Epic Translations

Haven't seen you around the /touhou/ board at wakachan for a while, so I was touching base. Has Souha-san not released any updates requiring additional dialogue translation? Is that portion of the project essentially complete, then?--Apcog 02:53, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, my fault for taking a break. I'll quote myself from a reply I posted.
>Last thread fell off the board. v1.13 is still in progress.
>I really should resume finishing the diplo text checks, huh? 50% done so far.
There are no new updates by Souha-san. The last post was some sort of 3D model Murasa. There are no other outstanding translations apart from the diplo text, except for maybe revising existing translations, such as city names. I just need to finish checking over the diplo text. I'll make the checks a priority and I promise to have it done by the end of the weekend. - Kiefmaster99 21:30, June 25, 2010 (UTC)
Hey, no rush. I just wanted to be sure I hadn't missed anything by not being on the message board before an update thread got pushed out of sight. So long as I know you haven't been calling for me while I've been out of touch, I'm fine. Just drop a line here and/or on /touhou/ as need be.--Apcog 05:59, June 26, 2010 (UTC)
In all honesty, the txt checks should've been done, like, a month ago, but then I got distracted by OpenTTD and other stuff. Also, I just remembered that there is a missing line that I've encountered while checking that needs to be translated. By the time I found this mistake, the old thread fell off, so I was originally planning to hold this off until after I release ENG 1.00.

No interface in Touhou epic

When I start the game, there is no interface, and Alt+I doesn't seem to help. I'm guessing this isn't normal, but do you know of any way to fix this problem? The preceding comment was written by 86.136.162.235 11:16, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

This is a frequently-encountered problem. The most common reasons are either you didn't run as Admin on Vista, or your language isn't installed in English. Failing those, try reinstalling. - Kiefmaster99 17:19, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

About your suggestion

In rumbling orchestra, could you please provide a sample, because I don't have any fancy tricks besides the fundamentals...

And thanks for the notepad trick, It'll save me a lot of time!

If you can tell, it's a hassle to align the text with the pics the way I' doing it.

Plus, by hand it takes a bit so can you show me the ropes?

(I'll also put it smaller!)

Since this is applicable to all of those articles, I'm going to suggest starting a topic on the RSO main page. Edit: And get them subpaged too. Kiefmaster99 04:02, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

And I guess I'm back here again. You can see progress over at User:Kiefmaster99/RSO_Sandbox. Feel free to leave comments here on what you want to see. Kiefmaster99 06:02, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Looks good to me, but it'll be the community to say whats wrong with it (lol) not me... Umm, just a question; do you want me to do it in bits, or just one gigantic update that I'll save on the notepad?

Or Should I do sections (One for reimu, marisa etc.) or...what?

♥★♦ 23:03, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I would do it in sections (i.e. Do up to all of Marisa or whoever). It is a huge job, but it'll still look somewhat neat in between. Kiefmaster99 23:44, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

"generally omitted"

When you say that, do you mean that random people do this, that Japanese do this, that even ZUN does this, or that this wiki does this, etc? Despatche

There are three games that use 'the' in its title. the Highly Responsive to Prayers, the Story of Eastern Wonderland, and the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. All three have the 't' in their abbreviation omitted (HRtP, SoEW, and EoSD). The article titles also omit 'the'. You can check the glossary page as well, as I left a comment regarding 'the'.
Abbreviations are used by the English-speaking fanbase (EoSD, IaMP, DS, FW) and rarely also by the Japanese (紅, 萃, DS, FW) to reference games, so we use fan common usage. The general rule seems to be to take the English part of the subtitle and abbreviate it, while omitting 'the'. I've seen "EoSD" usage far outnumber "tEoSD". Unusual cases include the 12.x series. It's worth mentioning that abbreviations are in part influenced by this wiki. - Kiefmaster99 15:54, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
For the record, HRtP no longer uses "the"; the others still do. Despatche 17:23, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
It's bizarre since the HRtP title screen for the game clearly shows 'the'. - Kiefmaster99 18:11, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Proof that "The" really appears - KyoriAsh 18:18, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Heh, may as well point this out then.
>no longer uses
ZUN gave up "the" at some point. See Akyu 5, among other things; doesn't help that the song never had a "the", either. Even the jp.wikipedia notes this change, for some bizarre reason. Despatche 01:09, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
You are going to need to point out these other things. The only thing I see documented in Akyu 5 is that the song title has not changed, which only relates back to the song. Are there any other instances other than the song title where 'the' is abandoned? A recent or current official use of "Highly Responsive to Prayers" to refer to the game would be decisive. Related, does this also apply to SoEW?
Album covers say so. You are right; I would consider this as decisive. - Kiefmaster99 01:59, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

