Can you help me understand the two wikis?
I'm trying to get into contact with Momiji to talk about the state of the touhou wiki and the other touhou wiki. Nothing urgent, but I'm in conversation with the admin of the other wiki and I need both sides of the story.
(Or if there's another person I should speak to instead, could you point me to them?) I'd be happy to talk either here or by email: you can reach me at (-zapped-). Hatless 07:44, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

::::I'm curious about your questions.  Is this something about Wikia?  Momiji 19:04, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
:::::Heh... it's 'about wikia' in the sense that I discovered the whole two wikis clusterfuck a couple days ago, and immediately thought: 'This is a terrible situation! I need to find out more of how it happened, and help fix it if I can! ...if only so I can sleep at night.' (No lie: wiki-drama induced insomnia. I am a hopeless case.)
:::::I don't have any ties to either wiki, which is why I think (hope) I can do this.
:::::For what it's worth, the admin at wikia seems open to change: he's suggested turning his side into a 'fanon wiki', and leaving the encyclopedic part to you guys... though on the other hand he's also convinced that you guys are, universally and without exception, spammers, vandals and barbarians.
:::::I've got absolutely no right to ask you to do anything, but if there was any good word you wanted to drop in over there, now would be an excellent time. Hatless 01:38, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
::::::In all honesty, we had absolutely nothing to do with the spamming.  While I think they were foolish in try to take over something that shouldn't have existed in the first place, I made it very clear we didn't support what was happening to them.  I'm pretty sure it was only two specific people who were involved with the actual Wikia wiki spamming, but I'm not really sure who they were exactly.
::::::If they want to turn the focus of their wiki elsewhere, they're free to do so however they please.  But remember that their very existence is foreign to us and we can't support them, and I don't think they really understand that yet.  Wikia is definitely not being altruistic with the wiki and it's two new admins, they're letting themselves get pawned into feeding their scheme.  So that's why I think they feel like we're showing them disgust at their actions with the wiki.  My thread at Shrinemaiden should've explained the whole thing, but this exchange in particular, with who I believe was Imanie on Wikia but I'm not sure, should detail exactly our problem with Wikia and the intentional confusing they're causing with people.  Momiji 02:24, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
:::::::After crawling through threads and talk pages for the past few days, I think I'm pretty familiar with what went down. And I mean, I do agree with you so far as it goes: the other wiki only still exists because of Wikia's astonishingly venal corporate policy. In any sane world we would never have this situation.
:::::::But this is the situation we're in. My concern is how to make lemonade from these lemons, or at least a silk purse from this sow's ear. Hatless 04:54, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
::::::::I'd be more than thrilled if they brought their work over here.  Really that's the only thing that kinda bugs me, the duplication of effort.  It's pretty senseless.  I'm not sure either one of them would consider registering here and continuing whatever they were working on here.  Especially Imanie, who seemed to be looking for a reason to stay on Wikia in spite of us.  Momiji 04:57, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
New User Policy/Restrictions
Hi, I have a question. What are the policies surrounding newly-registered accounts (e.g. no page creating/moving until X days)? == Touhou Wiki as a NIWA affilate? ==
I was browsing NIWA today and noticed that they have some Non-Nintendo affilates.
Maybe this wiki could be one of them? I think it qualifies.(P.S. This is off topic, but I know that there are some more articles that the wiki still needs to move. I used to be on the Wikia wiki, and I added my fanmade there).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOLFSHIT

Sorry I was looking on the Soku page (the one initially missing the images), another person already referred me to the page. I don't know how to remove them though. >.<

Deleting a file history entry

Hello, could you delete the 4th file in this list ?(The 41KB file with "(148,208,950 — MATSU (2009/10/20))" in the comment field) I pasted the wrong comment while uploading (^^; -Master Bigode 16:21, 6 December 2010 (PST)

