Deathsoul4(IPA: dɛθsəʊl4, Japanese: 死魂(Shikon), Korean: 사혼(Sa'hon)Storm, or more preferably, DeltaSierra4, is an editor in Touhou Wiki who is currently active in Touhou Wiki and a few Korean fanbases. He dabbles in translation, sometimes writes fan-fiction (only in real-life; he never posts them on the internet as of February 2011), and does random work on Touhou Wiki such as tidying up redirects.

About me

Name

By now this username should reflect DS4's great interest and like in Yuyuko and Youmu. Yuyuko's power of death and Youmu's power of soul, then combine the two - Deathsoul. Add Komachi's presence to this - You add a 4(死) at the end, and bingo: DS4. Coincidence or not, DS4's pseudonym in Korean websites happen to have the same initials as Deathsoul4: DS4, from Darksky. Actually its meaning is not that deep...... It's simply a literal translation of his current account group in a certain Korean Touhou fanbase, as you'll find out as you read on. Dunno why I added the number 4 there though......

DS4 resides in the mid-west of United States and was born in Seoul, RoK(Republic of Korea). Half of his childhood and adolescence was spent in English speaking countries. Though he didn't start playing Touhou until he immigrated to the States, he did enjoy some anime while he was living in RoK. He currently studies Chemistry and often writes fiction (including three poorly written Korean Touhou fan-fiction).

DS4 got a liking to vertical scrolling danmaku games since 1996, but his first favorite game was not Touhou (ironic since 1996 was when ZUN first created HRtP, right?). His earliest favorites were such shooting games like 1943: Battle of Midway and Doom series (now we know why he likes Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row so much).

Personality

Just like some of his favorite characters, namely Yukari Yakumo or Eirin Yagokoro, DS4 has a very enigmatic personality. Generally he maintains a calm mood and a pleasant personality, but has a short-fuse and can get impatient over trivial matter. He likes to go out at night often (probably for drinking) with others but prefers to stay in his room doing work (Wiki or non-Wiki work). [1]
His account name, simply a literal translation of an account group of a certain Korean fanbase, has transpired some misunderstandings about him, such as the misunderstanding that he is a hardcore fan of death metal (though he does say he likes Undead Corporation's music). By account group, he means he is a part of a circle of Korean Touhou fans that share a certain name in their accounts (members of his account group shared the words 사혼 in their account name, and DS4's account was 사혼Storm). The group is still active in the Korean Touhou fanbase, though little is known about this group among the fans.
His other favorite music genres include 90's American rap, opera, jazz&electronica, and Korean traditional music[2] (now that's 0% music compatibility with anyone else I suppose).

Involvement with Touhou

"Two good things I believe I can get out of Touhou: First, the ability to enjoy something in this world at least, and second, the ability to hone my Japanese skills. Trust me, it works." -DS4, to a close friend of his

DS4 started playing Touhou Project around January 2009. His favorite games are listed below:

Touhou Hisoutensoku
The very first fighter type of game in which DS4 took a liking in. He dislikes most of fighter type games like MUGEN, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken vs. Capcom, but, along with Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, DS4 likes Touhou-style fighter games (and that's not because it's the only game in which he can 1LC the entire game in Lunatic against CPU, as his friend likes to joke around).

Imperishable Night
DS4 took a liking to the storyline of this game. Rarely does he read the storyline when playing games, but this one got him! Especially of interest was the fact that Mystia got eaten by Yuyuko in the game storyline (but Mystia reappears in Phantasmagoria of Flower View so he wants some explanation of what happened there).

The Genius of Sappheiros
No need for words: This. Is. DS4's. Most. Favorite. Touhou-related. Game. Ever.

Devil of Decline
Produced by the same game creators of The Genius of Sappheiros. Game advisory - instantaneous addiction effect. Currently playing with Yukari (with all of my first 5 favorite characters in the party!)

Youkai Tan Q Roku and Tendou Blade
Along with The Genius of Sappheiros, games from Tokushu Soukou Tai(特殊装甲隊) are of great interest to him. Unfortunately he hasn't had a chance to play the latest game from them and bids good luck to anyone who's new to challenging games from Tokushu Soukou Tai.