XML Editor

Do you know any XML Editors that can automatically empty certain tags? My civilization copy seem to have problems reading XML files unless I remove every text in any tag that isn't labelled English, and it seemed to apply to Touhou Epic too, but some of those files (mainly the diplomacy text) are freaking huge and would take way too long to do manually... (Actually, something that allows me to see the line numbers is good enough, too, since the game does tell me on which lines does it have a problem with the XML files) RegalStar 23:18, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I use both Notepad++ and Notepad to edit files - Notepad++ to read line numbers, and Notepad for the bulk of the work because it's faster.
As for tag emptying, I'm unaware of any tools. I would test-run without the diplomacy file just to make sure the mod works if you haven't done so already.
In case you're curious, I'm still revising the diplomacy text itself. What's left is to insert Komachi's text and deal with the note/~ issue. - Kiefmaster99 01:36, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Overall the game works regardless, but there are a lot of TXT_KEY things that are an eyesore, and more importantly all diplomatic texts are in TXT_KEY, which actually affects gameplay because when the AI mentions another civilization, that civilization won't show up (for example, all I can tell is that Kaguya wants me to stop trading with someone, but I have no idea who that someone is). I'll try using notepad++ to take out lines that the game specifically complains about. RegalStar 03:11, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
So wait. Is the problem with the tag itself (it shows as AI_DIPLO_STOP_TRADING_LEADER_KAGUYA_1), or what's in the tag (I will have you cease trade with the %s1 immediately.)? Is there something in common with the troubled lines? - Kiefmaster99 03:54, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
The problem is that 1) When the game starts up, it spews a bunch of errors about the XML files (something about </Japanese> not matching with <Text>), then during the game, relevant items in those XML files appear as something like "TXT_KEY_<blah blah blah>". This error occured when I was playing vanilla as well, so I assumed that it was something wrong with my copy of the game, fixed it by deleting relevant entries in the XML files (which worked for this too), and moved on.
In any case, it seems that some new problems have popped up that I'm not sure if it pertains only to me - it seems that as soon as I researched Patternizing, all my Touhou units can automatically cast their Extra Spell right away, because for some reason they just received the promotion for free (especially jarring with my first unit since I was trying out the shooting route, and didn't spend a single promotion on anything SC related). Also, I don't know why but while the UFOs Nue summoned could enter someone's land even without an open border, they can't seem to attack or pillage anything (I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a feature since I never used Privateers all that much). RegalStar 05:49, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
For 1), it sounds like there may have been an error with the Japanese tags. Though if it also occurred with your vanilla version, then there's not much I can do. A copy-paste of the error message might help me.
For 2), those aren't errors. You were likely using a leader with the Sorcerous trait, which grants the Extra promotion by default (though you still can't use it until you research Patternizing). Also, for the time being, Red UFOs are units that are able to attack but not pillage (for sake of balance). The whole UFO thing underwent multiple changes during the past updates, so I wouldn't be surprised if more tweaks were made. - Kiefmaster99 06:06, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah, so Sorcerous it is. As for the UFOs, they just can't plain do anything - the red ones can't attack, and the blue ones can't pillage either. RegalStar 06:12, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Well, they can. Red UFOs are like Privateers - they Can Attack without Declaring War. The not-so-obvious part is that the units have to be outside of cities. Blue UFOs on the other hand have no such ability; you must declare war to reap their benefits. Check the Civilopedia. - Kiefmaster99 06:26, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Fairies redirect.