As well as both uploads by baity here. Master Bigode 17:26, 6 December 2010 (PST)
Done! Momiji 18:21, 6 December 2010 (PST)

We seem to have a little problem here

Apparently this guy is about to start an edit war against everybody in touhou wiki over Megamari. Is there a way to silence this guy? Deathsoul4 18:40, 1 January 2011 (PST)

Dealt with him, thanks for letting me know. Momiji 21:30, 1 January 2011 (PST)
did anyone ask him why he felt that megamari was a sonic-based game? lol --Tsukihime 23:27, 1 January 2011 (PST)
Probably just the same troll who did it on the other wiki. Pufferfish101 21:37, 2 January 2011 (PST)

Deleting a duplicate file

Hey Momiji, could you delete this Touhoumon Black Alice image that was uploaded under an outdated name? I would just use the old file, but one set of templates we're using requires the image and character page to have the same name to display properly. Thanks. <3 LoliSauce 11:38, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Ugh, and right after I post asking this, I make the same mistake uploading new files. My apologies, but could you remove these four - Sunny Milk image, Luna Star image, Aki Sisters image, and Lily Black image - as well? <3<3 LoliSauce 12:24, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Done. =] Momiji 22:13, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Momi. I just came across another uploaded previously under a misspelled name. Could you remove these two Yuyuko image 1 and Yuyuko image 2 as well? => LoliSauce 05:52, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
One more uploaded previously under an incorrect name, this Luna Child image needs deletion. Thanks~ LoliSauce 05:19, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, I'm near completion and I think these are the last five incorrect uploads: Chibi Elis, Elis, Chibi Konngara, another Chibi Konngara, and Konngara. Please delete these as well, and hopefully this will be the last time I need to ask for file deletions. => LoliSauce 10:08, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Done! Momiji 03:24, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Re: Fanfiction on the wiki

Thanks for the heads up, I've been thinking more than twice about it. Yeah, they are now linked off-site and renamed as suggested. --ZEROGRAVITY-A01 21:53, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Links

Could you update the lazy external links to wikia.com in the archive here to internal links on this site? Thanks. Pufferfish101 04:15, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

I can, but I was hoping not to since that page is the archive of the original talk page on Wikia, I wanted to keep it as untouched as possible. We should get some more opinions on it, but I don't really want to touch it. Momiji 14:01, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Alright, it's fine then. I thought they were a little iffy at first, but keeping archives untouched is fine with me. Pufferfish101 16:12, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about the late reply, I totally forgot the whole thing. Anyway, the problem with SVG format is that Adobe Photoshop doesn't support it. Adobe Illustrator is the only program that supports SVG and I don't have it. PSD or high quality raster image is all I can do.

You can get the PSD + PNG files here: http://www.mediafire.com/?lfhb494n329po

No worries, thanks a bunch. I think these'll work fine. Momiji 18:02, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Sandbox

I got a question. Is it possible to disable reporting changes (on Recent changes page) for some page? I want to disable reports for sandbox. Pvc 10:59, 12 March 2011 (PST)

I perused Wikipedia a little, looks like there's no way of hiding Sandbox edits since MW considers them all "edits," nothing special about them unless they're tagged a certain way. But that's usually for potential vandalism (page blanking, repeating characters, etc. ). I'll keep looking into it. Momiji 08:20, 13 March 2011 (PDT)
Ok. Since this is not a big problem, I will leave it as it is. Thanks. Pvc 14:30, 13 March 2011 (PDT)

Adding Kanji

I'm interested in adding kanji and romaji for a few songs, as well as translations that are already available, but it seems I do not have the permissions necessary to create new pages. Do I need to request the creation of these pages? Vecktor 01:32, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Page creation is limited to Autoconfirmed users, you'll reach this when your account is at least 4 days old and you have at least 10 edits. Momiji 12:22, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Touhou Epic