More words on Touhou related games: DS4 thinks that Touhou Soccer 2 is such a cheap game for the CPU, which has infinite guts and can just shut the player out of the game unless the player is able to repeatedly pass the ball in his/her penalty zone forever until the game ends. He thinks that if the CPU were given about twice the amount of guts as given to the player, he would be able to beat the game.

Another game he has suspicion about the cheating AI would be Touhou Hanafuda, in which DS4 believes that the CPU randomly shuffles the deck of cards during gameplay so that the player cannot get the piece that he wants. Of course this is all merely his speculation and who knows?

Relationships

DS4's rank of favorite characters at the beginning of Touhou Seimoe 2011.

"Too much necrophilia?" -A friend to DS4, after looking at his Touhou image collection

So far 6 of his most favorite characters have maintained their positions in the long list of Touhou Character DS4 likes. Yukari, Yuyuko, Youmu (commonly noted as the 3Y by DS4) and Yuuka have maintained the top 4 positions, whereas Sakuya and Okuu have always alternated between 5th and 6th, though never below that. Altogether, these six characters are called "the big 6" by DS4.

Yukari Yakumo (ranked #1)
It is a long story, but Yukari has been (and hopefully always will be) very close to DS4. Her in-game quotes are of interest to him, and he sometimes speaks of her as his mentor of life. Even less known is that Yukari in person might be related in some way to DS4's real life and hometown......

Yuyuko Saigyouji (ranked #1)
Ghost-related characters have always been of interest to DS4, and Yuyuko Saigyouji is no exception! Along with Sadako from Ring, Yuyuko Saigyouji makes up one of his most favorite Japanese movie, anime & game related characters. Her figurine always stands with DS4 when he is playing Touhou and/or Xbox games (he thinks it brings good luck, just like the good-luck cat figurines!).

  • The hungry ghost thing: Yes, one thing in common between Yuyuko and DS4 is that both like to eat (I mean WHO WOULDN'T?). He wants to ask everyone in this wiki why Yuyuko never gets obese after all that eating.
  • Upon being asked "How do you think Yuyuko died as human?": His response: "I've heard enough of that. They tell me she committed seppuku, used her ability on herself, or even ate herself to death. There's one and only one answer I'll stick to, and it's that she poisoned herself with a drug...... the very drug she tries kill Eirin with in the Ghost team ending for Imperishable Night!"
  • The "from final boss to first boss" thing: DS4 is very annoyed at that one. Especially since it has to do with Yoshika Miyako.

Youmu Konpaku (ranked #3)
Arguably one of the few human characters with whom DS4 has close relationships, Youmu Konpaku, as DS4 usually describes, is the vigor of his life. Always interested in Asian weaponry, including swords from Japan, bows from Korea, and scimitars from the middle east, DS4 got attracted to Youmu because of her sword (and also her somewhat naive and often dogged personality - DS4 says he sees something about himself in Youmu). That said, the fact that Youmu appears in almost 21% of DS4's Touhou image collection (keep in mind that 21% is quite a huge proportion, given that the next common character, Yuyuko, only appears 7% of all images) does not come as a surprise.

Yuuka Kazami (ranked #4)
Often mistaken as one of the three characters representing the order of the 3Y, Yuuka is actually #4 in DS4's favorite character list. First character DS4 ever got to try out on Mystic Square... and beat the game! (Why is that game so harrrrd??) One might wonder how a slow character as Yuuka Kazami is any use in evading danmakus flying at near speed of light (well, in the game maybe) but DS4 prefers to stick to the motto "Slow and steady wins the race." Aya's abuse of Yuuka gets a lot of frowns from DS4 (discussed in Aya's section below), and he is even more annoyed at the lack of games where Yuuka appears as a main playable character. His favorite scene involving Yuuka Kazami: The moment when he defeats Shikieiki with Yuuka without dying (lol).

