of war.
The first edition of humanity clawed at itself until its very last moments, and finally died out.
Having seen all of it from start to finish, the surveillance life-form concluded that if evolution stemmed from conflict, then that stem ought to be cut off.
Thus, they developed the "Terran Utopia Project".
Around the time that Banka preached her teachings to the second edition of humanity, the life-forms made contact with Banka's two familiar-creatures... but the familiar-creatures ultimately sabotaged their plan, so the life-forms went back to the drawing board with another round of hibernation.
When the life-forms opened their recently-grown eyes, their spaceship-- the "ruins"-- had been flung into an unfamiliar desert. Below that desert, they saw a peaceful world where combat was carried out by young maidens for fun, via a strange and unique culture of 'danmaku', with no lasting consequence even for the losers.
Ahh, the life-forms thought. *This* is the world they'd been dreaming of.
They monitored the new land for some time, and learned that it was called "Gensokyo".
And since its danmaku athletes all appeared to be young women, the life-forms decided to try out maidenly forms too.
It was... fun.
And because it was fun, they made up their mind to sweep the Earth's surface clean with Gensokyo's ideals.
So the life-form-- that is, Amane-- decided to start up her project again.
This time, it'd be called the "Gensokyo Utopia Project".
A perfect, heavenly world, where humans would play games instead of killing one another.
There was nobody left to get in their way.
In just a few moments, the sisters' plan would succeed.
In just a few moments, Gensokyo's memorial day would arrive.
A true Independence Day from the planet itself.
---Why, who's this? A visitor?
"Incident"?
"Resolution"?
A Spell Card duel?
Gensokyo's rules?
Oh me, oh my. If there's *rules*, that certainly changes things.
Rules exist to be followed, after all.
Miyako is based on the god Kamimusubi, the third of the first three kami to come into existence alongside Ame-no-Minakanushi and Takamimusubi, forming a trio at the beginnig of creation.

Miyako Yahouou
Species: God
Ability: Capable of governing musuhi
The god Kamimusubi, who's part of a triumvirate. She can view humans' impurity as a quantified value,
and wipe that impurity away from both their bodies and their souls.
She used to frolick atop the Outside World's beautiful oceans, along with the many shiranui lanterns that she'd
befriended, but since shiranuis have lost their place in the world due to being scientifically explained,
they all decided to move to Gensokyo.
The Treasure Lantern is her creation, and the Lamp Items are made of shiranui fire.
She's one of the oldest gods in the Shinto pantheon, and has always watched over humans' development
from backstage. When people were in trouble, she often helped or supported them from the shadows.
Eventually, mankind began to set their sights on other galaxies, coming up with rockets and other means
of leaving Earth behind. This signalled to her that her role would eventually come to an end.
Before that time came, she decided to travel the globe and enjoy as many cultures from as many lands as she could.
She felt that it was a meaningful way to spend her time.
Then, while she was wondering whether the humans would be properly looked-after in their future home,
the will-o'-wisps known as "shiranui" came to speak with her.
"We've decided to depart for Gensokyo. What about you?"
Gensokyo.
She'd heard about a land with that name, but hadn't visited it yet...
Were there humans to look after there, too?
Maybe they'd still need her there.
After a long internal debate, she decided to enter the realm of fantasy with a large party of shiranui.
Upon entering Gensokyo, she sensed an utterly horrific amount of impurity in a particular region.
She met Seki at the oasis there, listened to her concerns, and ultimately decided to create the Treasure Lanterns.
Her shiranui companions served as the lights that lit and guided the Lanterns.
This light is the glimmer of life itself.
I won't let it be sullied. Not by anyone.
---Hee-hee. How's that for a cool line? Doyah!