Hi. This is regarding Touhou Epic. Recently, I have run into an unusual amount of difficulty in attempting to control information of that mod on the old site, which has me worrying. I want your assurance that you will not shaft me similarly should I decide to move the bulk of information offsite for whatever reason in the future. Meaning, if I decide to move info off, that you'll allow me to do so with no hassle. Otherwise, I may have to begin the process now. Thank you. - Kiefmaster99 08:58, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand what the problem is. =< Momiji 15:14, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Basically I've been shafted by Wikia in the past. I don't want a similar outcome to occur here. Not that I don't trust you guys or anything, but I'm positing a hypothetical situation to be safe (e.g. you catch rabies, I dunno). - Kiefmaster99 16:06, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Er, I'm still not really sure what the problem is with Touhou Epic, but I personally don't have any plans on deleting anything at least in the near future. What exactly happened on Wikia? Momiji 17:12, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Don't worry, I have nothing against you, and you didn't do anything on your part.
I wanted to remove information from the Wikia site. Reasons are: old site, outdated information, redirect failure, and thus harmful to readers. The text was directly translated from 東方叙事詩@wiki, and is thus a technical copyright violation (i.e. I violated my boss's copyright). They gave me a hard time instead.
I'm just being extremely cautious in order to safeguard the interests of this mod. I just want to make sure that if I decide to take down info, no one will try to restore it. - Kiefmaster99 17:48, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Well I'd rather keep stuff like that up anyway, and get permission for it if it's a problem. But if you do need to take it down for copyright reasons feel free. Personally I try to follow Wikipedia:Copyrights but being a low-population wiki about a doujin game series and ZUN's various levels of freedom-of-use makes the strictness of copyright a bit murky. And anyway, I think any reversions Wikia does to your removals don't really have anything to do with removal of copyright-infringing material, but their obsession with keeping themselves alive and relevant as a Wikia wiki. So you won't see anything like that here at all. Momiji 18:34, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
In any case, I just want to be sure that the wiki remains friendly to authors. Removing outdated content mostly because I would be updating one site only and it's more burdensome to deal with two. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
(It may seem like I'm trying to antagonize this site, but I have to put the interests of this mod first, at the same time trying to balance against a possible CoI.)
Anyways, thanks for your understanding and assurance. - Kiefmaster99 19:23, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

TouhouMUCK Wiki

Hey there. You probably remember me from MotK. I'm currently managing a wiki for a Touhou roleplaying server. We get about forty players connecting daily, but we're always looking for some more publicity. We tried linking to this wiki on our front page, but as our wiki is run by Wikia, and due to the issues that arose from the move, we had to remove the link. We do, however, have a link to this wiki on our server for the players to access.

What I wanted to ask is if you could link to our wiki on the roleplaying section of this site. It would help a great deal with publicity for us, and we're doing what we can to support this Touhou Wiki. Here is the link if you'd like to take a look, though I have to apologize for using Wikia. We don't have many options.

Thanks in advance. Squidtentacle 01:24, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