  • The Youkai Moe thing: lol

Sakuya Izayoi (ranked #5) and Eirin Yagokoro
Who wouldn't want Eirin to be your nurse? DS4 likes technology (but he's no scientologist!) and naturally he is attracted to lunarians. One day DS4 hopes that Eirin can make him drugs that can help him get over constant headaches and bloodshot eyes (I guess everyone else knows what's causing such symptoms?).

  • The relationship with Sakuya: DS4 is one of the staunch believers that think Sakuya is related to Eirin as a Lunarian. He even has a theory that Sakuya might be a half-sister (not a sister) of Eirin. So far his theory has developed to the point where he believes that Sakuya was exiled from the moon after a bloody power-fight with Eirin, with Sakuya's memories erased (explaining why Sakuya doesn't comment much about Eirin in Imperishable Night).

Okuu (ranked #6) and Orin
Apparently Tokushu Soukou Tai(特殊装甲隊) did their job when Deathsoul played Tendou Blade. Up to nowadays, DS4 compliments on how amazing a job they did when they created the Palace of Earth Spirit stages of Tendou Blade, in which DS4's favorite map is the Nuclear Fusion Reactor Core's final map, where Okuu stays waiting for you. Also he likes Okuu and Orin's art in the games Tendou Blade and Youkai Tan Q Roku. Also, caring for the environment and the Earth, DS4 pities on the fact that there isn't any energy source on Earth like Okuu (although should there be one, he doubts that Earth would be a safe place to live).

Works

"What else can I do? I suck at danmaku games, I can't sing or produce music well, and I don't have that much of a Touhou music collection. I'm never up to date on stuff so don't rely on me about Touhou gamer information. All I could do is perhaps translate some of the Japanese text so that more people can enjoy the things that I never got to enjoy on the other side of the globe." -DS4 to a fellow Touhou player, while introducing Touhou wiki to him.

Feel free to make requests if you have one (as long as it is Touhou related I'll accept most of them). It's my pleasure to help out with translation if someone is having a struggle or if there is an article that needs to be translated, though I might not be completely useful in all situations, since I am not able to translate all Japanese into English. Sometimes I'm not even able to register a certain single Kanji (Chinese character) used in the text and will not be able to translate the whole sentence! Hopefully that's where other more experienced translators or Japanese typers can help me out and work through the article of interest.

Tasks working on

My mission statement in this Wiki can be described as "clearing the untranslated category as much as I can". Ofc, I'm not as good in Japanese as the more experienced translators here (NForza or KyoriAsh, to name a few), so I can only do up to what I can do (If I cannot find any way to translate some text, I'll have to leave it at the hands of some others), and still try my best while I'm at the task.

Other tasks I deal with here is uploading articles about doujin arrange albums. I found out some of my favorite albums weren't uploaded here and embarked on my journey.

Feel like joining in some tasks? Go to the community portal for a list of tasks or the Itinerary Database for more options!

Translation tasks
  • Any untranslated dialogues: Started working on these since all other official texts need to be retranscribed before being translated.
  • Lyrics translation: Randomly translating some of my favorite doujin albums.
Touhou Daikaitei

Please join us if you have any Touhou materials in original Japanese text and/or have Japanese translation skills!
Currently working on:

Miscellaneous
  • Devil of Decline walkthrough: Nope, not going to translate the dialogues anymore. Instead, will work with walkthroughs on where to get chests, how to recruit characters, and defeating bosses, etc.
  • Adding Doujin Arrange Albums: Will randomly add and work on some Doujin albums. Please help me out with finding lyrics!
  • Interwiki links: Order of carrying out my mass-interwiki project: Ukranian -> Italian -> Polish -> Spanish -> Russian -> French -> Chinese.
  • Other very minor stuff regarding organization (e.g. categories, tidying up album images, etc.)
Future possibilities

The following are only stuff that I might get to start (or might not if I don't have time and/or something distracts me again). Might happen or might not happen.

As I do not have much time due to tons of work in real life, it would be a great pleasure if some of you who have lots of free time at hand can help me with the articles.