Should Luna, Sunny, and Star really redirect to the Three Fairies of Light article rather than their own respective article? --Sefam 22:39, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Oops. - Kiefmaster99 22:40, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

And could you help me with the navboxes? They don't black out the characters in the navbox. (Example, on Sunny's page, Sunny's page shouldn't be clickable in the navbox). --Sefam 22:41, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Done. - Kiefmaster99 22:57, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Fairy Wars Spell Cards revamp

OK, I think it's time to revamp this stupid thing. The screenshot's condition same as other, with an addition to note: NO ICE, which quite frustrated me to capture such screenshot. Medals not necessary, well. And oh yeah, follow the new file naming scheme - KyoriAsh 04:18, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

I am going to dread doing this. Mostly because there are way too many spell cards in this game, plus I suck at it (seriously, clearing TD Normal with all characters, and with trying to get the alternate endings, is easier than clearing FW Normal on all routes). - Kiefmaster99 05:30, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Also, I'll be busy over the next few days with IRL stuff. - Kiefmaster99 03:16, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

FR translation help

Original text: Thxx <char> <difficulty>'s record has been updated

What is the fr translation for this part? thanks in advance - KyoriAsh 20:52, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Le récord de Thxx <char> <difficulty> a été mis à jour.
I should note that I'm not 100% sure on this though, as update is a weird verb to attempt to translate into French.
I'm also going to preserve the Thxx <char> <difficulty> format. - Kiefmaster99 22:14, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Request for clarification about 旧作‎

Tony64, on the page Talk:PC-98‎, recently asked for some clarification about the meaning of 旧作‎ with relation to Touhou. Generally, of course, it means "old works" although within Touhou, it has a specific meaning. In any case, could you state what you know about this in that talk page?--Tosiaki 05:12, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

I could state what I know about it, but it'd be a sad one-liner: "Nothing". I am not well-versed in the PC-98 subject area. That being said, the first thing I'd do is look 旧作 up in the Toho Motoneta. Try asking masuo64; he's helped me before. - Kiefmaster99 05:19, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

My take on "Strength" from Marisa's article

To be edited later: <toggledisplay showtext="Show section" hidetext="Hide section">

Strength

Marisa's true strength is such that she is able to use the highest class of magic power and so on. However, Marisa herself has been compared compared to humans of a level close to us (citation from ZUN needed), her existence is closest to that of an ordinary human, and she was born as the daughter of an owner of a second-hand store in the village, as an ordinary girl.

As a main character of Touhou Project, she was able to face youkai possessing great power and super-people with transgression-like abilities, and was able to solve a number of incidents in many scenarios. The difference in Marisa's power from ordinary to super has lead to wide variations of interpretations about her power.

[Since the player characters are of the Last Boss class (But Reimu and the gang are stronger than that last boss class) the enemies' abilities are quite strong from the start. I think." (Need to paraphrase); has been suggested that this may include Marisa.] (cite Imperishable Night .txt. file) It is unclear whether this reflect true combat abilities, or if this is limited to danmaku fights.

In her previous fights, although there were scenarios when she was able to defeat last bosses such as Remilia Scarlet and Yuyuko Saigyouji, there were also scenarios in Phantasmagoria of Flower View where she was defeated by Cirno and Mystia Lorelei. In Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, she defeated many youkai and human opponents, but also within the image of being a "main character" she and Reimu did not overwhelmingly defeat them. Also, the story of that game ends with her being defeated along with Reimu by Tenshi Hinanawi giving forth her true effort.

Incidentally, in her fights with Reimu, she wins about four-tenths of the time.[1]

Concerning her resolution of incidents, ZUN has said that

Even when Reimu and the gang are defeated they challenge again however many times they want, but on the youkai side they do not challenge again after being defeated, and are not attached to the results of winning or losing..., to say it clearly it is assuredly an inconsequential thing^^;"

So whether they win or lose is not important, and it is unclear how many tries she needed to take in order to defeat the last bosses. [2]

As a warning since it is easy to misunderstand this, but for the danmaku fights in Touhou, within the print works, these fights are not for the sake of taking enjoyment in killing each other - rather, it is to the very end, the girls' play-fight. The beautiful danmaku with plenty of useless bullets is verification of the fact that the last bosses do not really want to kill the main characters, and in the archives ZUN has said that if they truly wanted to kill, 10:1 bullets would not be necessary. For this reason, the strength covered here is a different story from talking about who shall live if she went against whoever in a brutal fight to the death.

