Hi, welcome to Touhou Wiki! Thanks for your edit to the Scarlet Weather Rhapsody: Reimu's Scenario page.

Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything! -- Trilkk (Talk) 2009-04-08T01:56:40

The "Prewiev" button is your friend, use it. Few things annoy wiki folks more than a million edits from the same account all showing that siad person didn't bother to check if it was properly formatted the first time.--Umhyuk 03:46, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

I am a perfectionist, but I will try my best to use the preview button as much as possible and the "save page" button as sparingly as can be done. TheTrueBlue 03:50, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Uploaded images

I don't suppose that you won't mind using those images you're uploading here, here, and here, would you? jpp8 05:33, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey can align the pictures in the Keystone? One is overlapping. -Dandan550 01:11, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
THIS

BTW, mind telling me where you picked this up? Also, do you know if there are other wikis like the Tenshi one for the rest of the cast? jpp8 02:35, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

That pic was a character graphic that I ripped from SWR using tools I found while browsing the SWR wiki. The tools, especially brightmoon.exe allow any graphic, sound, or any files to be decoded from the standard data sets in SWR. As for the Tenshi wiki, I only stumbled upon it while looking for material for the Sword of Hisou page, I'm sure others like it exist, but I haven't bothered to look for them yet. I imagine though, that simply searching for their Japanese name with the word "wiki" on google jp will bring up the results sought. TheTrueBlue 15:43, September 11, 2009 (UTC)
Here is the link to the SWR blog with the tools and how to use them: http://www.pireze.org/blog/?p=2666 TheTrueBlue 15:45, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

Rules?

What are the rules you talk about here? Dodoecchi 10:41, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Yoyo/1736/t-081-2.html the official Team Shanghai Alice fan community memo reads: number 7 テキストに付いて、エンディングに関わる物を転載する事は禁止します, that no information from any of the Touhou games' endings is to be posted or made available anywhere except in the games themselves. This is a rule that the entire Touhou Community follows as a personal request of the creator Zun. TheTrueBlue 11:07, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Well.... endings can be found here (??)
Even some Japaneses don't care about it. They just want to share the spoilers... -Dandan550 10:57, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
I don't care who doesn't care, if I have any say in it I will preserve what ZUN, the artist, wants for his works insofar as I can legitimately do so on this wiki. Additionally, you should acknowledge your mistake and thank the vigilant editors who corrected your impulsive edits to the UFO character articles. And also I had felt a little sorry for the abuse you'd been handed with regards to your edits being trash on your talk page by other editors, but I'll be frank. Your English as revealed in your "edits" is less than pre-school level. Learn English, then try again. Actually please don't, thanks. That is all. TheTrueBlue 11:10, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

Kotiya

Regarding this edit:

Are you aware that "Kotiya" is how it's spelled in the games? I'm just surprised that you're not supporting the official spellings, given that on Talk:Scarlet Weather Rhapsody: Music, you said "if the artist wants the English name of his song to be what it is, then that's what it will be". What makes song names and character names different in this regard?

(Also, if you reply, then please do so here, not on my talk page. Spreading a dialogue betwene multiple pages makes it hard to follow.) --TheSinnerChrono 05:19, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

So the English letters "Kotiya" written by Zun are in the games themselves? Or do the English letters "Kotiya" appear in any official writings by Zun? If so then this of course supersedes anything else applicable. If this is the case, please provide a source so I can change my own editing accordingly.
And I've been thinking that perhaps romanizations of character names should move from the more biased: "alternate" spellings to actually naming out and linking to wikipedia articles on the different romanization systems used, hepburn, etc. for each romanization specificed within character pages, and that the template should be adjusted if possible to reflect this. In any case, I'd be very interested to know, thanks for bringing this up. TheTrueBlue 05:35, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
The "alternate spellings" are usually ones used in other official works, so they're not biased; ZUN has used both "Minamitu" (TH12 game) and "Minamitsu" (TH12 chara.txt), for example. There are only a few cases, like "Mizuhasi", that (to my knowledge) were never used in an official work.
I've been making a list of which spellings have been used in which works. I should be done with the Windows games in a day or two, and at that point, I'll upload it to the wiki. You might find it to be of interest.
And I don't know if I need to say this or not, but please discuss spelling changes here (or another suitable place) before going around changing stuff. I'd prefer the official spellings, too, but I don't want a bunch of edit-warring. --TheSinnerChrono 06:03, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't aware that there were any outstanding objections to Hepburnization of romanizations here on Touhou Wiki, whether from other editors or contradicted by Zun's own writings. This is really the first time I've been told of such considerations. Certainly no-one would want an edit war.
Those screenshots do indeed spell out "Kotiya". Although I suspect it might be Zun's IME (possibly ATOK), it doesn't matter what the origins were. Zun had the opportunity to approve or change such romanizations and that he didn't can only mean his implicit approval of such a spelling, which has to be the standard, and others subordinated to "alternate", if even such a qualifier unfortunately persists in its usage. Hopefully a different method could be suggested and implemented.
Thank you for the providing the link to Category_talk:Characters#Standardized_Hepburn_romanization I will look over the page and try to use it when appropriate in the future.
I'll be very interested in the list you are compiling when you upload it. Perhaps such information can be used to devise a different way of indicating which romanization is which. If 4 different spellings exist, then an additional 2 or 3 lines in a character profile would not be overly cumbersome. And the internal linking could further de-orphanize certain Touhou works for which there exist articles here. お疲れ様でした。 TheTrueBlue 06:47, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
The list is up. --TheSinnerChrono 17:52, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Music