I hate to say it, but I'd rather not have any links to anything on Wikia altogether. If you can host your wiki elsewhere I'd be more than happy to interlink with you.
Momiji 04:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Momiji, Links should fine - KyoriAsh 06:31, 5 April 2011 (UTC) (and also bites your ears)
Just to clarify, I really have no problems at all linking to your wiki, I'm pretty supportive of other wikis like yours. My sole problem is with Wikia, that whole situation is still pretty sore right now. If you were to self-host your wiki I'd be more than happy to link to you, I'd probably even set up interlinking so we could point to each other's articles with wikilinks. And even then, setting up Mediawiki is surprisingly trivial to do, if you ever did decide to self-host I'd even help set it up for you. But anyway, just keep in mind that the whole Wikia thing is still a pretty bitter situation still. Momiji 15:38, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Come to think of it, we don't even have a roleplaying section on this site. Perhaps we can make one and point people to the roleplaying server (not the Wikia site) from there? Pufferfish101 16:03, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
I went ahead and linked the LiveJournal and the actual server from the Links page for now. Pufferfish101 16:08, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
No problem, I fully understand the situation. Just yesterday we were "greeted" by the admin of the Wikia wiki, who threatened us for using tinyurl to bypass the filter on this wiki's address. We're trying to set up our own wiki, but our coder is currently MIA. Thanks a lot for linking to the LJ and the server, though. That's a help in itself, and I'll do what I can do to set up our own wiki in the meantime. Squidtentacle 17:26, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Hey, I have a proposal for you guys. We can host you alongside us, in your own subdomain (say, muck.touhou-wiki.net). That way the Mediawiki setup is already there, we just have to do the migration. What do you think about that? Momiji 18:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
If you wouldn't mind, that would be great, actually. Migration wouldn't be a big issue, as long as the pages from Wikia could be just copy-pasted over. Squidtentacle 19:34, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Please specify what you would like your subdomain to be, such as muck.touhouwiki.net, or something similar. I will also need a list of moderators so I can assign the appropriate permissions. =) Chloe 19:38, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
For the moment, the only moderators will be myself and Namazu. muck.touhouwiki.net is fine as the subdomain. Thanks again. Squidtentacle 19:54, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Just make sure they register. Just a reminder, the accounts are unified so any accounts here will work there too. If the accounts are named differently between here and there we can merge together edits from different usernames. Momiji 20:09, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Hello. Your wiki should be functional. Please note that many of your character pages utilize Wikia-specific markup, so you may need to edit them into standard MediaWiki code. I have verified that the images are properly recognized by the wiki, so it should be simply a matter of updating your pages. You may also want to consider a logo image that is closer to standard dimensions, so as to be more aesthetically appealing. Please post on my talk page for any technical issues you may experience. Chloe 03:50, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Thank you all very much! It looks great. I'll do some tweaking over the week. Squidtentacle 04:39, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Adding images

I decided to try adding some spellcard images to the Ten Desires section, but it said only Administrators and "auto-confirmed" users can upload them. Exactly what is an "auto-confirmed" user, can I become one somehow, and until then, how do I deliver an image to someone who CAN upload it? Jq1790 02:28, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

"...Autoconfirmed users, you'll reach this when your account is at least 4 days old and you have at least 10 edits." - Kiefmaster99 02:31, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. Is there a way to send an image file to someone so they can upload it for me since I can't? Jq1790 02:45, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Join the IRC channel so we can coordinate this a little easier. If you want, just post links to me and I'll upload them. Momiji 02:50, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Image