Modèle pour Symposium of Post-mysticism (Wiki français)

Hello Kief ! I post a quickly message on your user page to see if it possible that you tell us about your knowledges for install a model for Symposium of Post-mysticism. We would like something similar as that used on this Wiki.
In fact, I'm not gifted enough to do it, and my friends also lack time, so if you have time to give us two-three advices or put something in place, you're welcome.

Come when you have time, ok ? It does not urgent especially with the Japan Expo, which begins in two months, so we will not be highly active on the wiki fr ^^'.

Good day, see you later!

P.S : Don't laugh with my english, please XD !
--Fouri 15:26, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Bonjour! Mon français n'est pas parfait non plus.
Anyways, I will look into it and see what I can do. - Kiefmaster99 17:52, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Also, I'd like to ask a question. Which would you prefer in templates - Understandability in your own language, or ease of transfer of information? The former will force you to learn some English terms, while the latter will make transferring info from this wiki faster and easier. - Kiefmaster99 18:19, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
One more thing. Please urge whoever is in charge to implement subpages. The lack of proper subpaging has been a stumbling block for me from continuing with spell card pages. - Kiefmaster99 18:38, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Hello ! I think my friends would prefer a model in our language, but for now, I will make my bad girl and say it's me who decide, because I'll be the one who will translate the longest articles XD !

The best thing for us would be a maximum of copy/paste at least for the model because we are not many, and if we must type everything with the PmiSS model, we will never finish --' ...
So I prefer the English option, easier for transfer everything. It will encourage our comrades to come and post a bit during the summer...

For spellcard pages, I'll talk to kaish again, but apparently he is not very sure either of how to proceed. Hakkai, our admin, has just returned from Japan, I bring it up again very soon...

Thank you very much ^ ^!
--Fouri 16:48, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Hello! Thank you for the model ! Can you also add the one of the five major parts if possible ^^' ? That save us a lot x')!

I asked for the navigation model, and I'm waiting for answer now...

Thank you again !
--Fouri 17:15, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I have copied the code for SoPm for Part 1 onto my talk page. You can copy the code from there (I won't touch it because a TL version in a different format already exists).
The subpage navigation template won't work without, as the name implies, subpages.
It is impossible for me to import the Navbox template due to the following anti-spam message.
"La page que vous avez voulu sauvegarder a été bloquée par le filtre anti-pollution. Ceci est probablement dû à l’introduction d’un lien vers un site externe apparaissant sur la liste noire. Cette dernière utilise les expressions rationnelles suivantes :
La chaîne de caractères « height: 2px » a déclenché le détecteur de pourriel."
This measure needs to be waived for me to continue. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 16:19, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I love you Kief x) ! Thank for the model ^^ !

Our administrators have set up the navi box... can you see if it works as you want ;) ?
See you later ! --Fouri (talk) 20:50, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Subpages are working now, so thank you very much for that.
By Navbox, I am referring to the example listed below:

<toggledisplay showtext="Show navbox" hidetext="Hide section">

</toggledisplay>

This requires Template:Navbox, which I am unable to import. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 00:08, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Hello Kief ! Hakkai said me he had solved the problem about the filter, could you see if you can install the Nav Box now ? Thank you!

--Fouri (talk) 16:31, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

The Navbox has been imported, but since there were no default colours in the common.css (only admin can edit), I chose an ugly combination of colours. I suggest the common.css be updated to accommodate navbox colours and styles. Or, you can suggest to me which colours to use (#AAAAAA format). Thanks. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 04:47, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Touhou? Eastern?

The javascript version haven't update yet? - KyoriAsh (talk) 14:22, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Nope. The capitalization for some isn't correct either, some songs are missing, and I don't have the permissions to change it. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 14:24, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

May you help to translate the Warning sentence from en to fr? As this is a serious problem, thanks in advance - KyoriAsh (talk) 18:21, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Touhou MTG Set

So I was digging through my old files, and found the Touhou magic set you posted on Pooshlmer a few years ago (Version 0.9.1, dated April 25, 2009). Is this still being worked on? And could you post the most recent files for it? I might talk my friends into playing it. Thanks. - Fischkuchen (talk) 01:12, 6 November 2012 (EST)