To be completely honest, I can't really admit that I'm a connoisseur of Touhou music (as evidenced by my habit to put {{Genre Needed}} on most album pages I wrote ; lack of hard drive space doesn't help either ;^^), but from what I've heard read, koutaq does mainly soft upbeat arranges. I already made a post asking for some good recs on the Touhou Imageboard's music thread so... either check it out, or I'll get back to you when I get some. jpp8 23:00, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

Music Thread #34 jpp8 19:04, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
Did a little research and found something that might interest you. jpp8 22:17, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
Tell me when you're downloading it so I can quickly delete the link jpp8 19:51, September 30, 2009 (UTC)
BTW, just in case you're curious, that 東方萃夢想 arrangement came from 東方幻想組曲. It's done by several artists with multiple styles though, so I don't think it's what you're looking for.
I was shocked when I just decided to download that album on a whim and found it on it. jpp8 02:28, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

RE: AE vs. BE

Ah, I wasn't aware that was an issue. I was just going through the pages, and that struck me as something that might be wrong. In a way, minor differences in spellings are the most troublesome things of all, because there will almost always be somebody who thinks it is wrong. Fortunately, I'm not the sort who demands to have everything my way, and I've no interest in any sort of edit war. Keeping it 'judgement' is fine with me. Rednal29 21:08, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

Game title reversions

Regarding this edit among others:

  • 222.104.193.20 put the Japanese and English components back together into a single title, which is what's official. How is "rearranging key terms" into a more correct form useless?
  • What useful information was removed? The only thing I see that was removed without replacement is the superfluous "romanized" label, and "meaning" was replaced with something more specific.

--TheSinnerChrono 08:09, November 30, 2009 (UTC)

The more "correct" form was clunkier, redundant, and unnecessary. 222 has since made some changes and the current version is good.
The "romanized" is exactly what it is, and it is not at all superfluous, same with "meaning".
"Romanized" is the exact term used to indicate a latin-alphabet rendition of Japanese characters, without which it is not at all obvious or clear to someone not familiar with Japanese where the strange looking "English words" are coming from. "Meaning" is better than "lit." because it is simpler to understand while being true. The same applies in the move away from CB codes in police districts worldwide and towards plain language instead.

TheTrueBlue 18:07, November 30, 2009 (UTC)

I agree that it was clunky to repeat the English component, but that doesn't explain why you also undid the change from "English (Japanese)" to "Japanese ~ English". You specifically criticized "rearranging key terms" in the edit that I linked to, but now that 222.* has repeated it separately from the other changes, you think that the rearrangement is good?

"日本語 (Nihongo, "Japanese language") is..."
Where else is it going to come from? Context should be sufficient to tell that what's accompanying non-English words/characters are transliterations/translations. I think it's like "Reimu is a shrine maiden (← link)"; surely some people wouldn't immediately realize what the coloration means, but should we put an explanation by every link? As long as they're not preoccupied with winning money from lawsuits, people can usually figure some stuff out on their own.

Point taken that abbreviations can be less clear than full words, although I didn't find "lit." confusing when I first encountered it. I don't have much of a preference either way; I was just trying to say that information wasn't removed by that change. (For my own writing, I generally wouldn't even use "lit." unless I wanted to emphasize the literalness.) --TheSinnerChrono 07:58, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Fangames

You're the only person I really know here, so... sorry if this is a bit of a weird question. Anyway, I finished up a fangame (Visual Novel style) recently, and I was wondering how to put it up here, assuming that doing so is appropriate in the first place. The game itself can be found at this URL: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6710

Do you have any advice? Rednal29 19:53, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