Thank you for creating my page, but could you do one more favour for me? Upload, please this file 'cause I don't have permission to do this. I want to add it to my page. --Deimos 20:34, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Ahahaha. Well a minor update is one that doesn't actually change content. Like maybe spell-fixes, link updates, etc., and won't show up in Recent Changes. Major updates are anything past those, and will be seen. Outside of that, you can just look at Special:RecentChanges to see the latest major edits. Hope that helps! Momiji 06:37, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Please refer to these discussions: [1][2]. Basically, this is the "real" wiki (nobody edits wikia anymore other than people unaware of our existence.), but we couldn't get the old wiki closed and it got hijacked. Master Bigode 14:19, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
The Shrinemaiden thread should explain the whole situation. If you need more details let me know. Momiji 20:18, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the links. :)
While I've got you ear, would you mind if I asked you the same questions I've put to the admin at the wikia wiki?
 1. Who are you? What is your name, how did you get into Touhou -- what should we know about you?
 2. How did you become administrator of this wiki?
 3. What has happened, for good or ill, since leaving wikia?
 4. What is your relationship with the wikia wiki? What compromises would you be willing to make to coexist with the wikia wiki?
 5. Is there any message you would like to give about your role in the touhou community?
Answer as much or little as you like. Hatless 06:22, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm curious about your questions. Is this something about Wikia? Momiji 19:04, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Heh... it's 'about wikia' in the sense that I discovered the whole two wikis clusterfuck a couple days ago, and immediately thought: 'This is a terrible situation! I need to find out more of how it happened, and help fix it if I can! ...if only so I can sleep at night.' (No lie: wiki-drama induced insomnia. I am a hopeless case.)
I don't have any ties to either wiki, which is why I think (hope) I can do this.
For what it's worth, the admin at wikia seems open to change: he's suggested turning his side into a 'fanon wiki', and leaving the encyclopedic part to you guys... though on the other hand he's also convinced that you guys are, universally and without exception, spammers, vandals and barbarians.
I've got absolutely no right to ask you to do anything, but if there was any good word you wanted to drop in over there, now would be an excellent time. Hatless 01:38, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
In all honesty, we had absolutely nothing to do with the spamming. While I think they were foolish in try to take over something that shouldn't have existed in the first place, I made it very clear we didn't support what was happening to them. I'm pretty sure it was only two specific people who were involved with the actual Wikia wiki spamming, but I'm not really sure who they were exactly.
If they want to turn the focus of their wiki elsewhere, they're free to do so however they please.
After crawling through threads and talk pages for the past few days, I think I'm pretty familiar with what went down. And I mean, I do agree with you so far as it goes: the other wiki only still exists because of Wikia's astonishingly venal corporate policy. In any sane world we would never have this situation.
But this is the situation we're in. My concern is how to make lemonade from these lemons, or at least a silk purse from this sow's ear. Hatless 04:54, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
I'd be more than thrilled if they brought their work over here.

I figured that this should be documented somewhere (I'm thinking Policies) to cause less confusion if new users find themselves unable to do certain things. - Kiefmaster99 00:45, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

User accounts can only create and move pages if they're autoconfirmed. Accounts get autoconfirmed after 1 day of existence plus 1 edit. Momiji 03:04, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. - Kiefmaster99 17:14, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
I'll probably write up a little article detailing the various account levels and requirements, since I have a few other things I need to detail. That should clarify things better. Momiji 20:01, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Moving images

Please remember, when you rename files, the links to them in other language wiki articles become broken too. --Coyc 22:59, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Gah! I forgot about that, sorry. Momiji 23:16, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Bits and bobs on the main page

Hi ^,^ I just like to ask if you can change "Tasogare Frontier" to "Twilight Frontier" on the main page along with adding to "Windows" and "PC-98". It's not a big deal is it as I put the same request on the main pages talk page, but nobody responded. Thanks :) --Tony64 18:30, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Touhou Wiki as a NIWA affilate?

I was browsing NIWA today and noticed that they have some Non-Nintendo affilates. Maybe this wiki could be one of them? I think it qualifies.(P.S. This is off topic, but I know that there are some more articles that the wiki still needs to move. I used to be on the Wikia wiki, and I added my fanmade there).

Other than the Strategy Wiki, which covers a range of games, all other ones are in some part tied to Nintendo (incl. having a game released for one of their consoles). I don't see how Touhou would fit. - Kiefmaster99 17:14, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
"Released for one of their consoles" -- What about this? Touhou DS --Tsukihime 17:25, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
They do allow exceptions to the rule, see here. Momiji 17:49, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
I said that there were some non-Nintendo affilates...I saw 4 affilates that aren't related to nintendo at all. Check the website and look at the Affilates section.Kiwinyan 00:28, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Kiwinyan
I emailed them. Thanks. ^.^ Momiji 05:28, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I missed the non-Nintendo affiliates list. - Kiefmaster99 17:11, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

I most certainly did. And please sign your comments properly. Momiji 20:50, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I fixed my comments. Thanks for reminding me, Momiji. By the way, you accidently posted something twice. P.S. I deleted my edit 2 thingy. Now, I just have to wait.Touhou Wiki is going to get a LOT more articles and members!Kiwinyan 00:28, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Kiwinyan
