Arrange CDs

Hello! Thank you for filling the wiki with doujin CD articles. But please adhere to well-established pattern. Use "source" and "original title" fields, and use original japanese names for the titles. Or mark your edits that they require attention so people could see that at Recent changes page and fix them. --WGH 07:21, 13 December 2010 (PST)

(Reply to User_talk:WGH#RE: Arrange CDs)
No, there isn't. Just write something in the summary :-).
Most group sites have information on source of songs. I don't know Japanese either, but can find it intuitively.
Well, to be honest, I don't see the difference, too. But there is difference! See here: wikipedia:User:Wikipeditor/CJK

On the use of {{lang|ja| tags

The {{lang|ja| tags are only meant to be wrapped around words that are rendered in Kanji or kana. Otherwise, the text will end up looking weird. Please refrain from wrapping them around words using roman letters, please. jigglyppuff8 Talk Contribs 12:07, 15 December 2010 (PST)

Would that include the ones in titles where part of it is in japanese? --Tsukihime (later)
In that case, you would only wrap it around the Japanese part. {{lang|ja|感情の摩天楼 ~}} Cosmic Mind is correct usage. {{lang|ja|感情の摩天楼 ~ Cosmic Mind}} is not. jigglyppuff8 Talk Contribs 12:23, 15 December 2010 (PST)
What about numbers (123) and symbols (,.!) ? I'm assuming if I have kanji and roman characters interleaved (のhaのhのa) I'd have to surround each instance of 'の' with the lang tags but not the 'ha'? Tsukihime (re:)
Numbers and symbols are roman characters, so those are excluded from the lang tag as well. Exceptions being the Japanese variants of those characters (? and 。).
Also, yes, you would have to surround each instance, so it would be {{lang|ja|の}}ha{{lang|ja|の}}h{{lang|ja|の}}a, but it's not like that happens very often.

Alright, I have updated my script according to your clarifications and any future articles will have the correct lang tags. I will go back and edit the articles I have created sometime. Tsukihime (re: re:)
Script? As in some sort of code that automatically makes these articles? jigglyppuff8 Talk Contribs 13:21, 15 December 2010 (PST)
Ya, since there are a number of standards that we have to follow, as well as a pretty structured template, I wrote a small page for myself that allows me to fill in a couple boxes here and there, hit a button, and then I get a finished music article ready to publish. I use vgmdb.net as my main source of information, and the format there is pretty structured as well so I can just copy paste everything, do a little manual tweaking, and have something ready in 5 mins. --Tsukihime 14:05, 15 Dec. 2010 (PST)

I've started re-editing the pages, but it seems like some spaces are typed in roman encoding while some spaces are not. Same with the ~ sybmol. This means that any editors may see '''{{lang|ja|感情の摩天楼}} {{lang|ja|~}} Cosmic Mind''' simply because my script only distinguishes them based on "is it roman or not?" and does not care whether "does that space appear between two non-roman characters or not". Doesn't affect the output and technically, the space between two non-roman chars should definitely NOT be surrounded by lang tags, so I guess this should be fine (to have a lot of lang tags everywhere). I mean strictly speaking, we probably shouldn't be enclosing any space characters, but that would be too much trouble for the average user to do it manually, but if it's automated it isn't a problem. --Tsukihime 7:10, 16 Dec 2010 (PST)

Btw, would it be preferred to have romanized names for the people (vocals, lyrics, etc.) or the kanji name? Seems like there's no defined standard here. --Tsukihime 7:18, 16 Dec 2010 (PST)
Most of the time, the names should be in Kanji. There are a couple of case by case exceptions where some arrangers such as Linjin (隣人) use their romanized name for some albums and Kanji for the others. When in doubt, check the album's website. jigglyppuff8 Talk Contribs 15:50, 16 December 2010 (PST)
I've noticed in your revisions that the titlejp field doesn't have lang tags. Same with the group field. Is there something different about these fields? Tsukihime 17:02 , 16 Dec 2010 (PST)
The coding for the MusicArticle template has it so that the titlejp field is automatically wrapped around by the lang|ja tags. jigglyppuff8 Talk Contribs 16:53, 16 December 2010 (PST)
I'm assuming that is the case for all of the other fields (besides tracklist)?--Tsukihime (RE:)
Actually, it's only titlejp. All the other fields require lang|ja if Japanese characters are present (I would have fixed the group fields that needed them in my previous edits, but it slipped my mind unfortunately). Sorry to have to force all these little nuances of a simple page onto you so quick. jigglyppuff8 Talk Contribs 18:27, 16 December 2010 (PST)
Good to know before I did some more! It takes about less than a minute to fix a page up (ie: tags and stuff) so these are just minor details for the most part. Tsukihime 18:30, 16 Dec 2010 (PST)

List by Song

Hi! I've noticed you did some bigger updates to List by Song section and I was wondering whether you're manually serching for songs. If yes then you don't have to go through all that trouble. The thing is, I recently wrote a script that automatically parses all album pages to generate List by Song pages. Turns out WGH had the same idea earlier and now we're debating what to do with all this. Once we're done though, you can expect a big update that should contain all the songs that are properly labeled so I think it would be better to just leave those pages as they are for now. Sorry for the inconvenience. BuraQ 04:50, 19 December 2010 (PST)

That's pretty cool. I've been contemplating such a thing, but never figured out how that might work. I've only been doing the ones that I've been actually looking for remixes though, and needed a list to keep track of. Is there a section where people describe what kind of projects they're doing? It'd be more useful and people can see what kind of ideas others have (as well as how they're doing it) I'd be interested in knowing how to parse *all* album pages, since that would make it really nice for updating "out of date templates" to the current one. And anything else that requires one to manually go to each album and do a little tweaking. Tsukihime 19 Dec 2010
The discussion is now here. --WGH 07:04, 19 December 2010 (PST)

PXPANDAEXOTIC_groupbanner.jpg appears to still be missing. Chloe 15:12, 26 December 2010 (PST)

I was wondering what to do with it since the name is wrong. --Tsukihime 15:47, 26 December 2010 (PST)

About your recent edits

Can I ask you why you erased all the "Return to" parts from Youkai Tan Q Roku's subordinate pages? If they're all erased then there's no way to return from the subordinate page to the previous page. Isn't that quite inconvenient? Deathsoul4 17:55, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Back button on your browser is an option. I realize that people may be bookmarking or directly hotlinking them. There are also plans to find a different way to navigate wiki pages that would be more efficient than manually linking them. --Tsukihime 23:08, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
If we can get subpages working correctly, we'll be able to create automatic backlinks, so this issue should hopefully be resolved very soon. Pufferfish101 03:41, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