Well, I'm not actively working on it at the moment, maybe only here or there. The current version underwent many revisions and it's completely different in several regards (for example, I cut out colorcast). Also, the past version uploaded to Mediafire is the only one that's usable with Magic Workstation.
I'll take a look at the set later today, try to make some final changes, and post an mse file later tonight. I might experiment with other programs too. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 11:55, 7 November 2012 (EST)
Here's the current iteration, along with incomplete sets. Only the first can be considered 'complete' in any sense. I am lacking ideas for Byakuren's crew. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 13:27, 8 November 2012 (EST)

The vote

Just be sure to double check the history of the vote you put up before finalizing the votes. Just incase anyone would go and edit someone else's votes without anyone noticing...sorry I'm paranoid about these things, especially since it is on a wiki...MaronaPossessed (talk) 22:01, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

True. Well, the whole yuurei/phantom issue, plus the support/oppose stuff on Wikipedia is done in public after all, so there shouldn't really be any issues. Although rare, we can also count on the collective editorship to spot and flag any suspicious activity. Of course, any such deliberate rigging by any user constitutes as a serious bannable offense. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 03:33, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

XML Error

So I get alot of incorrect tag errors if i try to start the game with the mod(with and without translation). The very first error would be this one:

Tag: FEATURE_SUNFLOWER in Info class was incorrect. Current XML file is: xml\Units/CIV4PromotionInfos.xml

Every other mod works fine but Touhou Epic just doesn't want to cooperate with me. - Dregonaus (talk) 22:19, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Mass missing or corrupt XML tags tend to suggest one of a few things. Either a) didn't overwrite properly, b) missing, or c) didn't run as administrator. Try again, and if error persists, send me a copy of the affected XML files and I'll take a look at it. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 20:45, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
Here are the 4 files, which are mentioned in the error-messages https://www.mediafire.com/folder/sc8g0kdc9lw2r/Documents. I don't think anything is missing in my modfolder and of course i'm running the game as administrator. But i believe it may have something to do with me setting my system locale to japanese at one point. I even tried to use Applocale with english and japanese settings. - Dregonaus (talk) 22:19, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Well, they're the same as the files I have. It might have something to do with the locale, but I don't know, since I tried running the game under natural Japanese locale and it worked fine (didn't use applocale). It might be due to the language settings on your machine. I can't really suggest any other solution at this point. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 22:59, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Talk:Urban Legend in Limbo/Characters

You've created the talk page for people to discuss, right? I chose to stop the edit war and start discussing on the talk page, but people don't want me to discuss and I'm already feeling like I'm a total jerk for all eternity. I'm starting to act nice and not throwing a tantrum on people, but they kept talking about the past. Nintenchris5963 (talk)

You should probably take that up with Mamizou, the admin. I haven't really paid much attention to the talk page since my last post. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 20:41, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
I talked to Mamizou about what happened, but she won't help me resolving my problem, and people started picking on me. Nintenchris5963 (talk)

Question from French Wiki - Junko's theme

Hello Kiefmaster ! Do you remember ? I come from the French Touhou Wiki. My comrades and me have a simple question about Junko's theme title. ピュアヒューリーズ ~ 心の在処 (Pure Furies ~ Whereabouts of the Heart), we wonder about the plural form of "furies" here. Do you think we must translated that by : "Des furies/fureurs pures" in French ? For me, singular (Une furie/fureur pure) is ok too but I'm not sure... We don't know about plural here. While this part is in English, I looking for some people who can help me to decide this. Sorry to bother you, and thank you in advance for your help ^^.
--Fouri (talk) 11:13, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Furies is plural. Fury is singular in English. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 23:42, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, I think it would be OK now ^^b !

Meaning of Memento in "Perfect memento in strict sense"?

Hello, I have a silly question about memento meaning. In english, is that mean "souvenir", or it's refer to a "book" memento in this case?
It would be : "Le Parfait Mémento" ; "Le Souvenir parfait" in french? This question show up suddently and cause confusion between members.
Sorry, sorry to bother you... Look pretty difficult for new membres to send à private message on MotK...Thank you in advance! --Fouri (talk) 09:30, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

It's a weird case of where the English definition is different from French. Memento in English is closer to souvenir. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 20:32, 25 May 2017 (UTC)