Additional Information

Trivia

  • Big 6 FTW
  • Although DS4 likes Marisa over Reimu, DS4 sucks at controlling Marisa.
  • DS4 also loves Minecraft (and guess what skin I'm using?) but doesn't play on multiplayers, further making him inaccessible at times online.
  • DS4 believes that listening to Touhou music while driving creates a border surrounding the car--very much like that made by Yukari--which will keep you from getting caught by cops when you're speeding.
  • DS4 is never up to date on anything. He mostly relies on third-hand information for any news!
  • The order of 3Y, in which DS4 is involved, is a group of people who like Yuyuko, Youmu, or Yukari.
  • Contrary to popular belief, DS4 is currently inactive on most Korean-based Touhou fan bases. One of the only few he is currently active in is Tongbangnet (listed above).
    • That said, he has few connections with any Touhou translators from Korea.
  • The only reason DS4 came back to playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was to test out the Touhou mods that have been released.
  • DS4 is afflicted with a curse which prevents him from ever going to Comiket--well, not really a curse but for some reason he is continuously warded off from going to Comiket for various reasons:
    • Comiket 78: Was planning to attend it with some friends, whom all backed out one after another for various reasons (money, time, parents, household duty, etc.)
    • Comiket 79: Was planning to attend it but was out of money and got sick during Winter.
    • Comiket 80: Was planning to attend it but my summer job overlapped with the period. Yay.
    • Comiket 81: Was not planning to attend it until November. By then nobody wanted to go. Yay again.
    • Comiket 82: No, not going. Yay for the third time.
    • Comiket 83: Highly likely not to attend AGAIN. Yay, once and for all.

Wishlists

Just some stuff that DS4 (or his buddies) wishes about Touhou, from the official games to Doujin products, but pretty much pointless and meaningless, as ZUN would say in his Omake texts lol.

  • For TH14 and subsequent series:
    • Make Yuuka become a playable character along with Reimu, Marisa, Sanae, Sakuya, Youmu, and Alice.
    • Bring Mima or Shinki back. Seriously, I'd like to see more PC-98 characters in the latest games.
    • Make Reimu and Marisa become choosable final bosses (like in IN).
    • Renko and Maribel should show up in one of the series.
    • A horizontal shooting game for a spin (Probably I'm asking for too much here?)
    • An official game (not the spinoffs like IaMP, SWR, TH, or GFW) in which Marisa is not the game icon (that's sacrilege!).
    • A game where the fourth stage bosses are all different for different protagonists (e.g. Sanae if Reimu is chosen, Alice if Marisa is chosen, Meiling if Sakuya is chosen, Yuyuko if Youmu is chosen, etc.)
    • A game where all the bosses are Yukkuris.
    • A game where your objective is not to dodge bullets but to gather them as much as you can. Missing too many bullets will end in losing one life, and grazing will decrease your score! (evil laughter)
  • A Korean Touhou Wiki: No, not like the one they already have over in Korea - a LEGIT Korean Wiki. Might get to host one myself in the future, though it is very very uncertain.
  • A doujin game involving Yukkuri wars. Would love to play something that's a MOD of Starcraft haha
  • An Xbox version of Touhou games.
  • Speaking of Xbox, how about a Touhou mix with Ikaruga? Reimu fires white bullets and Marisa fires black bullets, just press x to flip lol.
  • A game that runs backwards? Think about the movie Memento lol.
  • Life-size replica of Youmu's Roukanken, and I mean a LEGIT one that can really cut down things (might be too dangerous?)
  • A game that involves the death of a Touhou character: Concealed the Conclusion was somewhat dissatisfying... Wanted something like that described by "Touhou Metsubougeki(東方滅亡劇)", translated "The End of Gensokyo", a Korean fan-fiction of Touhou, featuring Marisa. Doesn't have to be an official game (that would be actually tragic), and doesn't have to be a danmaku shooting game.

Notes

1. ^ He also claims that this user page of his is a good test of one's ability to sift through facts and half-truths.
2. ^ Interestingly, DS4 intensely dislikes modern K-pop, though he likes most of the K-pop from the mid 2000's (SG wanna be, Fly to the Sky, Epikhigh, YB... now choose your favorite).
